  1. I'm glad someone mentioned it, because it's been bugging me as well. I was born in 1980 so had friends with 1979 birthdays as well and was like - wait, we were a lot younger than these people are supposed to be back then! It just now occurred to me though with the talk about Annabelle... fictional or not, maybe she was younger?
  2. I kept expecting them to spell out at some point that the accident had caused Judy's most recent miscarriage. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but with her being so far along this time, it's where my mind went. I thought that made the connection between J&J even more poignant. They both really did suffer a loss that night, and one that connected them to each other in yet another way.
  3. Agreed. It is just so far-fetched. And no way is she going to be able to get a business license, liquor license or insurance to run a bar in a residential backyard, but I guess maybe that will be a future episode plot. I didn't realize it was a Mike Schur show. That makes me sad, but also curious to see if maybe it gets better.
  4. Why the hell would you keep a spreadsheet that could get you fired on the work servers? Especially, as HR lady said, in a company full of computer geniuses. Work on that on your laptop at home, geez. She's super, super lucky that Angela ended up being an ally, because that was colossally stupid.
  5. The family with the father and his son and daughter - they are so rude to their dad! Telling him to shut up, calling him a moron... is this a culture divide thing, or are they just awful? My family teases each other, but we aren’t hateful about it like these two (the son more than the daughter). On in a different note - the zero waste challenge. They’ve been making four servings/plates throughout the entire competition, and then the judges share off of one plate. So much for cutting down on waste. To be fair, this is something I take issue with in cooking shows in general, and sometimes feel a little guilty contributing to ratings for.
  6. Didn't the teacher used to be fully capable of going head-to-head with Dre about history and race stuff? They've turned her into an extension of the office idiots, what a shame.
  7. Does anyone else think the woman who is assumed to be Barbara Morgan looks like she might be related to Ashley? I thought that last episode, and then this one I wasn't paying a ton of attention and when I glanced up at the screen while she was lurking in the car, I thought it was Ashley for a second.
  8. It's a pretty common tactic when discussing how not to be a jerk, to tell guys to just imagine that it's their sister/mother/etc. As though being related to a woman is the only possible way to view her as an actual human being. So having his actual sister saying hey, this crap has happened to me, so maybe I know what I'm talking about.. followed by his actual mother relating a story from her past, and that being the moment that it clicks for Alex worked for me. Also, iirc, they did point out that the girlfriend might have felt pressured to laugh along to keep the peace, and he did push back about that possibility until Elena and Penelope disclosed the harassment they'd experienced.
  9. I did laugh during the argument about petty annoyances, because so many of them were so familiar. I get onto my husband all the time for not screwing caps on all the way (or fully sealing ziplocks, or pushing the tab thingie in on boxes... basically nothing in our house is ever closed properly), and I am totally guilty of putting trash in the car door compartment.
  10. They showed a close-up of his foot with a house arrest bracelet on the ankle. So it seems he is in some legal trouble. I wonder if there's going to be a storyline with the Judge up for election and that news potentially getting out, with Callie at the center of it somehow since now she knows. When Ben was interrogating her, she should have just said "oh yeah, I think she might live in my building" or something. It would explain why she recognized Malika, but without any appearance of a conflict. It's not unusual to only know your neighbors in passing, so it could have been the end of it. Now it's clear she was lying. The Mariana storyline... I don't work in tech or a heavily male-dominated industry so I can't say, but it feels like Alex and the other guy are such bad-guy caricatures. I know sexism & racism in the workplace is definitely an issue, but these days I figured it was usually more subtle, like getting passed over for promotions, crap assignments, talked over in meetings, etc? Or is it still really that blatant in those fields? He's like the embodiment of every exaggerated example given in our "How Not to Be a Douche" training every year. I just find it mind-boggling that literally no one has ever told the guy he's out of line. I don't even get the impression he's that high-ranking in the company. I get why Mariana can't, as he's her direct superior, but someone.
  11. I am always way late to these threads and everything of substance has already been said. So my ridiculous observation for this episode, re: Randall sleeping on the couch and what kind of message that might send to the girls... they have a couch in their bedroom. I noticed it in the last episode, because I was like "damn, their bedroom is so big it has a living room in it."
  12. Late this this party, but this bugged me so much. First of all, I thought it was kind of obnoxious to write an essay about how terrible the essay question was, instead of actually answering the question. I hate the stupid "what is your greatest weakness" question too, but if it comes up in a job interview, I'm giving my bullshit answer and moving on to the next question, not getting combative with the interviewer. But that's the tactic you want to take, ok. So commit to it. The last line about choosing the fireman completely negated the entire rest of his essay! "I couldn't possibly answer this multiple choice question because each option has it's merits, but, uh, D, I guess." Come on. But it also genuinely seemed like something a seventeen year old would write. His parents should have pointed that out, though. I'm surprised we didn't see the fireman's Thanksgiving. It would have been at least as relevant and the William/Jesse one. In the beginning when Deja got the text from her mom, there was a shot of her watching Tess and Beth and I got kind of a weird vibe, there. But maybe it was more about Beth's mothering compared to her own mom's than it was about Tess.
  13. She's already lost a baby. I don't really think they'd go there again. It does seem possible she could end up with twins (either they transfer two embryos and both of them take, or they gamble with only one really healthy one, and it splits) though.
  14. I know everyone loves to hate Kate, and I get it, but man, I identify with her so hard. I have always struggled with weight (though not to her extent) and finally was diagnosed with PCOS after seeking specialist treatment following two miscarriages. My baby is six months now, and I was 38 when she was born. I so hope she gets her happy ending, but then it wouldn't be this show. I think maybe us having such eerily similar stories makes me attribute thoughts and motivations to her actions that aren't really portrayed on the show. That said, I did cringe all the way through her pity party. Save it for an actual group therapy session, girl. I wonder if Toby tossed his meds hoping that they would get pregnant naturally before getting around to going through IVF? Either way, it was a terrible decision. I couldn't really tell what that building was supposed to be in the flash-forward. Maybe they are just leaving Tess's office? She said she was visiting the restroom "before they head over" so maybe we don't know where they're headed and it's not a hospital? I went back and watched the last couple of minutes of the season 2 finale, and it seemed like they kept cutting to Beth in a meaningful way, so I wonder if she's the She that they're not ready to see. I felt bad for Jack on the money thing. I know Rebecca reached for her wallet for the entrance tickets, but even during my dating days in the 90s, it was an empty gesture and just pretty much expected that the guy would pay. And this was 20 years earlier. Fessing up to being broke would probably also have earned him a bad review, so he kind of couldn't win with that one. Kevin and Zoe - meh, for now. I was surprised that Beth's reaction was about protecting Kevin, though. That was a nice twist.
  15. I finally finished this. My baby was born in March, so it hit a bit too close to home at first. It still did, but now with just enough distance I could laugh. I liked the earlier episodes where it was mostly just adventures in having a newborn, but I do appreciate that they fleshed out the story, or it wouldn't have been sustainable. I might watch a season 2, if there is one.
