I would like to see Cyril and one of the young nurses fall in love.  Then we would get some conflict with the racism of the 60's and of course his marriage would have to sink or swim.

I'm not opposed to dealing with racism, but what if the couple is of the same race but there's another obstacle instead of racism, like something with religion or social class.

The parallel between the discussed 1944 delivery and the police involved delivery was a good plot device. Sr. J probably put it out of mind because of the terror and the newbie held it together admirably until it was over. FWIW, the “broken” clavicle wasn’t an issue as it could only have been a greenstick fracture. It did, however, lead to the CP, as the stuck shoulder delayed delivery and prevented O2 getting to the baby. Nothing Sr. J could have done differently.

Interesting reading about those “doodlebug” missiles.

@Daff-That answers a question that I had and confirms one of my suspicions. Somethings things go (horribly) wrong and there is nothing the midwife can/could do to fix it. Sometimes despite all the best intentions and training, things happen beyond their control and ability to fix.

I liked the younger midwives asking for a fair wage/salary. I am interested in seeing where the plot line goes. They are trained professionals with advanced/training degrees and they deserve to be paid accordingly (at least enough to live on comfortably). While the nuns made a vow of poverty, that should not have to apply to the secular nurses. It's a shame that so many caretaking/stereotypical women's jobs are not paid as well as they should be. (hope that last sentence isn't too political).

I liked that Trixie was able to maintain her cool in a crisis and set an excellent examples for the new midwife.

14 seems a little young to throw a kegger.

Unfortunately, it's not too young. Plenty of people start drinking at high-school parties at that age.

Guess Mary was smart enough not to let their tax guy know that there was an $800 error in their favor on their taxes. 'Cuz you know Sheldon would have argued every penny back to the IRS. (Wonder if Mary even told George?)

I may be overthinking this, but what if that is their normal regular refund for the year? Sheldon does their taxes, he might not tell them what the refund is supposed to be, or knowing Sheldon, told them but they were too busy doing something else so they didn't hear him/didn't remember.

However, in this series we are now hearing/watching the recollections of an even older Sheldon, perhaps one that has had opportunity to have had honest conversations with his mother that he never would have had as an unmarried man...

    Sheldon is retconning himself!

And Georgie. It seemed toward the end of TTBT Georgie and Sheldon were starting to reconnect and develop a better relationship. I can picture Georgie telling Sheldon stories about what happened when they were younger and giving him more information than he had before.

It is still illegal whether or not Georgie and Mandy are married. However, spousal privilege would mean that neither one can testify against the other about it. At least that’s my understanding as a proud graduate of Hudson University law school

I forgot Hudson University had a law school. This is how you know you are among serious TV/Movie people and I love it.

I liked that Billy was totally willing to go along with Missy's idea of a party. I found it amusing that his mother wants him to do normal teenage things, and is willing to let him have a wild party.

And the plot to the namesake 1950s murder mystery Dial M For Murder is arguably even more convoluted.

Also, Todd’s being confined to the hospital is a plot device reminiscent of Hitchcock’s Rear Window.

I loved this episode. It may be my favorite episode of the season. At first, I was incredibly excited because I thought we were going to get a time-travel fantasy dream sequence (like Castle or Moonlighting, but since they did reference Moonlighting, I'm still hopeful we'll get one in a later season).

I think the title is a reference to Dial M For Murder, the plot has nods to Rear Window (Todd being stuck and convincing someone, especially a woman, that he's right and getting her to help) as well as elements of film noir, like the femme fatale.

Todd is a swirling vortex of chaotic comedy drawing in as many people as he can. This is what I tune in for and I was not disappointed. The show is silly zany fun with a case of the week.

I love the Godzilla action figures they carried on the red carpet and at the ceremony. I'm so glad they've been immortalized here!

I not only LOVE that they carried the Godzilla figures on the red carpet and when they went to accept, but also that they were part of the official picture for the winner.

The Deadline article on Jason Priestley's casting says it's set in Vancouver. I assumed it was in the US too.

It's a Canadian show that doesn't feel Canadian. I'm guessing because it was a joint production between a U.S and a Canadian company so it was designed to some degree for the U.S market.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode. Ellis and Max make a great team. They clearly have romantic feelings for each other but they are not going to admit them. If a kiss did happen, it would have been like this.

(It's from Moonlighting which is now available on Hulu)

That interview wiuth the author iof the book about MLMs was good-- I thought they asked her real questions and seemed to really want to get the info out. I am not sure people watching don't already know, but maybe I'm wrong. Either way, I thought it was nice to see an interview that was designed to be conrete and informative and not just schtick and empty chitchat.

I agree. Lydic and Costas are so much better when they are allowed to be themselves and not do shtick or characters. I learned some new things about MLM during the interview.

I'll never forget when Paul Newman got passed over for best actor for The Verdict and  Ben Kingsley got it for Gandhi. Both were deserving but Paul Newman's performance was his swan song and was outstanding.

Here is my mini-rant about Paul Newman and the Oscars. Although Paul Newman finally won for The Color of Money, he should have won for The Hustler or Cool Hand Luke

Back to the topic of this year's ceremony: I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but there's some fascinating behind the scenes stuff about the naked John Cena bit. It starts at 5:19.

Don't they have multiple takes? I assume the rebuttal is prepared when the speech is released, so there's time to film the rebuttal. I was under the impression they didn't *watch* the speech and just filmed the rebuttal off the printed copy.

