I know this comment is 9 years old so no one will probably see my reply, but I have to say that he actually did. I have Season 1, Episode 4 up on my phone right now, with the closed captioning on, and these are his exact words: "If you are pregnant, I'm right there. Everything I got, every dime I've got in my fortune, everything is right there behind you. That child within you is going to be a lucky child. It's gonna have a wonderful life. I promise you." Was she silly to believe his drunk blathering? Yes, but she was 21 and he was 53.

I agree completely about Wes. Even in his first foray into reality TV (Real World Austin)., he was insufferable. He had a crush on one of his housemates, who had no interest in him. Instead of accepting that, he characterized her indifference as “playing games” and said that didn’t matter because he’s better at them. Except he wasn’t because she wasn’t playing a game; she just didn’t like him.

I haven’t watched the Challenge in a long time, but I remember one final in which his teammate had to literally carry him the whole way. Apparently he counts that as a “win.”

S16.E19: Sliding Toward Decision Day
Mstk3000 replied to Emma Snyder's topic in Married At First Sight
Why do you regret it? Your response was about important things in a relationship. His was entirely about physical attributes. Whether or not you met those attributes, I don’t think he was a good match for you or anyone looking beyond the superficial. -
Seriously. It looked like the haircut I gave my husband during the pandemic. And I have zero training.

That’s why they needed the Uber driver’s testimony. According to his account, the fiancé was hopping mad in the car and said “I’m going to kill the b***h.” Which obviously the friend would have heard also, sitting next to him. Then the driver also said that the fiancé hid while the friend fooled the victim into opening the door. That would have been enough for felony murder IMO but they lost the driver’s testimony. What I don’t get is why the fiancé didn’t have a mark on him. That was quite a struggle and she kicked him in the face hard enough for him to let go at one point.

That’s what makes me sad about any “glory days” story focused on high school or early adulthood. When I was in high school and old people would tell me “these are the best days of your life” I wanted to kill myself. Not literally, but seriously, if that was the best, what did I have to look forward to? I enjoy my life at least as much now in my 50s as I did then, because I have built upon it with education, career, marriage to a wonderful partner, and kids and grandchildren, not to mention longtime and newfound friends.

Don’t you remember that charmer Terry saying that the offer they received wasn’t just “F you money” but “F everyone you ever met money”? Lovely values there.

I agree about Alexis and remember that Below Deck episode; it was embarrassing to watch and the crew members were put off by her behavior as well. I think she came in looking for a fight with Shannon based on her new relationship with Shannon’s ex. She wasn’t prepared for the idea that Shannon’s problem with her isn’t about John (whom she’s well rid of), but about the legal problems Alexis and her then-husband put her through. So she had to throw in the “I’m the new, you’re the ex” comment to try to reframe the conflict; but Shannon either really doesn’t care (hopefully) or has enough sense to make it seem that she doesn’t. I thought it was telling that even though most of the women have issues with Shannon and think she’s in denial about her drinking, they still seemed to be on her side vs. Alexis (the “Barbie Doll” as Gina put it). Shannon did deliver a sincere and unexpected apology to Gina which may have played into that, but there’s also the fact that these women have known John much longer than Alexis has and don’t believe that “to know him is to love him.” They must be wondering if she’s with him as an avenue to get back on the show (and if he’s with her for the same reason). I do give Alexis credit for wholeheartedly accepting that her son is her son, which is probably why she and Heather have any kind of friendship (given their history and personalities, that’s the only reason I can think of). I doubt her son’s father is equally accepting and her religious beliefs as they were portrayed in her original run would have precluded that. So I’m glad that she put her love for her son as a person in front of anything else. I still don’t like her or have much respect for her intellect, but I’ll give credit where credit is due.

S15.E16: This Isn't Best Friends at First Sight

That was her sister so it’s understandable that they have similar tendencies. And it is normal to be distracted by wildlife when one is on a carriage ride in the country, especially when the thing you are interrupting is really terrible rap poetry (which she was perfectly ok with listening to in another context - it’s really Miguel who can’t read the room). -
Sorry to single out your comment (which I realize is 1.5 years old but I’m just watching now), but so many have been commenting on Lindy’s insistence on being put on Miguel’s insurance. What I recall is that she did so because he was insisting that she change her name (also before decision day, actually in week one). Putting someone on your insurance, and taking them off, is a click of a button (yes, open enrollment is only once a year but major life changes such as marriage and divorce are exceptions). Changing your name means endless paperwork with the DMV, IRS, SSA, TSA (at least if you have precheck), voting registration, etc. Not to mention any professional or educational credentials or certifications you may have. And then undoing that is the same nightmare of paperwork again. I can understand her reluctance to go through all that for a guy who couldn’t even commit to her enough to temporarily put her on his insurance.

I reliable this comment is close to 2 years old, but I refuse to watch MAFS with commercials so I have to wait until the season in question comes on Netflix. I didn’t take my husband’s name upon marriage, which he knew I wouldn’t want to do before proposing to me. As Lindy said, it’s part of her identity and something she’s not going to change for someone who isn’t fully committed to her. And she shouldn’t have to change it for someone who is (I didn’t and my daughter in law didn’t). It’s not just signing a form, unless you’re very young and/or have nothing in your own name yet. It’s going to the DMV, the SSA, the IRS, the TSA, to change your name on everything. Not to mention whatever professional credentials you already have in your name. Whereas my company will take on any legally registered spouse for insurance. My husband has never had a problem using my company’s excellent insurance despite not sharing my name.

This! All the emphasis about how all the friend group, including Taylor, gathered around Olivia to comfort her, and still do, because her brother died. Olivia made a point about everyone on the Jamaica trip stopping by her hotel room to check on her except Taylor (which might be explained by the fact that Olivia was constantly saying how much she never wanted to be friends with Taylor again). I had no idea Taylor’s brother died too. He was the one she reached out to when she needed to talk. I have no idea of the circumstances (of his or Olivia’s brother’s) death, but I’m sure it was just as devastating for Taylor and her family as Olivia’s brother’s death was to her and her family. Taylor looked really beaten down at the reunion; she just wanted to get it over with and out of there. I really wish she had said: “you know, I’ve been going through something too and none of you reached out to me. Maybe you are disappointed with my behavior but not one of you could have called or texted?” Now I don’t know for a fact that no one did, but Olivia said on the show that she felt bad that the state of their relationship stopped her from reaching out, and she was Taylor’s closest friend on the show, so I think it’s safe to say that none of the girls rallied around Taylor the way they did around Olivia. And for what? She kissed a toad who was never in a relationship with her friend and lied about it? I hope she goes back to her nursing career that Shep convinced her to quit and bids farewell to the show and everyone involved.

S14.E19: Boston Reunion Part 2
Mstk3000 replied to Retired at last's topic in Married At First Sight
I think the experts shied away from that because they were trying to protect Chris’s feelings. But he saw the footage of the wedding, how she said perfect teeth were important and production immediately zoomed in on his teeth, and how she looked dismayed and unhappy at the altar. He’s not dumb and knows it was his looks (what else could it have been since she basically called it quits that night?). Since he actually is a nice-looking guy (on the same level of attractiveness as Alyssa, IMO), I think he would have been OK with the experts pointing that out.
