  1. How weird! I haven't watched Dr. Phil in years, but caught an episode today because I happened to be home avoiding doing stuff I needed to do. Robin was on and I was shocked at how frozen her face seemed. So, I googled her, and landed here on this page, only to find the above quoted comment. This is exactly the episode that was on today - 7 months after you posted about it! What are the odds? I didn't understand why Robin was crying about some diary she gave her son (who does that??). Also couldn't figure out how she knew exactly what she said to her son in each picture. I mean, it was a series of rapid-fire shots from the same moment. How could she know that in the third shot she told him she 'always thought he was brilliant', as opposed to the second shot, when she merely told him he was brilliant? LOLOLOL. Oh, and the flowing tears!!! It was beyond ridiculous. Really an insult. They must believe their audience is a herd of barn animals. My late father (may his memory be a blessing) used to always make fun of the McGraw family shill business. He used to call Jay McGraw, "my son Jay" [as in: hey, did you hear? My Son Jay just got engaged!!"]. ROFL! The endless money-making schemes are so blatantly in-your-face, it's as if they're mocking their audience ... as if they're saying, "y'all are too stupid to see that we're trying every way imaginable to separate you from your money, so we're going to be totally unabashedly obvious about it, just to see how far we can go with you sheeple". I used to actually like Dr. Phil. He had a fresh, non-coddling approach to people who were looking to get help. A lot of his advice was real and resonated with me. But now he's just the face of McGraw Family Inc., and all its perfumes, bath oils, "lifestyle" and "advice" books. I mean, who is My Son Jay that I should spend money on something he wrote? Who is "television personality" Robin McGraw that I should listen to her about ... anything?? :-/
  2. It went like this: 1st visit, Joe was told to lose 120 lbs to get down to about 650lbs. Next visit, he gained, IIRC, 19 lbs, so Dr. Now aksed him to lose 150lbs, still with the goal of reaching about 650lbs. Third visit, Joe lost 70 lbs, putting him at the 720lb mark, so Dr. Now told him he still needed to lose another 70 lbs (not 170 lbs) to reach 650. So, he wasn't moving the goal post. The end weight was always 650 to qualify for surgery.
  3. Joe broke my heart more than most of the others who've been featured on the show. He really wanted to change, but just had no clue. I couldn't believe that it was a revelation to him that his food choices had been so unhealthy. I mean, those sugary, chemically drinks alone can ruin even a healthy diet. It was so nice to see him work hard and give it his all without giving up. By the end, I found his perseverance touching and inspiring. looking forward to his followup episode. Question: are they not allowed vegetables because of carbs and bulk? I can't imagine eating chicken, eggs, and other high protein foods for months without also having plenty of fresh greens!
  4. I kind of half-watched the episode and caught this scene. Didn't realize it was a bonus scene -- just figured I must have missed it the first time around. I wasn't screaming, but rather mumbling at my tv, telling Pauline to get up and WALK! It's not like she can't do it, it's that she doesn't want to. Walk, lady, walk! Very infuriating. And yes, indeed, she said "toesies". LOL! I said the very same thing a few pages back. Poor Dillon has that resigned countenance like the hoarders kids. Like, "ok. This is my life and there's nothing else". Tragic.
  5. I did that too, then graduated to adding Nestle's Quick chocolate powder. Man, does that ever make any cereal taste amazing! But I haven't had cereal in decades, because I can't justify the calories and sugar. Besides, I can't stick to normal portions like 1/2 cup cereal and 3/4 cup milk. When I ate cereal, it was 3 times that much!
  6. Huh? I missed this (don't watch the show often enough). Are they really separated? Where do you know this from. Wait ... I'm confused. I thought the Browns decided to do this as a ratings stunt - ie, to gain another season from TLC. I know it's all speculation and we have no facts aside from their spin, but why would the Browns want to hide the wife swap from TLC? What would they gain?
  7. I was quite surprised in the tell-all episode, that it was rational, logical Janelle of all people, who worried that outsiders would interpret this move as a promotion for Robyn. Everybody dutifully shook their heads "no, of course not", but come on. They all know it's a promotion for Robyn, otherwise they wouldn't have to hash and rehash this decision and its implications over and over again.
  8. Oh, right, the honeymoon. So much for legal marriages being unimportant nuisances imposed upon these poor spiritual beings by evil society. If legal marriage is so insignificant in their estimation, then why are the newlyweds (who have been "spiritually" married for 5 years already) off to celebrate the signing of a piece of paper by flying to Hawaii for a romantic getaway? Will Kody be taking each wife on an erzatz honeymoon to celebrate the restructuring of the family status? >:-{
  9. Oh, I think Janelle is fully aware of what she's got. But she's so checked out emotionally, that I don't think she gives Kody's antics a second thought. I'm guessing at this point her calculations are purely pragmatic.
  10. Sorry, I just ... can't. This divorce is the stupidest thing Meri could have done to herself. Why is she falling on her sword for Robyn?? Unless she wants to divorce Kody to run off and have a better life, never to look back, there is no rational reason for her to have done this. I'm actually ANGRY at Meri. And I'm angry at Robyn's fake weepiness. What is she blubbering on about? She's just been promoted to Wife #1!! Does she think we don't know she's doing the happy dance in her head? Ugh. I can't with this show.
