This is really old, but I went back in the Media thread and didn't see it posted. While Jeff may be more involved in casting (and this guy has a de facto title), here's an article about the guy who formally replaced the former casting director:

    https://survivingtribal.com/2018/09/14/survivor-casting-director-report/

    Hadnt seen this said before

On the other hand, Jeff’s insistence on a more fast-paced game has brought on way too many game advantages.

  2. I agree with someone who said the first season writers moved on.  And my take is the replacement writers didn't like women.  And every writer hired thereafter liked them even less.  This whole show is like  "Im so sick of men always being the bad guy, women are way worse they suck and I'll show you how bad"

Just finished watching this season. I was not a fan of Twila but my God, scout was right about the others being so damn self righteous in their criticism of her ‘swearing on her son’ controversy. What was the big deal? Have these people not watched Survivor before?

I liked Chris and thought he deserved the win. The whole thing with Julie at FTC was weird. I assume most of this “strong bond” they had was edited out because I honestly don’t even recall seeing them talk to each other in any meaningful way until the volcano trip.

I agree.  Didn't she have to apologize and apologize and like do a whole apology tour or something?  I don't get it.  I liked her and I you could tell she didn't like what she had done.  But she is someone that a million dollars is a LOT of money.  Her son would be happy.  I was pretty disappointed in Sarge's whole morality stance.

.  I fully believe this IOE idea was set up solely to benefit the returning players anyway in case they were voted out early (I would find it hilarious if all 4 were voted out pre-merge but the spoilers don't indicate that).  I'm sure they figured it would especially benefit Joe.

Sure, like it or not, many fans want to see favorite players return.  But the deck tends to be stacked against them as some sort of threat whether social, physical, strategic so I can see the producers trying to find some way to even things up.  Not sure they have found a good way tho.

  5. I had no idea this cop was one of THE cops from that picture of three in Florida that went viral.  So that's how he got cast.

You have to scroll down to see the pic, article  but I cut and pasted the words

    https://www.tmz.com/category/survivor/

The "hot cop" who scored a spot on the new season of 'Survivor' is schooling the other contestants on what he's learned from his 15 minutes of fame by warning them to delete "anything that can bite you in the ass over social media."

TMZ has obtained an email Daniel Rengering fired off in a chain with 12 other 'Survivor' contestants where he admits to creeping on their socials and warning them to "fine-tooth comb" anything that could publicly crucify them online.

Daniel warns the "Internet is a cruel, heartless bitch" where "trolls are going to work twice that hard to tear you down, spread nasty gossip and ruin your reputation."

Daniel's seen it happen firsthand after one of the cops in the photo that made him famous was accused of posting several anti-Semitic remarks to his Facebook in 2011, so it appears Daniel's intentions aren't to gloat, but rather to warn the others.

He also adds, "If a small-town country boy like me can host on the GRAMMYs, Oscars and SAG Awards Red Carpets, from a single viral photo, you guys can turn this opportunity into so much more."

Probably because (a) the “fuck it” is indicative of rebellion against some form of restriction and (b) the only thing likely to be restricting Alec’s exercise of his own SM accounts are his player contract constraints.  That particular two-word comment indicated (to me, anyway) Alec had been told not to do something, repercussions were probably mentioned, and he decided to do it anyway.

Couldn't he have been saying fuck you to anyone?  His brother, his father, a friend, random strangers on his twitter.

  7. How or why would TPTB think that the f'it comment was directed at them vs.....whatever?

    1 hour ago, ProfCrash said:

It could also be that the Vytas and then Sebastian/Jenna mess caused TPTB to change the policy and Alec was the first to test the new policy.

Vytas left Ponderosa and then posted that he was teaching yoga when he should have been playing, spoiling his departure early in the game. Sebastian/Jenna's postings really didn't spoil much, neither one of them were particularly important players in their season, but I am sure that TPTB were not happy with those posts.

