      Reveal spoiler

Removed because info is from another episode

Wait until the second episode.  Your question will be answered.

So his status wasn't revealed in this first episode? Alrighty then.

  2. Van Der Velk S3 E1, premiered here on my local PBS station last night. I was glad I'd seen an ad for it in August, or I would have missed it, though my DVR would have picked it up.

I'd never heard of Free Running, so that aspect was somewhat interesting. I too enjoy seeing Amsterdam; it's on my bucket list.

  3. Yes, I watched Series 1 on PBS as well. I didn't realize that was two years ago!

I started watching Death in Paradise a few weeks ago. I kept thinking the actor playing Richard Poole seemed familiar, and was pleased to see it was the same actor, Ben Miller, portraying Jasper Tempest in Professor T.

  4. I watched Episode one of Series 2 tonight on my PBS station.

    Quote

When a university student is left badly burnt and in a coma after a house fire, detectives reluctantly call in the professor when it emerges that the victim was drugged and the fire deliberate.

How could so many students fail oral exams finals? And one who passed cheated! Fortunately discovered, but still!

I'm glad it's back as part of the Masterpiece Mysteries line up. I've missed my PBS Sunday nights the past few weeks.'

  5. Thanks, @Clanstarling, for all the work you did on this!

I'll participate. Until DirecTV settles the contract with Nexstar, I'll be going to J!Archive. Not sure if I'll watch when the DirecTV/Nexstar contract is settled if the strike is still ongoing or not. It's a dilemma I haven't thought about yet.

  6. Unlike some, I liked the Ticonderoga/Saratoga focus. I grew up in the Midwest, and spent 20+ years in Williamsburg VA, so I knew less about the New York area of the Revolution and found that very interesting.

I kept thinking wasn't she supposed to be working in a federal agency where the entire set up takes the kind of personnel decisions out of the hands of local managers. Thus Black folk could get in the first place by testing in

No, she works for the state. It’s not a federal agency. Her boss was a weasel, throwing her to the wolves the way he did.

I knew that Dean & Cory did a bad job on their car; it was destined to fail.

Not their best episode, but it’s still a good show overall.

  8. I really liked this last episode! It pulled together some loose ends for me, and the resolution was satisfying.

I also liked the singing and the song. So the boat got finished, and Alex seems to be moving on. I'm actually looking forward to another season.

  9. Fun episode! I enjoyed McBrayer as the counselor/drama teacher. Learning play dialogue can be really hard; Dean did a good job with his.

I understand where Lillian is coming from and her concerns, but she seemed rude when she didn't ask "little white girl's" name. I was in high school in 1969, and race relations could be difficult. This was in Kansas, small town, only one black family in town.

Also get Bill, Kim, and Bruce differences with their local politician at that time and place. It can be difficult to work within the system when it seems like it's all lip service and nothing ever progresses or changes.

Best line was Bill wondering if the usher would give him his dime back!

  10. Having looked it over some more, and given it some thought, the listing of the numbers in the clue/answers listing doesn't really matter. We all know the total number of FJs should be 230. So, never mind, all is well.

And yes, huge thanks to @Clanstarling for handling all that!

I think he's just fine.  I doubt he's trying to be another Frank Sinatra.

Oh, I think he’s fine too, but several posts upthread were critical of his singing.

I just now noticed, the question count total is 196 here, but shouldn't it be 230, for 46 weeks?

       14 2023 High School Reunion Tournament episodes/games
       16 2022 Tournament of Champions episodes/games
    + 10 2022 Second Chance competition episodes/games
    ——————————————————————————————
= 40 games to subtract from the 230 total

Which would be 190, not 196?
But I'm not following what this refers to:

It was different beginning back with week 19, when the list showed 84 - 88, but the week total was 95. Am I missing something?

    Clan Starling listed:

    Week 19 • Jan. 16, 2023 - two asterisks

*84. Business Milestones.” These were first sold in 1908, at a price equivalent to about $27,000 today.*

*85. Geography Mnemonics MIMAL, sometimes said to be the silhouette of a chef or elf, stands for Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, these 2 states.*

    86. Early American History. In 1692 Increase Mather wrote, "It were better that ten suspected" these "escape, than that one innocent person... be condemned"

    87. British Landmarks. Like Sir Thomas More, 3 16th century English queens are buried at this location

    88. Television. Mike Post combined the sound of a slamming jail door, an anvil & 100 men stomping on a floor for this series that debuted in 1990

    So #84-88.

Separately, I thought we tracked all of the FJ’s that were part of the “regular” (non-prime-time) shows, even if they were tournament shows. That’s what I did.

Sorry I'm late getting this out - I was extremely lazy last night enjoying some Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream.

    Week 46 – July 24 - 2023

    192.     African Geography - The only country in Africa with Spanish as an official language, it lies mostly between 1 & 2 degrees north latitude (Equatorial Guinea)

    193.     Compound Word Origins - This compound word meant an astronomical object of exceptional brightness in 1910; it was soon applied to actors & athletes (Superstar)

    194.     Opera Source Material - Henri Murger, who was broke & lived in a freezing attic apartment in Paris, wrote the source material for this 1896 opera (La Boheme)

    195.     Fighting Forces - Formed in 1831 to help with the conquest of Algeria, its ranks have included Germans, Turks & Chinese (French Foreign Legion)

    196.     Word Origins - Theories on the origin of this, a style of journalism, include Cajun slang for unhinged jazz & Boston slang for a person on a bender (Gonzo)

After collecting all the data for this last week, I'll be posting to see if some of you can fill in my missing data.

    So, now for Season 39:

We should be moved (not settled) in Kansas by mid-August. If I can’t visit by Sept. 5 when they close, I’ll go next year. It’s about 3 1/2 hours from Ellsworth.

Road trip! Mr. Zoey and I are road tripping from Ellsworth, to Concordia Kansas for the Orphan Train Museum. Second stop is at Harold Warp's Pioneer Museum at Minden, Nebraska. We're planning on Carhenge in Alliance before heading to the Kit Carson County Carousel an Museum at Burlington, Colorado. We'll probably stop at a couple more museums before going home. It turns out the county fair will be going on while we're in Kit Carson County. Hope it's fun but not crowded. We're doing OK but we both have some mobility issues and tire easily. I just turned 72 but sometimes I feel closer to 80!

  15. We had thunderstorms Sunday night, so my recording was cutting in and out about half way through. Made it more difficult to follow the plot. Have we seen the brother yet? Were those flashbacks? I think I missed a lot.

Amusing that even Ridley mentioned he's just an enthusiastic amateur singer - I think that was the phrase he used. It sort of acknowledges what's been mentioned here, that he isn't a very good singer.

Roger is going to take a look outside in the dark to spot an intruder.  He leaves the front door wide open.  Stands around for 30 seconds, doesn’t even look on the sides of the house  and goes inside.   Yeah that accomplished a lot.

I would've checked the bushes. I went much farther the two times I searched for our cat when we couldn't find her inside the house (but she was somewhere in the house, hiding).

I was expecting to see a shadow against the curtains in the brightly lit caravan that they lived in while starting the castle repairs. So if they are no longer living there, why was it brightly lit? And why didn't Roger check inside to see if anything was there? That made no sense.

Pretty sure there's a portal at the dam due to the sounds Bree heard. Will that be a development later?

That attack at the shack made me think of the Kansas "Bloody Benders" murders. The rodent stew was sickening!

Auntie Claire was so kind with Young Ian.
