See, I'm once bitten, twice shy now. I got a blue french horn to the head from sticking out How I Met Your Mother through so many episodes I hated to the bitter end. Big mistake. Huge! The ending was awful and I was furious that I hung on for that.
That must be a really big horn, because part of it clipped my head as well. Of course, you do know that CBS is going to screw us again with TGW, right? I'm only hanging out in the hopes that they surprise us...and that Cary totally screws them all in the end. Bunch of disloyal, treacherous fucks that they are. And as another poster noted: Jason, you don't answer the door at the Governor's apartment wearing a Pink robe. And by the way..pay close attention to Will Patton's character... THAT'S how you make perma-smirk sexy dude. And that observation's coming from a straight guy.

Maybe at some point we'll meet Leonard's father. Maybe he will either make up for Bev's cruelty or we'll see why she hates Sheldon so much--resembling his father? perhaps? I suggest Jason Alexander, Andy Kindler, or Louis C.K. as the mysterious Dr. Hofstadter. It's clear to me that Leonard is paying for his father's sins in some way.
Louis C.K. is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure his "deadpan" style of humor would translate well to BBT. :o) Jason Alexander would kill, I could also see Andy Kindler being able to convey how beat-down the mysterious Dr. Hofstadter would probably be. Peter Boyle, G-d Bless him, would have been perfect if he were still with us. The snarky goodness would have been legendary. For some strange reason, I think Rob Reiner could work too.

I thought Diana looked GREAT in that black dress, especially with her "new season" hair. She looked far less caricature-like and more feminine, but oh boy is she still being treated badly by putting her with that neurotic, wimpy feminist writer.
Oddly enough, the mature female characters that are mostly comfortable with their age - Diana and Maggie - are arguably the hottest women on the show (although Hillary Duff has some of the best showbiz legs since Tina Turner). As others have said, it's Diana's air of desperation that make her unattractive. Conversely, Maggie's confidence and self-assuredness make the actress/character's minor flaws (I never noticed Debi Mazur's overbite or lisp until now) irrelevant.
The big issue that I'd like to see Younger delve into is how apparently comfortable Liza is living a lie. Yes, there are some signs of conflict, but as another poster said, if it came down to her boyfriend or new life that she loves so much - the boyfriend is obviously toast. To me, that's someone who is mostly comfortable living a lie.

I pretty much feel the same way you do P3pp3rb1rd. Except at this stage, the writers show enough occasional flashes of brilliance to keep me coming back for more. This was one of the more mediocre episodes of the recent past. I agree that most of the actors seemed to be making the most of a lame script.
(*The whole cast was on a talk show together recently, but the Penny actress tried to steal the spotlight and keep it on herself. She slurred her words and fidgeted a lot.)
Slurring her words, huh? Just a feeling, with nothing to substantiate it, but methinks both Kaley and Penny love partaking of the grape whenever they can, lol.
Something else that took me out of this episode is the noticeable, natural aging of some of the characters. I watch Sara Gilbert's talk show; she looks pretty much the same to me, not everyone, showbiz or not, ages well. I myself started greying around age 35, family trait.
If nothing else, this episode for me totally debunked the "Penny is the hottest girl alive" trope. The dress did absolutely nothing for her, between the boob job that now have her breasts headed in different directions and the bow legs (not saying this to be mean or anything, most of us have flaws), a lot of guys would take Bernadette over Penny any day. The actress is cute, but the constant building her up to be a beauty Queen has always bugged.

I'm not sure it's such an unusual name, at least anymore (it seems to me there have been quite a few Siobhans in popular and not-so-popular tv shows and movies in recent years), but that it doesn't sound the way it is spelled, at least to a native English speaker.
Guess we don't have a lot of folks here familiar with Chris Claremont's work on X-Men. After 15 years of his run, Gaelic damn near became a second language for me.
I also liked the Professor. Kindly, gentleman scholar. Loved the off-handed "I never learned how to fly on this world." Think we'll be seeing him again soon.

