  1. In both of my houses I've had essentially two attics. In our current house, there's a big closet upstairs that has a door that opens to the space above the garage. Husband put some floorboards in and we use it for A LOT of storage. We also have a pull-down ladder attic that we barely use or access. We sometimes call that space over the garage the upstairs attic to distinguish it from the pull down ladder attic. And now I would swear attic is not a real word. So upstairs attic did not ping as strange to me.
  2. As a former moderator I would notice patterns. It helped me handle situations better knowing the patterns of how poster talk about the subject and with each other. But seeing the patterns help incorporate the granular into the bigger picture. And absolutely we are under no obligation to read, react, agree, interact, commiserate, advise, believe etc with anyone.
  3. Snakes and crocs and spiders are why I won't visit Australia. I'll go to Florida to go to Disney and Universal, though. @Scarlett45 are you still planning on visiting WDW this year? My DVC friends didn't renew their annual pass this year. We are hitting Halloween Horror Nights at Universal this year. My daughter and one of the friends went in 2019 and loved it. I'm a big scaredy cat but I still really enjoyed it. We had such a great time we're bringing the husbands along this time. Which, thinking about it, may be a mistake.
  4. I had bunion surgery when I was 37. I have orthotics for my shoes that are not Vionic. They are definitely worth the price. I inherited bad teeth and feet from my maternal side. (All the talk about a Rod kid not having her two front teeth--I went 18 months before mine came in. My mom even asked the dentist. But my teeth are awful. Palate expander and braces and they're still not great) I've been debating whether to get a pair of sandals but I can't justify it because I don't like having my feet exposed. I would be so worried about that snake because my dogs love to sniff things and I wouldn't be able to see it before I let them out. One of our dogs loves to really get into the long grass on the walk and I would not be able to see a snake. So scary.
  5. I always assumed that's why everyone got all nasty with each other when Loki was imprisoned. They were all around the scepter and arguing in small groups. It wasn't outright stated, but as the fights progress, the camera flips and focuses on the scepter as if to point out that the scepter was the source of the conflict. It would make sense that it was also affecting Loki.
  6. My husband helped his mom clean out his grandmothers (mom's mother) condo in Florida just before Memorial Day. (Was supposed to happen last Spring but as we all know the world closed down). He got super frustrated with all the stuff she wanted to keep. We've done two big moves and I've definitely learned to cull mercilessly. When we were talking about it later I mentioned (trying not to be morbid) but it kind of sucks that he and his sister (who was begging from afar to throw stuff out) will have to go through all of that and have to clean out so much. She was saving take-out containers, broken funnels and loads of stuff and my husband was pulling his hair out. I do think his mom was irked that we didn't take things but I put my foot down that we are not taking anything, we have more than enough as it is and we have no place to put it. He did throw out a ton of records. One of them was West Side Story one of the few musicals that he actively despises that I enjoy. He took a lot of gratification throwing that out.
  7. I moved to north Texas last year after a lifetime of living in the Northeast. The past few days have been stormy but also delightfully cool. But dang, here I was expecting near 90s because I know I've seen it get that hot here in May but it has been lovely. I have a feeling it's an anomaly but I am loving it--cool, rainy, gray days are my jam.
  8. @Tikichick I was trying to explain in general that yes, children are different. There isn't really a good understanding but it's hard because infants, toddlers and children aren't really great at communicating either. The rest of the post was not directed to that question and I'm sorry I didn't delineate.
  9. There are few things about pediatric studies. Many times parents don't want to have their children in studies. Informed consent is hugely difficult. But also, a pediatric system is different than an adult system so it's not so much a smaller dose. As for following the science, I'm well versed in how FDA works, thank you thanks to my job in Reg Affairs. It's not random and there's a reason things move slowly. Vaccines as a class have been very, very well documented and it's not new. There's more danger from daughter getting shot in a classroom considering her school announces that there are firearms in the school than she is being harmed by a vaccine. I wish you understood how those deaths are rated. FDA considers any death so whether the person was in a car accident it will be listed. Whether it can be contributed to the vaccine or not is another question and there have been no deaths attributed to Pfizer. A car is more dangerous than a vaccine. I understand fully risk to benefit and I don't need a stranger that does not know me offering ill-informed advice regarding my child. (I'm so glad Primetimer has the Ignore feature.)
  10. My mom called to tell me about the vaccine news. My daughter is 15 so we've been waiting for that. Now to see when I can schedule her....woo!!
