I've always like Joy Reid, but I'd have more respect for her if she had brought up her own past embarrassing postings (which she tried to deny, similar to Northam) in relation to the Ralph Northam affair. Since we have a plethora of right-wing media to pile on Northam, Democrats don't really need to (I'm reminded of the Al Franken incident with Democrats competing to be the most outraged). https://www.politico.com/story/2018/04/28/joy-reid-apology-lgbt-blog-posts-559178

77 Sunset Strip - General Discussion

Interesting. I didn't catch that! Thanks. -
I wish BUZZR would show more "What's My Line" and "I've Got A Secret." Here's Bennett Cerf honoring librarians (starts at 2:07). Where would a prime time show today even mention librarians? You don't get this sort of wit and intelligence on TV anymore.

Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads

I've come to the conclusion that the McConaughey Lincoln ads are about his descent into madness-he talks to himself or to dogs rather than real people, he has notebooks full of his insane ramblings and odd clippings, and he tries to drown himself in between driving around aimlessly. -
I haven't been watching much "Masterpiece" lately, but I'm really looking forward to the upcoming "Les Miserables" series. It's gotten good reviews in the UK.

The funny thing is that, unlike perfume ads (which I contend these car ads are mimicking), there's things about cars you can actually advertise-reliability, safety, comfort, gas mileage, etc. Instead they seem to selling some vague hipster lifestyle (in the McConaughey ads, the lifestyle seems one of introspective depression). -

All TV comedy from SNL to Monty Python was influenced by Ernie Kovacs. Unfortunately he's not as well-known today as he should be. (BTW, I'd also like to see episodes of "The Spike Jones Show.") -
They used to run "QI" but I haven't seen that for a few years. I guess they are too busy running those notable British "Star Trek" shows. :)

This is an example of how other products are now copying perfume ads- basically beautiful people doing incomprehensible things for the length of the ad. See also the Volvo ad with the goofy Euro-trash voice-over about how this is the best time of your life (because you are driving a Volvo). -

All good shows. I don't think any of the other channels, ME-TV, Cozi, Decades, showed "Danger Man" (AKA, "Secret Agent"). Which also leads me to wish someone would show "The Prisoner'. -
Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

He had many ties to the Soviet Union and I always wondered if the "Arm and Hammer" thing was sort of Soviet symbolism. https://www.123rf.com/photo_53257665_stock-vector-hammer-and-sickle-vector-illustration-in-the-style-of-russian-constructivist-propaganda-posters-.html -

There was a famous millionaire named Armand Hammer. Oddly he owned a big piece of the company that owned "Arm and Hammer." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armand_Hammer -

They could be funny, but their concept of what it's like turning into one's father is rather lame (or at least it is if I turned into my father). -

I enjoyed watching the old Dick Cavett shows, but it bugged me that the musical numbers were always cut (plus they had such a limited number of them). I wish at least one late night talk show could be as intelligent and witty as the Dick Cavett show was. I was hoping Colbert would model himself after Cavett , but I guess there's no market for it,