The whole Jenna Sea Bass thing was one of the several reasons I totally went off the rail about that season.  It was a season where I was more involved than other seasons, players backgrounds, tracking them, instagram  etc.  Probably not as hard as some people but way harder than normal for me.  The more I learned the more I realized how so much was being edited out.  And edited out in such a way that it seemed deliberate.  I for one am convinced that Sea Bass saved Jenna from being voted out more than once because of their relationship.  They were on different alliances but acting as each others agents within those alliances, or so it seemed to me.  Pretty important strategically but it was never shown.  Along with other stuff.  I quit watching for awhile I think I was more angry than I've ever been at a tv show.

  8. Skimmed the list and Ron Clark just jumped out at me as someone who looked like one of those megachurch huckster pastors.  So I googled him.

An educator/self-promoter/huckster?  IDK, maybe I'm too quick to question.  The website is short on details and his book The Essential 55 seems also that way if you look at the 3 star ratings on amazon (to be forthright it has more 5 and 4 star ratings by far).  Its a great concept, hopefully he is more "real" than he appears.  Certainly his appearance on Survivor will do a lot for donations.

So Elizabeth commented on this over at Reddit:

"I was there. Basically CBS whisked everybody off from the studio that wasn’t final six or Christian. Those seven had press engagements. We were all told the location of the party. So we each Uber drove there. We get there and then hear of another party at Angelina Jolie’s house. Dan was especially ticked. Eventually everyone turned up at the official CBS party except Mike and Angelina. I wish we had all been together the whole time. But there wasn’t any animosity. Mike White is friends with AJ. AJ invited the final six. I am surmising this part. All that really mattered to me was that eventually almost everyone showed up. We genuinely love and respect each other. There are differences but we have been mature about those. None of our cast seems to be bitter. The different parties had nothing to do with tribal lines. It was logistical. Plus probably pride for making final seven. Lol."

"I was proud of them for showing up too. I was also super glad that Alec and Jeremy were there. It shows how stand up and genuine they are. They could have easily been bitter. But yeah I think our cast is above average. Just great crew of people."

"The “other party” was at the actress’ Angelina Jolie’s house. Angelina the rice queen and Mike White didn’t show up at the official CBS party. Or at least not to my knowledge. Perhaps I could have missed them. It was crowded and loud and I was drinking. Lol."

Bored and curious without Survivor to discuss so I googled Jolie and M White.

Guess he wrote the script for a new movie she is doing.

  10. Do people really think that Angelina is hated more than Russel Hantz?   I don't believe that for a minute.  Can't prove it so don't present it as some sort of fact just

because YOU hate Angelina more.  Just say you hate her more and quit speaking for everybody.

  11. I thought I'd cut and paste this from a Mike White interview.  I think it sums up Angelina for me although I suspect I would have wanted her out as I probably have more delicate nerves:)

What about Angelina, considering you spent every day of the game together?
In the beginning, she drove me a little crazy. [Laughs] The Jeremy vote bummed me out. When she orchestrated that, I was like, “OK, I can’t deal with her. She’s got to go.” And when I got on Jabeni, it was weird that the two people from the Goliath tribe I wanted out the most were Angelina and Natalie. I was like, “I could just get rid of these two,” but I was scared of coming back having decimated the numbers of the Goliaths. I did come close to voting her out in the beginning. But over the course of being on the island with her, I really grew an appreciation for her. She’s a lot, she has a lot of ideas and energy and likes to be in charge. That can be aggravating, especially out there when you’re running on fumes. But she’s also fun. There’s something dynamic about her, and she’s smart. She gets it. There were many times where people were like, “Let’s get Angelina.” And I was like, “No, not Angelina! I don’t want Angelina out.” I was glad I got to do it all with her.

Angelina hasn't just had some  epiphany on the show.

If you look at her PRE SHOW bio she already had this non-profit started or at least planned out BEFORE the show.  I think she just quit her job to work at it full time.

Hobbies: Traveling the world, trying new things, political activism, hosting margarita nights, dancing, workout classes, anything involving French bulldogs, and starting my non-profit Ready to Run, which encourages, empowers, and equips middle school and high school aged girls to run for student government positions in their schools.

