  1. Is that higher on the loneliness scale than leaning against one's kitchen counter eating Chinese takeout straight from the carton and staring into nothingness?
  2. A friend of mine had a mother who was the airy, artistic type who couldn't be bothered to learn to cook, plus she always wandered off while things were on the stove. My friend said she didn't even know she liked food until she went to college.
  3. Basement also whined that Jaclyn dared to initiate sex and wanted it more frequently that he did. He was tired, man! If Cody and Danielle ever do get horizontal, we might see a repeat of that.
  4. I have wondered what my smear videos would be like -- people who worked for me saying I was mean and gave them unsatisfactory reviews, cable TV customer service reps narcing me out for shouting at them, my ex claiming I withheld sex when I was mad. All true! Scientology goons have picketed people at their houses and distributed flyers saying they're pedophiles and wife beaters, etc. That can't be fun to have done to you, although it isn't necessarily dangerous on the face of it.
  5. I'm enough of an ass to wish that The Mummy is a huge flop and damages Tom's career, but I'm sure it'll do well despite being bad. The bar for those kind of noisy, over the top movies is pretty low. (Which is why he does them.)
  6. I was out after 10 minutes because of it. I'm not hyped up or excited by the lights! music! crowd! spectacle! I'm annoyed.
  7. Re bras -- I'm a 44DD and actually have a couple of those expensive $125 hydraulic structures that I had fitted at a schmancy lingerie boutique with a French name and which I freely admit make me look SO MUCH better. But this is the unsupportive, baggy shit I wear 99% of the time. Because it's comfortable!
  8. Do you make your bed every day, too!? You're a better man than I am, Coffee (Gunga Din) Cup! I worked remotely the last 11 years before retirement and the only time I ever got dressed was if I had a video meeting. And then it was only from the waist up. My condolences on losing your moms, @walnutqueen and @Jaded. It sounds like you both have a lot of loving and funny memories.
  9. Luggage packing tip: only include the essentials.
  10. Preach! Also, the bar for what I consider to be BS keeps getting lower. ;) Thanks for the meatloaf tips! I'll see how it goes. Etiquette/taste question: How far away from home am I allowed to roam wearing a housecoat? State 1 (nightshirt and housecoat, no bra): Worn to take out the trash, pick up the newspaper, sweep the front lanai, drive over to the community mail station to pick up mail, walk across the street to my sister's house, etc. State 2 (nightshirt and housecoat, with bra): Typically worn when people are coming to my house, including maintenance workers, delivery people, neighborhood friends, etc. I also put on my good housecoat. Here's the sitch I'm unsure about. In State 1, I drove to an unnamed fast food restaurant to obtain a delicious breakfast McMuffin. The drive-through lane was temporarily closed and the squawk box person asked if I could come inside. Hm. Could I? Is that beyond the pale? I ended up leaving, mostly because of the bra, but hell. The 60-70s were a couple of decades of proud public bralessness. I pretty much don't give a crap what others think of me, am not the least bit image conscious, and way past whatever vanity I may have had 40 years ago. But neither am I deliberately trying to make a spectacle of myself or completely disregard societal norms for suitable clothing options.
  11. I saw Leah's ribbing of Rindah as sibling affection through sarcastic putdowns. I didn't take it seriously at all.
  12. That was awesome! The producers have a real knack for organizing and presenting information clearly and with great emotional impact. The knee high narcissist must be shitting his custom tailored pants. (Although I am sorry for whichever poor Scientology drones will be on the receiving end of Miscavige's wrath, but maybe that will encourage them to leave.) And Hurricane Leah finds time in season 2 to call out Danny Masterson and his rapey ways!
  13. I'm rewatching season 2 in preparation for 3 and am re-enjoying it a lot. The storylines are so much fun: the prison breakout, the continuing crew memory game, Nyx and her brother, the relentless Inspector Kierken, Wil Wheaton and his diabolical beard, Ryo's quest, the Android and her new chippiness. ETC! Can't wait to see what else is in store.
  14. Ha! My parents, in their wisdom, decided to alternate children with regard to their religions -- Mom's faith/Dad's faith. Pfft. We ended up atheists.