  11. I feel like there were so many promising stories in IM2 and they chickened out. And thinking now what they could do on Disney+ with it and it bums me out. I enjoyed IM3 when I watched it (and I liked the Mandarin "twist") but it's not one that I'll rewatch. I mean, manipulating media to trick people into fearing something was a good idea, but perhaps not executed very well. It felt disjointed and without consequence. I preferred the exploration of what legacy is in Far From Home and Homecoming even though those were Spider-Man movies.
  12. I got my second jab today and knowing I'll be in a theater this summer, sharing the experience, and hearing Stan Lee's voice....there were tears. It's been a year and that vid struck a chord for me.
  13. Oh lord if I ever lose my computer/access to internet, I don't know that I would know how to procrastinate anymore. @rue721, I am no longer a mod here. I was more explaining the limitations and constraints that a volunteer mod team is dealing with. There is just no way they can verify each post or poster. And really, the best the way to handle is to either use the Ignore feature (or skim past/not read posts that discuss) or keep asking questions. No attacking, no accusing, just asking for clarification type of thing. I did it a while ago and the poster was in a bit of a snit about it but hasn't returned. (And I have a feeling that was a wanderwoman account). There is no tech way to isolate posters and ban them. (Ask me how I know after having to hit one poster who kept coming back using my handle and the word c*** for their handle. It was sooooo much fun). But yeah I can say that I'm the mayor of Whoville and there's an elephant carrying us around and that's not a post or poster that is going to be punished. But other posters are more than welcome to roll their eyes and ignore or ask, "Is your name Dr. Seuss by any chance?" I'm more of an ignore person and I don't post much at all because of the old habit of not engaging that much as a mod even though I'm not anymore, I still feel weird about it. And frankly if the criteria is that no liars are allowed for it to be a safe place than there is no safe place anywhere be it real life or virtual. That is way too high a bar, most especially for a site that is supposed to be about television. This is the only forum that I keep reading even though I have never watched an episode. Working with other mods on this forum and trying to help foster a community was very rewarding. So much that I still check in here because I do find this to be one of the best on Primetimer.
  14. I'm not sure I understand what's going on at all, but I am so looking forward to seeing some spectacle in the theater. Sept 3!!
  15. My son and husband got their second Pfizer shot on Tuesday and Mr. Toast woke up at 1 with body ache and chills (no fever). Son felt bodyaches. they are mostly better this afternoon but son's arms still hurt this morning. I had told them about all anecdotal experiences so it wasn't a shock. I will definitely be preparing for a day of doing nothing after I get my second shot.
  16. I am overdue for my eye exam but it hasn't been bad enough to need to go. I got progressives with my last new pair and I had no problem until we started wearing masks. My glasses are not tight, they slip down while doing housework and nearly fall off with yard work, so they do not hold masks down and it puts the lens right where it's starts getting to the bifocal part and just warps the view. I wear my mask over my nose but it's just barely over my nose because otherwise it's hard to see. We managed to get our Rx from our previous optometrist because I'm thinking of getting a new pair from an online place. But I just got my first shot and I might just wait a few more weeks and get my prescription checked instead. Husband got his second shot yesterday and woke up around 1 this morning with body aches, chills, and a headache. Son got his second shot, too, and is also feeling achy and a mild headache though than less than his dad. I will most definitely be taking day 2 easy.
  17. TX opened up and I started fiddling around today and actually found some slots at a nearby CVS. I've got an appointment for Monday and May 3. Woo-hoo! I'm so angry that it has been so difficult for so many people. I understand why they are sending it to pharmacies, thinking it would be easier for more people to access, but the technology seems to be a sticking point for those that really need it. Plus it's just a shit show in general, basically 2020 has bled into 2021. But there is light at the end of the tunnel and I'm so glad I'll be vaccinated soon!
  18. Thank you @emma675! I hadn't been looking at the TX site for a while because I was pretty much waiting until I heard about opening up to the general population. And I didn't think it would happen until April so I'm surprised it's so soon. Pleasantly surprised and excited. It may still take a while because I hope (really, fervently, passionately hope) that a lot of people are going to try to sign up. But I'll wear my patience pants and know that eventually I'll get my jab.
  19. Really!?!?! Husband and son got their first shot in Frisco last week and when he goes in a month to get his second he was going to try to get me signed up too. I wonder if the sites will be overwhelmed again. Either way *screech* *rushes to see about signing up* My mom in Massachusetts has her first shot scheduled for Sunday at the large vaccination site at the Natick Mall. Now, this is a woman who doesn't like to drive to places she doesn't know. For those unfamiliar with Natick, it's quite congested with some weird streets and the mall itself is huge. My brother is taking her there so she can see how to get there, but a friend also just offered to take her if she feels uncomfortable. (Which, this friend likes taking his son to the mall and hanging out as it is, so I don't feel so bad. And they weren't doing it during the lock down, so they are probably missing it!)