A kind of "meh" episode for me. Interestingly, Kara's behavior of late is kind of validating Lord's position, at least partly. In her interactions with Jimmy, Winn and others we seen that she's incredibly immature for someone wielding so much power. And of late, she seems to have developed a real temper that we rarely see in Kal-El. Fortunately, at least in this Universe, it doesn't take much to bring her down...shine a Red Sun flashlight at her, slap on a pair of Kryptonite handcuffs and its pretty much end-game. Both Kara and Super Girl need some real mentoring that neither is getting at this point. On another note, the fight scenes are now beyond tedious. I get that Melissa is petite and all, but come on SG can bench press a tank - is the Martial Arts stuff really necessary? Know I'm kind of nit-picking here, but it really takes me out of the action scenes.

For an earlier version: Check out Christopher Reeve (R.I.P), in the original Superman Movie, for much of the same. Especially the scene in Lois Lane's apt. when he briefly thinks about telling her his secret.
Right on! Christopher Reeve will always be the definitive Superman for a lot of us. Sad that he and good buddy Robin Williams are both gone now. The really great ones seem to be dropping like flies lately. :o(
Melissa seems to be putting her own personal stamp on SG much as Reeve did with Kal-El. Pretty cool, all things considered.

Seriously. Supergirl is riding pretty entirely on the charm of Melissa Benoist, who is giving just a terrific performance, and to a lesser extent Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, and the chemistry these actors have. But the writing is often just so amateurish.
Co-sign. Melissa is clearly the break-out star here, and its been fun watching her flourish. Just the little nuances she brings to the role, as others have pointed out. Notice her walk as Kara Danvers, halting, poor body language. As Supergirl she has a brisk, powerful stride. I'd like to think these are little things that the actress has brought to the role. Also, much as I love the Martian Manhunter, they can throttle back a bit now unless he's got a definitive victory over an opponent somewhere in the cards.

One of the things I used to love about this show was the guest stars. They used to nail it everytime. Even small parts like police, nurses, co-workers, were written so well and played perfectly. That's why I tuned in tonight. Such a disappointment. Meemaw was a letdown. Everyone in this show now just seems to be going through the paces and in it for the money. No investment on their part. So sad.
In an odd twist, the comments on this board are more entertaining than the episode itself. Brilliant casting ideas about Meemaw. Polly Holliday could have killed, Dolly Parton, Doris Roberts, maybe even Rosanne. The late Rue McClanahan would have been a slam-dunk. Might have been interesting to see what Celia Weston could have done with the role. I also think Shirley Knight (As Good as It Gets) could have nailed the part too. There were so many better choices out there...
Anyways, ITA, the casting on this show used to be so great, now its hit-or miss. Seems like the best new characters, like to one played by Michael Rappaport, or Yvette the Vet, are one-shot and we never see them again. That being said, I do like Claire. Seems like the producers are reading the boards or have themselves decided that the Emily character just isn't working out. We may see more chem tests with Raj and different actresses down the road.
I'm surprised they didn't cast Georgia Engel as Bernadette's mom. Just seems like such a logical choice.
Also hard to believe the guys know about the Shamy sex. I would think they'd be giving Shelly some pretty intense on-screen razzing about it.

Please please let them renew this show, I feel like they finally got an idea of what to do with the live aspect and the chemistry was really on tonight.
I'm wondering if NBC has stumbled on to a new sitcom format and doesn't even realize it. I for one, just tune in to see how much fun the actors are having. Half the time, I can't even tell if there's real story line lurking in the hi-jinks. But it might be that in the hands of more experienced actors - I'm thinking casts like Frasier or HIMYM here - we might have a whole new genre of "improv sitcom," just throw a general story line out there and let the actors take it where ever it goes. In the right hands that could be really, really cool.

Why is everybody around here so hard on Winn? Honestly I feel for the guy.
I know. For anyone who's ever been "friend-zoned" by someone they really care about, it's surely not a happy thing. Given his pre-existing issues, I'd say he's handling it fairly well, all things considered. And keep in mind, these are twenty-somethings we're talking about here. I too hope TPTB don't use this as a rationale for Winn going villainous.

