  1. I saw a new promo for Morning Joe during the evening shows, and I howled at their choice of banter, with the FOUR-HOUR show on my mind: Willie: "Things can't possible get any worse, can they?" Joe: "Of COURSE they can!" <Me: "Yes, they could go to four hours!"> (For the record, I'll note that set of lines is in Steel Magnolias, among other places.)
  2. At the end of the Thursday show, Rachel said that "Mehdi Hasan will be sitting in for me tomorrow." I don't think I have ever heard her announce in advance that she would be taking Friday off and noting who would replace her. This might be part of the more flexible plan I keep reading that she wants in order to remain with the show. I have to say that I appreciate knowing the Friday host in advance. Even though he is not on my favorites list.
  3. Four hours of MJ? Yes, they will be repeating segments. ETA: As I watch Mika valiantly struggle to wedge KYV into the final eight minutes, it occurs to me that her message of hope for women over 50 might get its own hour.

I am tired of the rotating guest hosts on The 11th Hour, and wish they would just announce a new host. Mehdi Hasan has been particularly irritating, with his snarky remarks about all sorts of people, calling DT "the former guy" and Biden "the current guy". I don't mind when late night comedy hosts do this, but this is a news show. Tonight was the last straw, when Sen. Collins was saying "we have plenty of time to choose the next justice of the Supreme Court and have a good process," and Hasan said, "Well TOO BAD she did not say that about Amy Coney Barrett." EXCEPT SHE DID! And then Sen. Collins voted against the nomination. (and I am no fan of Collins *or* ACB) This is pretty basic knowledge for a news show to have at hand. https://www.collins.senate.gov/newsroom/senator-collins’-statement-supreme-court-nomination
  5. Thank heavens that they are spending the first 15 minutes talking about one of the great crimes against humanity: that Pete Rose is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame. And numerous others “who were no angels,” but should be elected to the Hall of Fame. (Joe, Willie, Jonathan, and Mike B all had a lot to say.) Mika came on and said that they could have said all this in two minutes. They even started this discussion on “Way Too Early”, which Joe said he had never been on.
  6. Someone linked the original series videos (with advertisements) above, along with BritBox, but I cannot find the link. Any chance you could provide that again? I miss the original cast and ambiance so much, and now I am curious to see if I have romanticized it all! Don't need the BritBox link!
  7. I loved the reflective geometric fabric Kristin was wearing in the monologue. The dress looked like a Christmas tree ornament.

Robert Costa is leaving the Washington Post and taking up a position (as political correspondent, not hosting) at CBS News -- so I am guessing we will not see as much of him on MSNBC going forward. This article also mentions that David Fahrenthold is moving from the Post to the NY Times, so he should be just as available as ever. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/20/business/media/robert-costa-cbs.html
  9. I thought the Thursday show was supposed to be an extravaganza about the Biden speech -- didn't Lawrence O'D say he would be watching from home in a "semi-reclining" position? But it became a show from Rachel's bunker? Also, I thought the guest host on Friday had hosted for Rachel previously, but Jonathan Capehart congratulated him on his first 9:00 Friday show. And Rachel is back on Monday -- thanks for telling us!
  10. I tuned in for the conclusion of MJ, and my digital box said the MSNBC was on, but all I could hear was a Mika infomercial. And very light on the “info” component. Mikamercial? How is this acceptable on a supposed news show?
  11. They started the show right, with an homage to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but then did over ten minutes on football while Rev. Al Sharpton (invited to speak about issues related to Dr. MLK Jr.) turned into a statue and glowered as they went on and on about football. They should have waited to put him on camera until they were ready for him.
  12. Joe, Robert Redford did NOT play Carl Bernstein in the movie. Dustin Hoffman did. But I did enjoy the Bernstein interview!
  13. Can we live comment when it airs on the west coast?
  14. For me, the tears started when I saw the card that said February 28, 2020. I went back in my email to that date. In this NW corner of the country, we knew already how bad it was. There had already been deaths and 27 cases of COVID at a nursing home two miles from where I live. Our university was already getting ready to shut down, and people were buying massive amounts of shelf-stable groceries. We have not yet hit "NINETEEN MONTHS LATER" in terms of recovery. As I just noted, it hit this country of USA that week; the first known epicenter and cluster of cases in a nursing home near Seattle was in the last week in February.

A new weekend host for MSNBC: https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/former-biden-adviser-symone-sanders-to-host-msnbc-show/
  16. Gah, I watched this On Demand, where CBS does NOT allow viewers to jump forward, and the stream stopped 12 minutes before the end. When I refreshed, it started ALL OVER again, trying to make me watch the first 108 minutes all over again, with no possibility of jumping back to where it had stopped. Many thanks to the live chat for indicating what happened at the end! This was too tame to watch twice.
  17. Thanks! I got lucky, and saw the section where Amanda Gorman read her poem for the new year. Then I just needed something silly on while I cooked.
  18. Is there a thread for AC360 or the New Year's Eve show? Seems like there must be, but I've searched every way I can think.

Completely agree—the same with weekend evenings. MSNBC really does not even try to pretend to cover need except on its own terms, not when the news is begging to be covered. How stale to want to know about the wildfires and to see a rerun of Joe and musicians.

I would watch Al Franken every night, but no way would MSNBC choose him as a host for a show. The backlash would be destabilizing, and there are significant regular guests who might like Al just fine, but would not be on his show. Jonathan Capehart is always well prepared and does not let his personality dominate the actual news -- he does not have the big star power yet, but it would be a great shift to see some diversity in the nighttime lineup of hosts. And because I always salute Chris Jansing when she has done a big sprint of hosting -- I really enjoy her style and even keel. But TPTB are not going to go with a host older than Brian and who does not have the magnetic draw of a major news host.

Was Heileman anti-cat???! 🐈 My theory about the Brian replacement is that the current crop of guests are not “it”, because they will want the new host to be a fresh presence.
  22. I liked that they closed with the sax player and pianist -- on that beautiful stage. Hanks was on the East Coast for the Bob Dole funeral, and spoke at the special commemoration for family and staff at the WWII memorial.
  23. Um, COVID can have the effect of wiping away weight. Sometimes you look better, but man, it was my least favorite way to lose weight ever. How did it not occur to me that this could/would happen? I was so surprised when Tom Hanks walked in. Would have loved to see his sketch. Loved how Hanks ("don't call me Hanks") and Fey were laying off each other. Oscar-level fake laughter from Tom. Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Eddie Murphy -- this is a great gift -- thank you, SNL, and PLEASE stay well.
  24. Funny, I was just thinking of that as the "11th Hour" went through its first phase of transition. I wonder if Rachel would find that as funny these days? And there was always that pause: "And now, it's time to go..................to PRISON!"
