  1. Gemma said the funeral took place two days before. Usually, the headstone isn't ready that soon and there's a temporary marker in place for a while.
  2. The ending of the season and show has to be Jax finally, truly realizing what his mother has done and who she really is, then doing something about it. I still find it hard to believe that he's forgiven her for her role in his father's death. I think we're supposed to think Jax has done some mental gymnastics to blame it all on Clay.
  3. Gemma just set up an innocent man, a member of the Chinese gang, which of course is going to cause a whole gang war. When Jax finds out that Mommy Dearest was really the one who killed Tara, he'll realize what epic level of destruction and pain she's caused to him, his kids, SAMCRO, the other gangs/MCs, and the peace he was trying to broker. He'll lose his mind completely. That's when Gemma will pay and not before. (edited because of issues I'm going to blame on auto-correct, but were probably all my fault)
  4. Remember that interview at the end of last season where Katie Segall said she's worried that people would start hating Gemma? She can stop worrying about that. Entirely.
  5. Perhaps because he's usually the only one among the judges who has actually designed and made clothes. Heidi is a model. Nina works at a magazine. The guests lately tend to be actors, business people, and "personalities". He's likely to be the only one who can look at a seam and see more than obviously good or bad sewing.
  6. Ambergris is a product of the digestive system but not feces. It's secreted by the liver and travels down the bile duct into the digestive system where it forms masses in the digestive system. Sometimes squid beaks can be found in it, leading some scientists to suspect that it's purpose is to coat pointy or otherwise sharp things as they pass through the digestive system so that they don't injure the whale. People refer to it was whale shit or whale vomit, but it's not strictly either.
  7. I thought he said "I've never heard the woman make a joke before". Certainly he must have been teased by a few women before, at the least by some female relatives.
  8. The thing is, though, that the models are there to show how the dress or outfit looks when worn. Designers and design judges have to consider potential wardrobe failures, what the construction of the garment is like, etc. The models know this. It's part of the job, just as walking around the sewing room half nekkid during fittings is. You or I might not want that done to us, but we didn't pursue a career as a model and particularly in a judged design competition.
  9. Who didn't know how to operate a sewing machine.
  10. Speaking of highlighting the jewelry, how did Amanda's outfit highlight or compliment that bracelet? The judges discussed the jewelry for the other contestants but didn't mention it much or at all for Amanda. The answer is that the outfit had nothing to do with the bracelet at all once Tim told her that those shapes on the back didn't look like hearts. Yes, the red of the hearts goes with the black and white of the outfit, but most colors do.
  11. Amanda's failed on a variety of levels. Did it showcase the jewelry, in this case a bracelet? Did the outfit somehow compliment the bracelet? While the judges looked for this sort of thing with the other outfits, they totally forgot about the jewelry for Amanda's. Odd.
  12. The outfit is a POS. Maybe if she kept her tacky robe and put it over a long, slim, graceful dress in an interesting color? As it stands, it's fugly and it's the same kind of fugly she was called out for a couple weeks back.
  13. I think bring Char back was a mistake. She seems like a really nice person, but her skills are limited. On to the outfits: The Good: Korina: I don't like her, but this outfit was WOW. I figured she'd be auf'ed when she was picking that fabric at Mood, but she really made it into something jaw dropping. Got to give credit where it's due. She was the clear winner this week. I don't have confidence that she'll be able to keep this up, however. Sandhya: She was on the cusp between Good and Meh. It's a gorgeous dress. I love how she worked the pattern and solid color to good effect. Very nice, but not jaw dropping. I'm not sure it was red carpet, either. A very nice upscale cocktail party perhaps? That said, it was beautiful and I'd like to wear it. Sean: This, too, was a WOW dress. As the judges said, he did the right thing is not having the dress outcompete those jewels. The velvet was a brilliant choice. this deserved to be among the top, for sure. The Bad: Alexander: He was on the cusp between Bad and Meh. No, it didn't work out well but he had an interesting idea that COULD have been amazing. Maybe it was the fabric. Maybe he didn't have the skill to carry it out. While it WAS an interesting idea, it wasn't exactly a novel one. We've seen many many dresses on red carpets with the same idea. Alexander gets the "at least he tried something" award for the week. Amanda: Good grief, she HAS to have blackmail photos of the judges. That was a fugly outfit and a variation of another fugly outfit she'd recently sent down the runway. How on God's green Earth was she in the top? That was an embarrassment to P.R.. She should have gone home. Samantha: Banal. Looked well made enough, given the time consideration, but I was surprised that she thought a couple of folds on the skirt would be enough to carry her through. As the judges said, the bottom of the pack has been sheared off and the middle is now the bottom. She needed to go home, but it should have been Amanda leaving. The Meh: Char: This dress was fine. You can see something like it in stores around the country and it's been on the racks for years. She does a nice job. Not a great job. Not an innovative job. A nice job. Just as she's done in most challenges, other than the tweety bird one. Emily: Lovely and flattering. Not jaw dropping, but well done. Fade: Not Fade's week. Just nice enough to keep him out of the Bad category. I think his first incarnation, the one Tim said looked like an elastic bandage, was much better. Kini: This dress looked between when the model was walking than when she was standing. As the judges said, the bust didn't fit well. I did like that he tried something different and it's not a standard gown you could buy off the rack. I had it pegged as something for Kim Kardashian, assuming that Amanda made it a bit more low cut.
