Speaking of that wedding, one of the guests was a great aunt who was a nun and came with a companion nun (I guess they had to travel in twos?) At any rate, the wedding was during Lent but there was a dispensation for eating meat for some reason. The other nun said they needed to order the fish at the rehearsal dinner and my great great aunt said "we've got a dispensation - I'm having the prime rib!"

When I married in 1989, in a Presbyterian Church, my wedding couldn't be during Lent. I don't know if that was a local church things or for all PCUSA congregations.

  2. I agree; not a fan of the season-ending cliffhangers.

It was a gripping episode, weird masks, riddle, and all.

Happy the babies are OK. Nolan/Bailey will have quite the mess to clean up in their house!

Confusing how Aaron/Celina were targeted, since they were off duty, out of uniform, and just out for an evening. Had they and the rest of the crew been stalked for a while? It seems so, and I get how they could be targeted at their homes/apartments.

I'd probably ask them to omit the cheese, but otherwise they seem okay.

The one currently running is mac and cheese and chicken and cheese, so definitely lots of cheese.

Funny that for me the asterisks were all instagets while I couldn’t even come up with a guess for the other two.

That's what I thought as well! And wouldn't they have bank accounts, etc that she could access as his spouse even if not joint? I just don't think that they needed to add that line in the show since the viewers would assume that she would not have financial issues.

If they aren’t joint, she’ll have more difficulty accessing them. Takes time to sell a house and get cash out, and where do they go until then? It takes a while to work through the legal system. Until things are more settled, her access to cash & accounts will be restricted, and some cash will no doubt be useful.

He seemed nice enough at first meeting, so I’m glad Aunt Vi knew what to look for and was persistent. I’m not sure that if her son hadn’t been hit, she would have left when she did.

I enjoyed Robyn’s time with Delilah. D is young and has a lot to learn.

So Dante took care of Lolo, but not quite the best outcome. I don’t think his boss will be pleased.

  6. @mansonlamps I was sleepy/tired all the time, couldn’t get through a day without a nap, and I snored something fierce. After other things were ruled out, like thyroid, my doctor suggested having a sleep study. I was waking up a lot, 17 times or so an hour, and would never get into REM sleep.

So yes, tell your doctor(s) about your sleep schedule experience and ask what might help.

Not about the show, but how did you know you needed a CPAP?  I never sleep, but no Dr. has ever suggested having ax sleep study or anything.  Maybe I have bad doctors.

    Taking to small talk.

I recently started using a CPAP machine and Barbara could have used a smaller travel version. Plus, though it’s recommended to use the machine every night, she could have gone without it for the overnight at Franklin so not to disturb the kids or feel awkward

I’ve used a CPAP for years. I got way too much relief from it to skip a night. I even use it when I nap. The smaller ones cost as much as a bigger one, so not everyone can get a separate travel one. The kids wouldn’t have been disturbed without Ava’s alien descriptions.
I felt sad for Janine. Maurice was so unkind. But I’m glad she and Gregory talked and have a better understanding. Very glad the show avoided the “misunderstanding for laughs” trope.
I’ve never been to Philadelphia, but the museums sound incredible! I love museums.

didn't read that one, but I did read a time travel book that used the serial killer as an antagonist for the time travelers, so I told my husband about the serial killer and it took a while for him to understand how a serial killer related to the world's fair (I probably was too enthusiastic about the topic). I don't remember the name of the book, sadly.

I did a little search, and came up with this one: Timebound by Rysa Walker.

"When Kate Pierce-Keller’s grandmother gives her a strange blue medallion and speaks of time travel, sixteen-year-old Kate assumes the old woman is delusional. But it all becomes horrifyingly real when a murder in the past destroys the foundation of Kate’s present-day life. Suddenly, that medallion is the only thing protecting Kate from blinking out of existence.

Kate learns that the 1893 killing is part of something much more sinister, and her genetic ability to time travel makes Kate the only one who can fix the future. Risking everything, she travels back in time to the Chicago World’s Fair to try to prevent the murder and the chain of events that follows." Doesn't sound like what you described, however. Apparently it was originally released as Time's Twisted Arrow.

Does anyone know the name of Daniel’s podcast about the world's fair?

I did some googling and I'm not sure it has a name yet.

Found his site here: https://reedsy.com/dan-ciarrocchi. It says "...he wrote— and is currently producing and directing—a nine-episode, historical-fiction satire podcast about the 1893 World Fair." The last line refers to "future" plans to release his podcast. But no title.

I read the book about the world’s fair of 1893 and the serial killer, The Devil in the White City. Might be interested in the podcast, though I seldom listen to podcasts.

  11. I watched this afternoon, Paramount+, and enjoyed it. I don’t have strong feelings one way or the other re: Brady.

Love Fonda & Tomlin in Grace & Frankie. In that, Fonda doesn’t look as over-plasticized as she did in this movie. Part was the hair & makeup. They were all so good in this! Age range of the four is 76 to 91 now. Pretty amazing.

So am I the only one to get a blue string soup and caper berry gravy flashback at Trixie’s dinner party since Cyril whipped up eggs benedict (instead of Mark Darcy’s omelets)?

I have no idea what you're talking about. From another book or another show?

But does anyone in real life actually make the salt instead of sugar mistake?

I did, when I was learning to bake. I was around 10, and making sugar cookies. I can see it happening with Trixie, cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen, and trying to make so many new dishes, and feeling frazzled from the effort. I'm glad she was able to laugh about it! It was beyond rude for Sr. Monica Joan to invite herself, and make Trixie figure out how to get another portion to serve. I like Sr. Monica Joan, and see that she still has good and bad days, but the sisters and staff at Nonnatus house put up with a lot from her.

I am not a trained nurse, but it was years before I figured out that setting out the necessary ingredients before beginning to cook was the way to go. And to read to the recipe more than once before starting was helpful in success.

I am sure Tamara is a very nice person and it was amazing that she won after being in the red most of the game, but her mannerisms were driving me crazy.

I loved her umbrella blouse/top, though!

  16. I generally don't miss the cuts; seldom do I think they would have clarified anything. I do wish we could see the show in its entirety, though.

I hope Lucille goes home, recovers, and is able to return, but since the actor wants to leave the show, not likely that will happen. So, I hope there is a line later in the season that addresses how things are for her.

I was glad nature circumvented Lillian having to go to hospital for the birth of her baby. I was born in 1951, and I cannot imagine preferring a home birth to a hospital birth, but it was much more a thing in that place and time.

Can someone explain the preserves? I don't remember a stash of them, or where they came from. I know Sr. Monica Joan is well known for her sweet tooth.
