  1. This Forum for AMLT is far more interesting and entertaining than the actual show, thanks to you guys. 🙂

Every episode I find myself wondering, "when the hell does Gary work?" We've seen him at work once or twice so we know he has a job (isn't he an actuary for an insurance company or something like that?

When is the last time we've seen Gary actually at work? Maybe the middle of last season? Incredible. Katherine, Rome, and Regina appear to be the only characters with a somewhat realistic work/home balance. In fact, we see Regina more at work than anywhere else.

but what I don't get is, why did Katherine and Eddie have closet sex at the open house across the street, but when they got home later that evening, they went to separate rooms?

Yeah that was weird, wasn't it? and does Theo know his parents are sleeping in separate rooms? I do kind of see the point with Katherine, though, as she may still need some space between her and Eddie.

The fake house hunting thing was so pointless.  I understand Katherine and Eddie wanting to have some fun, but the problem with escapism is that you have to go back to reality.  Some goofy made up story and a quickie isn't going to undo Eddie's infidelity.  That cheesy "family photo" probably didn't help.

Moving to Austin isn't a bad idea, or an unreasonable request at all.   If Katherine is willing to work on their marriage, then it shouldn't be an issue for them to move and start fresh.  But she also realizes that Eddie won't move and risk being further away from Charlie.  Katherine just doesn't win here.

Although I posted weeks ago that Eddie and Katherine really need a fresh start, it can never happen within the show's context. The escapism was a nice little distraction, but hours later they have to pose for a photo with Eddie's former mistress and his out-of-wedlock daughter. It's nice to dream, but reality hits hard. I can dream about being married to Salma Hayek, but when I wake up...sadly, I'm not. Nor am I her Billionaire Husband, lol.

I can't care about Maggie. Her brother has been gone for years, and while I'm sure you never really get over these kinds of losses, she's acting like it JUST happened. And the way she just thrusts herself and her dramas into everyone's lives..

Maggie is threatening to surpass Delilah as this show's must un-likeable character.  She's Immature, whiny, and runs away from problems at the drop of a hat. Hey, you're beating Cancer! Get tougher. Maggie's quickly getting to the point where it's hard to find a single redeeming thing about her. She and Gary together is like Toxic Sludge in a Quicksand Bog.

First of all, I'm really sorry to hear about your history, Shape, but do you really think Bob is a "Prince Charming"?  I find that interesting because I don't see him that way.  I've only just started to see him as perhaps a slightly more interesting, nicer, less pathetic heavy guy than I did in the first couple of episodes.  Now I do get it that the show might be trying to portray him as some kind of prize package for Abishola, but I've already posted on how I don't like that so much.

I think Billy Gardell basically plays the same "husky nice guy" in every show, lol. But what I don't understand is how Abishola could be considered such as prize either, other than the fact that Bob's obviously very lonely. She doesn't radiate any kind of warmth or pleasantness. I fall into Bob's demographic, and Abby does nothing for me. I'm into funny, quirky, friendly, interesting women. The "ah, I'll tolerate you" vibe from Abishola kind of bugs, even though she's softening to him.

I used to tell my nieces, you know you're getting older when a guy can look like Brad Pitt but if he is bad to waitresses and children and small dogs he becomes ugly, but a guy who is kind and thoughtful and responsible can look like Clint Howard and be considered attractive.

Amen Sister. Wish there were more women out there like you. 🙂

I liked Regina but now they are making her the broken black woman who for some reason doesn't want children so we must fix her. Let's dig up past bad experiences and abuse, emotional issues and when fixed in one or two shows, she will change.  Maybe it wont be this way but I feel it. I've known women who just didn't want children or later adopted older children and they were fine, they exist everywhere but TV.

Yeah it kinda bugs that they take the most functional character on this show and breaks her   in ways that don't totally make sense. As far as her eatery is concerned, some of Gina's questionable decisions, I believe, are due to her constantly having to pull the weight for an absentee partner.

In other news, Delilah and Gary were tolerable for the first time in ages. Loved that he finally stepped up and publicly made Katherine feel welcome. Time will tell if Delilah will pull her weight in the business. Also, on a shall note, I wish someone would do something about D's hair. Always looks like a messy bird''s nest, lol.

