  1. Last night's couple kept talking about hardwood floors, but that didn't look like hardwood to me -- maybe laminate? Or do I just not know what modern "hardwood" looks like? Anyway, it was nice to see a reno that did not focus on the kitchen. I would not have chosen to do what they did (I really hate subway tile, just for starters) but still, it was a refreshing change. It was also good to see a couple making choices that would save them money instead of feeling like they should blow their children's college fund on the most expensive finishes and materials possible.
  2. I deleted the show halfway through because it looked like another blah makeover with navy lower cabinets, white shaker uppers, subway tile, farmhouse sink, etc. Nothing I haven't seen a million times before. I was surprised that people with creative careers would have such a blah and uninteresting design for their home reno.
  3. I hope they had the popcorn ceilings tested for asbestos before scraping it off into their faces wearing those little paper masks. They may have mentioned it and I missed it -- this has turned into more of a background show for me since all the houses end up looking alike.
  4. Yeah Girly seemed like she could be a GREAT dog -- obviously both intelligent and willing to learn. Those idiots just have no clue. At least they both seemed to like her and want to do right by her, can't say the same for poor Boo, even though the woman claimed to love him she was fine with him being harassed and stalked by the dog.
  5. I was at least a little pleased that this episode had some different design touches, not just all white everywhere! shiplap! rusty crap and big stupid words on walls! I'll be interested to see if Chip and Joanna wrap up their last season and maintain their "perfect" record of absolutely zero LGBT clients/families on their show.
  6. The couple on last nights Cat vs. Dog . . . too stupid to be allowed to own a pet, both of them. #FreeBoo
  7. Wow that woman last night was a loony toon. She thinks a door is going to stop spiders from going from one room to another? And she wants a "barn" door as well as the apparently spider-proof regular door, so her solution is to keep the regular door (to prevent spiders from marching around her home) and then put the "barn" door over it, just for aesthetics? And what was up with calling that house colonial? I know HGTV plays fast and loose with architectural styles but that was the least colonial-looking "colonial" house I've seen on HGTV.
  8. A Fan Once Chased the Property Brothers Down the Street, Screaming 'Open Concept sucks!' Amen
  9. The "pass through" was bizarre. The opening was positioned so that you had to reach right over the stove to use the pass through. It seems like that would be awkward at best, dangerous at worst. I did love the kitchen floor!
  10. I totally missed the baby switcheroo with Creepy's family. I am so unobservant sometimes! I will say I have noticed no Dr. Amy so far this season. I miss her, she was my favorite.
  11. ugh, Silverlake-adjacent couple. The purchase just did not seem well thought-out, given their goals. It seemed like they were working with a tiny budget (for LA) and were just too damned precious to consider moving somewhere plebian like Reseda or Downey, so bought a miniature house with structural problems close to their desired hipster haven. I was trying to figure out where their house even was -- the voiceovers coyly refused to say other than "close to Silverlake," but I can't think of anywhere close to Silverlake where you can buy a detached home for just over $400K. East Hollywood maybe? Glassell Park? Even that doesn't seem likely. I liked the floor, and I liked the woodgrain cabinets, but not together. They looked awful next to each other. Did not like the bathroom one bit either.
  12. That roast pig looked delicious. Larry should have chowed down and said a silent thanks that he wasn't presented with balut.
  13. Y'all are more generous than I am, my suspicion was that the couple moving to Las Vegas were setting up an online "escort" directory or "Uber for hookers and johns" or something like that. But I actually deleted the episode without watching much of it, since the people looked annoying and entitled and the houses looked boring.
  14. I forgot to say, I really loved the Palm Springs reno (except the wooden beam as a fireplace mantel) and thought the latest So Cal/valley couple reno was fine. I liked the couple a lot and appreciated that they seemed to like each other and not think the most amusing thing they could possibly do is to insult each other.
  15. Leather cabinet pulls = great chew toys for my dogs. At least on the lower level, it would never happen in my house. And on uppers, they just look weird to me. Like you forgot to get real cabinet hardware so decided to cut up some dog leashes and stapled them up there to make do until you could run to Home Depot.
  16. The Franklin TN home was not my taste, but it looked fine. The husband looked like a missing Property Brother.
  17. Not surprisingly, the family on last night's "moving to South Africa" episode went there for a sabbatical, not for a permanent move. Overall I enjoyed the episode though -- they seemed nice and didn't make ridiculous demands.
  18. No, the stomach isn't removed in gastric bypass. It is just tied/stapled so that there is one larger "blind" pouch in the abdominal cavity and one very small pouch that is left to process food. I've had sleeve surgery and when I was discussing bariatric surgery options with my doctor, he made it quite plain that a potential downside to gastric bypass surgery is that the stomach is not removed but there is no easy way to scope or inspect it -- so, for example, if that "bypassed" stomach develops stomach cancer it can be difficult to see and diagnose. Description of gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgeries
  19. Okay I know this isn't terribly important in the larger picture, and I am probably the only one who cares, but what surgery did Milla get? I thought I heard Dr. Now say she was approved for/getting the gastric bypass, but then during the surgery, they showed him placing a big hunk of organ meat on a table and saying something like "this is the excess stomach that I removed." There is no stomach removal in gastric bypass -- the larger portion of the stomach is tied off, not cut out. Most (80% or so) of the stomach is surgically removed in gastric sleeve surgery and duodenal switch surgery, but not in bypass.
  20. Yes, I thought there was a strong resemblance in the entire face, but especially in the mouth and chin. And when they showed the picture of George Elliott with his children, you could see the resemblance there with all (or at least most, that's a lot of children!) of them and Steven Tyler as well.
  21. I liked them despite their voices. I wasn't sure whether it was vocal fry or Minnesotaese when Mary kept calling rooms "rums." The reno was okay but kind of meh for me. All that subway tile, so institutional and bland and boring. And I really hate bench seating anywhere other than an outdoor picnic table. But it wasn't terrible, and they seemed nice and reasonable so overall I enjoyed the episode.
  22. I just meant to instruct the DVR to record the series. I've noticed that problem you mention for the main Property Brothers show and wondered about it myself. I think I decided that it must mean that it airs first on some obscure Canadian cable channel or something. But Buying & Selling does seem to have, for me, accurate "first aired" dates. Just not the main Property Brothers.
  23. I liked the couple (although I desperately wanted the woman to get a different hairstyle, though, her hair, her choice). I appreciated most of their design choices, with the exception of the tiles -- for me the kitchen floor tile looked like shower floor tile (thank @atheistgod they didn't cover the dining room floor with them too) and as I've mentioned here a jillion times subway tile is way overdone and terribly boring (to me). I'm glad they ended up with the house they did. Living next to either a truck yard or a truck stop (and highway) would be depressing, and I really did like the couple and would have been sad to see them in either of those other locations. I mean, I know it isn't a real choice or anything, they've already bought the house in question, but I was still a bit relieved when they chose house no. 1.
  24. This is the first episode of the show I've seen since I got my Australian shepherd puppy last week. She really reacts to any sound of dogs, particularly distressed dogs, coming from the tv. Watching this show (and The Vet Life) is a whole new experience!