The rebuttal is a prepared speech delivered live, much like the State of the Union itself.

Since they were reuniting castmates from classic movies, I wonder if they asked Robert DeNiro, who was also in The Godfather, Part II, to present with Al Pacino, but he refused.

There's a joke about "make him an offer he can't refuse" somewhere in this but I can't quite find it/put into words.

I wouldn't have minded just having the two singing as the song is lovely, but no dancing, nothing to distract from the people who had passed.

I totally agree with you 100% on this. I think my basic rule would be the cameras are not allowed to cut away from the screen. During the In Memoriam segment, you can have singers and/or musicians but the camera needs to be focused on the screen for the entire segment so the people at home can actually see what is on the screen for the entire segment.

Pacino is a huge theater nerd so I wouldn't object to him actually doing some Shakespeare.

Maybe Jimmy shuts up the last 5 minutes if his beginning dialouge so we can see more if the people thst have passed! Saying that...I thot Jimmy did fine. Beginning dragged a bit for me tho.

The issue wasn't timing. The issue was how it was filmed/edited/presented to the viewers at home.

  14. I agree with everyone who hated the In Memoriam segment. This may be the absolute worst ever. It is not a production number, it is not about the people/performers on stage. I have no idea how, or when or why the producers of the Oscars got into their heads that the In Memoriam segment is supposed like a best original song number but it needs to stop.

The In Memoriam segment is supposed to be a tribute to those we lost and a chance to remember their work. This is impossible to do when you cannot see or barely see the screen showing the name and their role/title (director, writer, actor, what not). Focus on what is playing on the screen and do not I repeat DO NOT have something happening on the stage. You have a fantastic orchestra in the room. Let them play something suitable and everyone will be happy with the result while we sadly reflect on the talent we lost.

HE'S WEARING A SPARKLY PINK SUIT AND LEANING INTO THIS 20000%!!!

I loved the number. I'm disappointed it didn't win best original song. My only problem with the pink sparkly suit was that he blended into the pink background too much, but maybe that was the point. He's just Ken living in Barbie's pink world and he isn't always noticed. Am I overthinking this?

The stunt people are amazing...and yet y'all still won't give them an Oscar.

I feel obligated to post this even I know it is incredibly cheesy and TV but not movies. Although the theme song does name check some movie stars, so it's quasi-relevant.

Mini-rant: The new movie looks like it completely lacks the heart and spirit of the TV series.

    Congrats to Da’Vine!

I guess this isn’t why I’m not a fan of the five presenters thing - I’d rather see clips of the performances of the nominees. It would be great to see bits of their work, especially for the smaller, less known movies.

I agree. Especially in a year with many lesser known/lesser seen films, this is a great way to promote the films and give people an idea of what the film is about or what it's like.

I agree,  until I saw Ariana Grande next to Cynthia Erivo then I saw what they were going for, sort of a Wicked cosplay, and it made more sense. Ultimately I liked it, but it only works when you see the two of them together.

When Mom used to talk to her brother on the phone once a week, she would slip into a New Jersey accent for at least 15 minutes afterwards.

I went to school with someone whose mother was from Boston. He knew she was tired when she started using regional Boston slang. He knew she was exhausted when she stopped hiding her Boston accent.

This is a genius description of how to achieve the perfect level of comedy!  And Todd is such a chaos muppet!

I have been saying since Season 1, Ep 1, that they need to find an opportunity to have Skylar sing.  It would be so easy to do, they could focus a story/case around a band, or a musical production, etc., and Todd does his go undercover bit.  My hopes of him singing at Susan's wedding have been trashed.  But yeah, now that Heather Morris is in the cast, they really need to make this work!

I can't remember where I read about chaos muppets and order muppets, but I'm glad you liked the description.

I want to see Skylar sing as well. Maybe the investigation centers on someone who owns/runs the venue (a bar, a club, a theater, someplace where musical performances happen). Todd goes undercover at the venue. Something happens and he has to sing, possibly to keep the show from starting on time or for another reason.

Ha, I was just thinking that soon enough we will only have two pronouns, they and they’s (the second one is possessive).

Just a quick FYI/PSA: Individuals who use plural pronouns tend to use they/them/theirs (at least that's been my experience).

There was a movement to create a gender neutral pronouns. I think it was something like ze, hir, hirs, but it didn't really catch on the way Mx. did as a gender neutral version of Mr, Mrs, or Ms.

And now back to the show:

I don't think this was the first mention of bathroom schedules. I am almost sure there was a mention of one while he was still in high-school. I think he offered to create one for someone who was sort of acting as protector/bodyguard.

George should let Mary be Team Mom.

No. Mary needs something in life that's hers. Even if her paid income was never something she viewed as a serious career and just something she was doing on the side to help out, her work was important to her and gave her something worthwhile to do. Now she's adrift and she needs something to fill her time, but I don't think Team Mom is the answer.

Mary was religious long before any potential cheating, unless it happened earlier in the marriage than anything shown on the show.

Mary was a wild child in her teens. After a real health scare when the twins were born (I think Missy almost died) Mary became religious.

Now, comparing all the screen versions of Emma... that can drive a person nuts.

Do you count Clueless as one of them? According to the Academy, Clueless was an adaptation of Emma and therefore in the best adapted screenplay as opposed to original screenplay.
