  1. Never in the history of TV has a (let's be honest) woman been able to maintain control of her hands upon being told dramatic news. Sometimes just seeing the police at one's door will do it. Also, editors love the sound of breaking crockery. It's the audible indication of a broken heart, get it?
  2. Agreed, but it is awesome when one of those defiant "I want it" people ends up quitting or otherwise gives up on a challenge. Contestants do need to be mentally and emotionally tough. Competitive reality shows will beat you down, frequently on purpose. He was a very good artist (and no doubt is better now) but mostly he was the original nice person. First season, so I had no idea how nasty and confrontational the contestants could get, but he was low key in the house and kind to the canvases.
  3. That flash challenge was an emotional bruiser. To the judges' credit, they always praise the tattoos on these types of challenges. The work was all pretty good this time, but the judges went out of their way to be kind since the kids were present. Have we ever seen the judges all disagree on the worst tattoo before? I thought it was the Klimpt, although I would have put Basilica/Christian's Degas in the bottom instead of the Goya. The donkey could easily be reworked later to make it darker, but the dancers were really mushy looking. I'm not saying Nunez shouldn't wear a pastel pink knit top, but the glass grandma necklace really took it over the top. Way to represent for every retirement community in Florida. The Sistine Chapel tattoo was arms and hands, which again makes me question the constant complaint that hands are so hard to tattoo. Tommy next week!!
  4. I wonder if Green and Norton are even interested in doing another series? Norton has higher visibility now because of Happy Valley and Green has never lacked for work. I don't imagine the show presents much of an acting challenge for any of the cast, to be honest. Even though the seasons are only 6-7 episodes, that's still a hefty time commitment that might prevent them from taking other work. They do seem to enjoy each other's company judging from BTS interviews and such. The viewership in the U.K. has remained steady through all seasons at 6.6M to 6.2M; those are pretty solid numbers. As nettled as I am about the plots moving away from detecting, I'd still watch another season. Not sure why after this one was so unpleasant, except that Geordie and Sidney have both shed their horrible affairs so hopefully they can get back to solving mysteries and petting dogs!
  5. Going back a while, I was convinced that Dennis Christopher was going to have an amazing, A list career after seeing him in Breaking Away. Dennis Quaid? I wasn't impressed. This is why I'm a money-losing stock investor.
  6. Do most people like Trish? In a normal murder mystery the victims are gone. We get stories from the living about what they were like, and perhaps a few flashbacks, but we don't really know them. This time we know Trish, although only her traumatized, post-attack self. But she doesn't come off as very likable to me in her interactions with others -- her boss, ex, and certainly Cath. She was drunk at the party (3 wines, 2 vodkas and 3 tequila shots), which, come on. At best, that's tacky behavior for someone in her 50s. (Not that her level of intoxication in any way invites rape.) I didn't like her obstructing the investigation by refusing to say who she had sex with -- it's going to come out in the freaking DNA tests, Trisha. Was she deliberately supposed to be a bit unsympathetic? It seems like an odd storytelling choice, if so.
  7. I've always liked the show but it's even better this season, right? I'm not just imagining that? I rewatched the previous seasons to refresh my memory before 3 started -- it was hugely entertaining to binge and drew me in even more. I was filling out a survey recently that asked for my favorite current TV show and I hadda say DM. Next episode looks to be fab as well -- Android centric!
  8. That was awesome! I wanted this to be a special two-hour episode. Our intrepid crew couldn't even manage to blend in for five minutes before being sussed out. Ha. Something weird about them, indeed. Did I miss where they got money, or where they just using credit cards? Two looked very pretty in her Terra Prime look/hairstyle. Melissa did a great job making that character different from Two -- as Three told her, she looked happy. Made me sniff a little! (And next week alt Portia is back, so more acting fun.) Now I really want the crew to visit a city that has the maglev boots, or whatever. They always go to dank mining colonies and shit. I kept wondering how I'd manage back in 1417 -- the toilet sitch for real, and I'd be afraid to eat or drink anything. Plus the Black Death. At least Two got to wear a cute wool duffle coat. The After Dark show mentioned that the dog Melissa was loving up is hers. So adorable.
