  1. This was a good story arc. I'm okay with the two new cops; I think the female new cop is still getting her feet wet and isn't quite sure how to act in certain situations. Guess that is part of the learning curve on working murder investigations. And I totally love the coroner (does anybody not?). That scene when Lena comes into the bar and even though she's told it's not a good time to talk to Piet, still attempts to, while he is surrounded by his co-workers (including his boss) was cringe worthy. I kept thinking "and this woman is a DOCTOR?" and do the writers think this is going to endear the viewers to the character? Lena comes across as a total flake who seems to have emotional problems, so somebody will think that this is the person who will bring "happiness" to the brooding hero of the show. In the immortal words of Moonunit Zappa - Gag me with a spoon!
  2. I can't understand why the sister actually blabbed to Jess that she was the "other woman" in the affair with Jess' husband. Especially if you know that your cheated-on sister is hard-nosed and not exactly likely to forgive you and that it will cause a riff in your family. And yeah, it was over the line telling your mother that she should no longer speak to her other daughter because of the affair. Talk about putting Mom in a hard place. But it also seems that Jess is somebody who wants to call the shots with those around her. The case is certainly interesting. I'm usually good at calling out whodunnit but there are so many possibilities here that I'm thinking that the son didn't do it (but saw who did) and that Lord Hume had something to do with it. And still, his wife is the sister of the person who had owned the house and even though we don't see much of the wife, knowing who is playing her, still makes me wonder...
  3. I think that the bottom line here is that Sunny is married to his job. The fiancee will always come second (as will any children) to the job unless Sunny decides to not make it that way. I'm wondering where this soap opera is going - Sal miscarries and she decides that Sunny isn't going to be the guy for her, or the pregnancy is saved and Sunny and Sal have a long talk about what they both expect and what the relationship is going to be. My guess is that the pregnancy will come to term and the baby will be named after Cassie but that's because that seems to be the TV show cliched way of doing things. Maybe this show will surprise me but I doubt it. And what is the deal with the woman cop who volunteers to lend Sunny an ear when he needs to grieve - why am I spacing on who she is?
  4. I second that episode #2 was better than last week's. Pretty good case, the whole team was involved and there was some character development. I'm actually looking forward to next week.
  5. My guess is that the "unwanted" will wind up being wanted (the lady certainly seemed like she didn't really mind the idea, and neither did Sunny) and the baby, no matter what it's gender is going to be named after Cassie. And it's going to be for Sunny, well, death happens (Cassie's) but now there will be new Life (the Baby). I can hear the goopy music now. Rolling my eyes at the cliche.
  6. The crack addicts would have been teens when the victim was murdered. I guess that the male one could be her son, or as I mentioned earlier, they could have witnessed what happened. Now that we know that the nasty restaurant person is the victim's mother, it begs the question: who was the victim's father? Maybe the nasty woman worked at that large fancy house and maybe some rich guy either raped her or had an affair with her (thinking of the old guy with cancer. And note what he ripped his grandson for). The old guy has apparently changed his views politically, so what prompted that? The French guy - it was mentioned that he had lived in London for a few years (forget if that was on show itself or the commentary they had afterwards). He could have been one of the squatters.
  7. Thinking about this, maybe she wasn't such a bitch before the morning when he wanted to leave. And she must have thought her marriage was rock solid (or something) as he comes up on her phone as something like "My Gorgeous Hubby" (I don't remember it exactly), which I thought as odd, unless people really do put stuff like that instead of their spouse's name. My other half gets a big ICE next to his name (and he's lucky it's not PITA instead).
  8. I guess that I'm an outlier here in not really liking this show. To me, the writing isn't great, I can't warm up to any of the characters, and the mother is just downright gonzo. The actress has a face that reminds me of melting wax and the way her part is written, you can see why the son is so weird. He's obviously supposed to be a person on the spectrum but even a non-spectrum person would be screwed up with that mother. Granted this is the first week of the new season's Sunday night Trio of shows but so far they are all kind of disappointing.
  9. I'm really hoping that the folks who posted above are right and that the show gets better as it goes forward. Do NOT like the new "Ma'am" and if Sunny is this agonized and angry over Cassie's death at this point in time, he needs some serious therapy. There are so many possible suspects (or people who had a connection to the victim). Am I mistaken in thinking that the bit of hair that was on the body looks like a black person's hair? If so, I'm thinking that the victim has some sort of family relationship with the nasty restaurant woman. The two heroin addicts would have been children around the time of the victim's death - I wonder if one (or both) witnessed something terrible (and thus the drug addiction). The old guy who has cancer might be the victim's father or maybe a much older lover. The French guy - no clue how he is part of this. And Hayley Mills is in this? I wonder if anybody under 60 knows who she is - And even though we saw her for like 10 seconds, I'll say she is the murderer - LOL.