  14. Agreed. I was hoping for an old school neighborhood boss who keeps things calm around the Square and runs his businesses (legal and not) with a strong hand. It would have been a good contrast to Andy. I'm very ready for the whole Den murder thing to be over. I'm tired of both Chrissy and Sharon, not to mention Dennis. It HAS to finally be coming to a head. After Chrissy told the cops about Sam being the last one to see Den, I really thought they might be able to link Den's disappearance to Andy's death. Maybe Den pushed him then ran off, that sort of line of thinking. It's also time to give the Miller family a break from being a primary plot line. We had A Very Special Episode where Leo OD'ed. Let them sink into the background for a while. The only thing really good about that story line is that it gave Pauline something to do rather than just sink into being a complete harpy. Honestly, I'm enjoying Ian's family especially now that the pouty kid drama has been racheted down. Dot learning to drive is a nice plotline as well, sweet and funny at the same time.
  15. Very true. But at the same time, I wonder why some of these designers don't work out a handful of basic designs before hand or learn how to make a series of classic shapes of dresses, pants, and tops. Some obviously do and it shows. For an unconventional challenge, every one of the designers should be able to make a strong shift or A-line or other basic shape to use as the basis for their design. Imagine if you were a chef and someone handed you a new sort of fish. Most chefs would stand there and think "Hmm, a nice firm white meat, I think I'll use that method I like for halibut with this.". A chef equivalent to some of these PR contestants would think "A fish! I should cook this, probably. I wonder how that could be done?".
  16. I agree with you about Kini and Sean. The judges should have known that Kini made the top that Sean designed and then let them sort the issues out. I like Char, but she wasn't sabotaged. She and Sandhya worked as partners in the design phase and in purchasing fabrics at Mood. Char suggested yellow, Sandhya agreed that citrus shades were the way they should go. One of them COULD have made a fabulous yellow dress. They didn't. Char's was an epic disaster. Sandhya's was bad but perhaps slightly better than Char's. Char's biggest problem is that after a nice beginning in the season, she showed that she doesn't have enough range yet. With some experience, she'll be a strong designer.
  17. After watching the finale, something has been bugging me. Why didn't the Volm figure out that the base was on the moon? Couldn't their ships pick up the big blasts of energy heading from the moon to various spots on Earth? Probably for the same reason that the Espheni aren't able to pick up infrared (aka heat) signatures and find the humans when they're hiding.
  18. The pressure brings out all sorts of behaviors we're normally able to control. You can see this particularly with people who are repeats on the show or All-stars. I seem to recall more than one saying that they didn't show their talent or normal self on their first season and want another chance to do so. Fine, until the pressure ramps up again.... You can also see it in the difference in behaviors during the reunion shows. Sure, some folks are nuts or bitchy during the reunion show but most seem to be back within socially acceptable ranges of behavior. Amanda is probably a lovely person away from the show, perhaps with a slight tendency toward pretension since that what appears to be coming out of her in spades under stress. She hasn't become the out and out hell bitch that others have, including her first season BFF's, because her personality goes a different way. That said, she consistently has trouble in teams, including this week. Once or twice, it's because she's paired with a looney bird of some kind. When it consistently happens, there's something up with her, too.
  19. Exactly. Just with New England-ish bedroom furniture rather than French provincial. Will Tom turn into a giant space baby and bat away Espheni space ships?
  20. I really think they're going for 2001 A Space Odessy gravitas. Mason will probably end up as the human link to the wonders of a massively advanced civilization etc etc etc.
  21. She could have, though. Amanda's fringe-again-but-not-quite-fringe-again dress was a few millimeters from flashing crotch. No one could sit in that dress. She's seriously one note. Char, as much as I like her, needed to go home. Her range is still limited. She needs a bit more experience, but she's not the only contestant to fall into THAT category.
  22. Exactly, keep in mind that we really only heard Amanda's side of it. It's hard to believe that both Char and Korina spontaneously cracked at the same time and laid into Amanda without provocation.
  23. She can read human minds, but not vampire minds. The disease was making him more human. Someone (Jessica?) noticed he was getting warmer, too. They should have done more with this or drop it entirely.
  24. All Bill had to do is walk out in the damn sun on any day. No, he mopes around watching the disease advance (then conveniently stall) then asks Sookie to kill him. Melodrama, thy name is Compton. I used to like Bill when he was away from Sookie, then grew to dislike both characters immensely. I wish the finale had had about 10 minutes of them total, then dealt with the more interesting minor characters.
  25. Exactly. Have a "Heidi dress" roughed out in your head and practice a series of basic dress/pants/blouse shapes that you can modify or augment to fit a challenge. I'm constantly surprised when these designers can't pull at least a general idea out of their heads right away.
