I did read the book and I'm pretty satisfied with how things are portrayed in this version. I am a little surprised that the series is only 7 episodes...there's is A LOT more stuff that needs to happen before we get to the finale. I guess episodes 3-6 will speed up to cover it all? "Amabella" is one of those (IMO) pretentious names parents bestow upon their kids for the cache of class and elitism they think it brings. While it isn't that 'out there' a name, you know the poor kid is going to be correcting people the rest of her life re. pronunciation/spelling. I knew a woman through a mother's group who had triplet girls. She was very snobby and had a real superiority complex. The girls' names are Isolde, Persephone & Anastasia. Several of the moms were ga-ga over these beautiful, fancy, rich-sounding names. One mom asked how she decided on such lovely names, and Snooty McSnoots told everyone she wanted strong and memorable names, so she "looked to classic literature and historical" figures for inspiration. I said to another mom later that Snoots must not have actually read any of her reference materials because if she had, she'd know that all three of these names are associated with tragedy. Isolde was put to death for falling in love with someone other than her intended husband. Persephone might have been a Greek goddess, but she was kidnapped, raped and kept in the Underworld against her will. And Anastasia was the doomed princess murdered with her family in the Russian Revolution. Good times!

Re. trampolines...there's a mom at my daughter's school who is the ultimate helicopter parent. She would wrap her kids in bubble wrap 24/7 if she could. She is very judgmental about how other parents parent...lots of "can you believe she lets a 9 year old walk down the street to his friend's house?" She won't let her kids play at so-and-so's house b/c the mom serves processed snacks like Oreos and juice. Yet, this paragon of parental prowess has a trampoline in her yard. It is positioned too close to their deck, so one miscalculated jump could result in concussion. It looks like it's been repaired with different colored duct tape several times. The "safety net" is ripped to shreds. But her kids are bouncing away on it all the time. "It's good exercise!" is her response.

All Episodes Talk: Let’s Talk About Dr Phil the Show
BusyOctober replied to Lola16's topic in Dr. Phil
I haven't watch full Phil episodes in a very long time so I rarely see the last 5-10 min. Since I have no desire to see him hold hands with Robin, I know I am not missing much. Today I only tuned in for the last few minutes while waiting for another show, and who hogs these last few minutes but Lady Lockjaw herself. She was hawking her stupid potions and pulled the old Oprah trick of hiding a sample under everyone's chair. But Robin can't do it with Oprah's exuberance because she can't open her damn mouth to speak. That woman has to stop effing up her chin, cheeks & lips with all the Soylent Green injections. When she tries to talk, all I can picture is the Tin Man, clenching out his request for rusty relief ; "oilcan...oilcan!"- 6.7k replies

S02.E10: Finale, Part Two
BusyOctober replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Project Runway: Junior [V]
I often say on this forum (& the original PR forum) that I am no fashionista and I have no clue what is trending for any season and I know I am old and frumpy. I shop at Marshalls, J Jill and other "mature" stores. So taking all my style ignorance into consideration, I am going say this unapologetically; Haawaa's collection was ridiculous. It was circus inspired all right, but I don't even know if any self respecting clown would wear what she made. I am sure there are plenty of people who think she is an amazing designer and will be a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world (cough- Kelly-cough), but I ain't one of those people. Yes she's creative, but there needs to be some semblance of wearability to clothing. Faux fur shortalls is funky for a rave (do the kid still do that??), or for a tween's idea of cool and sophisticated. Plus I didn't care for Haawaa's stink eye during many of the critique. Yay Chelsea! She was my favorite from the start. I do think all of the kids this season ( & from last season) are much more talented and innovative and poised and mature than most of the "adults" on PR. Even though I wasn't a big fan of Haawaa's or Chris' designs, they are all definitely talented and as Tim says, we will be hearing more from them in the future. -
I would love for Rhonda to prank Regan. Regan couldn't handle it and she will kill Rhonda in her rage. Then Regan will go to jail. We never have to see either annoying woman again. Win-win!

