  1. Roman is desperate for family. He stayed with his father despite his father's abuse of him. Then his siblings invite him to be partner, and he pushes that. When Kendall wants to kill the whole deal, which wasn't the plan, Roman folds for the sake of being aligned with his brother (and wants his sister to be aligned, too). And he was pissed at Mattson because Mattson didn't wait for the Roys to look like a family at their father's funeral. At minimum, Kendall and Roman should have replied "okay, that's another $40 billion then." I mean, don't they have any idea what ATN is worth. What kind of prepping did they do? They really are just mimicking their father without his actual business acumen.
  2. They could have just shown Charlotte pregnant?
  3. This show has gone from comedy to tragi-comedy this season. Knowing that Midge never stops being self-centered makes it even worse. I'm also quite tired of the exaggerated comedy like singing the Caisson song and Abe not taking the woman's hand off of his thigh. Yes, one may be stunned by that move, but not so stunned that they don't remove the hand, and then stammer something. He's not 15. It's just insulting my intelligence. And by g*d, that man sneezing repeatedly without covering his mouth. It's not like people just started doing that in the 70s or something. My favorite, too. I actually laughed out loud. The Eisenhower one didn't make sense to me. Heart attack victims don't become incontinent.
  4. I was okay with the happy ending. The show is over; let's let all plots tie up pleasantly. Agree about Otis though -- we barely saw him to understand that there was still True Love there. (I can't remember now what the falling out with him was about in season one? Was he redeemed only by finding G's mother?) And so tired of Charlotte. Didn't care for the Surprise! Lydia likes someone else! pulled out of a hat. Glad only for Colbourne to be happy. (Better would have been he marries Lydia and Charlotte becomes the spinster teacher.) Really was just rooting for Lady Susan and the minister's sister. WTF was that with Mr. Parker leaving his dying wife's bedside to visit Old Town??? Why couldn't he wait? Fortunately for him, she was Not Dead Yet when he returned. (I never understood this plot -- does he somehow own the land that Old Town sits on? That's why he could evict everyone?) Why did Georgiana's mother leave and then come back? Besides Plot Reasons. She was upset by the money, left a note saying that, but then came back anyway. Couldn't she have just gone to Georgiana with the money and told her about it? (I guess she went to London to see if Otis still loved G, but she could have sent a note to him instead? Or told G "I'll be right back," since going to London seems to only take half a day.)
  5. Ditto. It’s like Katherine got the best costumer and Maggie the worst. Lovedmthat Katherine’s lipstick color matched her shoes. But where and when exactly did Katherine have her hair done? Why did Greta’s parents need to bring Katherine’s boudoir present early? No presents given at the wedding? It’s not like they were able to drive it home to avoid a crowded car later. ‘Why did Eddie have Greta’s suit at his apartment. We saw him earlier at Katherine’s house bringing something in a garment bag to her. What was that? Her dress? But Greta’s suit wasn’t, I don;t know, ready yet? (We know it wasn’t;t at the cleaners, because no bag on it at Eddie’s apartment.) can’t find it above, but kudos to the poster pointing out how awful to have Greta standing at the altar like “the man” while Katherine walked up the aisle with her mom. as for the discussion about gay couples wanting the pageantry of weddings, they want it just the same as many hetero couples do. Also not my thing (eloped), but i get that some people like to do this. Regina should send the video of her rival to a tv news station. ‘Also, she made her own video wearing a long sweater over her wedding dress, with the living room curtains in the background? i thought Rome was some really good documentarian who would know how to stage this better. I attended a wedding reception where some parent went across the street to get chicken nuggets for their kid from McDonald’s. why did they wait until the wedding day to paint the life ring? And Maggie was painting it in her nice dress? Heheh, nuggies . Is that something sexual?
  6. I think they said because she could talk with Augusta better. Of course, Colbourne didn't know then that it was her talking with Augusta that resulted in this mess. And yeah, I figured it was to assist the romantic storyline, but then nothing romantic happened! So WT-heck? (Also, just being petty, but why did the writers have Charlotte suggest *in the morning* that Colbourne try to sleep after travelling all night? Wouldn't that have been a suggestion at, say, 2 a.m.? "Get some sleep. We won't be there until after dawn.")