It's not working.  That's baby bump is showing even in scrubs and you can see the pregnancy weight gain in her face.

It took me a while, but I believe I found a screen cap of Nina when she was berating Valentin at the church...

Oh that's SO funny. Now all I can think of is Nina growling "you have brought dishonor upon my hoooouse..."

In other (shallow news), Nina and Valentin made the least attractive wedding couple I have ever seen. Only on this soap could they be romantic leads. Frisco and Felicia they ain't.

I like that this show is bringing up issues like prejudices that I wasn't aware of before, like between Africans and African Americans.

Speaking as an ADOS, the bias exists between many immigrants of color (such as those from the Caribbean) towards us. The general (usually incorrect) impression they have is that we ADOS often fail to take advantage of all the opportunities available here in America, making us, ah, less than admirable. Sad, but true. I've heard it myself many times.

Didn't Brainiac last season say he couldn't help her or change (his) history?

He's honoring that by not telling Nia about what her future holds (specifically) or that one of her descendants (Dream Girl) will be one of the Legion of Super Hero's founding members.

Well, if they're not going to give James a storyline, Mehcad should walk.

Totally agree. Five years now, and we're back to freaking Guardian?  A concept that never worked in the first place. He needs a regular role on one of the Big Three networks.

On the shallow side, Melissa and Candice Patton can give seminars on rocking a dress in the Beeboverse.  Just Melissa in that pink dress, dayum.

Shallow follow-up: Melissa is a true heart commander. Unique combination of adorable and super-hot sexy. She really was rocking that pink dress without really trying.

Disappointed that they're making Lena evil just for the sake of having another season-long "big bad" arc.  It's not like Lena hasn't kept secrets from Kara too.

Kinda meh on the pants thing, but it looks better than the cheerleader outfit.

So Lena's fake speech about no more secrets while hiding that she has super powers.

Anybody know what Lena's powers are besides super strength.

    What are Jimmy Olsen's powers?

What was that mechanical lens thing that shoots the beam that Brainy/Nia (can't remember which one) was using?

This could be wrong, but I don't think Lena has powers anymore. Didn't all of that end with her experiments last season?

The device that Nia uses was created by Brainy. It channels her "dream power" into some kind of concussive force blast. The concentric circle effect kind of reminds me of Havok in the old X-Men comics, only not as cool.

Oh? I thought she was just doing, like, nude cosplay and stuff like that, I thought the turn to actual sex was a new thing. If not, then yeah, that's super weird that it became a story just now.

Seems like she's been "easing" into the work, no pun intended.  According to the inter webs, she's been posting topless and semi-nude pics online since about 2014. And there's been hardcore stuff online featuring her for at least 2 years now.  I think the recent articles are just meant to drive publicity for her new movie.

I don't get why Bob hearts Abishola so much when she's rude and nasty towards him. This is actually a little sad to see an aging, over weight desperate man so lonely that he would subject himself to such rude behavior in hopes of ending work being his whole life and has no circle outside his family.

I "liked" this post primarily because Bob represents a certain demographic in our society that probably flies under the radar. This show is getting off to a relatively slow start for a Lorre production, but I'm going to stick around to see if it finds its legs.

I heart Billy Gardell, from what I read he's a really sweet, decent guy IRL. Remember him getting an unexpected standing ovation from the audience on the View a few years back. He's got John Candy-potential, IMO, and I'd like to see him get a big screen opportunity.

I was really hoping this could turn into a pseudo thirtysomething.  But nope.

Speaking of old shows, anyone else remember the ABC drama Brothers and Sisters? That was my jam back in the day. A gifted, A-list cast (Sally Field, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Matthew Rhys among others) and very plausible, entertaining story lines. It was too good to last, though, and barely got 100 episodes.

Yeah, the nerve of her to call at the busiest time for such a lame question.  Uh, Delilah, you can just use google to find the song.  Just type in the phrase you do know and it will come up with it for you.  I am old and have done this a lot.

Sorry, but there is absolutely no evidence that Delilah can use Google without help. 🐵

Honestly, I hope Gary gets head lice. Or scabbies. Or fleas. Anything just to get him to chill the fuck out and act like a normal person every once in a while.