This season..... oh boy. The Josh mess is so convoluted it makes me too incoherent to comment on. There's no organic conflict.. I don't know what's going on anymore.
Josh says he has to live an "honest life" but then deliberately hides what Debi Mazar is doing with the apartment from Liza? Barf me a river. He's so immature this season out of nowhere.I didn't find Josh particularly interesting in Season One, and he's not getting any better here. Re: Charles, Liza and the "Big Lie," as this show goes on, Darren Starr will have an interesting problem on his hands. To me, Liza looks more like a 40-year old than she did last season. As another poster said, there's something about her presence and body language, nothing about the character says "26." And despite Sutton Foster's incredible genes and smoking hot body, I'm not sure how long the show can work this angle, suspension of disbelief aside. Maybe that why Liza is feeling more and more compelled to tell Kelsey the truth?

Hmm. I saw White Martian-Green Martian more as an allegory on America's racial history. But that might have been even more heavy-handed. Much as I love Kara/SG/Melissa, I'm all about the MM these days, and very happy David Harewood had a chance to shine. Much as I liked Phil Morris's take on the MM in Smallville, not sure he could have delivered the same emotional performance DH did. All-in-all, a powerful episode. This show, despite its freshman lapses, keeps getting better and better.
Edited to Add: Forgot about the holocaust images as other posters have pointed out. But the White-Green Martian thing hit me viscerally. And as a person of color, I'm aware that there were/are some factions out there wishing the same outcome for us melanin-rich folks. Sorry to get so political here.

Two consecutive posts featuring the word "awful." Seems like this season's GW has incredible consensus-building powers. Did anyone else notice how makeup and wardrobe made Grace look like a "mini-Alicia" in their final scene? I hadn't seen any familial resemblance between the two previously.

I was expecting Lucca and Rowby's fling to be exposed in court, something along the lines of "as an example of how I can quickly write songs, here's one I put together last night after Ms. Quinn and I got it on"
Think it kinda was exposed. Tongue kissing your defense counsel in open court is a dead give away. And Alicia's so out-of-it she didn't even address it with Lucca. Does she want her firm known as two chicks who make out in public with their clients? Yeesh.
On other fronts, I love Marissa, but she seems to be a bit over-sexed for her age. Daddy's nightmare. Eli continues to be sad, sad, sad.
Only ten posts on this episode so far. Folks must really be done with this show.

After a fairly strong campaign last year and a strong start to this season, the show is starting to fade again. A big Red Flag is that its now starting to repeat itself. We saw the girls discussing comic books with the famous "Red Hulk/Thor's Hammer" episode.
Totally agree about Emily; she adds nothing to the group dynamic and actually seems to drag Raj down a bit, making him less likable. I'd really like to hear why Lorre went with this character, as opposed to Yvette the Vet who had so much more personality and almost instant chemistry with Raj.
I feel like BBT is going down the same rabbit hole as How I Met Your Mother, it's going to get increasingly mediocre (and sometimes downright awful) as it limps towards the tenth (and hopefully final) season. An interesting parallel because when both shows were on their game, they stand up to some of the best sitcoms in history.
Re: Amy and Skype, I just assumed Mayim's availability was limited because the last two episodes were filmed around the same time as the cute Christmas movie she did for Lifetime last year.

I do think Eli is a lonely person and misses his strange friendship with Alicia, but she's awful.
I'm reminded of Will's admonishment to Alicia when she left his firm: "you're awful and you don't even know it." Pretty much sums it up.