Its pretty clear that the feelings driving her choice of non-profit are something she has felt strongly about for awhile.  I think she is just trying to leverage the moment to do something she has always wanted to do.  She is not dumb.  Socially tone deaf ok. But also from interviews (and they know better than anyone here) fun and kind and caring.  She also says she has a lot of student debt and so she has not managed to enrich herself as someone said.  And being married to a Marine isn't going to change that.

  12. So Angelina only invites the "winners" and divides the cast in the CBS party.  Hm.  I assume from here on in it will be Mike's besties that are now on the inside Hollywood track.   Oh wait, Cockran got that already.  I suppose Angelina cast member spent the entire time bending Jolie's ear about her non profit idea.

I wonder if Allison will try acting?  Angelina?

I would think that attendance at the CBS party was almost mandatory as the attendance at press releases etc.  Unless it wasn't an official party?

  13. Interesting about the wrap party because I have been reflecting on, or really wondering about how or whether a season of really reasonable smart acting adults who all got along on the game really really well....didn't seem  to be as close post game as so many other casts where it was non stop drama and they all run around together for months after.

Basically, all the IoE people are giving up is a lot of eating food at Ponderosa (and for pre-merge boots, the vacation trip).  so I can see a lot people willing to give up eating pizza and showering for a week or two to get a shot at getting back into the game at the merge.  Then after the merge, they can either continue to stay at IoE and try again somewhere near the final (not sure where exactly), and be on the jury, or they can still be on the jury but go to Ponderosa and not try to get back in the game.

Sure they are bored, but their mindset is 'be bored for a few weeks and maybe win a million bucks'.  who's going to not do that?

Based on the preview they won't be playing up the boredom but the whining "this is sooo hard"  "I don't know if I can dooooo this".  What I hate most about exile island etc is the whinging.  At least they'll have each other so hopefully that helps.

Honestly I can't believe they are doing this from a production and editing standpoint.  On one hand its, 3 tribes normal normal.  But with the pre-jury, post jury, 2 tries, more people sticking around...when they get to editing its going to be a lot of moving parts to show with lots more contestants running around.  I guess we are going to see a lot less of some people and nothing of a lot of people.

I suppose playing this game ≠ being a decent person.  I wouldn't trust Angelina for any reason, for anything.  I look at character, among other things.  She gets the same number of votes for that.

Interesting you say that because as near as I can tell everyone talking about Mike's strategy boils down to this (from Christians interview)
Was it smart for Mike? Yes, I absolutely believe so. It both spoke to his adeptness at deception and willingness to win, not just skate by. You see, I actually always wanted to work with Mike, even after the “Strike Force of Six” fell apart spectacularly. I always saw Mike as a guy who was weirdly honest. When he confesses to me at final 12 that he’s worried about Gabby (and me too, by the way) being truly being committed to the six, I thought that was such a weird thing to say. Who tells their alliance member they’re worried whether or not they are loyal to their face? Perhaps someone who will make a mistake and create an important opening for me down the line...............We’d talk 80 percent about life and the poignancy of the Survivor experience, and 20 percent strategy. He would be seemingly blunt in his honesty. So I started to put too many chips down on him as an ally. This, in hindsight, was the long con of Mike’s game. He played it well, and he played me.

Mike got to the end and got Christian's vote by not just being a good actor lieing but creating a character as an honest person.  He purposefully said and related things honestly when they weren't important to suck people in.    Is that strategy?  I guess.  The fact that everyone liked and trusted Mike but Nick (who refused to work with him after Davie)  really highlights the importance of Nick's immunity wins.

Plus Mike did not even TRY to win. He only said he was happy to be there. Never once did he mention it was important for him to win or he wanted to be the sole Survivor and he deserved to win etc. In the contrary I was under the impression he could care less about the money.

