  1. I liked both Trish and Jen from their challenges but after last nights episode not anymore. When the show would go back to them I was cringing more and more each time. Something’s going to blow soon. Trish said if she doesn’t want to do something she doesn’t do it. I guess her life is doing things she likes doing all the time and ignoring the stuff she doesn’t want to do. Pretty childish to me. What if Amber wasn’t there feeding them the entire time - would they still be spending days making their beds and sitting there constructing a net? I doubt that net is ever going to be strong or reinforced enough to catch any good size fish. Maybe to force the issue Amber should stop getting fish and let Trish take the lead on feeding them, heh. I’d also like to know how making a fish net is a 2 person job. I guess I’m missing something.
  2. I’m still getting MeTV. Maybe this is an affiliate issue, like they decided to broadcast other programming? I lost MeTV+ recently - the station that was broadcasting it decided to switch to another channel. Instead of MeTV+ I’m getting old History channel shows.
  3. Whenever I see one of these lists I always look for Freaks and Geeks. I wasn’t surprised to see it on this list too. I had heard about it during its original run but didn’t watch. A bunch of years ago one of the cable channels would show a block of episodes every Saturday morning which is when I finally watched it. I enjoyed it very much and wished it had continued. One show I didn’t see listed that I don’t see people talking about anymore is Journeyman. IIRC I think it was a victim of not only low ratings but the writers strike around that time. At least they gave us a sort of ending/explanation of what was going on with the main characters’ spontaneous time traveling.
  4. The case the local who was on camera during Sunday’s episode should have been stressed during planning this XL. There is too much of a risk that any participant could contract any of the diseases they mentioned and suffer long term as a result (remember Manu?) Anyone here watching “Primal Survivor: Escape the Amazon” on National Geographic? The host is trekking through the Amazon in Guyana and is also getting eaten up by flies. He did find some termite mounds to run on himself. Anyway since he’s constantly on the move the flies don’t seem to be as serious an issue but I’m not surprised he’s complained about them as well.
  5. Wow, about a week in and half the group is gone. From the comments Rod made when eating that one fish I’m wondering if that’s the one that did him in. I guess the others will show up soon? Steven looks like he’s ok being alone, Dan not so much. I’m with Amber, it’s much more important to get a good roof on the shelter before working on the comforts of the inside. What would they have done if it rained again with not much of a roof? I guess Jen and Trish would be real comfy in their wet beds. 4 days seem to be a long time to be working on something like this.
  6. Given where they are my vote is for an In-N-Out Burger dropping in 😆
  7. It was Chance. Then Russell bailed on him in the middle of the night when it got too cold - I don’t remembered too much of the details but they had split off from the main group for about a day or two for something. IIRC Chance rejoined the group alone the next day. I’m okay with Amber getting another shot but that clip they keep showing with her and the shouting is grating, plus the preview of the conflict with Trish (who I think is capable of doing 40 days regardless of being teamed with a veteran) so far implies to me “I’ve been in this spot and you haven’t so I’m better” or to that effect.
  8. Oh well, I guess Gary will have to save his shenanigans for another time. Poor Steven - he did not look too happy about being left alone all of a sudden only a few days in. At first when they teased the surprise members I thought it was a gimmick but now I’m wondering with all of these early tap outs if it was a backup plan. It’s so early I’m sure the producers are figuring that there will be more as time goes on through the 40 to 60 days. The show must have these guys on speed dial or something. I’ve also been wondering if when they get to the 40 day mark if any of the 40 day people are still around will they be given the choice to continue on to 60? I love that the all female team seem to be crushing it so far, relatively speaking in comparison to the other teams. With Kaila and Dan I feel like I’m watching a regular episode of Naked and Afraid with the traditional male/female pairing. It’s great that Dan just happened on to that heron for food and was able to nail it with his knife!
  9. I saw it when it was first aired and remembered it as being ok, one thing I do remember about it was Ron Howard made an appearance, and if I remember correctly this was at a time when he was primarily directing movies and not really doing any acting roles anymore.
  10. Discovery is showing old Naked and Afraid episodes today - several episodes in and they haven’t shown any with anyone involved in the XL season starting tonight. I’m disappointed since there are a few rookies there I don’t remember at all and I’d like to see their challenge. They’re also showing promotions for this new Discovery+ show that’s a variation of that Naked and Afraid of Love series from last year. It looks like some Dating Game/Survivor mashup where they are posing the question about how many matchups there could be. Apparently they’re not naked this time so I’m not getting the tie-in except for the jungle setting. So Discovery when you’re airing Naked and Afraid are you aiming for the audience who’s interested in survivalists battling the elements or people who want to watch others hook up? Ugh. 😡
  11. I thought the purple walls for the shower was okay but that green tile along with it was awful, period. I wouldn’t pair it with anything. I’m not surprised regarding the “staged” sold price - seems from what I saw of the neighborhood on TV the houses in that neighborhood are butt-on-cheek and possibly starter (?) homes so who in their right mind would spend $475k on something like this. I think it was Keith (?) who said at the start of the episode that homes in that part of Orlando run in the mid $300k range … maybe someone here from that neck of the woods knows better, though.
  12. So did I. I had braces for about a year and a half when I was in my early 20s so I was highly motivated to take good care of my teeth such as flossing once a day, even with the braces. Getting food stuck was one of my major concerns then. Anyway, about the Invisalign commercial with the woman reminiscing about her braces experience back in the day and we see her younger self struggling with rolling down a car window … what does that have to do with anything? To tell us how long ago it was?
