Sansa’s tutelage at the hands of LF has made her the intellectually perfect partner for Tyrion. Her suffering at the hands of RB makes her appealing to him emotionally. He’s clearly carrying a torch for someone and I refuse to believe it’s Dany since we already been there/dine that with Jorah. I think they are a legit endgame ship assuming they both survive (a big of). The conflict for Tyrion will come IMO not from Dany but from Jaime bc Tyrion will be loyal to him and the baby Cersei is (supposedly) carrying.

Well I think after the BoW Jaime is super done with Cersei emotionally (he seems pretty damned attached to Brienne) although the point of conflict with him (and Tyrion) will be the child. They made sure to shine a light on that in 8.02. That may drive Jaime’s return to KL and whatever tragic redemption lies ahead for him. Would Dany agree to spare Cersei’s life if Jaime bent the knee? Or if Tyrion asked to save the heir of House Lannister? We’ll have to see what Bronn does; that will cement Cersei’s betrayal of Jaime since he didn’t believe at the end of s7 that she would have him killed.

I read them. Not everyone loved this episode.

I am more interested in the interpersonal dynamics rather than another huge battle although we’re likely getting one.

I hear what they are saying but everyone else contributes to Arya succeeding or else she would have been dead six times over.

ITA with those saying this was a team effort. And that’s not to take away from Arya’s heroics in any way. But this is very LoTRish where the actions of many directly influenced the outcome.

Jon, Dany, and Bran seemed useless while their army was being slaughtered. But of course maybe I’m being harsh given that I couldn’t see most of this dark and grainy episode even with brightness cranked all the way up.

I thought it was magic leaking out that (presumably) causes the overpowered spells and Fillory issues we glimpse at the end. I also fully expect the show to handwave away the impact of Q’s death after some token acknowledgement. After all Q didn’t even blink at El bleeding out on the ground in front of him. El’s emotional journey is going to be about getting that brave love interest that Q sacrificed himself to make possible both in the happy place and in life. Margo got her mediocre dude this season and El will get his next.

Yeah. I think the Monster plot would have had legs bc Fillory apparently needs a god and redeemed Monster v Everett could have been a thing. Especially since we saw him mulling over the beauty of a leaf and feeling sad he has no name.

At least when I watched BtVS back in the day, they got some downtime between apocalypses and relationship disasters.

To clarify — none of my comments about Jason are coming from any source other than the aired episodes and speculation about next eps. I haven’t read the books. I have no spoilers in that regard. 🙂 I’ve watched a lot of genre shows though and my spidey sense is tingling when they suddenly level up characters in emotional maturity and talk about them not being the real protagonist of the story. It sounds like an exit ramp. 🙂 Also I’m not expecting end game ships. I’m looking for the show to develop characters and relationships are part (not all) of what develops characters. I also think there is some social responsibility around the equal representation on the part of the EPs so that they don’t fall into problematic tropes. I think it detracts from the quality of the show to have the characters racing from one crisis to another without any interludes of happiness. This ep to me demonstrates some of the bad plot pacing and confusing characterization that holds this show back from being really great.

I’ve had the same thoughts. I still think Jason could be leaving the show bc of P40’s comments about protagonists and how they seem to be wrapping up all Q’s emotional threads. However if that’s not the case and we’re going to Triangleland or back to Qualice, I’m out. It makes no story sense and it offends me personally to be teased with primarily subtextual and offscreen relationships that they won’t pay off onscreen. The amount of explaining not showing the plot in this episode was off the charts. Juxtaposing Margo’s understandable pride in her desert quest with the fact that the Monster has all the stones was just wildly off tone. The reappearance of Hymen was bizarre. Not a great episode. And having Eliot absent for an entire season while Margo grieved and Q pined for him only to suddenly have Qualice kissing and everything shoved into two episodes to resolve while adding Julia in peril right after hooking up P23 seems ill-conceived. The EPs need to read up on the term catharsis. ETA that the mind swap left me feeling really icky. The violation of both Alice and Q’s consent was ugh. I think they wanted a Something Blueish vibe but...just no. In an ep that followed Margo sleeping with that cave troll to barter for her and E’s life...ick. ETA2 that I would also love Alice to have friends and relationships beyond Q. ETA3 that if El returns to Qualice kissing he’d better be brave as he promised and tell her to get her lips off his husband.

Wow. That Qualice storyline made me super uncomfortable. Save Kady and Zelda! The Binder made me cry.

Awesome! Now maybe we’ll find out this week if any of this matters or if they were both disposable characters!

I saw references to that vibe on Tumblr — that Penny saved Q and Jules while Q was reaching to try to save El’s body. JT does have a spectacular voice although I didn’t love the song choice. I fear more that Jules is the indestructible god body that the sister needs and they will be bound together.
