I couldn't agree more. Both Shae and Sarah are caricatures of stereotypical sexist cartoon "villianesses" and together they're OTT. All Shae needs is a coat made of puppies. I don't think the rest of the show is all that realistic either but this is particularly hard for me to take on a few levels. I think the show should dial them both back. They flirted with this when we finally saw a more human side of Sarah, which the actress handled very well, but then they went back to portraying her as a cartoon villain, only this time on steroids. Ugh.

S01.E10: A House Divided
Yeah No replied to chitowngirl's topic in Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage
I saw photos of that one online and was surprised it was still open. So sad. On that same report they also featured one in Miami that's still open, but I think it might be the last one and it's shrunk down to a small size. ☹️ We shopped at the local KMart here in my area until its final week. I think that was a few years ago now during the pandemic because I remember we were wearing masks. The next store I worry about is JCPenney. They keep closing stores, but thankfully not in CT - yet, anyway. At this rate we won't have anywhere to shop anymore except Walmart and Target. We don't have the amount of stores the NY area does so when they close it's a big deal. -
Yeah, I think the sheep were an attempt to throw us off, as was the CGI mountain in the background in one shot. But it still didn't fool us, LOL.

I don't assume that all Trump supporters lack integrity, I just don't understand how they can support a president who DOES. He has more than proven his lack of integrity in his personal, business and political life. Examples abound everywhere, from screwing over people in his personal and business dealings to harboring vendettas against enemies and screwing over (or vowing to screw over) politicians, entire countries, populations and even former employees. Those things are undeniable based on what has come out of his mouth many, many times over (and yes, I have been paying attention to what he says). He is all about putting his "enemies" down, squashing them and confirming grievances by fanning the flames of hatred for anyone and anything he doesn't like. There is no "spin" that can be put on his words to make them anything else. Trump is not a "nice" or "decent" person that is ultimately interested in helping anyone but himself. If he can convince some "suckers" to think he's going to help THEM because they're SPECIAL, well I think they're living in a delusion. Because it doesn't work that way with a person like Trump. Ultimately he will use you and leave you for dead if it suits him. Understanding people and their motivations is my wheelhouse. But don't take my word for it and see where it gets you. In the end you won't get anything he promised you and you will end up much worse off. Don't say you weren't warned. And integrity counts in leadership. Thinking a lack of integrity and compromised values don't compromise Trump's ability to make sound decisions for the country is short sighted. I didn't spend years of effort and study in Psychology not to know that there's a very real connection there. It goes without saying. Look at any website on how much character figures into good leadership. It matters a LOT. And there is no magical separation between what a person will do in their personal life and what they will do in their professional or political life either. For sure, all politicians are flawed as are all humans, but the degree that Trump is flawed in just about every way when it comes to character is on a new level from just about any politician I've seen on the national scale in my lifetime. And it's downright scary. And even scarier is how his followers refuse to see it! I was trained not to delude myself on stuff like this. I can be fooled for a few minutes but quickly wake up and realize the real story. And the real story here is frightening. I don't even care if Republicans find another candidate to get behind, as long as it's not another MAGA extremist. If they could rewind themselves to support someone like John McCain I'd be happy. I don't care about "reforming" them and their political beliefs. There will always be people who disagree with me on politics and I accept that. They just need to wake up and see that they're supporting a depraved, psychologically compromised monster in Trump. Find someone else that doesn't embody the morally repugnant values of Trump. I used to tell my husband to "find a new candidate to support". I knew I wouldn't get anywhere telling him not to be a Republican. It wasn't even about that, although in time he stopped considering himself one. It was about Trump himself. But Republicans think we all hate them for being Republicans. Hate is a strong word. I never hated Republicans. I know they've been brainwashed into hating liberals but most liberals that I know of never hated them in return, at least not to the same degree. And not before Trump, anyway. It's about Trump. He is the divisive figure more than anything else. Psychologists are overwhelmingly anti-Trump. It's not because they're all "brainwashed liberals" or whatever the right thinks they are. It's because they understand how character and character disorders (which in Trump are easy to spot even without a degree) factor into leadership ability and negatively affect making sound decisions, especially those that affect other people. Forget about politics, even on that alone I wouldn't want Trump running my ice cream stand let alone my country!