  10. Ok, for the handful of us that seem to watch this show, I started reading the Chris Bledsoe book "UFO of God" and am finding it to be a real page turner. If this guy is the real deal (and credible people seem to think that he is), he is 1) The modern version of Job, and 2) is definitely some kind of Contactee, but more in the form of pre 1960s version. He doesn't seem to be dealing with the standard issue "greys" or "praying mantis" types of aliens. His "aliens" (or should I say "Angels", because this is what he feels they are) have glowing red eyes, are translucent in appearance, and seem not to operate with our usual constraints of physical space. He also had a couple of command meet ups with a beautiful blond woman whom he calls "The Lady". She seems to be the leader or the being in charge of what is happening to Chris Bledsoe. His experience with this being made me think of the visions of The Blessed Virgin at Fatima in 1917. Among messages given to him by "The Lady" was one given in in a couple of sentences of prose that reads like a line from a Byron poem that Bledsoe takes to mean that something eye-opening is going to happen around Easter in 2026. If this forum and all of us are still here then, we can comment to whether this prophecy is correct (or not). As of this writing, I haven't finished reading the book (and I actually have read about half of it and have just skimmed parts of the last half). I've read many, many, many (yep a whole bunch) of abductee stories over the past 55 years and a large number of them say that these aliens/angels/pick-a-name tell them that unless humans change their ways, the world as we know it is going to be an unpleasant place to live (ecological destruction, famine, war, fire, floods) in the near future, and that what the Universe is really about is "Love" and that all living beings have a place of importance here. Unfortunately, as a person who reads the papers, I think they will have to land on the White House and Kremlin lawns before they can make a difference, but one can hope. Read the book.
  11. Sempervivum, you said it all. The entertainment writers are worried about AI taking over their jobs - well, AI could have probably written something more interesting and less cliched. And I'm another person who loves jazz (I actually listen to a very good jazz radio station all day while at work) and I'll say that Gregory Porter (or Billy Porter) has nothing to worry about re Adrian Dunbar's vocal talent. And yeah, that song was just so bad that neither Frank Sinatra or Willie Nelson could have made it sound good. But then again, how many people love Britney Spears and she couldn't really sing if her life depended on it, so people like what they like, I guess.
  12. Was this past episode (featuring Chris Bledsoe) the finale? I have a sweet spot for alien (?) contact stories so this was my favorite episode. Sigh. It makes me wish that somebody would bring back UFO Hunters.
  13. Brandon Fugal certainly seems to know a lot of politicians. I also want to know why the blinds were drawn in the meeting in the final 10 minutes or so. I will keep watching this show as my other half really enjoys it but my guess is that they will never really find "anything" and if by chance they do, the govt will shut it down pretty fast.
  14. So this was it ? I'm confused- did they ever catch the actual Big Bad (the traffickers and who was blackmailing Rachita's fiance) - or will that be season 2? I've got to say that this was a really bleak and dreary show. I'll probably be stuck watching season 2 as my other half loves these PBS airing British crime shows. I stopped watching Chicago PD and that cop show that featured J Lo and Ray Liotta because they were too bleak and depressing - I'm beginning to think that those shows were almost light and cheery compared to these British crime shows. More Father Brown and less of this - please!
  15. Count me as another person sick of all the soap opera drama. Couldn't they have had Will be a happily married man with an adorable stepson and a new baby and leave it at that? I guess in TV Land happy people can't be solving crimes (unless its Midsommer Murders and maybe Father Brown). This drug thing is now going a bridge too far. The coming attractions looked to be teasing a split for Leonard and Daniel. I love Daniel (and getting sick of Leonard at this point) and I hope he's sticking around but Leonard is getting hard to take. The final straw seemed to be Leonard's whining that Daniel was unsupportive. Good for Daniel telling him off! I'm going to admit that I figured it was the guy in the locked room who was the murderer but didn't see the other twist coming.
  16. Wow, I didn't see that coming. I figured that the fiance was a controlling jerk (like who goes house shopping without talking to their intended about it? Maybe she would like a say about a house she'd be living in) but wow. I wonder if we are going to be given more of a back story as to how she started dating the fiance and how long it was after that she was promoted to Detective. It seems pretty over the top to want to kill your fiance because she was seen kissing another guy, without even a jealous confrontation over it (though from reading the papers it seems men kill their girlfriends/wives over less than that). This seems like its going to be much more about corruption in the police than a love triangle. Now it makes me wonder about the nasty boss...
  17. Well a few takeaways here: the props dept doesn't seem to know that dried blood is not bright red and there are men who notice a woman's outfit (at least in the fantasy world of British tv). Hard to believe that Ripley was going to go traipsing off to the US with this woman who he knew for like a week! Also hard to believe if he is that lonely and ready to start dating again there aren't any interesting single women hanging out at that jazz bar (not counting the bartender who obviously has a thing for him) who are actually staying put in the area. I wonder if this case was "inspired" by Jimmy Saville who apparently sexually abused hundreds of children and how it was covered up until after his death as he knew many people in high places.
