  1. Sam. Stayed in the show till the end. I believe there was an episode involving his experiences. A former colleague who had not adjusted to civilian life as well as Sam. That was a great series.
  2. We had the Canadian Airborne Regiment. It was disbanded after a horror show in Somalia which lead to a national inquiry. I don’t think there is an elite regiment anymore but Canadian Forces are currently embedded with both the Kurdish Peshmerga and the Iraqi National Army, which would make a civil war there interesting for us. In a case of TV viewing influencing real life, I’m paying attention to this now.
  3. I was about to kiss the show good-bye after this episode when I saw there were only two episodes left. The season is that short? Did they know it was going to be this bad? Medusa is horrible; her entitlement gave way to self righteousness and didn’t look any better on her. Her subjects are forced to work in mines and she’s fine with this. Things are improving? For who? Certainly not the people of that town. How could Blackbolt allow himself to be that sheltered from reality? I lost what little respect I had for him. The people of Attilan should rise up, expel Maximus and declare themselves a republic. They’re better off without any member of that horrible royal family. Including Crystal whose storyline seems to have wandered off the set of The CW’s late, lamented (if only by me) Star Crossed. I actually liked Karnak and the pot lady. Naturally the show breaks them up so I can enjoy more of everything I don’t like. Free Louise!
  4. Wouldn't the ER doctor be a mandatory reporter? He would be legally and ethically bound to call the police if he strongly suspected abuse. Some abused spouses/romantic partners lie about their injuries to protect themselves and/or their abuser. Same thing happens with kids. Sometimes you have an obligation to act in spite of assurances. I don't work in medicine but I am a mandatory reporter because I work with children.
  5. Someone on another site suggested GRRM actually stopped writing the series and hasn't admitted it yet. He or she got piled on! I've been reading the series since 1998 or so, but I honestly don't care anymore. By the time I waded through book 5 and passed it along to my friend, I told her "he's never going to wrap this up in 2 books" and mentally wrote it off. I still enjoy the show though. I don't have HBO so I watch it with a friend when neither of us has anything else to do. We're currently planning a binge of season 7 over the Christmas break. I used to buy hard covers and pay for HBO so I could watch live. I'm cured!!
  6. I'm with Rogers (cable) and it carries The CW from Buffalo (WNLO) and Los Angeles (KTLA) Unlike CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox, The CW is priced as a premium channel here. I don't pay for it but it isn't really a problem because Canadian networks buy US shows for simulcasting. CTV carries all of The CW's DC shows and now W has picked up Valor (writing that without a u is killing me) The fact that it's on W leads me to believe Valor will focus on relationships and melodrama. To illustrate: tonight's prime time lineup on W consists of Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Chesapeake Shore and Greenleaf.
  7. No apologies necessary. You guys basically held my hand last year while I talked myself into quitting my job. I got more support here than IRL. I'm still very grateful for that.
  8. This episode must have been torturous for you!! Normally it must be manageable, with Ms Heche back in ops and the hot guys off on their missions. But this time? She was right in the middle of the action, with the two hottest guys, for the entire 42 minutes. I hope you don't have to go through that again :)
  9. You know, Cerberus might have been useful in this episode when it came time to chase people down the alleyway. Quarantine issues kept him home, I guess. I'm thinking that CIA guy is sleeping just fine, despite massaging his intel. A lot. He got a war criminal to The Hague. As long as his evidence stands up to legal scrutiny, he did good. Stop pouting, CIA lady whose name I still can't remember. I'm happy the Polish guy decided to bail on his employer. He seemed like he was a stand up guy but I would have been fine if someone decided they needed to shoot him if he kept protecting the war criminal. The SEAL Team seems to have some ballast. There's Jason. Ray. The guy who says what he thinks. And two or three other guys who barely get any lines. I'm assuming these are the guys whose tragic deaths or unfortunate missteps create a space for Clay and (hopefully) the other candidate I like better. Clay and Stella. What is that? They hook up three times and it's such a serious thing she wants to meet his father? Is that not clingy on an epic level? Do these two have no boundaries? Was that C Thomas Howell as Clay's dad? The exSEAL. Or are SEALS like Marines, where you're never an ex but always a Marine? Nate gets interesting! Boreanez is like a dog with a bone. Anybody want to bet he's about to step into something above his pay grade?
  10. I saw people on Reddit posting from US border cities and towns. Buffalo was one. Most of the non-Canadians I saw were people with geographical access to Canadian TV and/or radio, or people who crossed the border for work or school, or had a Canadian parent. My sister lives in Ireland and she wasn't familiar with them.
  11. I moved to Canada in 1990 so The Tragically Hip are part of the soundtrack of my adult life. I followed the story of his diagnosis, the final tour, and his advocacy for Native Canadians. We had CBC Newsworld on at work when the announcement was made and it's pretty much the only story they're covering. Still can't believe he's dead.
  12. I like both SEAL Team and The Brave. I hope this one gets a full season order too. The inaccuracies might turn off the military porn viewers but I'm just here to watch hot guys blow shit up. I haven't seen Valor yet. I was interested in it because Christina Ochea was brilliant in Blood Drive but I haven't heard anything good about it and here in Canada the show's being carried by the W (formerly Women's) Network. I can't remember the last time I watched anything on W. Their programming just isn't my thing.
  13. I remember Coby Bell from Burn Notice and before that as a rookie cop on Third Watch. Both of his characters were straight-arrows and a bit tightly wound. I've always liked him though. He always looks like he wants to smile but the writing doesn't allow for it.
