  1. I had the same thought about why is she here?  Has she watched the show?  When said to someone, why vote out the older woman I'm no threat.  Right.  You are also pre merge when the way to stay in the game is to have your team win so you don't go to tribal.  And you aren't helping with that.  Not in physical challenges, I've seen no genius with puzzles and you don't help around camp so others can save their energy for challenges.   Boom Gone. And rightfully so.  You have to provide something to tribe premerge and to your alliance post merge.

What was said upthread about watching people is interesting because I have been thinking about Natalie and how she listens to hear who is being talked about and then runs to them and tells them - people are throwing out your name.  So I get the feeling that she has under the radar relationships going on with people.  And maybe an alliance with the wrestler/geologist.   Whether she can develop them beyond warning them and incurring some gratitude IDK.  She may be a little snakey sneaky.

  2. Noooooo not Jeremy!!!  Thats terrible, he's my favorite  on Goliath by far.  So much for Natalie being the easy boot.  And why vote off a strong male pre merge?  Something crazy must have happened.   I blame Natalie:)

  3. Is there a general all topic thread per season?  I mean this does say "PREVIEW and speculation thread"

My comment above sort of revolves around this maybe.  Generally, with or without spoilers, people are commenting on players and speculating, talking about interview tidbits freely given in the press.  In one topic area.  Whereas it just seems like a speculation thread and player threads.

  4. So Probst is in charge of everthing.

And since he thinks he some sort of Margaret Mead social anthropologist and can use Survivor to reveal deep insight to the human psyche using themes - that's what he is doing.   He has been using the term "social experiement" in interviews for years.  He loves it and thats what he things Surivivor is.

Casting, I've read several articles, one I thought came right out and said Probst is doing the casting now that Lynn is gone but I can't find it.  Other articles list a team.  But my sense is that Probst is more involved and I'm sure has the last say.

And the show is no long made for US the FANS, but for the contestants.  ???  So.......he is listening to all the previous contestants about what they think of new twists and themes and challenges?  Or is it all Probst all the time anticipating what the new contestants, that he cast, want/need in order to make his social experiments the success he craves?

I was sooo miserable last season.  Halfway through I hated it more than any other season.  I just don't know what to think.  But I think its on Probst.

  5. After just totally losing my nut over last season and it ruining the last half the show I'm working hard to not get in quite as deep this season.

Not really a speculation  post but I'm surprised by the lack of or maybe change in posting?  Seems quiet with more posting in players forums vs. the other way around.

To keep this slightly on topic I still get a little confused by the David and Goliath thing.  Both are groups of successful people but one group boot strapped themselves up and one

    came from more privilaged backgrounds?

  6. In a recent interview Probst gives Mike credit for Probst deciding at the last minute not to do Redemption Island again (forget which season).  Maybe not besties but dinner guest friends.  Mike def seems a pretty big Survivor fan.

  7. Contestants get to decide things like that?  Seems absolutely at odds with being on a reality tv show.  Oh I want to play for the million but don't put me on tv.  What?  What if they all did this?

    Doesn't ring true.

  8. I'm loving this show and thoroughly enjoying it even if I don't quite get metaphor/hallucinations etc. very well.

I love both themes; fat and......IDK I hate to use "man hating"  because it makes it sound like being angry about how women are treated by men is wrong.  And I'm just so sick of it.  A small town local I played with when young and knew my whole life just had her daughter shot down in the driveway by her boyfriend.  I worked most of my life in a very male dominated arena (military).  Bleh.

So the Jennifer thing has me filled with glee and I refuse to feel guilty about it.

I belong to a fb group called Flying Fat and the stories on there....her comment about flying really hit home.

Not sure about the hacking thing....where is that going?  I guess that's related to Jennifer?

It seemed like she was caving to the idea of the detective liking her, hope she sticks with her gut.  Although as a plot device that probably won't work as well as starting to think he might actually be interested.

Is Y supposed to represent anti depressants in general?  Diet drugs?  I'm not sure why this is such a thing and referred to as if everyone knows about it, like it is THE drug out there.

I found the series very entertaining, but also so brutal that it took some strength to watch. I was wondering about the scene with Patrick as a child at the bathroom door, refusing to do what his father said ever again. I take it that was only an imaginary resolution for grown Patrick? When his friend Johnny asked what would he say to his father, Patrick's reply was that no one should do that to anyone else. (At Bridget's party.)  So Patrick finally has the words to heal little Patrick, and feel compassion for his father. Now I want to read the books!

Thank you for posting this.  I tend to be very literal and didn't catch this.  I came here just to post that I found that scene very out of touch with reality.  That someone like Patrick's father who semed pretty steeped in cruelty don't just crumble like that when a child they have been controlling says no, you are bad.

While I don't understand how imagining that scenario would help someone, I'll take it on faith as it makes more sense than it actually happening IRL.

I did a small bit of reading about the author, his life etc.  Seems....ironic? that much of what he writes about in terms of the uselessness of the lives of people with generational wealth, their use of irony, sarcasm etc. also seems very much his life.  It doesn't seem like he has actually escaped it.  Also, I don't know whether people are exaggerating his drug habit or not but its hard to understand how anyone could take that many drugs and live.

  10. There was an interesting vibe and storyline here which was kind of enjoyable despite all the huge plot holes and inconsistencies.

Rasmusas though was beyond irritating and agree with killing him twice.  Simone wasnt much better.  So much stupidity its surprising they lasted as long as they did.

  11. I cheered when that annoying useless Rassmus got stabbed.

You really have to suspend ALL common sense.  Why all the wet dew on the ferns and trees doesnt have the virus.  Why some animals are alive and not others.  why that woman ran through the ditch with no shoes....like every minute

  12. Which could be show related, but she isn't going to say so we probably won't ever know.  I mean if she did get in trouble for leaking something and they went after her financially, banned from Survivor events, that would put you in a dark bad place for sure.

