I will need to rewatch this as I didn't see any kind of romantic stuff between the leads. In fact, I didn't see/feel any chemistry between Sully and Jaimie's characters at all. I was actually thinking for a change a show won't have main characters hooking up. Maybe I'll change my mind now that I've read all the comments and watching again. I'll be watching for it now.

Count me in with the group who can't stand Wesley Snipes. I will however watch this to see Philip. I adore Strike Back and am hoping that will offset my dislike of Wesley. I'm also hoping that he doesn't get much screen time. I know he's got high billing on this, but it wouldn't be the first time someone with a name has been given that distinction only to have very little screen time.

Me too. It popped into my head this morning too. I'm behind in my watching of the series, but don't his tattoos disappear after he figures out what they mean? I don't remember. Unlike hers, I do know his tattoos move which is kind of cool. Can't remember which talk show I saw Jaimie on and she talks about several tattoo artists working on her at the same time with only her "lady parts" covered up. She said she got personal really fast when they started painting her entire body. As this is network tv, I would think they will reach their quota of nudity sooner rather than later and she'll be on screen with more rather than less clothing on coming up. Of course given how much of Sully we've seen on Strike Back, this is very tame. I laughed when I noticed she was in a bra that fit her just after they find her. Does the FBI keep a closet of various sizes to clothe naked people? She seems to have acquired a few clothes that actually fit in a very short time frame.

I was the opposite. I adore Strike Back and the chemistry Sully had with everyone he played a scene with. I found he didn't have any chemistry with Jaimie. Might be pilot jitters and getting to know people thing. Here's hoping it changes. Having said that I will of course keep watching this for Sully. I also didn't have an issue with his accent - maybe I'm just not that in tune with accents, but given how well he did on Strike Back, I don't think he'll have a problem maintaining an American accent here. Here's hoping the cast settles in and gets as comfortable with each other as the crew on Strike Back seemed to be. When that happens this show will get into a groove. The last few minutes were off for me but given it's just the pilot I'm willing to give it some leeway. On a totally shallow note may I say how distracting the wig was on flashback Jane Doe. Seriously? They couldn't do better than going to a drug store and picking up a Hallowe'en wig? That's what it looked like to me.

This excuse annoys me to no end. Have you not watched the show? Why did you agree to do the show in the first place. I would hope that the "celebrities" asked have an inkling what the show is about and have watched some of the routines. This ranks up there with "I'm so busy please feel sorry for me when I can't find the time to practice or get my routine down". I have to admire the ladies who end up dancing with people like Gary Busey and smile and pretend everything is good. Best performances ever in some cases.

I agree with you on your description of Scott. Given the nature of his occupation he made the most of the rest of his time when he wasn't working. I hope this show will have its comedic moments just like Strike Back does. Various interviews with Sully and Philip have talked about their connection and how they improvised on set and were allowed to because of their connection. Here's hoping some of that follows through on this show. Michael Stonebridge does have a wicked sense of humour as observed in last week's SB episode - LOL!

Friday night the scene with Michael taunting Li-Na was classic and yes funny. The look on Damien's face was priceless but when he realized what was going on once again we saw what a great team these two are together. This will be another scene that I will revisit time and again. Sullivan has really brought the emotion this season. You could feel the heartbreak and panic when his son was threatened and later shot.

My Monday nights have been freed up. Last season I had to PVR stuff and watch most of this live due to all the shows I was watching. Having watched the "reveal" on GMA I'm actually pleased to know I won't have that issue this season. Not impressed with this line-up at all. I also noticed that Val said something along the lines of "now that I got the trophy I can get back to having fun and focusing on my partner" paraphrasing of course. A little competitive are we? Wonder who the chosen one will be this year?

Definitely two of my favourite scenes. I really like all the little throw away lines that pop up periodically - Miley Cyrus mention for one. Sometimes I don't catch them the first time around which is fine because rewatching is never a hardship ;) I know I'm now looking for some things I wouldn't have and appreciate more because of some of the behind the scenes videos I've seen. I know that Philip and Sully were the ones on the side of the building doing their own stunts for the climb which is pretty cool. So casual the way Micheal reached over and grabbed the grenade from the back of Damian's backpack. As for the long con, well it's been going on for years especially when the Soviet Union was on our enemy list. It's amazing that people do it in real life and really a little scary to think someone can follow through on something that long. I knew what Mei was but that was still shocking to see when she tells him she never loved him and says all the things she does.