I know that Katherine is now going to be expected to be part of the friend group, which is so beyond unbelievable.

The healthiest thing would be for her to cultivate her own circle of new friends. With everything else Katherine is dealing with, even infrequent exposure to that crew should be enough to push her over the edge.

  14. Since this show finished fairly strong in the final two or so episodes of last season (and I really want to like it) I came back for Season 2. But another couple of episodes like this and I'm out.

As another poster noted, when a show-runner or head writer becomes such a focal point of conversation (unless it's someone iconic like Dick Wolf) there's a real problem going on. The Good Place is one of my favorite shows ever and it takes me three minutes to remember Show-runner Mike Schur's name. Probably the way it should be.

There's just so much talent on this show - it could be light years better than it is. Grace Park is killing it - her face betrays the toll this situation is taking on her. Btw, when Katherine asked Eddie "what did she have?" (regarding the gender of Delilah's baby) did anyone else initially think she meant "what does Delilah have that I don't?"

In other news, either separately or together Maggie and Gary are one of the most annoying television couples ever.

I know Gary is supposed to be the funny one, but I find myself laughing far more at Rome's lines.  His delivery is perfect--far less gimmicky than Gary's.  In fact, I find Gary more likable when he's not being snarky.

Gary tries too hard to be the "edgy, madcap guy." It kinda bugs. Rome's humor is more organic and gives you real insight into how he views the world. Gary would be a much more likeable character, IMO, if he just dialed it back a few notches.

So many people tell him that this show helps them with their depression, etc.  I am at a loss to see how. Truly.  The writing is not really there nor does it go into much detail to be of real help.

Actually I get that one.  I'm not big on Freud, but old Sigmund was absolutely right when he said "depression is anger turned inward." Every time Maggie or Gary go off on a rant against someone that's offended them, there's always going to be a segment of the audience that relates and cheers.

They are billed as an adventure couple and every single adventure is a snooze fest.

Where have you gone Luke and Laura? Or Frisco and Felicia? or Robert and Anna?  True action-adventure couples. Sad thing is, a few of them are still on the show, back-burnered and sacrificed at the altar of JaSam.

There was one more thing that bugged me about this episode. I didn't like when Abishola asked about the other kid's grades in the principal's office. That was really immaterial to the whole discussion.

Actually it was very material to the whole conversation.  As with many immigrants, Abishola's family is all about reaping the benefits of living in America. Right or wrong, she wants her son to become a Doctor and academic performance is key to that. She sized the other boy up based on his mother and wanted to convey the sentiment "oh that no-class idiot isn't going to hold my son back." Maybe Abishola could have handled it more skillfully, but I endorse her stance. For what it's worth, the Principal came off really badly here, especially if both students weren't suspended.

I have no idea how this show thinks publishing works, or why Kelsey is apparently so amazing that they cant possibly exist without her. She has good instincts, and is an actual Millennial, but, as was pointed out in the episode, she has very little experience actually running a company, and when she did get the opportunity, she made a big gaffe, and had to step down.

In real life, these combined companies would have no authors or investors and stockholders would be running for the hills. Also, staff would spend more time sending out resumes than actually working.  The companies' senior management (outside of Diana for the most part) have a lot of personal/professional baggage that the whole world knows about; they'd almost certainly be considered laughable toxicity in the real publishing industry, even Diana for choosing to stay there. 😞

Well, that happens when a show is extended beyond its shelf-life. You get an unrealistic friendship-not-friendship dynamic that is exhausting for everybody. I'm getting HIMYM vibes here - and they are not good.

Yep, I pretty much said the same thing weeks ago. Only because this is a Darren Starr show has TV Land suspended their "five-years-and-done" edict for original programming. And sadly, Younger's creative crew doesn't have the chops to carry off the two additional years.

Ugh, Kelsey. You messed up. You aren't publisher. Life has consequences. Don't give Charles guff for making a decision. Try to maintain what's left of your dignity!

Kelsey has so much growing up to do. Yes, you fucked-up girl.  Own it and move on. However, she did a good job speaking at the all-girl school, so there's that.

Really they should stop two seasons ago.

If they do any of that I'll regret any second invested in this show.