Wow, the dental baby daddy boyfriend case was a new twist on disfunctional families. The non baby momma said she got her older nephew's (possibly soon to be step son's) blessing on her relationship with his dad. So her reasoning is if this child is ok with it then her sister should just get over it and move on. Uh huh. The plaintiff had pretty bad vocal fry combined with one of those high pitched, little girl voices. Then the defendant spoke up and sounded exactly like her sister. OMG. I could never be in the same room with the two of them for longer than 10 minutes. But then I guess neither one of them wants to be in the same room at this point either.

The older con guy....he's the fake IT guy for "Saffron's" boss' company...I'm very confused how/why he slept with the woman in the bar. Who is she? How did he find her? He stole some info from her briefcase, but who's data was it? Are those numbers related to the current mark's business? Is that what he called "the doctor" about? Is the current mark skimming money and that's where the floor money is coming from? How does the the group pick their marks? Are they going after people who cheat the doctor? I like this show, but I need some answers on the con side of things if I'm going to stay interested! I like Patrick and his family. The aunt is awesome and I hope she's back for more shade throwing. I still have a problem with Maddie's baby voice. It's super annoying and I'm not sure if it's her real voice or if she just puts it on when she's around any man.

So.... I ran out of tissues. Had to change my pajamas because there were tears and snot all over the sleeves. Almost choked on a feather because I was holding a pillow over my ugly crying face so I wouldn't wake up my husband. Gave up trying to hide the crying and had full blown body wracking sobs for the last 20 minutes of this show. Then I calmed myself down, dried myself off and logged in here to see what you all thought of this wonderful amazing show and the cast. Now I need to find another PJ top because after reading everyone's posts, I'm crying again. Thank God I work from home and I won't have to explain my puffy eyes and red nose to anyone in the morning. Damn. This show has been great all along, but this is one of those monumental TV episodes that will stick with me for a very very long time.

I occasionally watch shows on this network- Dateline repeats mostly. I rarely watch that Kenda show. He creeps me out to be honest! But I did see one episode from start to finish a few months ago...a young woman was strangled, assaulted & killed in a park. The other night, my insomnia kicked in so I turned on ID....it was Kenda and the park case. Then yesterday I was tired of listening to music so I flipped on ID....Kenda and the park case. I guess it's a good thing there aren't enough murders and attacks to warrant many new shows, but I'm over all the constant repeats. Plus, the amount of ads on this channel wear me out. If it isn't a pharma ad for some ailment, it's an ad for the same ID show over and over.

S02.E09: Finale, Part One
BusyOctober replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Project Runway: Junior [V]
Totally agree Tieler fell apart at the end with that collection. I could see Van Gogh in Tieler's color pallette...the blues and golden yellow. But then it stopped. Those flowers and bees, while beautiful and vibrant, were not evocative of Van Gogh. Monet, maybe. All of you who said matronly, old lady, boring...right on the nose. It's a shame because I think even his bland outfits were better than Hawwaa's. That collection only went through because of the weirdness and pseudo-shock value that defines the entire existence of one Kelly Osborne. The PR franchise rewards weirdness...flower crowns, mismatched prints, midriff tops paired with voluminous multi-tiered skirts, wacky hem &/or waistlines... all get raves. I didn't see a lot of the other kids' collections, but with Molly and Tieler gone, my pick is Chelsea, then Izzy. Chris and Hawwaa's stuff just does not compute in my mind. So therefore, one of them will win, right? sigh -
Last nights episode gave me awful flashbacks for sure... Many moons ago I worked as a retail store manager. We were a small staff, so everyone was responsible for unloading trucks on delivery day. The store was in an historic block of a busy city, so no remodeling or improvements could be made to the building. It tucked away on a small side street; no "shipping and receiving" dock, no parking lot, no unloading zone. The delivery trucks had to back down the one way alley and park 100 feet away from our back door. We didn't have a fancy roller conveyor belt, and only one of those hand truck 2-wheeler things - it always had a busted wheel. We had to take stuff off the truck, walk down the sidewalk, down a flight of narrow steps and into the basement stock room. Repeat hundreds of times until truck was empty. Trying to remember which I hated more - the 100 degree days in August (no AC in the stockroom) or the snow & ice covered walkway in February (the landlord never shoveled or salted even though it was his responsibility). When it was time for seasonal shipments for Back to School (June) or Christmas (September), we would get 2 deliveries a week. Once I finally got out of retail, I was amazed that I could wake up on Wednesdays without back pain. Plus, I discovered the joys of "weekends". I had 2 full days off...in a row!

