  1. When Aunt Patty made her comment about blindness, Allison and Todd exchanged “wtf looks”. Before they could pipe up, Margaret walked over with some urgent info. But yeah, they never got back to it. After the realization that they were at the wrong awards “banquet”, I just figured that Patty is a loon.
  2. I snicker a bit each time I’m reminded that the show is listed under drama, but I love it!
  3. You’re so right about those BIG WORDS. My kids could recite it by the time they were in, oh I don’t know, 2nd grade, maybe. I didn’t drill them on it, I just sang it in the style of Schoolhouse Rock around the house (with one mistake cleared).
  4. For sure. “So tell me, Ben, have you ever been in a situation where you had to use your martial arts expertise?”. “Once” will be his answer moving forward.
  5. I thought they were a great pair! They seemed to “get” one another. Also, I agree that as the episode went on, her search for ghosts, seemed to morph into a search for charm. Finally, I have a beautiful black cat, but theirs were stunning!
  6. Same here.
  7. Arlen? Arlen? Was that their son’s name? I hadn’t realized. If that had been the case, surely we would have heard about Arlen’s need, Arlen’s wants, what they could do with Arlen on the daily and what will work best for Arlen today and every day until Arlen leaves for college and thereafter.
  8. The mom really seemed to expect that she and her daughter would be alone together forever, a team.
  9. I wasn’t paying attention and thought I heard that reaction from her. I reached for the remote to replay the exchange but thought better. Just no. The sole reason that I knew Timothy Hay was because I get a few bales to put out for backyard visitors during winter months.
  10. While that isn’t where the solution lies, it would receive a different eye roll from me.
  11. I make black bean brownies from a recipe on Pinterest that are killer. When she started talking “pea cake” I was ready for it. Thanks for the link.
  12. Like me, I suppose you know the whistling sound to be heard while standing over the kitchen sink, sucking the meatlets from the neck bones…bliss.
  13. My best friend and I bought a pouch of chili-lime crickets or ghoppers at a bodega in Queens about 30 years ago. We couldn’t believe what we had been living without. We were so high. I’ve had them a few times since and they are just crunchy with whichever flavor has been added. I’d give anything, though, to relive that day in Queens.
  14. When I learned that Padma was leaving, I stared at my steering wheel for a while. Then, as many of us did, I started thinking about who might take the slot. Francis was one of three that has stuck in my head. The other two are Marcus and Gregory.
  15. And I’d love to see the inside of his closet!
  16. What are the chances that we will see food served on the backs of diners/judges hands next season? It was beautifully done last night, but I can imagine endless, absurd possibilities.
  17. Buddha does seem to have a knack for squeezing the snot out of every usable moment of allotted cooking time. He seriously gets some stuff done in the kitchen.
  18. Could have been. I was thinking Voltaggio, but Qui would fit the explanation for sure
  19. I think Ripert called it 70s plating!
  20. Yuck. I find myself wondering time and again, why they don’t prepare a tester protein. An extra Wellington would be cost and time prohibitive, but an extra piece of liver? I was thinking the same thing. I don’t recall which season Tom was talking about, but years ago he said that they sometimes have to “dumb it down”. Otherwise, they could sometimes announce the winner much earlier in the season.
  21. Wellllll, crap. While it was obvious that B would win, I just couldn’t get excited about it. His presentation does nothing for me. It just seems soulless, though technically outstanding, and apparently tasty. For some reason or another, I’ve yammered on all season to Partner South, comparing this season to those of a few other winning chefs (voltaggio, huynh, qui). They were all supremely confident, a bit aloof, and so passionate about their craft. I wanted to stuff everything they presented into my face, and fast. With Buddha, I just glance at his dish and think “oh, he did exactly what he said he’d do. Good for him”. It all seems so studious, with no fire. I don’t dislike him or find him off-putting, as some folks seem to, his food just hasn’t been of much interest to me. Now that pea cake? Count me in. Oh, and as for Padma? Whyyyyy? She was made for that spot. Happily, she knows there are other paths awaiting. I’ll surely miss her on that one.
  22. I think I’ve read all of the comments from Thursdays show, but didn’t see any of you losing your gourds over Margot Robey being accepted for Robbie. “That’s right! Margot Robey or…Robbie”. What??!!
  23. But I thought that it had to wiggle/jiggle. His did neither, but there was no mention of the fact.
  24. A lot of folks I know would say “yep, sounds about right”
  25. When he passed, I asked my speaker to play his music. I was soon looking up lyrics and crying on the sofa in the middle of the day. I knew the 3 or 4 songs of his that got airplay in their day, but dang! There were some feelings coming around that afternoon. Have any of y’all heard his song about the boat? Solid Gold. It lives in my family.