That said, I do think the creators should have cat back on board team super girl for the finale. The problem for me with Cat buying the Marian Manhunter twin is that Kara and Supergirl then are twins. What is the chance of that? Also, Cat apologized too quickly. Doesn't seem like the type.
Big winner of the week: Cat Grant. She clearly revealed herself to be on team Kara/Supergirl. Seems pretty clear that the two are/were developing a mother/daughter or mentor/mentee relationship that was benefiting them both. Kara herself even seemed to imply that. There was obviously more upside to Cat knowing the truth than a downside, but Kara is probably too young to see that right now. As currently written I don't see much of a chance of Kat turning on Kara.
Best lines of the night:
Kara: "I can keep a secret."
Hank and Alex in unison: "NO YOU CAN'T."
The three are forming a close friendship based on mutual respect and admiration. Nice to see. Also cool that we're starting to see some of the same sense of humor MM displayed in Smallville and in the comics.

But it would make no sense for Kara to "deflect" the idea when she's already admitted to Cat that she is Supergirl. The far better course would be for Kara to tell her that James and Wynn also know and introduce her to the Fortress of Supergilitude that has been in existence under Cat's nose for some time now.
Kara's freak-out about Cat figuring out her secret makes absolutely no sense to me. First of all, Superman keeps his identity secret to protect the ones he loves. Clark, as part of cannon, went out of his way to keep Lois, et. al, safe. By comparison, a legion of people know Kara's secret ID and are willingly immersed in her adventures. Also, as other posters have pointed out, Cat has been her biggest supporter, now feels indebted to her, and clearly represents no threat. Plus, Kara sucks at keeping her identity secret, making jokes to random Baristas about being an alien. Until another poster pointed it out, I didn't even notice she wears the same earrings in both identities. Maybe she should just drop the secret identity trope and go the Fantastic Four route, let everyone know who you are. At the rate she's going, that's probably going to happen anyway. I'm going to have a hard time sticking with this show if they pull some tired ruse like a mind-wipe or double to fool Cat. Be bold Berlanti. You opened the door, now walk through it.

Glad the women carried the relationship portion and the guys didn't know. I'd hate for Howard to be sharing tips with Sheldon. (Ick!!)
Although understated, clearly one of the writers' better choices. Although it could have easily been played for laughs (and probably weakened the episode), can you imagine how unnerving the good-natured ribbing and "advice" from Howard, Raj and Leonard would have been to Sheldon? Penny and Bernadette clearly realized this, and probably made a very deliberate decision not to tell the other guys. Nice, thoughtful touch of friendship there.

Sheldon clearly knew what he was doing, judging by Amy's blissed out look.
Like Leonard, he probably spent some time googling technique. The writers seem to consistently bring their "A" game when it comes to the Shamy. Who would have thought that a Chuck Lorre show could handle this topic with such sensitivity and tact, while maintaining a high level of comedy?

It has never been established (on the show anyway) that she can travel at the speed of light.
I'm all for suspension of disbelief, but its hard to imagine this iteration of SG - who burns her powers out defeating the likes of Red Tornado - can travel at the speed of light. I stopped reading the Superman line a few years ago, so I'm new to the whole "48-hours recharge" thing. It's plausible; at the end of the day Kara and Kal are sentient solar batteries. But it seems to me only a mega display of powers (like using heat vision to near super-nova levels) should lead to that outcome. The 10-year old in me thinks Martian Manhunter (with all his many powers) would kick SG and SM butt all day long.

I think both male characters have serious issues. Winn is a Nice Guy, which needs to be fixed. James exists only to be hot and mansplain Kara's powers to her because he's besties with Superman. Somehow that makes him more of an authority on her powers than Kara herself. Hopefully they'll figure out how to use these characters before the first season is finished. The show has a lot of potential, but needs to be retooled a bit.
I co-sign on almost everything in this post. Both male leads could disappear tomorrow and it would only increase my enjoyment of this show. One thing I'd love to see disappear both in pop culture and in real life is the "nice guy" trope. Always cringe when I read or hear it. Kinda makes us guys who sincerely try to be decent human beings (maybe with some issues) feel...I don't know...disingenuous somehow. Only the J'onn J'onzz revelation kept this from being a totally "meh" episode for me. Can't wait until circumstances force MM to reveal himself to Kara, as we all know they will.