Good episode all around. We got a little time with just about everyone. I loved Sandra, trapped behind the boxes, trying to toss the scanner out. "...the scanner is broken". Loved Glenn "swimming" through the yogurt puddle at the end. I sure hope he gets to experience Chinese McDonald's spaghetti some day.

S10.E16: The Allowance Evaporation
BusyOctober replied to TheOtherOne's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
That was my highlight of the night as well! Thank God they dodged the "Raj moves in with this friends" bullet. That would not be good. -
I always imagined if JJ showed up at my door for dinner, she'd bring a chocolate babka, not a bundt cake. I had a hard time following the non-cashed check for gravel or loan pay back. Both the plaintif and defendant come off as a little confuzzled when faced with point blank yes-or-no questions. I don't think either of them were Rhodes scholars.
-
I hope they explain how long it takes for the cons to setup their marks. They must have another whole team to set up IDs, apartments, resumes, bank accounts....they can't just role into town and all start a new game. So far I like all the characters. I am a little annoyed with "Saffron" and her poor widdle helpwess baby voice. But apparently that's what makes men fall in lust? Looking forward to see how the three scorned lovers travel and plot together.

I really wanted to see more of Twyla's Murder Mystery party! It looked like people showed up and were mingling, so I hope Twyla's reputation for bad parties has been repaired. Also loved that Johnny has been carrying around a stranger's graduation picture all these years.

I loved that the "personal chef" was Gordon Ramsey. "Scallops...aren't for liars!". Also loved Winston's trash can vs. balloon battle. The struggle is real.

S07.E11: Backed Into A Corner
BusyOctober replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
LisaR's daughter "walked" in Tommy Herfurlgur's show. She has told the audience twice how special it is to be selected for a Herfurlgur gig, and I believe it. I heard Delilah was so amazing on the runway, she has been booked by Mark Jacons, Mike L. Coors, Dion Fustinbargh and Cuckoo Shanell. All the knock-off designers are clamoring for for D-list celebrities' children to show their "exclusive collections" for Marshalls, Burlington Coat Factory and K-mart. -
Thought my eyes would roll out of my head when COPD Rehab Repeater was appalled that JJ dared suggest she use her disability settlement for her continuous trips to rehab; "That's for my retirement!" Um...nope. First, you haven't worked in years so aren't you "retired" now? Second, I doubt you earned that much retirement credit from any job(s) you held 20+ years ago. Third, that settlement money came from a government system, which is funded by taxpayers just like the welfare you received for many years. If I had $18k in the bank and needed to go to the hospital/rehab, I can't claim "save-sies!" on that money. It can't be ear-marked for other future uses if the funds are needed now to pay bills. I can't say "Sorry, Cable Co, Gas Co, Dr., Dentist, Landlord. I just don't have the cash to pay you! I'm a poor unemployed disabled person." "But you have several thousand dollars from a (questionable) disability settlement, no? Surely you can pay something toward the bills you rack up each month." "Oh, goodness! That money is MINE! For when I'm old! I can't possibly use that money to pay you for services rendered! Let me get Byrd and the other tax paying saps on the phone to see if they'll cover my expenses until I'm ready to retire." Which is exactly why she was trying to hide the money by using her daughter as an accomplice. If it can't be detected, she can defraud the government and her creditors for the rest of her life. And much side eye to this scammer's "Very Best Friend" sitting behind her. I think she mispronounced "My Drinking Buddy".