S12.E11: Top 16 Perform Live + Elimination
Shades of Red replied to Tara Ariano's topic in So You Think You Can Dance
Just reswatched and have to say I was struck by the ease and comfort of Edson and Megz with each other when standing next to Cat. I know the dancers support each other but sometimes when waiting for their remarks they look uneasy making physical contact with each other. It's almost as if it's okay while dancing but then have to distance when not performing. -

That's a question that can never be answered at least in my experience. The man exudes a sensuality that is undefinable. Some people have it and some don't. I personally think it's something visceral vs something you can actually pinpoint. I know over the years I've had that kind of response to various people who others haven't thought twice about. I'm going to duck as I say this, but part of the attraction for me is the way he commands the dance and the way he focuses on the woman he's dancing with. It's partly protective, partly sexual and very masculine. There's a part of me that says "this is a man who will take care of me, cherish me and always be there for me". Not logical in the slightest, but again a visceral thing. -

May I get in line with you? Holy smokes the man exudes sensuality! Thought tonight's show was better than last week's. I was watching on CTV HD and it blanked/blacked out part way through Asaf and partner's dance. Anyone else get that or maybe it was just on the Canadian feed? I almost wondered if Shawn put something too risqué in the routine and it was censored? -
Welcome back! So glad we now get to see this season. Sad that it's the last one but at least both guys will be on my tv on a regular basis. Once again we get to see the guys rising up out of the water. There really is something cool about that. The action scenes are amazing once again.

S12.E09: A Decade of Dance Special Edition
Shades of Red replied to Tara Ariano's topic in So You Think You Can Dance
Adored tWitch and Alex's routine but was saddened there weren't more routines featured. This show needs to release some DVDs of entire seasons of routines minus the judges' commentaries. I started watching late and know youtubing it can be tedious. I know I miss things because I don't really know what I'm looking for. -

Slow hand clap for your entire post! Couldn't agree more but specifically want to say thanks for the above part I've quoted. I thought I was imaging things at first and couldn't believe what I hearing. What an awful thing to say especially with the two dancers on stage. I know at times Jean-Marc has some weird ideas, but in this case I think he had to do something to try to make it look like Asaf was doing some ballroom. It backfired, but there's only so much you can do. The reason it didn't look like a cha cha is it couldn't look like one. In fact it couldn't look like much given who the male was dancing. I think Paula is actually giving some great critiques to the dancers and is trying to help them. I didn't watch her on Idol so have no idea what she was like there. -
S12.E08: Top 20 Perform + Elimination
Shades of Red replied to Tara Ariano's topic in So You Think You Can Dance
First the good - I really enjoyed Jim and Jaja's routine. Quite like most of the judges' comments. At last some real constructive stuff the dancers can reflect on. The rest of the show, well, wow is the only thing I can say and that's in a bad way. The salsa was just cruel to all the dancers. You take people who aren't ballroom, put them into a dance that is usually a two person dance and then throw in all kinds of dangerous tricks. I can't be bothered to learn names at this point, so will say the poor fella who had to partner both ladies. Of course he didn't relax at any point. He had to make sure the ladies stayed safe and didn't get hurt. There was no breathing space in that dance. I know there are no "quiet moments" in a salsa, but there is space to get your center back with a basic salsa step and having things less frantic. I nodded my head as Jason talked about holding his breath during the routine as I did the same thing. I'm really not a fan of these "group" numbers - pair off the dancers and leave it at that. Either focus on the dancers and let them do their thing or give them all group numbers. It's easier to do the camera work if there are only two dancers on stage vs three/four in dances that people are supposed to judge dancers to vote for them. It would be different if they were dancing for longer than a couple of minutes, but they aren't. Travis needs to stop with choreography. He's either a team leader or a choreographer. There is enough talent in the dance world that people don't need to be doing double duty and that includes choreographers that make up more than one dance per episode. As for Asaf, well, I don't understand the edit he's getting and the soft sell of the judges. In years past the judges have eviscerated contestants who didn't have nearly the issues picking up choreography or spoken to the the choreographers as he has. Any sign of a bad attitude in years past has been reason to call out a dancer. Now he's being given special treatment and not really being called out on his short comings. I don't think the edits are showing him in a good light, but in past years the edit was carried over in stronger criticisms from the judges after the dancer had finished a routine. -
I am a first time viewer of the series and haven't read the books so don't know the story at all. I can follow what is happening, but it's really jarring to see the time jumps. This isn't a show you can miss scenes and be back in the story - at least that's the way I feel. I'm not sure if it's the editing courtesy of PBS or if it's the way it's filmed that's throwing me off. I'm hoping to rent the DVDs to see what differences they are and to possibly have some things a little more fleshed out.