Yeah, me too. That didn't get past this New Yorker.

I guess I think they should go out on a date first before kissing, but whatever. 😉

Ah, OK, thanks for the clarification.

I like that theory.

Kitchen Nightmares (US) - General Discussion
Yeah No replied to Kromm's topic in Kitchen Nightmares (US)
Shock, surprise (not) that Kings Blu sold. This seemed like yet another restaurant that was beyond saving before Gordon even walked through the door. This show has really gone downhill. He's going to more and more dive-y places every week, barely deserving of the name "restaurant", and probably more suited to be on "Diners, Drive ins and Dives" than on this show. He's not dealing with chefs anymore, just people barely deserving the title of "cook". And it has become more than obvious that he's going to places that are too broken to fix. There's absolutely zero enjoyment in watching this anymore. It's really getting that bad. -
Where do we disagree? I'm confused by your response. I didn't think they were ready to kiss but just said, "whatever, show" 🙄 because it was Valentine's day. I thought the flirting was OK, though, for two people that just met. How exactly do you disagree with that?

Yes, and I have thought that he is in a strange way trying to "impress" Putin with his "power" by threatening to take Greenland by force or making Canada a state. Like he wants Putin to think he's like him and can just annex and take over whatever country or territory he wants, "by force if necessary" - Trump's words. Yes, this is a lot like me although I don't think I would have ever said I was "pretty far left". I thought of myself as fairly liberal. Now I feel like more of a middle of the road Democrat (as opposed to middle of the road in general politically, which is actually a little further to the right of that and what is now considered "Independent"). One of my best friends is an old fashioned trust fund liberal who made big sacrifices to give back to his community. And he got screwed out of a lot of his inheritance by an evil sibling and now is afraid he doesn't have enough money to retire. Of course, nice guys finish last...😢 Our president isn't supposed to have the "power" Trump thinks he has. He is taking power that isn't due him to make changes that should involve an act of Congress and more. And lawsuits are being filed but he's doing it anyway thumbing his nose at Democrats and government as if to say, "Try and stop me". Most presidents don't fly in the face of these laws and rules (at least not as dramatically and to such an extent) so there aren't quick and effective ways to stop him. Unless the Republicans grow a spine and put pressure on him to stop and roll some of this crap back. But we all know they've sold their souls to him and would rather go down with the ship and take us all with them than do the right thing. Especially us older people. And we tend to vote more than the young'ns. And they know that.

No, absolutely NO ONE!!!

Yes, I agree. This just made me think of one of my favorite Python sketches 😄:

Thanks, I didn't realize I was old enough to have been to Canada before the maple leaf flag. I was very young (7) when it started to be used, though. This is the kind of thing that blows my mind now and makes me feel quite old, like recently realizing that I was born when the U.S. only had 48 states. OK, it had 50 a year later but still...
-
So true. We have to keep reminding ourselves that Trump only won the popular vote by 2,284,371 votes, which is less than Hillary's popular vote win in 2016, (which was around 2.9 million). And who knows how many now regret their votes? We aren't getting an accurate reading on how people feel now. I don't even know if that's possible.
-
Thanks, that's interesting. My Dad was a big fan of all kinds of music and had an extensive record collection at home which I listened to as a kid. I still have many of his albums of the big stars from the 50s and 60s in all genres but sadly not her.

Other than Nancy Wilson from Heart I didn't know anyone else with that name nor do I remember the song even though I was 6 years old when it came out. And I remember a lot from that era. I guess it somehow missed me. Great song, too!

