  1. I laughed when Dua confessed she felt like a rotisserie chicken in all that silver mylar-type-stuff. But her lip synching wasn't exactly on point, and the camera work didn't hide it. Just put both Julie memoirs on my library request list. Because my to-read pile isn't tall enough, apparently!
  2. In case you missed the credits, that was Hugh Bonneville, the erstwhile Earl Grantham, doing his best David Attenborough impression for the Chijohn voice over.
  3. Especially since they're public domain, and free for the nets to use. Not that money is ever a consideration for network news programs!

I hadn't known that the Nats' hitting coach is Kevin Long, who coached the WS-winning 2009 Yankees. Guess he knows a thing or two.
  5. Linda Hamilton will always have a soft-focus glow in my heart for Beauty and the Beast. I re-watched a few episodes of that lately, and no it hasn't aged particularly well, but the dreaminess and the amazing chemistry she had with Ron Perlman, well, [swoonsigh].

Biles throws the full-twisting backflip fastball. So hard to see the release point, hitters have a hard time with it... https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1187350194788143104

I have been impressed by Francoeur's work in the booth. My expectations were admittedly low, but he's exceeded them. It appears he does homework!

I went to bed after the 8th inning, so I woke up to the news. Oh, said I, the Natsies won! And, having heard myself say that out loud, reminded myself not to use that nickname out loud ever again. It's okay in writing. It's really not okay out loud.

Heh, I was just discussing the brilliance of putting Brett Gardner in the lineup immediately after Aaron Judge. A pitcher has this giant creature one moment, and this 'fun-size' fellow next. It's gotta be disorienting! (And I bet it's a reason Gardy's been tearing it up this year.) Pitchers either underestimate him or can't readjust to a smaller strike zone quickly enough.

After watching the FS1 coverage, boy was I happy to get back to TBS. Not for the commentary, but for the freaking sound-mixing! FS1 had the crowd roar dialed so far up, and the commentary so far buried, it was easier to turn the sound off and read captions. TBS's mix was far, FAR pleasanter.
  12. I hadn't known Rip Taylor had died until I saw the confetti-strewn hat-tip in the title sequence. RIP, Rip!

Atlanta fans: I was under the impression that stadium lights take a long time to warm up. So when they turn them off for the dramatic relievers' entrances, how quick are they back on again?

Jeff Francoeur is in the booth? Wow, I remember when he was the Next Big Thing! Tempus fugit, my friends.
  15. Big NYT profile on Rachel today here. Ankle injury explained therein.
  16. I suspect I'm going to be using "Ointment Scheme?!?!" as an all-purpose non-sequitur response going forward. Thank you, Ru!
  17. Fwiw, TGNS is popping up in my dvr schedule for this Friday. New season, woot!

Maybe you need a hug. Cameron Maybin has got one for you.
  20. Yes, demonstrably faster. Of course, you could opt for a wide-mouth cup and achieve the same thing without the slurping. More surface area, more cooling. Those were teeny cups used back in the day.
  21. I think? maybe? she thought that 'poof!'-ing him while he was there might be rude. I don't think she'll pass the opportunity to do it in some upcoming segment on the race.