Putting them into tuxedos would have been great. It's funny that whenever I read or hear about how "sexy" some of the routines are I laugh because they have nothing on some of the routines that we watched on the Canadian version. I will agree with the judges' comments about attitude and sometimes "just having it" (paraphrasing). I've met some people who just exude sensuality and sexuality without trying. It can come naturally to some people but sadly on this show that's rare. The young woman with the short blonde hair in this routine looked like the Gail character on Rookie Blue to me vs looking like Madonna. While I thought the ballet piece was incredible, I also held my breath the entire time as the floor appeared to be very slippery. I wasn't impressed that the choreographer thought it was a good idea to have the guys slide in different parts of the routine. Looked very dangerous to me but I'm not a dancer so maybe it only looked that way. On a very shallow note, thanks for the link on Asaf, especially now that I know how tall he is. I would think for a modeling profile the height would have to be accurate. This makes me wonder how tall Cat is in her high heels?! No wonder some of the dancers look so teeny next to her when Asaf wasn't even as tall as she is with his height.

S12.E06: Vegas Callbacks #2 / Top 20 Chosen
Shades of Red replied to Tara Ariano's topic in So You Think You Can Dance
As much as I would love seeing Denys dance again, I have to say after reading so many comments about his partner and the implications for their careers, I'll agree it was a good choice. I'm going to echo everyone who said there was no need to give him the edit he got. Have some class show. He's not the first person who has had to be replaced. They have replaced people (don't remember names or seasons) because their ballet company wouldn't release them from a contract (male dancer a few years back), someone couldn't get a visa in time, injuries etc etc. It was tacky to throw Denys to the wolves and make it seem as if it was his fault no other ballroom dancer got in. Not too sure what kind of format the show is going to give us this year and honestly I don't think they know either. I'd be willing to bet they will gauge things each week and then make decisions based on ratings and votes for the dancers. It would be nice to see some different styles on this version of the show like House. Any time this was presented on the Canadian version it was terrific and well done. The dancers looked like they were having a great time. I'm getting rather bored of all the contemporary stuff like many others are. If the show is going to change things up as promised, then please, change it up and give other styles a chance and cut out or decrease the contemporary. -
Thanks kalamac. So it looks like someone dropped the ball.

I haven't watched the entire episode, but in the parts I did see, no one asked the guy in hiding with his daughter to describe Oliver. If you know something is off wouldn't you ask for a description? I'll bet the description won't match Oliver.

S12.E05: Vegas Callbacks #1
Shades of Red replied to Tara Ariano's topic in So You Think You Can Dance
I actually thought I was imaging things as I was watching this exchange. I'm sure at one point she even told this guy he would need to make different faces when he was dancing with the girls. Seriously Paula?! Thrilled to see Denys back on my screen. I've been re-watching his house routine with Amanda and possibly a few others. I googled him and it looks like he might be in school in New York city. I don't remember what the prize was, but I do know that he didn't get the money or recognition from winning up here that the U.S. version gives to their winners. Interesting that he and his partner are partners in real life and not just on the dance floor. I almost cried when the one street dancer (forgot his name) was talking about no one in his family coming to watch him dance. You could tell it hurt him and shame on his family. He might not be as talented as some of the dancers, but he's certainly more talented than many that auditioned. -
I watched the first episode because of the review on here - Aidan Turner - oh ya, hot stuff, but will stay because I liked it. Having said that and reading that PBS has cut out scenes I may venture down to my local video/DVD place to get the discs which hopefully won't be butchered. Pisses me off to no end when stations/whatever you want to call the people who air series, cut out important scenes!

I'm hoping once this airs here in Canada (and the U.S.) that there'll be enough discussion to separate the episodes. You could keep us posted though if this one is shaping up to be as good as the previous ones - although the second season of Scott and Stonebridge was a little off but still worth watching. It may have been due to the plot lines and was meant to be as it was but it was a little odd to me. For anyone who has watched the first new episode, is it up to what we've grown to expect?

Maybe she's maxed out on her credit cards? I know when I was newly separated there was very little available for luxuries and the credit card I had had a very low limit. There wouldn't have been a chance in hell I could have come up with $200 let alone $1800. Let's not forget she had to buy a brand new wardrobe, has a vehicle (if I remember correctly) and has to room with a friend because she can't afford to be on her own.