I read Mike's early exit interview from the link posted on page 3 or 4.  Real mixed feelings.  On the one hand I like Mike and while his game wasn't visible I'll concede he must have had some sort of game.  I like Nick, he was so focused, it really went deep with him.  I think Mike is probably a nice guy.
But his answer to the same question that has been asked here - how did he screw up at tribal so badly.....he credits Nick as being a worthy winner, the one to win, the right person to win.........then he sort of takes that away with "well I was there to win and I wanted to win but honestly the money wasn't going to be as transformative for me so maybe I would have tried harder if it was just for the title of sole survivor.  (Paraphrased).  So basically he seems to be saying I was so conflicted about winning I......couldn't express myself very well........or he threw it.
I mean, part of me is glad he is answering completely honestly and part of me wishes he would just say the best man won.

Mike's final tribal council was terrible! I was surprised, since he's a writer and actor. He didn't make a single argument for himself. Up until then, he had a fairly decent shot at winning, despite being rich. He played a good game, arguably better than Nick, but it seemed like he gave up at the last minute.

    See above.

The whole Angelina idol play didn't upset me as much as some, I'd be surprised if Allison was that upset, she guessed it was fake after all.  The problem between those two wasn't maybe fully outlined this season, but fake idols are part of the game now and people do try and make a show of doing things at tribal.  The main point was that Angelina seemed desperate for some kind of move, which she did need, and that was quite transparent both in her attempts to persuade and the pointless nature of it anyway.

We likely only see a small part of the tribal, maybe someone brought up how rich he was or he just said more, I don't know.

Yea Angelina mentioned more than once that she had heartburn with Allison but I couldn't think why

But I think Kara voted for Mike though.  So either way, that's a vote for Mike.  I personally can't get behind this idea, though, because the more insulting thing was that Nick wanted to take Angelina with him, not put her to the fire challenge.  But then again I'm sure in Angelina's brain she could pretend either way was a major compliment to how she overcomes everything and climbs every mountain.

She said in interview that Mike played the game she wanted/was playing so I guess she felt he played the social game better than her and went with that.

    12 hours ago, Maximona said:

Angelina never forgave Alison for that "prepping the jury" remark.  That's why she went after Alison. And Nick's comment about "dignity" was just incredibly cruel, I thought.

I like Survivor, but I can never quite get over that Lord of the Flies vibe. If the producers and camera crew had suddenly packed up and disappeared leaving the contestants on their own, Mike, Angelina and Nick would all have banded together and beaten Alison to death.  Kara is the only one who would have sat that one out.

Angelina never bothered me that much. She learned early on that if she keeps pushing, sooner or later everyone is gonna get tired of refusing and she'll get her own way. They may not like her, but at that point, who cares?  She'll get what she wants. It's an effective strategy.

Mike's game was transformative because he was like the Mission Control center. From what I can see, he played a perfect social game.

I was happy with Nick's win.

Thank you.  I could not remember what had pissed off Angelina, probably because in retrospect it doesn't seem that big a deal but I guess she can carry a grudge.  Maybe that is what put Allison off her game?
I don't think Mike would join in on Allison, he said in interview that he was close to her.

True, anything that keeps you moving forward is an effective strategy, till you don't win because of it.  But you get more money so that's still good, plud final 3 fame and probably and invite back.

Putting two comments together from Christian and Mike....in some interview Mike said he went in playing a character.  Christian has talked about spending hours on the beach late at night talking to Mike.  So I think Mike's social game was benefited by his being an actor.  He could really give every player the character they wanted and make them believe it, people were really sucked in by him.   I don't think being famous hurt either. I think its very hard to ignore that kind of Hollywood success on your beach.  Everyone wants to be friends with a famous Hollywood type after the game is over and Mike isn't like say...Weinstein.  Anyway, a great social game,  I'm not sure that is going to transform the game in some way that suddenly everyone starts playing intense social games?  It just can't work for everyone.  I feel like something is missing and I wish Christian would elaborate.

    Me too

Meanwhile.....I do wish Jeremy had gone farther in the game.  I liked his sense of humor and ability to narrate.