  11. Still not sure how Pauline met those rigorous requirements to have her surgery approved.
  12. I'm torn about whether the huge spread of unhealthy food was a production decision (to up the drama), or just general ignorance about what constitutes healthy food. I tend to think it's ignorance. When I grocery shop, the only "processed" foods I buy are canned tomatoes and beans, and frozen green peas. But I do love cooking healthy from scratch, so shopping for raw ingredients is a no-brainer for me. I imagine many, many people buy ready-made meals and other convenience products because processed-food companies seem to have been thriving for many decades. So, the unhealthy spread was likely a typical dinner that this family would not have deemed unkind or inconsiderate. Anyway, I'm in the 'eat-whatever-you-want-in-front-of-me' camp. If you're trying to lose weight, or quit smoking, or quit drinking, or whatever ... you're better off learning how to live your life among people who continue to live their life as they wish to live it. No need for the world to change for you. I say this as someone who has both quit smoking, and been on plenty of diets in her lifetime.
  13. Can they not find a pair of Crocs that fit?
  14. I wonder the same. Pauline told Dr. Now that she had to eat every 3 hours because she'd get dizzy or nauseous or something. Dr. Now told her emphatically to eat only 3 meals a day, which she obviously refused to do. But still, even with eating small meals every 3 hours - how could a post-surgery 600lb person stuff in enough calories to maintain their weight? I just don't get it.
  15. Did they say if the husband has a job?
  16. The virtual beauty bar has got to go. Maybe the women don't look ridiculous there in the studio, but it doesn't translate well on TV! When Stacy says something like, "Oh, now that's a pretty colour on your lips" - and what I see is radioactive Joker-pink - I always think she's being sarcastic, until I realize she's not. Bizarre. The people on the street is another fakey-fake feature of this show. They're obviously hired actors and not random pedestrians. How else do they get the "after" opinions just minutes after the makeovers are completed? They get the opinions before the Big Reveal, so it has to be done on the spot with the hired actors at the ready (with scripted lines). Why did they cancel WNTW? It was very popular, and Stacy and Clinton had such great chemistry. Couldn't he do The Chew and WNTW at the same time?
  17. I rewatched the show last night and had the same thoughts. There is simply no reason to have such a bad haircut. We need to cross-polinate with Stacy London's new show - Love, Lust, or Run.
  18. Although I love the taste, I hardly ever eat fast food mainly because it makes me feel unhealthy. Even after just one meal of a burger & large fires, I feel greasy and heavy and unhealthy. It boggles my mind how people can function on a steady diet of McD's, KFC, Pizza Hut and all the junky snacks in between. Many years ago, on one of my diets (been gaining and losing the same 15 lbs my whole adult life) I trained myself to eat lots of vegetables, and that made all the difference in how my body felt. I can't imagine life without a daily dose of fresh produce! These gastric bypass patients need to relearn how to eat for health. I wish the show would incorporate nutritionist advice and perhaps home visits by support staff to teach grocery shopping and cooking basics. Someone like Pauline needs to be taken by the hand and shown step-by-step living skills.
  19. There's a picture of her in a hospital bed, and also a few pictures of her posing in what looks like progress shots. She definitely looks significantly smaller in some shots compared to others.
  20. Wait, so she'd already had weigh loss surgery a few years ago?
  21. Tragic waste. He looks so checked out, as if he doesn't feel like he actually exists. reminds me of some of the Hoarders kids who were resigned to living in squalor. How fake was it when she perkily said to Dr. Now, "Oh! That was THEM calling??" as if she didn't know. Unbelievable.
  22. LOL, I can't believe you noticed that, too. He talks with that machine-gun delivery of old film-noir. I didn't take it that way at all! Sounded to me like she was happy the twins would experience life on equal footing with similar challenges, and have an ally for life who 'gets it'. Mom grew up in a family of normal sized people -- maybe she always wished she had a sibling who could understand her perspective. Anyway, I'm pretty sure she would have dealt with it if one of the girls was regular sized (probably in the same semi-neurotic way she mothers the small kids, lol).
  23. I was just coming here to post this. Couldn't believe he approved her surgery after she lost weight in hospital. The whole point of making them lose 20-50 lbs is to see if they can control their impulses, and she couldn't do that on her own. Dr. Now should have insisted that she lose an additional 30 or so lbs after being released as a condition for surgery. It was clear she wasn't psychologically prepared to make changes.
  24. This made me crazy. She complains that she's bored in Texas, having nothing to do all day but sit on her butt and watch TV. Why couldn't she spend the day grocery shopping for healthy ingredients and cooking healthy meals? Or making a salad? How hard is it to make a fricking salad with some baked chicken breast!! You don't need to be Julia Child for that, jeez. Fast food is full of salt and fat and calories ... and it's expensive. How much does one have to eat to sustain 500+ lbs of body weight. And how does a person with gastric bypass fit all that food in to sustain that 500+ lb body weight? This episode left me stunned.
  25. What show is that? Is it just me, or is there a touch of borderline hysteria in the mother at all times? lol They seem like a nice family, but what's the point of this show? We already have Jen and Bill - who are lovely - with their gorgeous adopted kids. Will every little family in America get their own show?