  7. I thought the same thing, then figured "okay, maybe the carriage only fits two people?" But then it fit Augusta just fine for the ride home. Made no sense that Ralph did not go too. Besides the decorum issue, he was upset with Charlotte's "just one more thing" (TM Columbo) so could have said "I'll come and help find them too."
  8. I don't think the tickets were cancelled. Miriam's mother said the bank called to say she'd won the trip. My understanding was that the matchmakers made that call. Thus, there were no cancelled tickets because there were no tickets to begin with. My recollection is that Miriam's mother even says "they didn't have our reservation." So they went to the airport for nothing.
  9. But the agreement would be to actually *fix* the minor holes, not throw spackle on them and then not (1) let it dry, (2) sand it down, (3) paint to match wall. They just left these blobs of spackle on the walls. Also, when was the closing? Because it these were required fixes, then they would have to be done, the buyers do a final walk-through, and then if satisfactory, the closing. Everyone's harped sufficiently on the house issues/closing/where is every living (kudos to the catch re: Sophie and Tyrelle sleeping there without D and Danny!). But what about the wedding seating? Katherine and Greta had just sent out the invitations! How are they deciding seating before they know who is coming? There was some aunt they were surprised said yes, so clearly they weren't just assuming everyone would want to come to their very special day. I guess I'll give Theo a pass on his "plan" for Delilah to not be invited, since he wouldn't realize that K&G would be expecting a response back and probably would contact her when they hadn't heard. Or maybe, like us, he thought D would just go back to France.
  10. After my mother-in-law escaped my sister-in-law's house, the family decided to put her in memory care. She escaped that twice, once making it two miles down the road at 10:00 at night before some police driving by noticed her. Several employees were fired after that.
  11. Many families take the (Christmas) photo early, either so that they have it ready when time to send out, or because they do it when the kids are in town. Why didn't Sophie ride with her bandmates? Right -- Walter should be in memory care, which is locked down. Maybe jumping the list also allowed them to bend the rules. But that's stupid because Walter could wander and hurt himself.
  12. Charlotte and Colbourne's kiss at the same place and circumstances ("Oh hey, just happened to run into you walking along this path, with your hair flowing behind you") as Charlotte and Parker's kiss in Season One?? Come on, show. Agree on need more of a redemption from Edward. A confession and true remorse is needed.
  13. And what family? Rome has an apartment, and Omar lives in Florida. Neither has kids. That was a strange reason to rent rather than sell. And yeah, no way renting will cover the cost of assisted living -- it might cover the cost of an aide during Regina and Rome's working hours, though. Not sure what Regina's working hours are, though. Also, how many talk radio stations are there in Boston (or are they all on AM, that nobody listens to anymore)? And as someone else pointed out, likely they signed non-competes. Or should have. I suppose the writers would say that Colson's fear of that threat means that he forgot to have them sign non-competes.
  14. I think many men in Bath told her she was pretty, but she didn't like any of them. So I agree her infatuation with Edward makes no sense. Regarding the Duke, his sister and mother, I love the duke and sister rolling their eyes at mother and all the compliments that are really insults. However, the mother is right that they need to marry into some money post haste. I find it unrealistic that duke and sister don't understand this. They are not in a class to go out and find work if they run out of money. While we all love the Austen quote “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife,” it is true that women (of this class) depended on marrying well.
  15. I thought it was reminiscent a little too much. A too obvious copy. I have loved the other seasons, but yes, I'm sick of these two exchanging glances. Maybe moreso since, forgetting why they did not end up together last season, I searched the internet for a recap but instead got the showrunner saying "well, if Charlotte finds love, the show will be over." So I'm sitting there wondering whether this is the last season, so they will get together, or not, so Charlotte will again be "unlucky in love." Gets a bit annoying to be teased this way. When Colbourne turned down Edward's request, I called out "To Gretna Green!!" Austen's favorite trope.
