I actually have something positive to say: Dakwon is super handsome. If I were his age, I'd be giving my birth control a workout, too -- AFTER A FULL MONTH of taking it correctly. Parents of teens, LARCs are the way to go! I was gonna say the money for Kayleigh's car should have gone in someone's college fund, but let's not get crazy! No one in these families is going to college.

The men's definition makes sense once you get that they really mean "insubordination." The women are viewing the two partners as equals. The men are viewing themselves as authority figures. You don't argue back to your grandpa/boss/drill sergeant; you obey, or else you're showing disrespect. Of course, I have zero interest in dating a man who thinks he's my grandpa/boss/drill sergeant. I also have zero interest in forming lifelong families with people before I know if we share fundamental values. But the pickings are obviously slim for these girls.

All of this is right, and the mentality is much older than that. Here in the US during the depression, the food that came in relief boxes was designed to be bland and monotonous to ensure that no one would take a relief box unless they were desperate. They deliberately did not include things like mustard and vinegar lest someone enjoy eating that food. I can buy that she DID tell Ava, but Ava was totally self-absorbed and not paying real attention to things that are important to Ruby. We saw how much she cares about Ruby’s point of view when she kept bugging Ruby during her workout (aka a crucial part of her job as an action hero). Also when Ava couldn’t let Ruby enjoy any afterglow in the shower and kept insisting on changing the subject to what SHE (Ava) wanted to talk about. Ava is a terrible partner to Ruby. Why would Ava notice or remember the ring backstory when it has nothing to do with Ava and her needs? This may be the reason the writers introduced Ruby in a scene where Ava is literally in her own world and blind and deaf to Ruby until Ruby literally screams to get her attention. That’s what their whole relationship is like, outside of the hot sex.

I had to go Google the actor immediately and was disappointed to learn that Deidre Hall is not actually his mother. It would be an amazing Easter egg if she were!

They literally didn't do anything right. They weren't on pitch; they weren't on rhythm; they didn't have the words right; they weren't putting on an entertaining show. I guess they were wearing the costumes as directed. There was clearly a mercy rule invoked, or they'd still be on that stage. Vinny showed himself to be a full-on abuser this episode. He was messing with Amber's head with that garbage about how she wasn't prioritizing the team. It is not entertaining to me to watch that. I'm clearly in the minority, but I don't understand how you can grow up in the U.S. and be unable to sound out a Spanish word like "mercado." Leticia (?) said something like "mercedes." Didn't any of these people watch Sesame Street?
