For me the richness of this story makes the who is the Dragon “mystery” unnecessary. That journey covered in all those books is more important that simply establishing the central protagonist. YMMV
-
The final ep. of the season is entitled "the Eye of the World" so hopefully we can put the id of the Dragon behind us. So many non-readers are swinging towards Nynaeve based on the 4th episode and will likely be upset with the Rand reveal...Silly to make these changes to draw out an unnecessary "mystery" especially if it pisses off an audience.
-
4 episodes in and there are 3-4 storylines with clearly delineated scenes. Moraine is a participant in 1 one of them and even there is not the driver but simply engaging in her role as a sister and as a means to have others engage in generic storyline exposition. Given the season will have 8 episodes I would say character dilution is inevitable.

I'll avoid any book talk but even in the context of this show, other than the Dragon, all characters start to get less prominent as the story fragments. It was true with GoT and really any massive world building story. Some may relate more to someone with a familiar face but that was always my complaint with how they lazily marketed this show.
-
Fair enough but this is this issue with having a fundamental knowledge of the story AND the fact that while Moraine dispenses some knowledge she is getting less screen time AND some of the other sisters seem rather sure of themselves as well.
-
They’re already too fragmented for Moraine to be the POV. the actions of the AES Sedai at the end of the episode just underscore why a dragon needs to emerge and provide some balance.
-
Moraine is just another Aea Sedai…The Dragon is unique and surpasses them all.
-
Opposite for me. She always had a big fish in a small pond air about her and treats people with undue arrogance

The most common Fantasy Trope is that the Hero/Heroine overcomes humble beginnings or overwhelming odds/circumstances

Really I am not looking to spoil anything for people. I just assumed the majority of the audience would have at least a passing familiarity with these relatively old books ( which makes me really old ). Happy people are in for the ride and I will restrict my bitching about changes to the book thread!
-
I guess for me it is the equivalent of LotR movie goers getting "spoiled" when the books had been out for decades.
-
What is the time limit on a spoiler? I am happy to leave people to discover the intricacies of the story or big reveals but some fundamental truths don’t seem so controversial. Who is the Dragon/Core long lasting relationships don’t seem like information that would take away from the experience. YMMV
-
Fair enough but I can’t for the life of me see why the writers would diverge from a fully formed and complete story. The source material is dense and while trimming of the narrative may be warranted diverging from the plot would be lunacy. You don’t delve into this world and the behave like a deranged writer of fanfic.
-
Sorry I wasn’t clear. I guess I meant that while those relationships exist people immediately wanted these main characters, with well established relationships to be portrayed or matched differently.
-
Fine with all that it is just some of the commenters naive to the books seem to be looking for something that doesn’t exist in this world.
-
Unlike ASOIAF the relationships have been fleshed out and the end is known. The restrictions on book talk are fairly silly as this series is well established and put to bed. Messing with the story gets you the last season of GoT or the bloated cinematic version of the Hobbit.
-
Interesting but the key relationships in the story are well established and changes would likely require changes that should not be made if they are making the Wheel of Time.
-
Three episodes in and I am reminded of how much the Aes Sedai annoy me. Hopefully they don’t change how the relationship between them and the Dragon evolves.
-
The one show for me where this is not the case is Top Chef. Perhaps it is because the subject matter is relatable and accessible to the audience. The majority of the stuff made on Project Runway is in practical terms meant for a ridiculously small segment of the population.
-
I have criticized Katie in the past for clownish designs. However Octavio came off line an actual clown. Bright red’stache and massive novelty hat ( which of course Elaine loved…) matched with that ridiculous outfit he designed underscores the fact that he also designs adjacent to the costume zone. have these people never sat behind a desk?
-
There isn't a single thing that seems authentic about Elaine Welteroth. It is as though she were created for this show by someone who thinks they are on the cutting edge but is just out of step. That Burkha was a monstrosity. The fact that the judges liked that ridiculous house coat underscores their weird tastes. Darren may be a bit green for this competition but that Burkha or clown suit should have sent those designers home before him

The drama is too much given the quality of the work

Marketing this is really important but for me a series about the Dragon Reborn and his journey to the Final Battle should warrant greater focus on Rand et al
-
I've only recently seen some of the Amazon promotional material and they make this out to be very different from the series I read. For me Moraine was an easy way to kick start the story but then she faded. With so many threads in the books they should be focused on Rand and the others from Emond's field. Then again maybe it is just marketing...

I'm sorry but the Andreas made nothing new or exciting...it was sparkly and "hot" but showed so little creativity. The fact that some of these judges, who thought prairie fashion was so on trend just a short while ago or looked like an extra from the Wild One looked down their noses at Gary's "vintage" style tells me they have no ability to reflect on their own stated opinions, rather they are crackheads for what is of the minute.
