  1. I couldn't stand Costner's depressed Robin Hood. But the Costner plays almost every character as if they need a dose of Prozac. I think he thinks that's real acting. (He can play non-depressed as evidenced by "Silverado"). I'd go with "Die Hard" and get a watchable movie with the added bonus of a great Alan Rickman performance. We don't need another "dark" Robin Hood movie.
  2. My backup plan was to buy the Toyota FJ Cruiser, but Toyota eliminated that for the same reason. Now I have a Toyota Rav4, which gets good gas mileage, but I miss the tall stance of the Xterra, which I called the cheapest, tallest SUV. (When I bought the Mustang, Ford just introduced the Expedition. I should have been wary when the top of Mustang's roof didn't reach the bottom of the windows of the Expedition.) The Xterra was great in snow storms and also saved me a few times driving through flooded streets. But at least its...Free!
  3. CAFE standards are govt fuel efficiency standards that require auto makers to increase the overall fuel efficiency of their fleets overtime. As the standards became tighter the car makers eliminated lower selling SUV models (and some sedans) in order to continue making pickups, which are their bread and butter, thus raising their fuel efficiency average for the whole fleet. "Edmunds reports the Xterra is leaving these shores for regulatory reasons, with Nissan finding no business case in bringing the SUV up to code for an audience that also adores the Jeep Wrangler. Updating the Xterra to meet regulatory and environmental requirements was deemed too costly for such a low volume product. CAFE regulations also don’t favor the Xterra’s small, body-on-frame SUV layout, making the updates a tougher sell." https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2015/02/nissan-xterra-leaving-us-market-2015-model-year/
  4. I had a 90's Mustang and couldn't ever see around anybody, coming or going. I later traded it in for an Xterra, which I really liked. Unfortunately, due to the "CAFE standards", Nissan no longer makes it.
  5. Cute kids in ads don't bother me. In fact, for kids in commercials, all they need to do is to be cute (but not cloyingly so) and be able to read the lines so you can understand what they are saying (a problem a lot of real kids would have). I don't hold them responsible for the content of the ads, as they have no more to say about the content than dogs and cats in ads have (in fact, all dogs and cats need to do is be cute, too).
  6. I noticed that the FE (Family Entertainment) has dropped "The Bob Newhart Show" in the mornings for more "Roy Rogers." WTF? I don't get COZI anymore, but the schedule has way too much "newer" material. I'd still like to see some of the really retro shows. Where's "You Bet Your Life"?
  7. Retro shows for the win! "As much as everyone talks about Peak TV and how much original scripted TV is currently being produced, an increasing number of viewers are instead gravitating toward the old stuff. Me TV, in particular, is continuing to grow as its roster of over-the-air stations gets stronger. The network has leaped over TV Land and is within striking distance of Nick at Nite — two networks that pioneered the “classic TV” format before focusing on more contemporary fare." https://www.indiewire.com/2018/12/network-ratings-top-channels-espn-cnn-fox-news-cbs-nbc-abc-1202030597/

  9. One of the jobs of kids is to roll their eyes at their parents. If they didn't, they'd be in their thirties and still living at home. It's early training for "Get the hell out of our house!"
  10. It ties in my mind with the new Robin Hood movie. If you want to see Robin Hood watch the Errol Flynn movie. Every other one sucks (well, I do sort of like "Robin and Marion").
  11. The "giant-sized" Cook Island buffalo nickel made of .999 gold actually contains 0.007 of an ounce of gold (unlike the previous "gold-clad" version which probably has even less gold). It explains why they never show the coin from the side and mention the revolutionary stamping process (to make a "coin" that thin). I assume if they showed it from the side, you wouldn't be able to see it.
  12. Mistletoe-liena is an irrational fear of encountering someone bending over underneath some mistletoe.
  13. Our small business software now cures moderate to severe overactive bladder and detects colon cancer. All for one low, low price.
  14. I watched it on IFC, and they dealt with this, giving all the reasons it should be considered a Christmas movie, including one I hadn't thought of, that McClane's wife is named Holly. Besides that, the movie holds up. It still works. https://www.joe.ie/movies-tv/10-reasons-why-die-hard-is-the-greatest-christmas-film-of-all-time-479242

  16. I like the Faces song "Oh La La" but I wonder if the girl ever listened to the misogynistic lyrics: They'll trap you, then they use you Before you even know For love is blind and you're far too kind Don't ever let it show... They come on strong and it ain't too long Before they make you feel a man But love is blind and you soon will find You're just a boy again... When you want her lips, you get a cheek Makes you wonder where you are If you want some more and she's fast asleep Then she's twinkling with the stars...
  17. Thank God it wasn't a pink bunny onesie! Over the long weekend I watched 4 of my favorite Christmas classics, Alastair Sim's "A Christmas Carol" (AKA, "Scrooge"), "Scrooged", "A Christmas Story" and "Die Hard."
  18. I haven't seen "Scrooged" yet this season (my annual Christmas guilty pleasure). I missed one showing and haven't seen it again. But I'll be watching "Kelly Ripa Got Run Over by a Reindeer" in my dreams.
  19. I hope everyone has a very snarky Christmas.
  20. "Edible Arraignments" gives Sophie fresh fruit to eat while in prison, how nice of them!
  21. I noticed they showed the last episode of TMTMS today (Thurs.) and will start with episode one tomorrow (Fri., Dec. 21)- for people who like watching shows in order from the beginning.
  22. "It's a man, baby!" She doesn't even look like Marlo Thomas anymore. I can't believe she aged so badly that she had to do that to herself.