  18. Mrs. Gilgo Killer is probably going to try and put as much space between herself and this freak as fast as possible. Who knows if he was also abusive at home and maybe she jumped with joy at being able to escape. I don't know how the asset thing is going to work out; NY divorce laws are pretty complicated and she might not even be on the title to the house. She will probably have to hire an investigator to see if her husband had "hidden" assets and maybe the value of those guns could come into play as well. I saw something this morning that law enforcement is going to be doing interviews with the wife and daughter to glean if they knew anything about the Paterfamilias' hobby of murdering ladies of the evening. Re the Alabama case - One way ticket bus tickets to Nashville, huh? Maybe she wanted a selfie with Miranda Lambert (Kidding!). And if there was any truth to her story (including running through the woods to escape), you'd think at the very least she'd have scratches from the trees and brush and a million bug bites. I think that the young lady's story is unraveling very quickly. Wonder why she did it? Maybe she was counting on setting up a go fund me. The Texas case. I don't think the guy was a "captive" in the way of being chained to a wall or something. I think he actually left the house many times but used a different name and says he was "brainwashed" by his mother. This sort of case may make it to 48 Hours but it seems that Dateline goes into either very attractive female victims or affluent people (usually both). I think this case would be kind of "low rent" for Dateline but you never know.
  19. Re the Alabama case - it's looking more like it was a hoax. Apparently the victim had done some very recent searches on "Amber Alert" and the movie "Taken". The police also had surveillance video of the highway where her car was found and there were no other vehicles seen. I guess there will be more updates.
  20. The flamethrower dropped my jaw - I guess that they don't have fire marshals in the sticks. I kept thinking that a few stray sparks from that flamethrower could have caused one helluva fire if any of that vegetation was dry. It just seemed like a really stupid type of stunt with no real use.
  21. I don't think he's desperate. I think he's lonely and maybe part of the attraction of her is that she is only in town for a few days. Lots of times its what you can't easily have is what you want. It could also just be pure sexual attraction and a lonely guy who wouldn't mind getting laid.
  22. I'm sure that that every one of these True Crime shows will be having a "special edition" Gilgo Beach episode soon. I live on Long Island and when they showed the suspect's house on the news I figured that there are going to be a lot of "interesting" details coming out about this guy's life. He is an architect and he is living in home that sticks out like a sore thumb in his neighborhood and not in a good way. I wouldn't doubt if the police are going to strip that house down to the studs. It was also reported today that the cops are searching a storage unit that he had. I really, really, hope that they find some of the murdered women's belongings to prove he did it with some hardcore evidence. Waiting for more info about the woman in Kentucky. At first I thought that maybe the young child was left on the side of the road as "bait" in the hopes that somebody would stop and then get robbed or worse. I'm glad that the woman turned up safe but yeah, the entire thing is weird. I'm old enough to remember the Tawana Brawley case here in NY and wonder if this is some strange adult version of that.
  23. So this is on Sunday nights on my PBS station and just aired the third episode last night and I'm not totally impressed but it was still an okay way to kill 45 minutes (I guess that this show is on commercial TV in Britain). I'm not familiar with the actor playing Ridley and he appears to be a better actor than singer. I don't understand the trope that the main character has to be mentally "tortured" in some way (in this case his wife and daughter were killed in a house fire meant for him). And what is it that the male detectives ALWAYS have daughters (and generally only one)? Is that a written rule somewhere? And what is with the Jazz Club in the burg where Ridley now lives? Nothing like quirky places with their quirky entertainments. I live in an area with millions of people and if a place that features jazz opens up, it's a miracle if they last 2 years. I guess if the lead actor liked to sing hard rock instead of jazz, we'd have a joint that features Led Zepplin tribute bands instead of jazz. And speaking of the jazz bar, it's obvious that the co-owner/bartender has a thing for our hero and at this point, he thinks of her as being in the friend-zone. You wonder if they have had a "history" or if its always been this way between them. One thing that really sets this show apart from American shows is that it features a lot of middle aged people who actually look like "real people" of that age group. People have wrinkles, double chins and are overweight. And some of them are women! Kudos show for realizing that folks can be 50 years old and not look like Jennifer Lopez. I wish that American TV would get that radical.
  24. This episode was better than the prior one thanks to Leonard, the rest of the supporting cast and the actual murder case. Will needs to grow the hell up already. Sometimes it seems as if his little stepson has more maturity. And show, please stop with Georgie's idiot boss. It's poop or get off the pot - have Georgie retire already or have the boss fired (or better yet, become a case of the week victim) and let Georgie work his job in peace. I've read that the show has been picked up for Season 9 and there was a spoiler which I won't write here. Anyway, with Dickens "sowing his wild oats", maybe we will have puppies to make us smile.
