No idea on FJ, but:  ...Big Ben is a bell, not the clock. Now I feel better.

From Wikipedia:  “Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower.”  So replying Big Ben isn’t incorrect as the clue referred to the chimes on the BBC.

Mine were made of wood; I loved playing with them. I was highly disappointed to learn they went to plastic. Don't know if they are even made now. Sort of like our Monopoly game had metal tokens vs. the plastic ones today. Cheap toys today ...

At home, we had tinker toys, but at grandma's we had Lincoln logs and an erector set.  Tinker toys and Lincoln logs were wood, and the erector set was metal.  We also had Mr. Potato Head at home that used real potatoes (that we had to supply ourselves) with the plastic pieces.  That was one game that Dad would play with us.  He also played Chutes and Ladders with us sometimes.  He farmed, so in the winter he had more time at home.  Good memories.

  3. I got Centennial.  I've read some of Michener's books, although not that one; his writing is wonderful.  I also knew Ground Fault.  We had some electrical problems a number of years ago that boiled down to a GFCI that was faulty.

As for FJ, I guessed Lego; DH thought Rubik's Cube.  Imagine my surprise that his answer was correct!

  4. I knew The Help and Melissa McCarthy. I saw Can You Ever Forgive Me? on the plane to London in July.  Good movie!  And The Help was the last movie my sister-in-law saw on tv before she died later that night.  She had terminal cancer.

What was the Thunderbird clue - was it one of the car ones?

  5. I saw this yesterday, and, as the best movies do, led me to think about it.  Many meaningful moments as well.

What’s the cathartic moment, or where can I find where Ms. Wang discussed it?

Any thoughts about the symbolism of the bird, and especially how it got into her hotel room?

I wasn’t sure I wanted to see this, but I am so glad I did!

  6. I watched this over the past few weeks on netflix, and I’ve read through the episode posts.  This was a fascinating tale.

In episode 6, following the hypnosis scenes, there was a sex scene.  I couldn’t tell for sure who was involved.  Was it Dr. Jordan and the landlady?  I didn’t understand the purpose of the scene, unless to explain why Jordan signed up to be in the American Civil War.  Did anyone understand it and can explain?

  7. I watched episode 8 last night.  Really good, and the ending matched with what we know of the history of that period.  So even with some of the historical inaccuracies, I still thought it quite well done.

Happy that Meredith redeemed himself with Tamlin.  Still don't quite understand Crabtree's role in the power struggle with Gov. Yeardley.  Also, what I've read of Yeardley indicates that he's not a big bad power-hungry man, so he seems to be the victim of character-assassination in this show.  Did make for good drama, however.
