  1. I don't mind hearing the producer's questions. The alternative to letting us hear the question is to force Dr. Lee to repeat herself without reference to it, so that the information can stand alone, as though she said it spontaneously. That can seem fake/forced, too. I often have questions for Dr. Lee, and the producer can stand in for me. I'd love to learn more about the science/medicine rather than the canned conversations between the patient and spouse about how they don't want to wear the blouse that reveals the rash. (Like the rest of you, I'm FFing those at this point.) I feel like the producer questions are more conducive to sharing medical info. I acknowledge, though, that I'm a science nerd, and most of the audience for this show probably doesn't want it to move in a PBS direction.
  2. Well, I'll be. I've been watching too much My 600-Lb. Life, because when I saw the extreme chub rub this week, I thought weight loss was the only answer. Good for that patient for losing so much weight and for continuing to seek further help for the rash.
  3. Right, he was in his early 30s when they met at Hooters. He might have come up in the world since then, I guess. Some people don't really start putting effort into their careers until they have dependents relying on them. But the odds are good that he didn't turn around and start making six figures.
  4. And the something isn't her kids. His friend said Nicola was unemployed (and seemed to think he was a loser across the board), so, yeah. The weird part to me is that Nicola hasn't joined a monastery. The bar to become a priest is high, but orders of brothers are dying out and need warm bodies. Maybe he didn't want to leave his mom, or maybe he's so nutty that even people whose job it is to contemplate God all day think he's trouble. Could someone tell what language he was speaking with his mom? Hebrew or Arabic or what? Catholic isn't an ethnicity, and this would be a clue about his heritage. Tyray. I just...listen to your sister. She is a real person who knows you in real life and loves you for real. I hope the producers get Tyray to share some of those hundreds of Snapchats that supposedly built a bond between two souls. I'm guessing it's just a lot of "luv u babe" and "me 2." Tyray would fall in love with Chat GPT if it showed him the right booty pics.
  5. Tyray: You all are a lot kinder than I am. Yes, he seems very sweet to his mother. Anyone that invested in their delusion, though, deserves the natural consequences. He spent his last dollar to fly to Barbados to meet someone he'd never spoken to on the phone. Apparently this fantasy is worth that much to him. We're going to see him at the reunion talking about how he still has hope because maybe Carmella's phone was hacked. If he thinks the product he's getting is worth the price he pays, who am I to correct him? The blown-out non-house in Cebu is a painful reminder that minimum-wage, trailer park American poverty would be a huge step up for a lot of people in the world. Jesus. I hope the relationship works out for that reason alone. Jasmine and Gino: fast-forward. They don't even try to make it believable.
  6. No defense of his crappy beliefs/statements, but their spousal dynamic looked really good in the doc. He came across as (rightly) protective and respectful of his wife. She came across as trusting him deeply. They seemed like a team. I felt like I recognized that vibe from my own marriage, in a good way. To put it mildly, that is NOT how I feel watching JB/M or Inmate/Anna.
  7. I screamed at the TV: "HOW'S THAT WORKING FOR YA?" (tm Jeff van Vonderen from Intervention). I love my mother, but I wouldn't change her stinking crusty leg dressings, either, especially if she was prescribed medicine and refused to take it. Some tasks call for a professional. I didn't believe it either! Not because lead can't get stuck in your skin, but because the lump on her hand seemed too big and jellylike for a pencil lead. I was surprised that Dr. Lee went anywhere near a hand surgery -- it seemed like that's an incredibly complex and delicate area with a ton of potential for injury if you're not a hand expert -- but she said it was superficial enough, and clearly she was right. I appreciated her featuring the fact that she was wrong and the patient was right all along. Once in a great while...
  8. Well, you called that one right.
  9. Nice prediction, @BlackberryJam! You only understated the humiliation a bit. We never saw Kendall's rap becoming a viral meme like Roman's tears.
  10. It's strongly suggested that the marriage to Connor's mom was much shorter than the marriage to Caroline. Also, we have been given to think that Connor has never had any interest in the family business, just his ranch in Santa Fe, the Federalist Papers, etc. Logan wants an heir apparent who's desperate for the job. Someone like Connor with his head in the clouds (or in some old books) can't be that guy. He doesn't care enough.
  11. I'm loving the redemption of Tricia. She's showing us some wonderful spirit she shares with Sam, from directly confronting their mother in the car to embracing the "Live Laugh C***" pillow. That whole theme is such a glorious send-up of the basic-white-femininity cult that the Tricia/Charity boutique was selling in the before times. Tricia needed more Sam in her, and maybe Sam needs some Tricia (letting people be close to her) if she could admit it.
  12. I never gave Tammy the credit that she would ever get to this point. I hope she keeps going. It won't cure her personality disorder, but even my cold and shriveled heart likes to see a person save her own life.
  13. Because it's lonely and scary to be sick alone, and secondarily because you wonder if the other person has food poisoning, too. That's how I interpreted Sam's reaction, as well as feeling hurt that Fred had kept this from them for such a long time -- and then insulted their intelligence by saying "Oh, I've talked about her, haven't I?" Sam is envious, doesn't want to share Fred, and feels like the band of misfits is compromised if some become happily married people.
  14. I thought Tricia was reacting to Charity starting up her own business and putting her smug grin all over town, and the house had nothing to do with it.
