Farmer Wants A Wife - General Discussion
janey99 replied to CountryGirl's topic in Farmer Wants A Wife
I just started watching the show and I've only watched three episodes but I'm stuggling to figure out a couple of the farmers. Brandon, OK, he's a potato and barley farmer and that seems legit. Nathan, he's a citrus and cattle farmer, also seems legit. However, Ty is a team roper - what exactly does that mean? Is he a competitive team roper so he travels around to roping competitions and is essentially a horse show professional (possibly with his daughter who looked like she runs barrels)? Or, is he a cowboy for hire who actually travels to cattle ranches to rope calves in different seasons for various reasons? In either case it seems like he isn't really a farmer and would probably travel a lot. Where would his wife fit in? Mitchell, exactly what is he? He bought a big piece of property and what exactly does he do on it? The scene where he unloads his "new horse" was cringey. That poor little thing was lame behind and looked smaller than Ty's daughter's pony. He was also hanging off its mouth terribly when he was circling it around with his feet practically dragging on the ground. -
Others may disagree, but to me, mackerel is a gross fish - it is strongly fishy tasting and very oily. I don't know about fileting vs any other breakdown, but the thought of mackerel broth is absolutely nauseating!

S11.E02: My Big Fat Family Secret

During the show I heard someone say the long lost daughter was 53. She would have been born in 69 or 70, depending on her birth month and exactly when the show was shot. I'm that age and I think closed adoptions were the most common type. Question for those who are upset about the wedding dress - what would you envision as the final disposition for a box-preserved dress of a person who has passed away? Whitney's size is exceptional so obviously she would never wear it but given that it is a nearly 50 yo dress with a dated style, probably no other similarly situated daughter would either. It seems like people feel it isn't being treated with the proper eternal reverence but really, what is the best outcome? Full disclosure, I've been married nearly 30 years, my wedding dress is (unpreserved) in a storage container and I don't imagine I'll ever do anything with it other than recycle it or bulk donate it when I move out of this house in a few years. Maybe I'm just unsentimental but I wasn't that troubled by them using it for what was essentially a costume party? -
Christina On The Coast - General Discussion

Was that ice plunge really just a chest freezer?! I did a little googling and it looks like there area actually some fairly nice ice plunge vessels you can get but hers looked like it was literally a chest freezer. I burst out laughing when her husband said "there's a little seat on that side for you" - did he mean the little molded "shelf" on one side in all chest freezers? I can't figure out if that segment was serious or if he was goofing around! -
I love Michel and Anthony but I'm shocked they won. Their interior design was very specific but I suppose that can be easily changed and they did add rooms which add value. I thought the whole season was too short. IMO, at least one extra episode where they did family bedrooms should have been included - either a set of three (nursery, elementary aged and teenaged), or a set of two with a shared bathroom.

Judging by the number of times they all ostentatiously mention "Harvard" during the show, I'm pretty sure Jeannette convinced Jazz to go to Harvard because she's thirsty for that upper middle class peer group awe and approval!
-
The Ivies let in plenty of people that have mediocre grades and test scores. Celebrities like Jazz add cache and schools seek them out.

I'm virtually certain he's the owner of Haydn. I've been at shows where he's been announced as "owned and ridden by." I board at a full service barn. I still tack my own horses. It is a mixed bag.
-
I'm pretty sure Quintyn soils his hands daily taking care of his horse!
-
I think my favorite part of last night's episode was Quentyn and his trainer helping out on a construction site and generally wandering around "in the wild" in their tall boots.

Intentional living? Oh no - she's the next Gwyneth Paltrow!

S04.E12: An Emotional Rollercoaster
janey99 replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Seeking Sister Wife
Maybe I am too old and I missed the body positivity bandwagon, but I don't understand why all of these women dress from the Frederick's of Hollywood catalog? When you are heavy or pregnant or even just reasonably active, it is not comfortable to constantly be tugging on your spandex dress and worrying about a wardrobe malfunction. Additionally, if polygamy is such a godly endeavor, how do they all reconcile the concept of "modesty" with their clothing choices? To be clear, I firmly believe all people should wear whatever they want, but I have a lot of trouble relating. -

Agree, she seems almost . . . .prepubescent somehow? Between her boobs and those jeans which look just like the "jeans" you would jam an 18 month old wearing a diaper into, Steve is looking more and more like a predator and the whole situation is skeevy. -
Christina Haack on the Prairie . . . .

I know right? Sit back on your pockets, you'll be fine! Especially in a western saddle!

Ooo - I know the answer to this one! When I was a freshman, many many moons ago, I had a roommate for about 3 days - you see, her mother relocated to the same city our college was in and within 3 days my roommate had unofficially moved in with her mother. I literally never saw her again after the first week of freshman year. I suspect this will be Jazz's roommate's experience as well, if Jeannette moves to Boston!

It absolutely affects their legs and it's terrible for them. In the other episode in an earlier season where Taylor Sheridan is riding and they are doing the slides, you can see that the horses are lame out of the slides at least three times. There are too many leg injuries to count that can result from slides. For some reason they also breed quarter horses to have these tiny little peg feet and the smaller the feet, the more likely leg injuries are anyway. Additionally, those horses typically wear rear slide shoes which are very dangerous for other horses if they are turned out as a group. I have a AQH that was a former reining horse and she does have hock damage from her days as a reiner. She has special corrective shoes now. :-(

I saw a gossip piece somewhere (can't even remember where) that there is speculation she is actually at Harvard right now because someone spotted a social media photo and she had a "Harvard" ID lanyard. No idea if there is any truth to this!

