  1. Happy Harpy and Feverfew said it better than I could. ElizaD and Gertrude did make a great point that it would better if Jamie broke from Cersei based on his own self-awareness and moral evolution. However I also only read Dance once, and maybe it wasn't GRRM's intention, but what stuck with me was doubt placed in his mind by Tyrion that Cersei was unfaithful to him as well as recognizing as the "kingslayer" he won't measure up to other knights in history. Show!Jaimie hasn't seemed to have that much self-reflection since he and Brienne were prisoners.
  2. Don't know if anyone saw this, but apparently the showrunners have a number of engineering, entrepreneurs, and tech employee consultants for the show. One of them even went on Reddit to defend the episode when Russ Hanneman manages to delete most of the data that was being downloaded from the porn sight. Interesting read. http://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/how-silicon-valley-nails-silicon-valley
  3. This ^^. I have a feeling that this is what will finally break up Cersei and Jaime. That he risked his honor and reputation to stop the Mad King, and Cersei proceeds to try to blow up KL (possibly losing Tommen as well). If this is what the writers are planning, I think this is a much better character arc than him being disgusted by the fact she slept with Lancel (in the show) and the Kettleblacks (in the books).
  4. Nice summary MH319! I don't agree. To me, the face of evil is Frank and Sam. Frank who flat out strangled a pregnant girl, and Sam, who ordered it. Wes is angry, but only because he's been manipulated and lied to by Rebecca and Anna. Also, what solid evidence there is that's he's disturbed and dangerous? Technically, he's right that something is wrong about Rebecca and Anna is lying about it. Sam's death was in defense of the annoying goth girl. Letting Nate take the fall for it was only because Anna said she could fix it, plus the other K4 weren't that upset about it. I remember Michaela being relieved. Even Bonnie, who flat out suffocated Rebecca, has wrinkles of evil on her face, and she's starting to realize maybe people need protection from her, Anna and Frank. Of course, Frank has no morals and doesn't care. I think Wes is way down on the list, and yeah, he was going to shoot Anna again, but she goaded him on and he was out of his mind with at that point. At this point, all of the K5 have PTSD and need therapy.
  5. Much better episode - thought it was about time Gordon got it together, What I'm hoping gets revealed to the other two is that about half of the Giant's hardware design came from Donna. She hasn't gotten credit for anything yet.
  6. I agree the marketing seems very scattered. It seems like Joe is doing a "throw everything in it" scenario, with a "build it and they will come" outlook. If it's supposed to be half the cost of what PCs cost at that time, I'm guessing he's going for mass market. He's talking with retailers about shelf positions. But, did anyone in 1983 think that people other than first responders and government officials needed mobile communications? If someone asked a average Joe/Jane on the street in 1983 if they would be willing to pay/subsidize $200 - $700 for a cell phone, I think they would have looked sideways and edged away slowly. Sometimes companies go by the idea that the average consumer doesn't know what they need until it's shoved in front of them. If dad/mom brings home a portable computer and can work at home that's productivity. If the kids play with it, with the right software, it can be educational and go with them on vacation. Then kids go to college and take a new, faster version with them. One glaring issue though is that the internet is basically a fetus right now so any consumer benefits would be limited to shelf software. I'm playing devil's advocate and thinking way too much about a show that may not be back.
  7. HAH! That's great. Cameron is looking to put a "soulllll now" (TM Buffy) in the computer. The whole episode dealt with her getting some genuine human interaction with Joe. And I think she mentioned bonding with inanimate objects - naming stuffed animals, the girls naming their flashlights. She's not designing this for the computer programmer, she is designing this for the average person to make them want to use the computer. To draw them in and find that emotional link, that security in the storm. Joe realized it with the girls and the flashlights, which was part of the dramatics in the hurricane. The girls equated those named flashlights as yeah, lightsabers against the darkness. Yes you can type commands at the DOS prompt. But that's cold and impersonal. I remember Eliza, this isn't that far-fetched. This text-based psychological interface allegedly had a significant number of users going through her therapy sessions answering her open-ended questions. People name things. It's just human nature - boats, ships, cars, swords (Ice, Longclaw, Needle) Technically we assign names to home networking computers now to distinguish them in our household. Cameron's on the right track, it's just the timing is awful.
  8. Part of the problem is the character reminds me of Patrick Bateman and the actor resembles the lovechild of Christian Bale and John Cusack (and I didn't see American Psycho but I know enough about what goes on). So when he's standing in the room nude looking at things I keep expecting him to put up plastic. Or hold up a boom box playing Peter Gabriel. I'm conflicted. Yeah that part came out of no where, but apparently he picked up on the guy's gaydar. He knew this tightly controlled, rent-a-friend debutante with money to burn was all about respectability and keeping up appearances. So he undercut her by sleeping with her husband, (whether Joe is gay or bi-sexual or whatever didn't matter) and eye-threatened her. The poster up above was right, there was double entendre with "trying a different port". If the rest of Dallas society ever found out her reputation was shot. So she tanked the deal because she realized she can't control Joe, which is what Joe wanted. The above posters could be right. He may sleep with anyone to get what he wants.
  9. I can't believe they just did a literal calculation of a dick measuring contest, complete with whiteboard and D2F (dick/floor ratio). Bravo!
  10. Damn, I'll miss you Oberyn. Wonder if we'll still have The Creature-Mountain from Dr. Franken-Maester. Sansa is growing with power.
  11. Cap'n Ron. When the entire family realizes they're in Cuba. And the part where Martin Short dismisses Kurt Russell's claim that there are gorillas/guerillas in the woods. But I really like the end when the boat is beautifully completed, everyone is relaxed and happy, and they want to continue the adventure because Martin's character has grown as a father. Oh and of course a reference to Pirates of the Caribbean!
  12. I'm having a brain-lock moment: to whom are you referring? I initially thought "Ygritte" because of her "kissed by fire" schtick, but your description matches Mellisandre better. So if she's the counterpart of the Night King's wife, then Stannis is the counterpart of the Night King? Interesting. Okay, I'm really off. Because I thought the OP was referring to Lady Stoneheart (Catelyn).
  13. Actually my money's on Shireen. She can smell the bullshit burning a mile away.
  14. They're pretty close - see the post down at 2:43pm today. I was trying not to mention the poster's name in case somehow it would link to this thread (paranoia!) http://forums.previously.tv/topic/4533-s04e02-the-lion-and-the-rose/page-2