  9. Not going to watch the show, not going to read the creators' mealy-mouthed justifications. Rage nosebleed coming on. (There is a forum for the show, if anyone wants to concentrate their disgust. Or be open-minded.)
  10. I like Mrs. McGuire a lot -- seems like most of us do. She has a caring heart but, let's be honest, it's well buried beneath the nosiness, hidebound rules, and judgmental attitude. She's unfriendly, prudish, and close-minded. So how does a personality like that attract someone like Jack? It's sweet for her to find a romantic partner again, but I do roll my eyes at the Perfect Fictional Person who comes on the scene and somehow sees past everything to love an unlovable character. (Or maybe it's just that I'd have much preferred to watch their relationship unfold than anything the two male leads have been up to.)
  11. That was the astronaut, right? I agree there was nothing exaggerated or cartoonish about it, the outlines weren't particularly heavy and colors not that bright. But apparently New School can be anything, according to the judges. Pfft. The tattoo of the three cats -- why was one of the eyes so janky? Honestly asking because I didn't watch all the client discussion. If the cat is blind, then put a New School-y eye patch on him or something. Unkindness Art's mad scientist on the skull is up there with my favorite pieces on the show. Yes. even the green, Nunez. I just really liked the whole look of it. The show should give $5K to the winning tattoo. It's a fairly meaningless honor as is. Also meaningless? The peer jury. I don't give two shits who or why they nominate. Through the magic of FF, begone! Seeing Christian struggle was fun, if only as an slight ego puncture for him. Is the unicorn supposed to be masturbating?
  12. I watched the season when it aired in the UK and must admit I'm enjoying being in the catbird seat (even though it's a tiny seat of no consequence or power). It's fun to read everyone's theories and um hm to myself.
  13. Who the bloody hell knows what "manly man" means to Danielle or anyone, but if Cody's own stories about his sexual goings-on are even partly true, he certainly has a high libido and many willing partners. Isn't that "manly"? Isn't owning one's own business and having a responsible financial mindset "manly"? How about stepping in to take control of Danielle's dogs? Pressing for sex has historically been seen as something men do. The main way he might be perceived as being "weak" is his timid and insecure interactions with Danielle, which she herself has caused.
  14. I LOVED the bit with the Trump/Scaramucci hand gestures set to music! I didn't know Scaramucci used to be a critic. What a scaramooch. The Donald. The Mooch. The Recuser. The Denier. The entire front half of the show was really fun.
  15. I'm only adding to the moaning, but yes to everyone. The show used to be fun, right? It's like a barely remembered dream at this point.
  16. Ahh, back in the day before showrunners decided that "gritty" and "atmospheric" were more important than "viewers being able to see what the fuck is going on."
  17. I may or may not have recognized some of my own intractable political moaning in those PITAsses.
  18. Well, who went and created such a compelling crew that viewers want them all together, again and forever? Some of us still mourn the loss of One. ;-)
  19. I'm so tired of TV morgues/autopsy rooms being dim and foreboding, with pathologists working under maybe a single overhead lamp. In actual fact they are very BRIGHTLY LIT.
  20. Perhaps the term has lost all meaning, but I think the idea of battle scenes being beautifully (some might even say lovingly) shot and lit, with hyper realistic gore, and perhaps with slo-mo images, is still a valid point. House porn, torture porn, food porn, weather porn, car porn, rape porn -- it's common nomenclature these days to indicate a certain glossy, over-the-top focus that entices and compels (or intentionally repels) viewers in some way.
  21. I wish Nate the best. My opinion of him has improved over the course of the show. He was very mature standing up to his mother in Sheila's favor over the whole "queen" designation, and I think he's done a commendable job overall dealing with Sheila's constant histrionics. When someone is determined to pick a fight, there's not a lot he can do except deflect and shut down.
  22. Even if we don't see it, I've convinced myself that Five and Android have installed new safeguards. I rely on Android's unswerving loyalty through ever-shifting seas!
  23. And 5! :-) I was appreciating him while watching the After Show; he has such a great smile which he almost never gets to use in the show.
  24. Gotta say, I'm in complete agreement with her self-assessment of being "vicious" and "not easy to love." PERIOD!
