I have said it before, the problem with the music in the first one is that it did not move the story line along, they were just musical interludes. There was no reason for the song. The second, the songs actually moved the story along. The song taught Ben how to act, showed Mal and Evie relationship, etc. Which made it better. I agree both would have been better with out the musical aspect. There is no need for every movie to be a musical except Disney wants to make money on the cross promotion soundtrack