  15. The vast majority of newly constructed homes, which are a minority of the houses for sale almost everywhere. I'm not quite as anti-HOA as this episode. I don't doubt that the cases of abuse are real. But there are also a bajillion HOAs mostly facilitating sharing among neighbors, like getting a better price on cable or on landscaping because the whole complex is buying together. I live in a high-rise that has full-time security and maintenance staff, which I could never afford as an individual household. I am planning to buy a home in a drought-stricken region, and I am looking only at units with HOAs, because they make it possible for groups of homes to share a swimming pool instead of each household wasting tons of water on a single-family pool that won't get much use. Unless I missed it, John didn't mention any of these upsides except the theoretical benefit of keeping property values up. So yeah. Abusive HOAs are really bad. HOAs is general are not necessarily bad.
  16. The picture may well be filtered, but weight loss in the face can impact squinty eyes. It's possible that part of the reason Tammy's eyes appear so squeezed is that her cheek fat is smooshing upward. It seems pretty self-defeating to divorce because you disagree about filming the kids. Chances are, the parent that wants to film them is going to be allowed to do that on their own, so they'll still have all the problems that come with reality fame. I guess you might feel that older kids would benefit from having a home where they get a break from being filmed, but they're babies, and Amy's kids are not going to have anonymity whether their parents are together or not.
  17. My Firestick wisely suggested this, so of course I binged it over the next three days. So addictive! It looks like Calum and Marvin got married: https://www.instagram.com/calum90dayfianceuk/ And Victoria is in Kyoto with Sean as of 3/24/23: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2225196904366402/user/524586702/ I cannot with Emma and her lack of self-awareness. Pat isn't harming anyone; she doesn't have kids at home, and she wants to spend money on her silly fantasy, so whatever. Emma DOES have kids, and she's humiliating them. Leaving aside that she's homely and out of shape and looks 10+ years older than 44...you can still show off what you've got to its best effect, and she can't be bothered. I put more effort into my appearance before I lead a committee meeting on Zoom than she did for her WEDDING. And then she's needling Hossein to say she looks pretty. The Talmud proclaims that all brides are beautiful, allowing guests to say so without lying; maybe there's some equivalent rule in Muslim tradition.
  18. I'm on the bus to hell...Caleb was all upset about having the wrong pants, and I was just thinking, "Dude...Giorgio Armani himself couldn't make you look decent." Just what transformative magic could a pair of pants work on a person? Nothing's going to hide the trach and the giant belly apron.
  19. I'm pretty irritated that they closed the season out with this snoozer of an episode. Haley was the only person I could root for at all. Yeah, I was like, is that opioids or benzos? She was on the edge of nodding out the whole time. Sadly, Patrick may have been diagnosed with cancer last month if we trust these sources: https://tvshowsace.com/2023/03/22/patrick-macon-devastating-diagnosis-600lb-life/ https://www.facebook.com/amanda.wright.507
  20. Maybe I'm not typical, but I love the success episodes! This was a hell of a story of healing. I would have liked to see more of Dr. Paradise, since he's always so insightful, and there were obviously many layers of history to unpeel with this crew. It's also a testament to the power of teamwork. It is NOT easy to get weight off when you're a woman Laura's age, and we have to figure she put her body through a lot during her drug addictions. Get everyone on board with the healthy meals and frequent walks, make it fun, maybe even make it competitive. They made the lifestyle into a bonding exercise. I know there's always plenty that we don't see, but this sure looked like as good a recovery as you could possibly hope for in a family that's been through this much.
  21. The hot chocolate packet we saw in the last episode sure looked like original recipe, NOT sugar-free. My issue with Caleb and Tammy has nothing to do with their physical disabilities and everything to do with everything else (all at once). If they were quadriplegics and we knew they would never get out of their chairs or breathe on their own, they could still be married. If, God forbid, that happened to me and my husband, I wouldn't consider our marriage over because we can no longer touch. But damn, they don't know each other and they're addicts in an early stage of recovery and Tammy is easily manipulated, famous, and has an income...this is all bad, bad news. In other news, how in the world did Amy and Michael produce those gorgeous babies? They get cuter every day!!
  22. I wanted to smack Tammy when she was talking about her family showing her respect. I have to remind myself: this is a person with a personality disorder. She doesn't get it, and she probably can't get it. All her family can do is disconnect when she pulls this BS. To their credit, it seems like that's what they did. Obviously. He knows a gravy train when he sees one. He didn't even have to put any effort into the wooing process. Tell her she's cute, propose, and that's all it took. One episode in, and strangers who don't breathe through their necks are discussing him online! He wins! But what kind of bariatric rehab was serving them cornbread?! That's not even on MY diet!
  23. I'll be darned -- I like Debbie AND Oussama. They're both out of their minds to think a marriage makes sense, but they seem sweet and largely harmless, other than to themselves. I even like Oussama's art. That said, a modern Moroccan city is one thing -- a tiny Berber farming village in Morocco is quite something else. Berbers are basically an indigenous minority group in Morocco. They wouldn't even necessarily speak Arabic as a first language. And unless Oussama's dad has a day job and just has the farm to honor tradition, they are POOR. Three cows and 13 chickens is a subsistence farm, not a commercial farm.
  24. Losing it =/= keeping it off. Maybe somebody somewhere has cured their cancer with willpower, but that wouldn't change what a horse's ass Mark is, or how much I hope that Dr. Now puts his resources elsewhere. Enabler mom deserves what she gets, too.
  25. She sure is, which makes me nervous. A straight guy is a straight guy, trans or no. Moms with gorgeous teenage girls in the house need to be extra skeptical.