I liked Joe but 3 times?  Although Coach could be on every season and I wouldn't mind:)  Not a fan of Aubry and barely remember Kelley and David.

On Mike being transformative: Christian has said that Mike played a brilliant and quiet social game. Everyone went to Mike with information which gave Mike power. Mike was smart with how he did it as well. He and Christian would meet in the middle of the night so no one knew they were talking. We saw how that played out tonight, when push came to shove, Mike controlled the final three votes.

That being said, Mike controlled the votes after Nick and Davie did the harder work of taking out the stronger players. Mike was a top tier floater who played under the radr perfectly but he was also Goliath strong. Remember the “We can’t be bitches” scene? In the end, Mike was able to control the Goliath’s perfectly and he totally snowed Nick. I think Nick saw Mikeand Angelna as goats so he stayed strong with them and then got every worried at the end.

Was it Mike or Nick who said he had a final 2 with everyone?  I'm not sure I get transformative either.  Or the votes for Mike.  When editing it would be nice to see what people are talking about it.  Those talks on the beach....maybe Mike really  managed to snow Christian but again, the ability to snow someone...I hope Christian explains more in depth.

This has been the first season of Survivor I've watched in years. While I personally like Nick the best of the final three, I think Mike deserved the win and played the best game. He flew under the radar while the physical threats were picked off and then seemed to control all the votes in the end. Nobody ever cast a vote against him yet he only won immunity once.  I'm shocked they chose Alison to leave before him in a season where many players seemed to respect maneuvering and strategy over physical prowess. I'm happy Nick won, and in the end it's a tautology that whoever wins deserves to win because he convinced the jury he deserved to win. That said, if I were on the jury I would have begrudgingly voted for Mike.

This is a good explanation of Mike's game and I guess he did play a good game but it was so quiet and underedited its hard to see.  I'm glad Nick won, maybe just because you could "see the work" that went into it.

If Angelina would own up to the fact that her behavior on the show was over the top and self-centered and end this "powerful woman who is ignored" shtick I would enjoy her more. I don't think it is hate as much as a high level of annoyance that she is so damn clueless.

All of her big moments are simply ridiculous, look at me, give me stuff moments and not strong women stuff. And she has become this ridiculous symbol for how women are screwed over when she wasn't screwed over. Her game play was poor.

I don't really understand the Angelina hate myself.  Yes the strong woman stuff seems a bit much but...I just ignore it and laugh at her antics.

The "marine wife," card. I'm a military wife of 22 years and I'm not ready to give a whole bunch of extra points to the wives.  Yes, we have to move a lot (as do people in lots of jobs) and our spouses travel a lot (ditto) and we worry about the safety of our husbands ( just like wives of police, fireman and farmers.)   At every "dining out" there are speeches giving credit to the wives and it really gets  overblown sometimes.  While most of us look at each other and grin sheepishly, there are always a few like Angelina who visibly puff up and glow.  They are the ones who start to think they are their husbands and say things like "we got a promotion."

    Thank you for that.

Generally I was sad to see Davie go, I really liked him a lot and between him and Nick at the FTC would have been a very suspensful vote.  I liked Kara and wonder how she would be as a returning player.  She didn't "do" much and as a returning player she could either go to hard and screw it up or fix her game and do well.  Not sure I understood the Allison vs. Mike vote.  Every season there are votes I don't understand but usually you can explain it by people who aren't that good at the game, crazy drama, people going rogue.  Not so here.

Anyone hear Davie's comment at his vote off to Nick?  Nick was "I'm sorry I didn't know" and Davie said "Of course you didn't".  Not sure that was a resurrance that I know you didn't flip on me or a bit of dig at how Nick kept getting taken in by Mike.   However in Nick's defense it seemed to me that Nick knew Mike's ability to switch the vote at the last minute but he also (1) needed Mike and (2) couldn't figure out a way to counteract that ability.  Hence his frustration.

So was Alec at the reunion?  I forgot to look.

Zeke - blech was not happy to see him