So funny - my son said the same thing - she doesn't look real, it looks like a theatrical "fat suit!"

This was never more apparent than when Jazz was in the examining room with the other teen (young twenty-something?) at the new plastic surgeon's office. When he said "yeah, I'm glad I waited for advances in the technology, look how great my chest looks!" the long awkward silence right after that was super telling!

Ugh, I am so angry after watching that! Not one person in the family is capable of self-reflection or self awareness. Jeannette, with her middle school reaction to the Youtuber questioning the root of Jazz's mental health issues. (and as an aside - who was that woman who showed her the video? Running in with the phone like a 12 yo sharing a snap before it disappears? Do these people trawl the internet for things to be outraged about?) Let's all put on our supportive Tshirts and challenge a complete stranger who probably has more in common with Jazz than members of her own family. Let's not consider for one minute the validity of anything this person or any other challenger is saying, because we have designed and structured our family's entire existence around the "she would be DEAD!" trope. Grandma and Grandpa, with their creepy sexualization of absolutely everything. Again, part of the family's brand and identity. Penis lollipops, naked male models, too many double entendre comments to count. Blechh. Jazz herself, who is apparently a "valedictorian" who is a "perfectionist" who "got into" Harvard. Her entire persona is invented and/or consists of features which are portrayed as achievements and elections which she has selected but which are really immutable characteristics or circumstances which she has fallen into as a result of being a "celebrity." No wonder her mental health is a mess. Everyone around her constantly tells her she is a star. She is expected to do more "great things" when she really hasn't done any great things to begin with. She is built on a foundation of froth. As she is expected to move into the real world with actual metrics and expectations that everyone else is also subjected to, she cannot cope. She has had no experience in being held to any standards or judged in any way. AND, rather than realize this as her admission to Harvard falls to pieces, those around her continue to patronize her and coddle her in bubble wrap. Does anyone really think that a fake internship in a doctor's office where she offers nothing more than representation is good for her mental state? Stuffing goodie bags is volunteer work that cub scouts do! Jazz is not a dumb person, she must realize this. They infantilize her and then lament "why is she not maturing . . . . . ??!!" Don't even get me started on weirdo Xander. This show needs to end, and Jazz needs to extract herself from her extremely unhealthy relationship with her mother, whose whole existence is based on maintaining the validity and integrity of decision she made about Jazz's health when the child was ten. How can Jazz herself fully explore the root of her mental health issues when Jeannette has declared a huge chunk of her past off limits and not up for examination and discussion just so she can keep herself convinced that every decision she ever made was right?

I'm struggling to understand my like of all the "Bryan" shows. I wouldn't call it "hate watching" at this point but . . . . Sarah has an insufferable personality, no taste and terrible organizational skills. Every completed project is a mash up of multiple incompatible design atrocities. She costs extra money at every turn with poor planning and sequencing. Her oblivious and privileged "I'm so adorable I can get away with this" smugging is unwatchable. Bryan is a head-scratching blend of expertise and incompetence. In his talking heads, he sounds confident and qualified, then cut to the video, and water is pouring in everywhere on multiple jobsites, the winter weather is a surprise to him every time, and all his subs are side-eyeing him and his harpy wife. My husband pointed out that their kids have lived in construction sites their entire lives (which Bryan himself actually pointed out moments later in one of the shows). That clip they keep repeating of Sarah gleefully dancing around shrieking about daddy crushing Quintyn's room with the excavator while the he is standing there as a toddler is horrid. No wonder he hopped on a horse and rode away from the family! Our family has actually renovated a number of properties similar to the ones B+S have. We keep watching assuming we will see some common experiences and relate to them, but in reality we just keep scratching our heads trying to figure out how they have "successfully" kept at it for so long!

Alex was homeless with no fixed address, a legit retail job needs an address to start processing you as an employee. She couldn't even get emergency housing until she had a paystub, because initially she rejected the idea that she was abused so she couldn't get DV housing. She also had no childcare to leave Maddie with during usual retail business hours. She went to the maid service because the social worker (?) had an in with the business owner and knew she could get a few dollars and a paystub from there in order to get the ball rolling on other services.

I loved this series and was absolutely blown away by the acting, particularly Margaret Qualley and Nick Robinson. What range and so different from what each of them has been in before. It took me eight episodes to realize who Nick Robinson even was (although, maybe I have issues, because my 13 year old walked in for three seconds and said "hey is that Love Simon?!" LOL). I found the character of Alex's dad infuriating. Yes, he was sober, but it seems to me he only rejected, blocked and compartmentalized his "first family" and never made amends or acknowledged how he treated them. He got to write the narrative because of the mental illness of his "crazy ex," even though he was arguably still just as broken but replacing alcohol addiction with religious fervor is more socially acceptable.

Wasn't that poor puppy only about 3-4 months old!? How many behavioral issues could he have developed!?
