The only time I remember a marital rape story line was on The Guiding Light, in 1979.  For as often as soap operas get ridiculed, every so often they tap into a story line that gets people talking.  This was one of them.

I know you wrote this a long time ago, but the seminal British drama the Forsyte Saga has marital rape as a major plot point.  It aired in the US in the early 70's and is based on a set of books by John Galsworthy written in the 1920's.  The title of the first book is  A Man of Property.

    It got the point across.

I've never watched any of the "Real Housewives" shows. What a bunch of tacky fake classless women. Gah.

But sometimes they flip tables or throw wine at each other.

I thought Aaron's garment looked a lot like what Johnny Weir was wearing doing the figure skating commentary earlier today.  Maybe he could become a housewife.

  3. OMG!  This was so edited drama.  I'm sure that the houses that they were touring were in Napa.  But they were staying in Healdsburg which is in Sonoma County.  Kendall Jackson is one of the biggest wineries in Sonoma County, Bobby and Heather were at the Murphy Goode tasting room on the square in Healdsburg, and Madrona Manor with its Michelin starred restaurant is in Sonoma County.

It's at least an hour and half drive to Napa.  The four of them probably wanted a weekend away in Healdsburg and they edited in the trip to Napa.  So the Josh-Josh drama is all faked.  That third house was incredible.

  4. So far no one but Akbar and the pink twins are getting on my nerves.  Penn took an awful fall onto pavement for an "older" guy.

Why show two episodes at once?  They may have this season filmed but it'll be a while before another season can take place.  Stretch this season out as long as possible.

HBO ran the movie about the train attack yesterday afternoon and I watched it.  So when TAR started and they were cruising through the teams, I recognized the two of them.

Holy cow, that first house was absolutely unbelievable!  Is it even possible for there to be a worse one?  That will certainly be the one to beat, in my opinion.  I can't imagine why they bought that monstosity!

There's nothing wrong with the actual house, it's how it is decorated.  Take the giant fish off the wall and replaster and it'll be a great house.  Didn't they buy it for $495K when it was listed for over a million?

The former funeral home was much uglier IMHO.

  6. You all have captured my feelings about Rayna to a T.  Don't accept someone's apology (twice!), say that all is good and you love them, and turn around and complain to someone else about it.  If it bothers you, do not accept the apology.

Did they set out to cast a crew of mutterers under their breaths and narrators?  They all do it.

God bless Wes for making coffee for 8 people when he'd never done it.

I saw another woman use the glass globe on plastic method (I think on Holiday Wars) recently.  I have read in the past that the crew and contestants are allowed to eat after the show has been wrapped.

The contestants on the Great British Bake Off have had to make them, at least twice.  They are all amateur bakers.  It's surprising that none of these professional pastry chefs had ever tried it.   It's tricky but not that hard once you know how to do it.

I was surprised at the amount of resentment and pouting from Juan and Stephanie when they were asked to sit out the one challenge.  Think of it as a compliment!  Or listen to the rationalization from the head chefs - they both pointed out that those two were the only ones who hadn't had to miss any of the challenges.

    Spoiler

    And Juan won anyway.

If there is a second season, it would be better if the contestant's talents are more even.  Either all beginners or all experts.

I am loving the Christmas sketches -- refrigerator cards and especially the "Rear Window" communications that took so many dark turns for a Christmas dinner invite.  And then became an advert for "NextDoor" -- which is where the skeevy underside of so many neighborhoods is found.

That's because the sketch was spoofing an actual commercial for NextDoor.  And in my neighborhood, it's the home of people terrified of each other.

As a former Lab owner, it was disappointing how much better the Golden Retriever was a few weeks ago.  And why get a black lab and then use brown fake paws?

I legitimately didn't realize that Brexit meant that the UK no longer uses the metric system anymore. It felt weird having it be the BRITISH guests asking to convert things into "pounds"...I mean, that's money over there!  (Or is it Euros now? I'm very confused)

Actually, for people's weight, the Brits use "stones."  1 stone = 14 pounds.  So Will lost 2.3 stone

    Loved the Hamilton rap.

I think the universe of "large" women who would wear a gray stretch jumpsuit with a quilted bomber jacket that is waist length is close to zero.

While I don't think large women need to be dressed by Omar the Tentmaker I do think the goal of clothing is to flatter the wearer in some way. Most women try on clothing and choose clothing that is flattering and a stretchy gray jumpsuit would be difficult for any woman who wasn't slender because it is so unforgiving.

But maybe that's me. 🤷🏼‍♀️It seems that the designers have succeeded in dressing the "plus size" models in flattering ways when they have emphasized their good parts and not put on a target on stuff like a large stomach.

Coral did it in this very challenge.  She had a plus size model and her look fit her like a glove.  If she hadn't used sequins, she might have won.

Some designers gravitate towards the larger models.  Bones almost always uses a plus size gal.

What happened to the male models?  This would have been a great challenge to include them.

  11. I thought they both deserved their aufs.  Zayden's was just tragic.  Maybe if the blue jacket had actually fit the model, it could have hid some of the monstrosity of the jumpsuit.   On the other hand, if Octavio had paired his giant silver coat with bike shorts and Ugg boots, it would have been kinda cool.

I will never understand the appeal of ear gauges.  I had to avoid looking at Geoffrey during his own season, don't bring him back!

  12. I finally finished this.  I had the third episode running and my daughter came in and wanted to know if we had time to do something.  Glanced at the screen - they were putting the equipment on the roof and I said, "Sure, it'll take them months to actually get up there."  She replied, "the dwarves assemble a dresser from Ikea."

The man needs an editor.  If you made a drinking game out of every time they play Get Back in Episode 3, you'd get alcohol poisoning.

  13. From Decider:

These two new episodes of The Great British Baking Show: Holidays on Netflix originally aired in 2020 in the UK. The episodes were shot, not in May as Tom Allen quips, but in August 2020. That is, they were filmed after 2020 season of The Great British Baking Show was wrapped. Noel welcomed his second child at this time and had to tuck out of the bubble to be there for his family.

Huzza for Rosie winning.  On a shallow note, I want her glasses.

I am sure many a bookmark where made for this recipe. If it really produces a decent pudding its a smart way to speed up Christmas cooking.

I looked at it and as we know, it works.  However, I doubt many people, even in England, have a candied clementine just sitting around their kitchen waiting for an emergency.  I don't know where to buy one.

Mimi saved that penis of an outfit.

As she did when Anna made a version of it in orange for an earlier challenge.

With everyone else grabbing the animal print faux fur, it was great that Chasity went straight for hot pink.

Same. I already didn't like this twist—why would you penalize someone for choosing to participate in a challenge? There's already the shot in the dark, if people want to leave their fate up to blind chance. Furthermore, making fire seems like the obvious task, but even something like have to recite all the pre-jury boots in order would have been better than a Monty Hall game.

Final thought: I bet it pained Shan not to be able to interject at Tribal Council when Ricard and Deshawn were hashing over what happened that led to her being voted out.

I may be the only person who feels this way, but I liked the Do or Die.  It let people opt out of the immunity challenge, which they could see, without penalty.  It meant that one person who did try to win immunity would face another challenge in which they could possibly gain immunity.  And Jeff described it as a pure luck game - they weren't going to build fire or use their memory, just take a chance and hope for the best.  I expected him to stroll out with a quarter.

And it was totally killing Shan to not talk at Tribal.

I mean, only 4 Black people have won out of 40 winners.

That's 10% which is close to the 12.6% of Black people in the full population of the US.  If there is no bias, that's what you would expect.