I think this is a guy that's getting off on imagining all the fear and confusion he's instilling in his targets. He doesn't need to see it up close. To what end, though? What's his beef with Morgan, etc.? I still think he might be working for (or IS) the criminal entity Roman is in hiding investigating with the FBI and he may have been assigned to keeping an eye on Oz, etc. He may be giving them disorienting obstacles to grapple with that will focus them elsewhere, hence the pranks. He knows that it will grab Morgan's attention and sidetrack her. I don't think it's any accident that he suddenly started acting up after they were getting close to finding out about Roman being alive and working for the FBI. I know that's not a popular opinion but it's the only way I can make this make any sense at all right now. Without it the game guy plot is just, forgive me, but stupid. I don't normally watch shows with "big bads" in them so I'm not seeing this through any particular lens. I didn't even know that term until this week. Of course they could find other ways to save this that have nothing to do with Roman, but I can't think of any right now. If they do that, fine, but right now it just looks stupid.

Yeah, and putting an anti-vaxxer in charge of the Dept. of Health and Human Services can cause far more harm to the public than Jenny McCarthy spewing about it online. She doesn't have control over public policy on vaccines.

Thanks for explaining that - somehow that wasn't clear to me. The way she was gushing about it made me think it was for them to live in. I was confused. I don't know if the show explained that enough for people like me that don't always follow details like this. I did wonder because I thought we already saw them buy a place for themselves - or am I mistaken about that too? Because I just can't keep up with these people and their constant house buying, etc. Thanks for the compliment - same here back at you! The thing is I don't know if I'd ever seen Christine not wearing makeup before this. If a man wore makeup all the time and then I suddenly saw him without it I would probably say the same thing if I felt it. I just thought she looked kind of washed out and I do know that that is one reason people, even men, usually wear some makeup on TV. The camera and the lighting washes people out a lot and makes them look much paler than in person. Even if it's just some powder and blush or bronzer a little can go a long way. The "no makeup look" is often done for TV just to counteract that washed-out effect. Some of the people we see on TV we don't think of as wearing makeup, but many of them are. Just not eye makeup or much other than powder. But I don't think Christine was even wearing that. And she normally wears makeup on TV, probably to avoid that washed-out look. So she obviously doesn't prefer to look that way on TV either. Maybe there wasn't enough time this time for her to put any on for the camera, who knows? I've read that one of the reasons men don't normally wear makeup is because their facial skin is thicker and so they already have the benefit of that. I'd have to agree with that to some degree depending on the person. It's certainly not about anything sexist that I commented on Christine's lack of makeup, though. It's purely an esthetic thing. Also we are much more used to seeing men without makeup. If Christine never wore it I probably wouldn't have noticed any contrast in her appearance for better or worse and wouldn't have said anything.

S01.E10: A House Divided
Yeah No replied to chitowngirl's topic in Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage
Even more coincidental is that on this week's episode of "History's Most Shocking" they featured a very similar video of two women being swallowed and spit out by a hump back whale. It seems that they only eat small fish and can't handle something as big as a human so that's why they spit them out. -
My eyes are reeling from all the eye candy on this show lately. First Kaya's morgue guy roommate, now loan. Wowza! 🥰😍 I thought this was a fun, creative episode, although I agree that all of Elsbeth's fumbling with her eye issue went on too long and got in the way of the rest of the episode. When Elsbeth and Kaya were talking with the suit guy they were standing on the plaza of the Chase Bank building in the Financial District. I recognized it right away because the Treasury building is right across the street. I go way back with that street because my mom worked in the Chase building when I was a kid. I didn't mind the flirting between Elsbeth and Angus but I don't think they were quite ready for that kiss. But yeah, it's Valentine's Day so I guess I'll roll with it, lol. I do hope we see Angus again.

Yeah, it made me feel wistful for Sears. -
LOL, you're welcome. But knowing me, I probably would have given it to you anyway. 😉

It's actually that hump back whales' mouths and throats are not designed to be able to swallow or break down humans or any large creature so that's why they spit us out. They feed on small fish that swim in huge schools. It's only when humans get close to them when they're feeding on those fish that they accidently get scooped up along with them. I learned that from watching that show.