  13. When I first heard David and Goliath on the reunion show I guess for some reason I thought about background, poor background vs. rich background.  Poor background who had succeeded and rich background who had succeeded.   Which made it a social experiment (somthing I think Peacy just loves).  But now I guess its just whether you are a big shot of some kind?  I'm not sure how being a cop makes you a David?

I will say that I think many very successful top of the rung people (1) are a little sociopathic/ruthless by nature and (2) being raised by top of the rug people to be a top of the rung person is a definate advantage re confidence and ruthlessness.

Mike White didn't strike me that way though so I googled him (I really liked Enlightened) wow re his father

White is the son of Lyla Lee (née Loehr), a fund raising executive, and Reverend Dr. Mel White (James Melville White), a former speechwriter and ghostwriter for Religious Right figures such as Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson.[2] White is openly bisexual.[3] His father came out as gay in 1994.[4]

Frustrating that we never saw how Sea Bass was bring home so much seafood

  15. Well I am sad to see her go.  Applied for Survivor at least 15 times, big fan.  Hikes alone in he wilderness for days on end makes her an interesting person in my book.  She took a huge step leaving the Church, divorcing and moving to Chicago.  Seemed to think strategically.

I did read in that interview above that she said she was glad they showed her looking for HII.  I must have missed that because one of the things that bothered me was it didn't seem like she was.  I don't understand how, if she was looking that hard, she didn't find one when they make it look so easy for others.  There was one out there in play the couple of days before she was booted right?

It does bug me that she didn't try to leverage the romance between Jenna and Sea Bass.  And that Jenna and Michael just caved and voted for her.

Um, don't know what happened why the above comment was suddenly restored.

Wondering why she wasn't at the reunion?  A comment on reddit mentioned that she said something on social media about "orange is cursed forever" and theorized she might have gotten in trouble with production, but no one knew anything about why she was missing or going on.  People were wondering if that would affect her ability to come back on the show or be on other reality shows.

I follwed her on twitter under runtrimom but then somehow all of a sudden I started getting instagram posts under her new account name stephanierae (she closed out all her old accounts).

One of her recent instagram posts was paragraphs about what a dark and horrible place she has been in.  the previous post was a pic with her mom thanking her.

Anyone know what the story is?  I'm not looking for personal details, just wonder if it is show related or personal.

Also, Bradley says that Jeff Probst told him he was voted out because he was a threat. Um, I hate to tell you but Jeff says that to everyone. This kid annoys me to no end. I just watched his Day After video and he’s even annoying there. He talks about how great he & Kellyn were at puzzles and the others were just there. That said, those two really must have hoooked up fast. The day after he’s voted out he’s still talking about her. It’s odd because they hardly worked together.

They worked together a lot.  It has been mentioned by other bootees in several exit interviews.

And they are really tight, probably romantically, in aftershow real life.  So yea, probably talking about her.

I don't think it was the wrong call it doesn't look good as a leader to give up on your tribe in the very first challenge.

Because - its better to just take the loss and not get the fishing gear or whatever it was so they have nothing to survive with?

Because its better to stand and watch one of your team members totally fail?

Good for Dom I guess because Des would have made an obvious boot after a big fail like that.  Sure is like giving up on Des to just let her fail in front of everyone.

And if, taking your philosophy to its conclusion -  its bad to give up on your tribe - then yea Dom sucks because raising his hand and calling out a tribe member as making the wrong decision is "giving up" on a tribe member - making them look bad, as opposed to presenting a united front,

something you do not do if you are trying to to create strength and unity.  It was a dick move because there was no reward for it other than an advantage to him as  a way to shoot for a strong male right off the beach.  He was mad because Chris raised his hand and put himself in the leadership postion and he wanted to shoot that down.

I'm with you again. I actually thought for a pretty unathletic guy, Don was doing a great job with those rings. I never saw anything that seemed like intentional misses.

Domenick threw a bunch of the rings, it just wasn't shown.

Yes! I wasnt the biggest fan of Donathan until that scene. Now I just want to protect him and it’s hyper guys like Dom who will be the first to jump out and protect him too. I guess thats  why I loved Dom this episode; while I know he was just trying to get himself further in the game, I’m so glad that his choice got rid of someone like Bradley.

Being protective of Donathan was not why Domenick flipped on Bradley.

  19. Well Jenna has switched to Sea Bass who is friends with Chris but also a Naviti.  Donathan has switched to Domenick/Naviti.  Laurel maybe too.  That leaves...Libby and Chris?

Domenick was a dick day 1 to say Chris made the wrong call, especially when he didn't.  I don't think he can stand any other alpha male challenging him and is going to go after Chris for first thing.  Given the idol and alliance situation Chris hasn't a chance.  So I game hate Domenick and have pretty much since he raised his hnd on the beach.

Well... TPTB can’t edit something that wasn’t there for the camera to capture in the first place.  I’d be more inclined to attribute Broodly’s elimination to a combination of the two; he was a significant post-merge strategic threat AND a raging dickoholic.  ;>

But that's the point.  Is Bradley a raging dickaholic or is he being edited that way?  I agree with the post merge threat.  In one interview he says apparently Domenick talked a lot about getting either Bradley or kellyn out because they are too much of a threat together.  But we never see that.  Its all about what a dick he is, but dick vs a little irritating is in the edit and thats the bulk of what we got.

They don't have converations without being recorded.  I'm pretty sure that Domenick and Donathan at least discussed throwing the challenge.  Yes that takes away some of the drama but so what,, they can edit that like an idea too and let us figure out what we think.  No hint of the strategy to break up Bradley and Kellyn.

    I think that's awful.
