Disclaimer- I haven’t been paying attention to the “Jim Carey” clues but I just don’t see them using Jim Carey clues as clues intended for Jenny McCarthy. If anything, they’d use New Kids on the Block clues for her over Jim Carey clues, but even then that’s kind of suspect. They should use clues for the actual celebrity, not a current or ex-husband/boyfriend. Celebrity is a loose term for Jenny McCarthy, but I’m sure they could come up with something. So, if there are Jim Carey clues, then Olivia must be related to Jim Carey.

Hey guys. I know you are very concerned about our fellow poster, Netfoot, but posting personal info such as full name, work location and/or phone number in-thread isn’t ok. Neither is discussing mod actions. I AM looking into it, but in the meantime, please PM each other of you want to continue to discuss. If Netfoot is brought back there also cannot be discussion of the mod actions in thread then, either. Again, take it to PM.

Bake Off: The Professionals - General Discussion

Jemima sounds EXACTLY like some British actress that I just can’t place, but it’s driving me crazy! ETA: I finally figured it out. I think she sounds almost identical to Amy Hoggart. -

Bake Off: The Professionals - General Discussion
Whimsy replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Bake Off: The Professionals
I think her natural hair color roots are growing out. It looks brown to me. Anyone else think, with all the teams getting sick in quick succession, that maybe Covid went through the teams? Or, at least something highly contagious. The crew, or at least one crew member, are still wearing masks. I know these are professional bakers, and my daughter is a pastry chef for a high-end restaurant, so you’d think I’d like this show more than the home-bakers, but I just don’t. I think it has a lot to do with the judges. -
S02.E09: The Miseducation of Luke Chambers

Coast Guard vet here. I enlisted, so I didn’t go to the academy (other than a visit to the campus), but yes- “joining” the Coast Guard and going to the academy are two different things. The reason it’s “free” is because you then go right into the CG as an Ensign and serve at least 4 years (from what I can recall from over 25 years ago). well, officers do make decent money, so his dad was right in that Like wouldn’t have AS MUCH money, but he’d still be very comfortable and be able to support his family. As an enlisted couple, my husband and I were doing ok, too. -

I had previously heard about the Tulsa Massacre and while it was truly horrifying, I also didn't get how you could possibly connect it to this challenge. I think, now that the numbers were added to the previous challenge, they're all going to jump on that in one way or another (tying their design to a social commentary). I felt bad for Fabio. Yes, his design was bad, but as he even said in the episode they just kept tearing him down and it crushed him. No one else was getting the same comments as him and I really didn't see anything he was doing was any worse or different than anyone else. Anna keeps repeating designs, Bishme keeps doing those weird bubble sleeves, Korto repeats things. None of them were told to push or that they were safe or whatever. I think Fabio's spirit was just crushed and he was ready to leave. There were questions about why Korto redid her top. I thought both tops were hideous, so I didn't really pay super close attention but she did have a quick comment about the first lace top getting ruined (during fitting?) I didn't really like any of these. I guess I'm too old. Underwear as outerwear is not attractive to me.

Late to the party, as usual. I just binged the entire season/series. I thought it HAD to be based on a book because the premise was so large (25 years) and no one felt fully fleshed out to me as actual people and the relationships were all tell without showing us any real connections. But, alas, there is no book thread so I guess not? This felt like a huge book that was butchered, imo. It had a lot of promise and very little deliverance.

You mean Lisa? I don’t think Maggie is a suspect. 😉

This is the episode description for episode 3 right on Netflix’s site.

This.

Actually, that’s NOT what the small talk thread is for. 😉 I created a media thread.

Yes, since the prize was sponsored by said credit card. It was TERRIBLE and awkward product placement.

I read all three books and this show was such a slog for me to get through that I waited. I’m catching up, so I know I’m behind everyone else. However, Gloria said she was imagining the ocean in her head and she was sad she’d never know what it really looks, feels and smells like (paraphrasing a little). Those aren’t her memories. She imagined them. This isn’t a spoiler as Gloria, and most of the other characters and storylines, are not in the books.

In the book it’s IT who is really in charge of everything. I just finished the third book and… I don’t know. This series is so slow and boring to me. I don’t like all of the flashbacks with George. They added so many other storylines that it’s just too different to me. Despite adding more characters and storylines, it’s still a drag for me. At this rate, we’ll need five seasons just to get through book 1.

I also was way more distracted by what appeared to be in the crotch. I know it was the stretch of the unfamiliar fabric, but as soon as I saw it I had flashbacks to Michael Kohrs' comments about the crotch. I actually liked the illusion of the two heads. Both from the front and the back. The shoulders were very unfortunate, though. I doubt Korto was doing something African-inspired for THIS challenge since that's all about color and patterns, but I think she was trying to be "clever" in her comment that repeated looks get the designers in the top. But, Korto is a hypocrite. She literally repeated herself, too. Ok, not "two challenges ago" repeat, but still. I also thought hers was unsuccessful this week. I didn't think the two pieces looked like they went together since the top was so stiff that it moved oddly on the model but the bottom was so flowy. I'm glad Hester is gone. She's very exhausting. I don't like Anna very much, but I did feel bad for her this week. Even though the ruffles were similar, she was trying to do something else and it didn't work so she ended up playing it safe and miraculously got into the top. She seemed shocked, so it's not like she thought she was the shit.
