  1. You are all so clever! Totally off-topic but I was watching a rerun of Flight of the Conchords and thought of this thread for some reason... funny rhyming stuff I suppose. Probably had something to do with the GoT advert that preceeded it. Sorry and carry on.
  2. If Bran can warg Hodor into doing stuff, I wonder if he can warg him into speaking something. And is that an acceptable use of the verb "to warg"?
  3. When Jaime lost his hand, my closed captioning translated his "Aaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!" scream as "It's only a flesh wound".
  4. Someone clever needs to do a few Celebrity Death Match cartoons for the upcoming trial by combat. Possible contestants: Jaime, Bronn, Loras, Meryn, Mountain, Oberyn, other random King's Guard type...
  5. I cast all of my votes for Charlie all season and I'm disappointed but not surprised by his elimination. The skating fan base was split. Unfortunately, this show is never going to be about who can dance. I think that if Charlie and Meryl had been on the show in different seasons (or if DWTS allowed unlimited votes) they would have both been finalists. Now I can throw all of my votes to Meryl.
  6. The trial by combat speculation is fun. Oberyn would relish the chance to defeat the Mountain so, if the Crown names the Mountain I could see Oberyn standing for Tyrion. I'm not sure Oberyn gains as much by standing for Tyrion against anyone else. If the Crown names Meryn (?), the icky Kings Guard dude, then I can see Jaime fighting him.
  7. ... just rewatched the final moments. Exactly when Tyrion demands the trial by combat, the camera cuts to Margaery and Loras. (They know the truth, or at least Margaery does.) Coincidence? Tyrion puts a barely perceptible "eff you daddy dear" smirk on his face and then the stare down between him and Tywin is just brilliant.... with the discordant strains of the Rains of Castemere rising. So well done.
  8. So Braavos is intriguing. On the one hand, they are all about numbers, says the loan committee chair. On the other hand, they have faceless men and dancing sword masters. That seems like a disconnect. I liked seeing the Salad pirate guy but I couldn't make out the punchline to the joke. Why did Ramsey let Yara go?
  9. Damn. I love this show. That was some amazing acting by Dinklage. Shae came out of freaking nowhere. If Tyrion names Jaime and loses then Tywin has no sons to carry on the name. Trump card, Tyrion.
  10. Oh $hit. I swear the trial by combat was a complete guess. Will he choose Jaime?
  11. Too bad Tyrion doesn't have the right to trial by combat as he did when he was at the Eyrie.
  12. Pulling out my pen to write the next chapter.... I think that Tyrion hopes that his "crew" (which now includes Brienne to guard Sansa) all end up safely wherever he sent Shae. He has a safe house overseas and a plan but might not get to fully implement it because they won't be able to find Sansa until next season. My speculation for the trial: Tyrion "plea bargains" to be sent to the Wall. He confesses and says he ordered Sansa away (asserting that she is totally innocent so that no one else will look for her). Bronn will go with him. They will meet up with Brienne and Pod. I want Brienne to carve up the cannibals and Pod to have her back. I'm saving Ygritte for myself. That's my story and I'm sticking to it for at least the next 72 hours.
  13. Do we know (show knowledge) if there has ever been a woman ruler in either Essos or Westeros? Is Dany breaking new ground?
  14. On why Brienne isn't looking for Sansa in Aunt Lysa's cuckoo's nest... the best reason I can think of is that everyone knows that the fine, upstanding Lannister loyalist, Lord Baelish, is there. Littlefinger would, of course, never harbor a fugitive and enemy of the realm so if Sansa is foolish enough to go to the Eyrie, she will promptly be returned to King's Landing. Instead, the assumption is that she'll beeline for what remains of the traitorous part of the family.
  15. I came thisclose to using the term retcon. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone.
  16. I think I might agree with this idea of miscasting. That could certainly be it. I'm confused. I'm almost underwhelmed. I haven't really been able to put my finger (little or otherwise) on what bugged me about the reveal of mastermind LF. Maybe it isn't so much the character of LF as the character of Lysa. I need to rewatch the series with the LF/Lysa story in mind but as much as I can believe their backstory, I'm not sure the show gave us enough information to see Lysa in the light we are now to see her in. Her involvement seemed to me to be more of a "wft that was a stretch" than a "whoa, how amazingly badass is that!" What am I trying to say?
  17. This is a good place to mention the excellent use of Hodor in the Particles feature dated May 5, 2014 (Nick Rheinwald-Jones). <here's where the link would be if I knew how> "Hodor you like me now, bitch?"
  18. I really need a Cliff's Notes for this show - the spoiler-free version of course. So... I think... Bolton was a Stark bannerman who realigned with the Lannisters via Walder Frey. Locke was one of Bolton's men and the one who turned Jaime into a southpaw. Theon as Reek admitted that the younger Stark boys are alive. To keep the rest of the North from rallying behind Bran and Rickon, Bolton sent Locke to find Jon Snow and hopefully Bran and Rickon. We can guess why Locke didn't kill Bran on the spot... first find out where Rickon is, kill him where Jon might not find the body and suspect Locke, hope the mutineers win so he, Locke, could maybe make it back south of the wall with Bran's head...
  19. How could I have forgotten Edmure!
  20. So how much of Westeros can Littlefinger now more or less lay claim to? Harrenhall (awarded to him by Joffrey), the Vale (marriage to Lyssa), the Riverlands also by marriage? (are there any male Tullys left or do the lands go to Lyssa?). He's angling for the North by holding Sansa.
  21. Unfortunately and unlike her kid sister, the only stabby, pointy things Sansa has experience with are embroidery needles that are probably not made of Valeryan steel.
  22. Yep. It's way too obvious with the gaping hole in the floor. As long as it isn't Sansa I don't care who falls in. And it's unlikely to be Littlefinger because he's like a cockroach - surviving until the bitter end. Maybe someone who isn't there yet will take the plunge. And I guess we might not have an Arya/Hound + Pod/Brienne meet up since Brienne announced they are headed to Castle Black. I'm okay with Brienne helping defend the Wall and laying into some Thenns.
  23. I can't believe they leave the moon door open. Of course, Plot. We couldn't have had the kid toss the pretty bird into it if it was closed but, still. I'm so afraid of heights I can barely look at the television when that thing is open.