  15. Avocados are one of those foods that I like in certain states but not others -- eg., tomato soup good/tomato juice bad, raw carrots good/cooked carrots bad, guacamole super good/sliced avocado bad. I've started buying prepared guac in those vacuum sealed bags in the deli section. Schwan's delivery also has a really good fresh version. Whatever the manufacturers have done, the prepared versions don't really turn brown after you unseal them, so that might be another option for the mashed stuff. Does anyone have a good meatloaf recipe? Mine always turns out tasty enough, but tough. When I order it in a restaurant it's always much tenderer. Is it a higher ratio of breadcrumbs? I've tried making mine with and without eggs, adding extra sauce to the mix, adding shredded zucchini, etc. Or maybe I'm just overbaking it, but the thought of undercooked meatloaf is yug. Re lawn maintenance, I live in a retirement community where the houses are fairly close together and everybody hires it out. I get hit with the noise from those commercial mowers and leaf blowers five danged days a week, from neighbors to the left, right, two in the back, and my own. What are the odds that they all come on different days!? Yeesh. At least it's quick as they zip in, run over and break the sprinkler heads, and do nominal edging.
  16. Wow! The Chicago Tribune article said filming was done during one night in July of 2015. So basically everything is ancient history now and the ending blurbs are meaningless.
  17. It makes me wonder what Ashley's brother in law thinks about all the togetherness. I would not be happy if my spouse was super close with his family, called and texted them throughout the day, wanted to live down the hall and eat there several nights a week, encouraged them to treat our home as theirs, etc.
  18. Preach! but I doubt it. I mean ... we all knew Sidney wasn't going to move to damned London with damned Amanda, so I kind of resent wasting time on that storyline. I'm sure she'll stay in town so Sidney can awkwardly run into her on a regular basis and painfully suppress his feelings. It'll be season one all over again! Poor Leonard swallowed his hurt in order to be a friend and wish Sidney the best in his move, but in the end he couldn't hold it together. Despite my sighs for Sidney's prettiness, I love Leonard more. Is Sylvia going to leave the vicarage now that she's married? No reason she can't work regular daytime hours, but I'd miss her being there to slam down dinner plates and nag the boys around the clock. I remain worried about this danged parish. Only about 15 in the entire congregation -- how can that support a full time priest and curate? Regarding the very meager "crime/mystery" part of the episode -- what the hell, again? The missing boy's parents supposedly didn't care quite enough, so the teacher kidnapped not both, but only one. Sure, that makes sense.
  19. Me, too! I once had a large vegetable garden and the difference in taste between fresh-picked corn vs store bought was the biggest revelation to me. That and beets. I think it's something about the natural sugar content decreasing as soon as they're picked.
  20. I don't know who to blame more in the Marcy/Marc interaction. Marcy was so judgmental and quick to take offense, plus putting him down for his age, number of kids and past marriages. If that's her typical pattern, I'm not surprised nobody's ever said they loved her. She looked fifty-ish to me and yeah, way over tanned. I had to mute the sound and get by with closed captions because of Ana's screechy voice. I agree about Johnny being weird about his job. I searched my soul and couldn't find any preconceptions about disreputable real estate agents. Jeez. It's not like he said he was a member of Congress. Oh, Ben. You don't go blabbing to a date that you've never kissed anyone! (It didn't bother me when Chantel did it because it was her choice rather than being imposed on her by others. Plus she and Eddie were adorable.) Why does Drew's narration always say that "Everyone in the First Dates restaurant is single and on a real blind date."? How could that even be true? ... Gah okay, I looked it up. All the dates were actually filmed on one night. I guess I need to start checking the other tables to spot past daters.
  21. I'm so tempted! Cherry is my favorite fruit dessert filling, but the suggested options for chocolate, caramel, pecans, etc. sound even better. This does not, however, align with my weight loss plans. ;)
  22. I'm still sweet on Martin, so yeah. Scenes of him sprawled out blocking the front door are enough for me. But it does seem like he's the star and main protagonist, which makes Nan's life the incidental B plot. So far, I don't care about her struggles and that makes the show feel weirdly off kilter. Am I supposed to be drawing parallels each episode between Martin's life lessons and Nan's? If so, I can't be bothered.
  23. From the recap: "Basically, everyone involved is really classy, ok?" Oh, Fleiss. Thanks for the snort-laugh!
  24. There are so many passing negative references and jokes about Scientology in pop culture these days, but this one made me chuckle. It's an upcoming Netflix series.
  25. I can't wait for the Memorial Day special, but it also makes me think maybe it was put together as a viewer sop because season two has been pushed back. The initial tease for it was "summer" but that starts in a few days. The new season is being filmed now and I'm afraid the stories can't be edited and the entire arc of the season plotted out so quickly. I'm starting to think it won't be released until the Fall, which I get, but major bummer. Hope I'm wrong.
