I don't recall how I found out there was a Parthenon in Nashville, but on a family vacation in the late 60s, my parents and I went there. This was way before the giant statue was erected. They had a smaller, gilded statue on a pedestal that was taller than the statue itself. Pre-internet, how did we ever find out about places to see when we went to other cities?

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
Prevailing Wind replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
From mythopedia.com: Centaurs were originally all male. Female Centaurs, or “Centaurides,” were probably introduced no earlier than the fifth century BCE, and even then, they were regarded as novelties.[12] Female Centaurs did sometimes appear in later art and literature: Ovid, for instance, tells of a female Centaur named Hylonome, whom he may or may not have invented.[13] -

A female Centaur makes no sense any way you look at it. Dove has had "+MenCare" for quite a few years - My SIL turned me on to the soap. (The green one, not the orange) It's got such a lovely scent. I now use their (pit) deodorant, too. I wouldn't doubt they'll soon have a full-body version. -

I said Rogers Brothers solely because they made my Nana's silverplate cutlery. ETA: I used the archive for yesterday's game. I am gobsmacked that I got Toshiro Mifune.

I did listen further - Jonathan later says you can keep the insurance as long as you want to, so, I suppose, once you turn 86, they figure you're not gonna throw away all the money you sunk into it and will keep on paying nine ninety five. -

If you get Colonial Penn and then turn 86, are you no longer covered? Jonathan talks about being 50-85 to get their insurance. -
Two for me, one of which I know nothing about the category. If I had been a Friday contestant, I would have bet 0 on comic book characters, yet, whoo-hooo, I got it. I also got CT, which was an asterisk.

And Hayley Mills' brother in law in the 1966 film, "The Family Way." I thought he was adorable and she probably married the wrong brother.

I have a long-time friend who would've gotten the Bangkok song in a heartbeat. There was a time in her life she was obsessed with the original cast album of "Chess" - where the song is from. She played the CD incessantly. Unfortunately, she was campaign manager for a city commissioner seat and I was a volunteer on the campaign. ALL the campaign workers were subjected to Wendy's obsession. LOL.

My late mom liked him. He did an Excedrin commercial where he referred to a really bad headache as a "bangeroo." So when Mom couldn't remember his name, she just called him Bangeroo, which we did until the end of his life.

I love how the sidebar shows "popular images" and it's all the food we're bringing to the virtual party.

Obviously, a Fuzzy Navel. LOL Thank you for Jules Verne - I got ONE this week. Corn Dogs for all... (I used to work with a woman who gossiped a lot. Talking about one of our co-workers, Linda said, "She thinks she's shit on a stick." I asked her if that was anything like a corn dog.)

I felt the same way, but decided the info was important enough to share. -
Y'know, I started reading this article and just couldn't go on...even reading about the tournaments makes me weary.

But some people are just fanatics about it. My SIL vacuums & mops the kitchen and all around the island after just about every meal. She can't sit still, so this gives her something to do. Besides, her cats are sloppy eaters. LOL -

There was that Leverage episode where the copier was "broken" because the HR woman said it was. It wasn't; she had just loaded it up with special colored ink and counterfeiting paper. She was printing money on the sly. -
Didn't think of NSA. Thought "spies"... Commie Spies! and said HUAC.

One - the Wardrobe on Monday and it was downhill from there. Shapeshifter, I love your 4 zeros on the cake. I want some. I live in Metro Atlanta and I felt that Virginia quake in 2011. It just a small lurch in the pit of my stomach and I sort of felt dizzy. I think that if I had been doing something, I would not have noticed, but I had just sat down to lunch and was sitting there, willing the food not to be SO freakin' hot so I could start to eat. LOL

Death In Paradise - General Discussion

Well, that was disappointing, except for the fact that no one killed Neville. I just don't care for Florence as a love interest.
