  1. Yup. What "Sophia" said. Also, I am D-O-N-E with Roseanne. Wouldn't watch a single thing with her in it, or with her at the creative controls.
  2. I liked Fred, too. His sense of humor was awesome, and I think he walked a fine and successful line in dealing with Jackie. As in, he tolerated her for as long as he could, and then even long-suffering Fred could not take her any more. The actor left the show to take a co-starring role on a short-lived ABC sitcom. Roseanne made a reference to Fred's departure by saying something like, "Yeah, Fred married that assistant DA and they had three kids." Which was supposed to explain how/why Fred left "Roseanne." :o) As for Jerry, I always thought Baby Jerry looked like Roseanne's husband at the time, Ben Thomas. I was very surprised when I learned that Baby Jerry was NOT Baby Buck Thomas. There was such a resemblance.
  3. Annber03 said: In spite of how hard Twitter huffs and puffs about monitoring what gets posted, there's no way they would do much of anything. Look at how long we've been discussing Roseanne's vile tweet. Multiply us times the rest of the world, and that's how much publicity-through-osmosis Twitter is getting. They're not about to give that up.
  4. I'm in Rogers Park. Don't have cable, DO have an antenna. For me, the Antenna Network is Channel 9.2. HOWEVER, I can't recall seeing Roseanne on this network.
  5. I hope not. The cancellation was quick, unexpected and deserved. I hope it signals the tipping point. It's about time this culture started holding bullies accountable for their action. Roseanne can scream "The ambien made me do it" until she's out of breath. The real reason she did is it because she is a racist bitch who doesn't give a fuck. Her time is up.
  6. I think you might feel differently if you'd watched the original run. It gave viewers a chance to meet these characters, live their lives with them, experience their highs and lows. We are/were invested. I would totally watch a re-reboot featuring Metcalf/Goodman/Gilbert and most of the others (no Sandra Bernhard, please; she AND Nancy creep me out). Laurie Metcalf can do anything imho, including carrying a sitcom. I'd love to see her step into the starring role in a reboot.
  7. Ah...So Night Court it is! That is, the Laff Network replacement for Roseanne. Much as I adore John Laroquette, it's bedtime for moi. Carry on, all. I'll need something good to read tomorrow. :o)
  8. Ahhh, thanks for the heads up. I usually watch the original reruns on Laff, which would be scheduled to start in about 20 minutes. I'll tune in just long enough to see what replaces Roseanne. And then it's lights out for the one with more cats. Buh-bye, you racist trash.
  9. Regarding the "Why don't they just pick up and move?" argument, I read this article on-line today. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2018-05-23/why-do-americans-stay-when-their-town-has-no-future From the article: "They’re human beings embedded in communities. We’re forcing cultural and social change on people, and people don’t like that. They don’t move three states away for a hypothetical job. They want to live where they are because their parents are in the same town, and their grandmother is in the next town, and they go to church there. Just picking people up and relocating them, it doesn’t work like that."
  10. There are no guarantees in life. Work hard, be nice, do your best to provide for your family, and still find yourself in the Connors' situation at age 65. It sucks. But it's real life for a lot of us.
  11. I think the names Archie Bunker, George Jefferson, Maude Findlay and the like would mean nothing to most individuals watching TV (and perhaps contributing to these message boards) in 2018. Those characters' shows first ran in the 1970's -- 40-some years ago! I realize many classic sitcoms live on in cable reruns. But I have trouble envisioning someone about, say, Darlene's age spending their evenings or weekends tuning in to cable TV reruns. Also? The TV shows of today are FAR more politically correct. There's stuff from the 70's that I don't think would EVER see the light of day on TV in 2018. (Anybody else remember a 49-yr-old Maude becoming pregnant and choosing to have an abortion?) Of course, YMMV.
  12. Have you ever tried to find a job as a female "of a certain age" while living in an economically depressed town? It ain't easy. IMHO Roseanne is lucky that she finds enough Uber work to justify even pulling the car out of the driveway.
  13. I don't think it's pathetic. I think it's how most of us 99-percenters are forced to live. Forced. As in, we really have no other choice. To keep this on-topic and avoid a wrist slap from the mods, I'll say that I too like the new neighbors.
  14. I thought it was inconsiderate of the nurses to gleefully continue talking shop while Christy tried not to vomit. If the nurses were that oblivious about how the dinner talk affected Christy, what else would they be oblivious about? And it seems like the scenario was set up for the equation to ALWAYS be three against one.
