  1. Yep, and wasn't she pregnant again as well? Or maybe I'm thinking of Chris Watts and a bunch of others. I about puked when MacDonald said he'd never say he did it because that would "dishonor" his family. And I don't think I can bear to see Watts anymore after hearing his little girl asked him if he was going to kill her like he did her sister, which she had to watch.
  2. For the love of god they are still whipping the Helena Stockly dead horse. This seems to be all they have. Discredited and no evidence whatsoever she was in the house, move along! Then they gloss over facts like Colette having his hair in her hand. MacDonald's wife is pretty but she's another killer groupie or not very bright.
  3. I saw nothing new in that McDonald show that made me go "Hmmm, maybe he didn't do it!" If Helena Stokely is their smoking gun, that burnout couldn't swear what planet she was on. It's like they never heard of people injecting themselves into crimes. I think at the time some people just couldn't believe a man could do that. But as we've seen, it happens for ridiculous and selfish reasons.
  4. [Link fixed] Sorry about that. Yeah, it was while watching Lucy that I began to wonder how it was possible that the same person who made the first two seasons of Fargo could be responsible for it. It had a single humorous line by Ellen Burstyn saying "All that astronaut dick has made you soft" to Lucy, but that's it. One dick joke. I suspect the Coens had a much bigger role behind the scenes, at least in the beginning, than was known. I do think he's talented in the "magical realism" realm a la Legion.
  5. From The Playlist Noah Hawley Says Studio Originally Expected ‘Lucy In The Sky’ To Be A “Reese Witherspoon Dark Comedy” Maybe because anyone familiar with the story about the astronaut love triangle and strapping on a space diaper for a 900 mile mission to assault the rival were kind of expecting that as well? “I set out to make a magical-realism astronaut movie,” Hawley explained. “Not a lot of high demand for that. But that’s what the story wanted to be.” Why on earth use this particular incident, which fairly screams dark comedy, for a "magical-realism" treatment? Has anyone else seen it, and what did you think?
  6. Uh oh... I've got a theory that came to me while slogging through the interminable "Lucy in the Sky" that may explain what's happening here, but will put it in another thread.
  7. You may not want to - it triggered an obsession in me to watch it more times than is probably healthy. 😉 Good catch!
  8. I like the old cars and the sets. The actors are good, I kinda feel bad for them. I had to laugh when the nurse said to the schoolgirl "I've decided to make you a special project of mine." Any more easter eggs?
  9. Audience Contempt: a condition that often afflicts previous wunderkins in the entertainment industry (see: David Milch, Nic Pizzolatto et.al). Symptoms appear at around the two year mark and may include: Restlessness, irritability and boredom Narcissism, Delusions A belief that the audience is stupid and contemptible. It's not you, it's them. Virtue signaling, Hypocrisy, Projection An irresistible urge to Preach from within a gated community
  10. Thanks y'all for posting these links. It actually sounds worse than I feared, so of course I'll be watching, and remain for the snark.
  11. It's been so long I forgot where it left off, but they've been airing season 3 on my PBS. Usually that's a run-up to the new season, but it doesn't sound hopeful. Wonder what's really going on.
  12. Another repackaged repeat, and I'm not sure I believe him. It might be true but according to his parents he had no empathy even when small and torturing his siblings. I really wish my program guide would warn me about the repeats under a different name. James Patterson's show is now using old "Fear Thy Neighbor" episodes. I've been watching more True Crime Network shows like "Poisonous Liaisons" and of course Cruise Ship Killers which seems to have a mountain of episodes. lol
  13. If I ever had to serve time for murder, I'd rather it be a Canadian prison. Only two people seemed to work there, and they were kept busy seeing that violent psychopaths and their families enjoy their time together, even if the family was next on their hit list. Heck they even provide steak knives. WTF is wrong with these people?
  14. I've been watching "Cruise Ship Killers" on the Justice channel. I'm surprised at how many people disappear on cruises and how little is done by the cruiselines. They told one family that maybe a "rogue wave" swept her out to sea, although no one else noticed this rogue wave. No real investigation and no body makes it attractive for would-be killers.
  15. Well, trailers can be misleading so I'll wait to see it before commenting further. I will say my expectations couldn't get much lower, but I'm not as enamored as Hawley with the gang warfare he clings to.
  16. Cons: I would have liked more on the alienist examining some of these nutcases and their work with the justice system. I think it was a mistake to focus on Sara so heavily, as the actress isn't all that compelling, imo. The crimes themselves could be brought down a notch and made less sensational. What's next, toddlers tortured? The gangsters with names like Goo Goo and Ding Dong were less frightening than Lazlo's new girlfriend. Pros: The actress playing Libby was sensational. Rosie O'Donnell as Bitsy was a revelation. 😉 Love Ted Levine in anything. The sets and costumes were great. My Irish immigrant grandparents lived on Lexington Ave. during that time period, so it was fun to see.
  17. I didn't know that either. He doesn't advertise it. Just when I thought he couldn't possibly get more attractive. 😍 Interesting article on PBS about how premarital sex has changed through the years. https://www.pbs.org/fmc/book/4family2.htm I don't know why period shows always do this. I love a gratuitous sex scene as much as anyone, but would rather they don't if it doesn't fit. And speaking of, I haven't seen Moore spending a lot of time at a gym lifting weights in his time off, but may have missed it.
  18. Good catch! Yes, funerals can also get people horny, or so I've heard.
  19. I can't figure out what on earth attracts John to Sara. At least Vi has somewhat of a personality, doesn't look like she just smelled something rotten, has better posture, is more open and honest, and seems to love him. Back then I think a gentleman would find it difficult to break off an engagement without repercussions, especially one with Hearst's daughter. Goo Goo has issues but his girlfriend is a little high-maintenance, plus she's insane. Libby kidnaps the Vanderbilt baby, of all people, almost guaranteeing she'll be caught. But what luck the nanny was distracted at the very moment she passed by!
  20. The Vikings on History Channel would make your blood boil. Sad to hear this is happening (haven't seen it yet) since I thought the show had been somewhat accurate regarding known events and people, if not dates. I think when Netflix stepped in we began to see subtle but disturbing changes. The hairdos became more elaborate, like the fake Vikings on History Channel, for starters. There's a belief that you can't be both entertaining and accurate, apparently. I agree with your examples, but there's never been an award for "Most Historically Accurate" film or series. so am just content to hear another season will be forthcoming. Now I'm off to re-up with Netflix and shall return.
  21. Sara: "You don't like oysters, then?" Libby: "No. The city dumps all the horse manure into the harbor, I believe that's why they get so fat."
  22. He embarrassed her, a double murderer! That's rich. She's lucky anyone would want to spend 5 minutes with her.
  23. They do seem to gloss over the most interesting part. Probably because it's something that most anyone can do. Researching my family tree on Ancestry took some time and money (many databases are behind another pay wall or nonexistent), so was only able to get to 1705 Ireland before hitting a brick wall. Most of CeCe's cases involve families that have been in the US for quite some time, it gets more difficult when trying to research records in another country.
  24. She wasn't part of the genealogy search or capture, so I don't know. I haven't seen the show but I read the "book" which really was more about her than GSK, so was surprised they chose to base the series on it. So much was left out.