  20. Happy Birthday, @QuinnInND! I haven't had a dental cleaning in over a year as well--was supposed to have one at the end of February 2020 but I was sick coming back from Disney and had just started the antibiotic for the ear infection. It was rescheduled to March and lo and behold the lockdowns. They did try to get me to come in before I moved in July but I hate going to the dentist if I have an excuse I'm gonna use it. I have very, very tight teeth so I've had the numbing agent while they are cleaning/scraping. (It's so crowded in there the hygienist is all don't yank the floss out and then she has to yank the floss out. Which is when I point out that is why I prefer the water flossers instead) I've had the shot without the numbing agent and a shot with the numbing but I agree with the person who said it helps if the dentist is good about distracting. And, as I said, I hate going to the dentist so when I had to have two wisdom teeth out (the bottom ones are too close to the nerve and since they don't hurt, no reason to take the chance) they put me under. It was wonderful. I got a haircut in June just after Massachusetts opened up. I'm not getting a hair cut in TX until I'm vaccinated but holy cow could I use one. We got clippers for my husband and son and it's worked out well. Mr. Toast did it himself this weekend and went waaaay shorter than I had and shaved off his beard. Our daughter (15) was so astonished she burst out laughing. And now every time she sees him she busts out laughing. It's pretty funny.
  21. I will be double masking. I was going to the grocery store and that's it. I may start doing pick-up instead of going through the aisles. I'm irritated though because I have to go and get my license changed from MA to TX. We made the appointment in August for next week. So a nice crowded place with a bunch of assholes all thrilled they don't have to keep their distance or mask. So pissed. Anyone have a hazmat suit? The school district did reach out and basically announced that they haven't decided anything yet, so we'll see what happens. My daughter is full time virtual and I will not send her to school if masks are not required. Not going to happen. We'll see what they decide. My son works at a fast food place and if they don't require masks I think he'll have to quit because he has asthma. All his coworkers when they heard about the announcement opined that it was really stupid. But we'll see what happens with that. We really didn't want to move here but the job was good. Can't say that TX has not lived up to expectations, because it's basically been as bad as we thought it would be.
  22. I wondered if I had COVID last year, too. When we were in Disney during the February school break, we were all sick but I lost the sense of taste for a few days. On the drive home, we went to an urgent care where I was diagnosed with a sinus and double ear infection so felt like absolute shit. But that loss of taste was unlike anything I had ever experienced. But, it was barely the end of February and getting tested was near impossible unless you could show exposure to someone from China or Italy. We were asked if we had been around any foreigners....which, yes, we were in Disney World. However, I didn't have a fever and the cough I had with pneumonia was worse. It wouldn't shock me if if I had had it though. Interesting to note when I get my vaccine....whenever that is. May, maybe?
  23. Well, Howard could have found it and SHIELD kept it and then Lawson/Mar-Vell was working with it as part of SHIELD/Air Force. So Mar-Vell had it in orbit around earth and Carol brought it back down to terra firma. That doesn't strike me as too out of bounds. It could be Mar-Vell figured out the humans had it and worked with them in order to get to it. She was a little bit rogue, but she seemed to be able to work within the system until effing Yon Rogge (that name could be spelled wrong) screwed it all up. Also, I loved Annette Benning in that movie. She was awesome.
  24. Watching the episode I was all, "It's that book, from Agents of SHIELD, the season with Ghost Rider and he ... had the book at the end. Wait, what happened to the book. And what the hell is it called again?" Then walking around putting away dinner I just blurted out Darkhold. And if Agatha has the Darkhold, bad shit is happening. (And I'm not a comics reader, I just remember it was a very big deal during that season of AoS.) And damn, I still have that song in my head because it's amazing. Even though I wasn't necessarily surprised because of all the speculation, they did such a great job of the reveal with the theme song I am so happy. It's such a great way to treat an audience--knowing that they'd probably figure it out but making it worth it anyway. The thing that really is sticking with me is that Wanda gave the kids to Agatha. She told the kids to go with Agnes, they weren't taken from her. That's can't be a good thing.
  25. We got power after 14 hours. It was 47 in my daugher's room, slowly getting back and was 56 last I checked. I'm ok with rolling blackouts, but dang, that was not a rolling blackout. We called at hour 12 because wtf and after waiting an hour (figured as much) were told it was feeder and it was giving them trouble apparently. Yeah, they can't tell you anything. But we've had it for an hour now, so I fully expect it to go out again soon. But dang is it nice to have the heat on. And give the gas fireplace a break.