  13. Yeah, he seemed too agreeable to the whole thing, especially showing up a full day before when the house was still a mess. Full price? Right…. there’s tiling still to be done, most likely by people I’m sure the new homeowners will have to pay. I don’t believe the housing market is that hot anywhere that anyone coming in to an area new would be nervous about losing out on a house they’ve shown plenty of interest in already. I’d think it’s more realistic that Keith/Ashley/Justin would be the more nervous ones in this type of situation. Plus, who draws up 2 plans for a kitchen, one with a dishwasher and one without, when a dishwasher is pretty much a must have in a kitchen???
  14. He is the best IMO. He’s done challenges and XLs in diverse environments and has kicked ass. I love his attitude and I’d join in with watching the supermarket hunt and gather too.
  15. I’ll watch at least at first to see how whatever he does plays with the others. At this point he’s shown his cards enough that anyone who has had enough of his antics can hopefully challenge/shut him down enough to humble him if that’s possible. I think Matt is another surprise participant and he wasn’t happy with all the shouting last time. I’d be happier if they had the challenge in another location where his strengths are irrelevant. He did not do as well during his first challenge because the predominant food choices were things like snake. Fishing wasn’t an option. But then he’d probably pass at that opportunity anyway.
  16. Saw a post on Reddit about a Latin America version premiering this month. Then there was the European version that they showed on Discovery about a year or so ago. I think it was French? I didn’t like watching it because it was dubbed. One thing I did like about last nights episode was when Diogo had his talking head segment they had subtitles rather than dubs. It kind if reminds me of the international versions of “To Catch a Smuggler” that National Geographic shows all the time. What I’d be interested in knowing is where some of the alternate versions do their filming - say for Brazil did they go to the jungles a lot or are they going to the desert or other environments foreign to Brazil?
  17. Re: Last night's episode. Another fish basket??? How long do these things take to make, really? Especially if that’s all it appears that she’s doing while sitting around. It seemed that Nicole (?) was taking way too long. In the meantime Diogo is pulling all the weight regarding getting food. Hitting a squirrel then later hitting 2 birds, well done. Those larger animals seem to always be hard to hit with an arrow since they can move so quickly. I have a feeling if there wasn’t a language barrier there would have been a more heated argument between the two of them. I also just don’t get how she could start that fish trap in the pond (the one with the sticks in the water) then just quit part of the way through. You’re tired today, who knows if there will be other food to find so tomorrow you may be even more tired and hungry and less capable of finishing the job. You need to power through. Granted she was able to get that catfish but overall she didn’t pull enough weight IMO. With all the episodes in Africa I was wondering if they’re filming one right after the other or if there is some concurrent filming going on. They’re all probably in the same general area.
  18. I don’t think so but I’m in NJ and have never lived in Florida. I guess it depends on where the house is situated and how well it’s shaded by any nearby trees during the warm weather. I’d be wondering how much heat it would be absorbing vs how hot it could get and the energy it would take to keep cool during the summer. Then maybe any proximity to a lake may be a factor. Specifically speaking about yesterdays episode that house was on such a weird lot I was wondering how and why it was built in the first place. Then the way the lot was drawn and how the lake front view was originally drawn to favor the house next door. Very strange.
  19. I believe that was based on 70s era 60 Minutes Point/Counterpoint segment with Shana Alexander/James Kilpatrick. I’m not a regular news channel watcher but I’d tune in to CNN from time to time if they’d have some intelligent people calmly discussing their view points, not the screaming people that seem to be on any time I’d tune in to any news channel.
  20. I did a quick web search for types of honey and anything I found didn’t include anything like “don’t eat honey if it includes this …” so who knows what the problem was. We’ve seen other Naked and Afraid participants find bee hives and successfully get honey before with no issues later. This stuff just didn’t look right. Then there was that baby bird that died then they ate. I guess if you’re hungry enough you’ll eat just about anything but that bird? Uh, no. I’d keep looking around for something else.
  21. Yeah, in the first episode they had it pretty easy regarding the shelter since they could repurpose one of the structures from the abandoned settlement. With how long this show has been airing I’m tired of these people who show up seemingly ramped up to do the 21 days then tap after a few days because they’re so tired/hungry/didn’t expect this to be so hard. Then you get the people who keep coming back for more. Andrew and that nasty honey - it was making me sick looking at it, I can’t imagine how it was being there actually looking at it and seeing the bees floating around in it. He got on my nerves too and I’m wondering what else was said between him and Rissa that we didn’t see since it looked like they barely tolerated each other.
  22. I love that episode, especially how Mulder and Scully show us how they see each other during the telling of their side of the story during that episode. 😆
  23. No, but according to IMDB Larry David wanted to but by the time it was discussed too much time had passed and it would have been apparent due to everyone aging. After George’s mom passed I was thinking about Jerry’s mom and how she’s the only one left from the parents so I’m sad she’s gone. It’s also that thing of someone else from a show I watched during it’s original run years ago has died. I loved her delivery of “Hello, Newman” when he showed up at Jerry’s door during the Schindler’s List episode. They never said specifically what the deal was with Jerry’s inflection of “Hello, Newman” but I’ll bet it’s such an annoyance that she’s backed Jerry 100%.
  24. Who knows but I hope we’re spared a repeat with the alligator eyes. I’m certain rancid meat will be a food choice for him which will gross every one else out, again.