  15. He will always be Reverend Jim to me. :o) Watching that "Taxi" episode when Victor Buono played his father, still rips my heart out. Almost exactly like watching Jackie and Bev in those last scenes in last night's episode. I confess my mouth dropped open when I saw Christopher Lloyd. I know it's been decades since we were first introduced to him on Taxi. I also understand that looking disheveled is kind of his schtick. But still...if "Reverend Jim" has aged that much in 30+ years, that means the rest of us have aged as well. I'm not ready to accept that this much time has passed. TMI? OK, never mind. lol
  16. Oh, how I feel your pain. I'm extremely noise sensitive. I've found that the best way to protect myself from noisy neighbors (who could not care less how their noise impacts on others) was to live on the top floor of a condo building, not close to a trash chute, or an alley where garbage trucks inevitably roll up just before dawn. Why a condo building? No offense to renters, but I've found that renters don't feel the same sense of investment in their living space. "I'm outta here when the lease is up, so who cares what I do? If they evict me I'll just find another apartment." I've also found that managers of condo buildings tend to be a bit more responsive to complaints. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. But maybe this will help you when you're ready to make a move?
  17. I'm currently fostering for a rescue that focuses exclusively on pulling senior dogs and cats (shout out to Newman Nation!). Yes, senior pets are more difficult to adopt out. I've accepted that my two senior tuxedo boys will likely be with me until...they aren't. But what our group gets back in knowing that these creatures will know love and comfort until the very end? Priceless.
  18. No, Craig's List isn't a valid resource. It's actually against their policies to buy, sell, "rehome," trade or otherwise traffic in live animals on Craig's List. There are people who actively watch for these posts and actively flag them, when they appear. I would be one of those people.
  19. Thank you, ChicksDigScars. This is what I really wanted to say in my earlier post. But you said it so much better, with excellent (and accurate) points made. (Typed while a senior hospice foster kitty rests himself on my lap; an animal control confiscate case who would have been euthanized if I hadn't stepped up to foster him.)
  20. The Big Bang Theory. Lady Bird (Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress 2018). Countless stage productions over the last several decades.
  21. It sounds like you've had some bad experiences that have shaped your feelings about rescues. I'm sorry for that. But please know that there are many well-intentioned, well-run rescues that do operate with common sense. I volunteer for one of them. And I know of many others in my area. I'm sure there are also many others throughout the country. The last thing I would want someone to do, is give money to a pet store for an animal when (and I know this is a phrase you've heard before) the shelters are spilling over with animals in need of homes. The only thing shopping at a pet store does, is put more money into the puppy mills that supply those pet stores with animals. *Stepping off my soap box now.*
  22. I must now do some much needed bitching... Congratulations to all the assholes who worked so very hard to make the last two weeks intolerable for me. You put so much effort into your work that I am nearly speechless. A couple of examples: To the snotty little Whole Foods employee who walked directly in front of me...TWICE...without so much as an "I'm sorry" or "Excuse me," I'm giving you a standing ovation. Because you didn't just stop there. As I was in line at checkout lane #5, waiting while the customer in front of me ran back to get Italian parsley, YOU signed on to work lane #6. Did you invite me to come over so I wouldn't have to wait? NOOOOO! Did you even notice me standing there ready to check out even though I was in your sightline? NOOOOOO! Instead you leaned against the cash register and began chatting with checkout person #5, who didn't seem to have that much interest in helping me either (hey chickadee...ever heard of interrupting a transaction so you can start a new transaction -- mine!, and then going back to help the guy with the parsley? It's a thing! Trust me. I'm sure your Whole Foods register has some buttons you could've pushed to make it happen.). To the admin staff at my veterinarian's office. Your collective incompetence, inability to communicate, and obvious belief that you are superior to the clientele, also make you winners in this week's asshole olympics. Why did I spend time on the phone yesterday, helping you understand what I would need when I came in to pick it up today...if I knew I would have to start from scratch with one of your Stepford associates? The medicine I came in to pick up was pre-paid. All done, all wrapped up and ready to go. Or so I thought. You knew nothing of the pre-payment. You even gave me a "friendly reminder" that you would not be able to help me this way in the future. I, in turn, because this was the seven-millionth time I've dealt with the incompetence of your staff, fired back that "it was supposed to have been cleared with a phone call authorizing pre-payment YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. But I guess that didn't happen, did it?" Not that I'm feeling snarky or anything. And guess what: your winning streak may have only just begun. You know why? My beloved vet, the one who is co-owner of the facility and also your boss, is someone I have known for nearly 10 years. We're not super-duper best buds. But she respects me as a pet owner and also a long-time pet-care provider. I guarantee you she has no idea how thoroughly pissed I am with the treatment all y'all have shown to me over the last couple of years. I've tried to be the bigger person, give the benefit of the doubt, yadda, yadda. But today was pretty much the last straw. If I wake up tomorrow and still feel as pissed as I do right now, Dr. G and I are gonna have a sit-down to rival something from one of the Real Housewives reunion shows.
  23. I thought it was very interesting when, during the Today Show interview, it appeared that no one had been directly contacted by Trading Spaces to see if they would like to re-up. Genevieve heard about it via CNN and E. Doug seemed to say much the same thing. Paige called TS. So...makes me wonder how badly the producers wanted the OG's back in the first place?
  24. And for god's sake, put the lid on the toilet seat DOWN! (For photos, I mean.)