I feel bad for the young lady, but the best thing that could happen is for her to move on and forget the woman that gave birth to her. She hasn't been a good mother. She will never be a good mother. Move on, surround yourself with the most supportive people you can and stop grieving for something that woman will never be able to provide. As much as I think he lays it on thick, Dr. Phil is so right when he tells people looking to keep or save or create toxic relationships, "he/she can't give you what he /she doesn't have."

Aaannnd I'm out. I usually give new quirky/sitcoms shows 3 tries. Two episodes of Vanessa H. were all I could take. Deleted from the DVR, but I may lurk here occasionally to see if there's improvement.

S02.E08: Race to the Finale
BusyOctober replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Project Runway: Junior [V]
The recapper included a phrase that popped into my head once I saw the graffiti...Fresh Prince of Belair Reunion. I was waiting for someone to do "The Carleton" down the runway. Or for "Parents Just Don't Understand" to be playing in the background. I guess the outfit Chris created fit the challenge, and the look they were after, but man, that was hideous IMO. And what was with judge Aya (Ana??) Cosby inspired 90's sweater?? Does know she just works for Seventeen, and isn't supposed to dress like she did when she was 17? I agree Haawaa has been a kind of "one way monkey" (TM Dmitry- best descriptive tagline ever!) with her blocky 2 pc color and pattern explosions, but why call her out for duplicating her looks while letting Chris slide? His intentional mismatched pattern pairings have been shown every week as well. His stuff looks like what happens when you add Garment workers + Gar-animals + Ganja; "Dude! Nothing matches, but everything matches! It's, like, symbolism or something" Plus, of all the kids, I like Chris the least. He's talented and probably will do very well, but his personality & his style is not for me. But I'm old, so... Love Chelsea, she has been my pick for the win since Day 1. Ninja indeed! Izzy's dress was cute this week and she's been consistently showing good stuff. I feel like Mollyshould have been in the final and send Haawaa home. If they are looking across all the kids' efforts through the weeks, Molly had better stuff than Haawaa, Molly wasn't in the bottom and her pieces always looked more polished and finished. I say "if" because during judging, they mentioned how Tieler had success through the whole season and wanting to see more from him. To me, that means that they are looking at the kids' talent and outfits as a whole vs. basing the auf-ing on the current week's challenge. In the past, I think I read somewhere that the judges on PR (& Top Chef and other competition shows...) look at the current challenge and don't let past efforts influence their decision. But based on some of the winner/loser picks from these judges, I don't think they really apply that criteria fairly and consistently. -

Catfish lady is a very broken and damaged person. It's very sad, but even with Dr. Phil's mental health experts, I think her case needs some serious long term counseling. A 28 day stint or access to a shrink via "Dr. OnDemand" ain't gonna cut it for this woman. And Ryan, as big an asshole as he is for his part in this, had better change his FB account, his email address and the locks on his doors. Suzanne-Michelle-Elizabeth-Jacklyn-Michelle and her non-existent, dead Wonder Twin will not give up on him so easily. Maybe look into a restraining order.- 6.7k replies

This! Eleanor's reasoning that her rich relatives in Philly will welcome her with open, opportunistic and cash filled arms doesn't make any sense. They are rich, powerful & influential in their own right as Eleanor herself described them. If Grandpa Moneybags is one of the richest families in the Colonies, why would he ever invite a scandalous granddaughter and her equally scandalous, penniless, divorced and disgraced husband into his world? Governor Sexy Eyes can't provide any cachet or additional influence/power/money. Maybe, down the road he could... if/when he defeats the pirates and restores Nassau to the Crown, he'd be a more valuable in-law. Maybe Eleanor's real scheme is to blackmail her family to help out financially - i.e.- give me money to go away or I spill the beans about your real rags-to-riches background. Otherwise, it doesn't makes any sense for the morals and social mores of the Colonial era.

Waaaay too much Reagan in this episode. I can't stand her whispery baby voice delivery. I wasn't a big fan of Nick+ Jess together, but at this point I'd take it back and never complain again. Hell, I'd take Nick + Ferguson or Nick + Ally's cactus as a more realistic couple. Schmidt continues to be the best thing ever.
