NBC is apparently in dispute with DirecTV, and that's who airs Jeopardy around here, so I was reduced to watching via YouTube.

DirecTV is in dispute with Nexstar, because Nexstar is trying to double the fee they charge DirecTV to show their programming. Where I live, that means the NBC affiliate that carries Jeopardy is not available to view. All other programming, whether national or local, is also unavailable. I have a Roku stick, so some NBC programming is available on some streaming services, but not Jeopardy, and others are available only after a few days. I've been going over J! Archive postings, but it's sure not like watching it!

I loved seeing the Urbanna Oyster Festival question. It's been a lot of years, but we once attended the Oyster Festival and had so much fun! Plus I love oysters prepared any way.

  2. Tommy tucked the knife up his sleeve because he presumed the guys picking him up were going to kill him rather than deliver him to a safe place. Were they going to kill him? Or was it just his paranoia? I could easily believe that they would kill rather than get caught themselves.

He’d have to have another gem on him for that to happen since the gems disintegrate.

What kind of idiot lights a match near ether?!

At that time, ether wasn't well known and wasn't yet used medically, so the idiots didn't know ether was flammable.

Unpopular opinion, but I like the different treatment of the opening music.

I really don't care about the practicality of time travel, what they'll do for money, ID, clothing. There's too much going on in the Colonies and I'd prefer to focus on that.

  4. Week 41: 1/5, no *

    YTD: 76/205, eleven *, two C *

I almost came up with table tennis/ping pong and Monroe, but didn't. I knew Cather because of an upcoming trip. We may include her house/museum in Red Cloud, NE, in a trip in late July.

I'll be posting about the trip in Non-Show Chat, because we plan to visit the Kit Carson County Carousel in Colorado.

Just 1/5. I’ll bring a slice of Key Lime pie for whoever would like to join the table.

A slice is not nearly enough!

  5. I just read about a new book about the women who went to Jamestown.  "The Jamestown Brides: The Story of England's "Maids for Virginia" " by Jennifer Potter.  Several of the reviews are by descendents of the Jamestowne settlement. Altogether sounds like an interesting read.

I don't eat macarons or macaroons, but since they're virtual I will bring some adorable macarons shaped like other food. Apparently they are filled with coffee swiss meringue buttercream. (And yes that hot dog is winking at you.)

I love both macaroons and macarons! I've been lucky enough to get Macarons in France, such a special memory for me. Those in the picture are adorable!

But then the last part where Martha was restrained by the body guard

I was surprised to recognize Brian Geraghty, from Big Sky, as Peter the bodyguard. Martha and John had a complicated relationship, to say the least.

  8. Join Lucy Worsley on a journey across Europe to visit the incredible locations where royal history was made. From the Spanish Armada to the French Revolution, learn how royal history is a mixture of facts, exaggeration, manipulation and mythology.

I recently watched Queen Anne: The Mother of Great Britain from this series. I'd seen The Favourite with Olivia Colman, and found the additional information in this episode interesting. I plan on watching more episodes of the series as I'm able.

  9. I just subscribed to Acorn to watch this! I'll probably find other programs on Acorn to watch, but if not, I'll cancel after I've finished this. I watched the first episode this afternoon. I remember enough from Seasons 1 & 2 to follow, but I may watch them again.

Does CBS feel that the only shows people want to watch on Sunday night contain plenty of blood and gore and machine guns blazing?  Seems they take off everything that doesn't contain that (East Night York, previous season's God Friended Me, and I could go even further back).

I really missed Call the Midwife last night; can't wait for Grantchester. That's what I like on a Sunday night!

I like The Equalizer when it's not over-the-top ridiculous. This show wasn't that. Aunt Vi/Dee's story line was good, though.

Speaking of that wedding, one of the guests was a great aunt who was a nun and came with a companion nun (I guess they had to travel in twos?) At any rate, the wedding was during Lent but there was a dispensation for eating meat for some reason. The other nun said they needed to order the fish at the rehearsal dinner and my great great aunt said "we've got a dispensation - I'm having the prime rib!"

When I married in 1989, in a Presbyterian Church, my wedding couldn't be during Lent. I don't know if that was a local church things or for all PCUSA congregations.

  12. I agree; not a fan of the season-ending cliffhangers.

It was a gripping episode, weird masks, riddle, and all.

Happy the babies are OK. Nolan/Bailey will have quite the mess to clean up in their house!

Confusing how Aaron/Celina were targeted, since they were off duty, out of uniform, and just out for an evening. Had they and the rest of the crew been stalked for a while? It seems so, and I get how they could be targeted at their homes/apartments.