  14. That was interesting reading. I fell down a complete rabbit hole and ended up following a link back to the official US Army website. Fortunately I'm not eligible or I might have accidentally enlisted! Operational Detachment Alpha is also known as the A Teams so my pop cultural worlds collided. Having correctly decoded LCDR, I kicked myself a bit for failing to realize that CPT was rank not an acronym. SWCC are seriously badass. I am familiar with Black Hawks (even saw the movie!) but I thought 4 H-60s referred to the boats which is why I didn't ask. I do remember thinking 'but I don't remember seeing 4 boats'. Not my finest moment! I also learned that CENTCOM should not have been involved at all as the Philippines are PACOM territory. I feel way more qualified to watch the show now, which is good because I read it's been given a full season order. Thanks again for taking the time.
  15. I love Ron. He's become my favourite TV Dad, and I felt really bad for him when Alex ruined the Bulls/Lakers game. Ron was so obviously looking forward to watching the game with Alex; then, not only did Alex spoil the result, but he walked out like a sulky teenager. He looked so petty. He did recover though by accepting his little girl's disinterest in Star Wars and immersing himself in her world. Both 2017 Alex and 2042 Alex are clearly influenced by Ron's parenting. In spite of his success and wealth, older Alex is still kind, thoughtful and relatively devoid of bullshit. I'd like to see more of Alex's mother though. It was interesting to get a glimpse of her relationship with Justin last night.
  16. It's kind of odd that Voq is shown on IMBD in character. I really hope Tyler and Voq are not the same character. That means I've watched two shows that introduced a male rape victim and then stepped away from it.
  17. Yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of that one too. I've always had a soft spot for locked door stuff though. I can't stand feeling enclosed but I like watching other people deal with it! Anne Heche is totally killing this role. I liked her in Men In Trees and I tried to watch that biblical apocalypse abomination she was in a year or so back, but she's giving this one the full Anne Heche and it's working for me. When she told Maguire to leave, I had nothing but confidence that she had it all figured out. Nate, the American Taliban, was sad. So young, and so broken. I just can't see how the Taliban is a better option though. In the shallow end of the pool, how did I fail to notice that Maguire is hot? Seems obvious now but I missed it for the previous three episodes. I'm not warming to Hannah at all though. She's the only character that hasn't won me over.
  18. I agree that separating Reed from the family wasn't the best decision. It really isn't a very compelling element. I don't feel that he's in any real danger nor did I believe he would betray the Rebel Alliance. Maybe next week they'll surprise me and shoot the guy, but I doubt it. As soon as Caitlyn's brother opened the door, I knew she was screwed. I've seen that actor way too often and he cannot be trusted. The scene with the kids was cute though. It was nice to see them in their natural element for a few minutes. The vigilantes seemed like Darwin Award candidates. The kid blew the door into matchsticks and they tried to give him another chance to kill them? Lorna is seriously badass, and is definitely my favourite character right now.
  19. Thanks. I appreciate that. Will check out the links after work.
  20. Everything I know about US Military I've learned from popular culture so it's not that deep. Would you mind expanding on the acronyms you use? I'm sure the people who answer are familiar with them, but I'd like to learn. Specifically what is an ODA? A CPT? Do the numbers refer to pay grade? LCDR - Lt. Commander? SWCC was another from further upthread.
  21. Also the father-in-law of Edward Woodward, who starred in the Equalizer. Woodward's wife Michelle was also an actress.
  22. Season 1 started airing on Space in Canada a couple of weeks ago and I've watched the first two episodes. I checked the forum but there was no recent activity so I might be the only person watching it!
  23. It looks like things are holding together over there. Unfortunately there have been three fatalities due to fallen trees, including one chainsaw misadventure. A school gym in Cork, which is the closest city to my hometown, lost its roof so it's a good thing schools were closed. I heard from my friend in Kerry (southwest coast) and she's fine; trees down but no loss of power, day off today and hoping for one tomorrow since the schools are going to stay closed. My sister said it was very windy and rainy; the neighbour's fence came down but no major damage as yet in the town. She didn't have wifi all day though. In an odd coincidence we had high winds in Toronto yesterday. The traffic lights in my neighbourhood were out and I live by a busy intersection so picking up some groceries was a bit of an adventure. I was out of wine though so I was crossing that road one way or the other! There was a huge tree down near my work this morning and the road was closed while a city crew dealt with it.
  24. I'm giving the episode kudos for coming right out and saying the male Starfleet prisoner was being raped by the Klingon (female) captain. I had huge issues with the way Agents of SHIELD failed to handle a similar storyline. I hope the character stays on and his experience isn't just brushed under any convenient rugs. I really liked Stamets in this one. He and Tilley were adorable in their eureka moment. He essentially experimented on himself to save his captain, his crew and the Ripper. I liked him with the doctor too. It was a dark episode but I liked it.
  25. My Dad died of an unusually rapid form of ALS (Lou Gehrig's) It was an end I would not wish on my worst enemy. He basically suffocated when the muscles of his trachea stopped working. Autoimmune conditions seem to run in my family, so I'm glad I live in a country where a dignified exit is at least a possibility now. And here's something I never thought I'd say: looks like my home town is getting hit by a hurricane tomorrow. Strictly speaking, it will be more of a tropical cyclone but it was Hurricane Ophelia. The storm is large so the whole of Ireland is under a Red Alert: all schools closed, the national bus service isn't running, government offices are closed and drivers are encouraged to stay off the roads. Irish houses are concrete and double-glazed so the infrastructure should be fine. My home town is going to get smacked though, and there are two rivers running into the estuary so flooding is a given. It better not cause too much damage though, I'm going home in November so I'd prefer the place be still standing when I get there!
