If you’re equating privilege with money, maybe, because those schools do offer financial aid. But going to an Ivy League school is probably the most privileged you can get in this country, as it relates to opportunities presented to the alums upon graduation. And boy is that uppity little pig proud of it, with her Yale hat. Her imperious tone and attitude toward the other teams are insufferable. I can barely look at that smirky mug of hers with its big snout when watching this show.

S06.E05: Fashion's New Superheroes
Mumbles replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Project Runway All Stars
Joanna is so awesome. She changed Cosmopolitan from a magazine best known for stuff like "How to Give a Better Beej" to a magazine that actually has a strong voice and discusses issues affecting women. I hear her once and a while on MSNBC shows talking about women's issues. -

She lost me a few weeks ago when she put Dolce and Gabbana in the same sentence as the Olsen Twins. But your point still stands. I never understood why Zanna Roberts Rossi was a mentor (and I found her uninteresting.) I do think Joanna Coles was great, back in the day. Unless it’s some mean girl like Kate or Michelle. She liked them fine when they were all picking on someone together. I was surprised, I was convinced that the makeup was some bobo brand but I googled it and it’s actually kind of high-end and sold at Bloomingdales. Yeah I’m with Isaac, I don’t get the bald cap and why was Ken all “some people watching this might not have hair.” Has that ever been a concern at all? Why this week? -

I agree. Moffat is a great utility player and I mean that in the best sense - like Bill Hader or Taran Killam. I still laugh at his delivery as the custodian in that infamous sketch in Saoirse Ronan's show about the new kid coming to class, a sketch that was circling the bowl because the audience didn't know what to make of it. -

My understanding is, they *expect* both the cast members and ten guests to rely on cue cards, given that scripts change frequently. (This understanding is from that legendary New York mag article years ago where Chris Elliot, Janeane Garofolo and others complained about their time on the show. Garofolo related a story where she was screamed at by a higher-up for learning her lines and not looking at the cards.) That said, working on the show means you learn to read the cards subtly. Some guests, like former cast members, are good at it as well, and it’s noticeable when a guest hasn’t mastered it (Gal Gadot was a charming host, but her cue-card reading was very obvious.) -

I think that was the show's idea of a joke. I like her too. She has some great imitations (you can find them on YouTube) which the show has underutilized. -

Not gonna get into a substantive discussion of atheism, but I didn’t see that sketch conveying atheism in a positive light. It was conveyed by Will’s character as fairly bleak. Leslie’s character just seemed to adopt Will’s character enthusiasm on a generic level, everyone else seemed pretty shocked. I am not a Farrell fan and really disliked that era of SNL but I did love the Real Housewives sketch and I liked the Crate and Barrell sketch for its absurdism. -
What killed me about the Dash scene was how vulnerable and human Victoria was, dropping to the floor and sobbing without restraint. Especially in contrast to that exquisite but refrained scene with Melbourne, where she was talking around the situation trying so hard to not tip her cards that she knew of his illness (even though Melbourne knew she knew). She’s a queen, but in those few moments she was just a person who lost her beloved dog. Very humanizing.

What annoyed me about her was that she specifically gave answers that she thought would give her the biggest laugh from the audience, knowing full well that the contestant would not come up with that answer. Which is NOT the point of the game. Charles or Brett would go for laughs in the way they phrased an answer, but still give a decent answer. And I never found Patti's jokes very funny. Joyce Boulifant's answers were out there, but I think that's because she really was kind of a space cadet.

S43.E11: Jessica Chastain / Troye Sivan

I would love to know whether Kate is lobbying for all these parts or whether Lorne, the producers, writers et al realize she's a critical darling and just cast her in them or write them for her. Maybe because I do like her so much, I'm *hoping* it's the latter. I've said it before but she's not reached Wiig level of annoyingness because she is less of a scenery-chewer than Wiig and unlike Wiig, when Kate is in a sketch where she's just a "supporting" role, she lets the others shine. -

Oh yeah, I saw that too! She lost me the first minute when she started imitating her Italian husband with a stereotypical accent. Real "woke." I was really racking my brain trying to figure out why I just don't buy her shtick and then I remembered that for years she lied about her age. Blatantly said she was born five years later than her real birthday. Yeah it sucks that film/tv actresses are deemed "too old" at an incredibly stupidly young age....but lying about your age is so stupid given that most of us go to high school and our classmates got the receipts! Yeah that was so unnecessary. Burk Bennett could have done it and played up a formal "establishment" type who's gleefully keeping a secret. -
The Annual SAG Awards - General Discussion

Didn’t Morgan Freeman have an affair with his step-granddaughter? I’mafraid the creep train has left the station. Olivia Munn and Niecy Nash screeching over each other and pretending they didn’t know what the actors did was excruciating and disrespectful. The actors looked annoyed in their live shots. -

It is a little much for Kidman to shout out to older actresses when she has gone to such extremes to look young. I think Kidman might be goofy on cold meds. She mispronounced Sarandon’s name pretty bad. I’m getting a little tired of the Big Little Lies “we’re all girlfriends and we love each other so much!” shtick. The more they do it, the less I believe it. -

Shaking my head that they cut to the “Get Out” table and it was all the white actors. -

Lol, you’re right, someone must have overheard a conversation like this, or maybe a writer/performer had this happen to them in a past gig waiting tables. I did love it, though. I’m very meh on Chastain. As an actor I find her a bit cold and robotic, even in movies where she’s not playing the steely tough woman. I get that she is vocal about current events and causes on social media but....I dunno....it seems very calculated to me. So in that “What Difference Does It Make” sketch, I felt she was playing the role of Woke Actor, which of course she was, but when she supposedly broke the fourth wall, she still seemed to be playing a role. YMMV as always. -
Yeah and I kind of agreed with him when he said that Russian pair skating to a weird medley of Christina Aguilera tunes just randomly selected three songs out of a hat. Stolbova and Klimov’s coach is my spirit animal, rocking that fur coat (I would use fake fur tho.) I have a soft spot for old school Soviet system lady skating coaches. You get a feeling they’ve seen some stuff.

Strudel-Boy and Cawowine: Irritating Kids in Commercials
Mumbles replied to OriginalCyn's topic in Commercials
Can’t stand the iPad commercial where the kid is asked what she’s doing on her computer by some nice adult and the kid smirks back, what’s a computer? -
I know, right? It would be very literal, but what can I say? I think a lot of these people were doing whatever the hell they wanted and then backing into the “inspiration.” “The Merlot was so crisp, so I’m thinking along the lines of a maxi vest or pantsuit.” Oh, okay. Was it a PR show where Zac pointed out emphasizing a woman’s hips is not a great thing for most women? That’s all I could think of with that white/cream winning look.

Caroline Rhea is such a hack. “I am in a movie where I have sex with hot guys....so it’s science fiction.” Get back to the brick-wall Ha Ha Hut. Couldnt stand the top row. Cheryl was lit and when she’s lit she can get screechy. Love Mario and Ana, esp when Ana goes against whatever the show expects her to answer.

Was it the episode with Gavin McLeod as "Big Chicken"? I always thought he played that role in a overly "mincing" way.