  16. I’m convinced that the writers change every week with only a summary given them of the prior week’s episode. Because they don’t seem to know what all has been said before. Only we idiots watch every week …..
  17. Well, all we saw of the childbirth classes was them learning how to diaper a baby in cloth diapers -- something many parents don't even use anymore.
  18. Yes. When exactly did Katherine set that up, and then just leave it there?? Gary really bugged. Was not the way to write a nervous father-to-be. Was confused when the midwife said both that she baby was breathing fine, but she could just now start seeing its head. How could she know it was breathing fine if it was only then crowning? Everyone waiting out in the hallway was just nuts. And I understand prospective grandparents racing to the hospital to wait for a birth, but everyone else usually just says "let me know when it's born."
  19. Well, Maggie's doctor is sympathetic to home births.
  20. It always amazes me when families faced with a loved one with Alzheimer's fails to do simple internet searches to educate themselves a bit. Correcting the patient is a huge no-no. How would you feel if someone told you that your reality was wrong all-the-time? Yet I've seen well-meaning people think they're helping by correcting their loved one. Was so relieved that Rome got informed by the end. Yeah, and transporting a woman in the throes of child birth? Please. And getting that man a job rather than a bed for the night should have been the priority. It's kind of like the give a fish/teach to fish rule. If he has a job, he can get housing. Seems logical, but our characters/writers don't follow logic. I thought Carter's acting was poor in this episode. Disappointing since I generally enjoy his character.
  21. It annoyed me though, because "Run!!" Have the touching reunion hug occur in the van as they drive away. I've assumed Brenner inseminated various women with 1's semen to get the new children, which he took from the women. (From way back in the comments:) You don't need upper body strength to climb a rope, you need strength in your legs. I could climb the gym rope all the way to the ceiling in 5th grade. You wrap the rope around one leg and then push up on that with the other.
  22. I love the Gerald-Mrs. Hall relationship and will be very annoyed if they put her with Siegfried instead. Gerald is actually NICE. Siegfried is arrogant and controlling. Also, it's a weird, pat way to end things. I saw the original ACGS when I was a kid. My mother and I were great Masterpiece Theater fans. I remember loving it, and comments here about it being more animal-centric make sense to me. I don't remember enough to picture the characters though. Maybe when this series is enough of a memory I'll see if I can find the original.
  23. Future Brett Kavanaugh? I understood El was having flashbacks. When of the scenes in the water tank had her looking up at screens where videos of her prior time where showing.
  24. Exactly what I said at the time! This is bad, because she can't change it, but her pointy chin bothers me. (Wicked Witch of the West chin?) My only quibble was Eddie suggesting that Jon's depression was temporary, rather than chronic. But I guess it would have been scarier to Theo to say that because it could suggest that untreated depression always leads to suicide, which it doesn't. But to say it was temporary suggests that depressed people are only depressed about something, or that they can get over it somehow. Greta's trying to be a good parent/guardian of Theo that day and her impulse is to take a wild animal to the vet instead of explaining the facts of life to Theo? What did she think the vet could do? Stop the internal bleeding, a little sewing up of the organs? Come on! And a real veterinarian would have pulled the adults aside to say "yeah, we can't do anything here, you need to talk with your kid." Not "oh, we'll examine the bird...." The mantra of people dealing with Alzheimer's patients is to always agree with them. It was ridiculous that the aide would get in an argument with Walter. I too thought that it would end up some scheme to gain Walter's trust, but no. She needs to go to the Grand Canyon! Again, what I said at that moment in the show. He's worried about his mother getting to her office? That sent off alarm bells with me, and I'm not even a parent! I assume his acting like a 5 year old is something the writers want, not actually part of the plot, so I'll give the other characters a break on not being concerned by that (and continuing to treat him with kid gloves because of it). Also, those baby birds are so going to die. How does Greta think they're going to feed them? Alternatively, they're going to be squashed on the porch deck when they fall out of that nest before they learn to fly.
  25. That play/movie is based on Alexander Woollcott, a theater critic and member of the Algonquin Round Table. My favorite Woollcott quote is "His huff arrived and he departed in it."
