  1. What magic does Julian Castro possess that he gave Rachel a momentary glimpse into Earth 2 tonight?
  2. Portia de Rossi quit acting. I think she came back to do a few scenes only as a courtesy.
  3. I somehow got free access to hulu as part of my Spotify subscription, and this is the first thing I watched. At first I wondered why it was called Shrill when the main character was a meek, overly obliging, put-upon person, but over the course of her awakening, the pendulum swings back the other way and she becomes rather unpleasant. I think it's normal for someone coming out of her shell to have growing pains and sometimes take things too far, and I don't mind having mixed feelings toward the character. She is brave to write her truth and go after her troll, but her workplace behavior is totally unprofessional, and she can be a really bad friend at times. The worst thing she did from my point of view was leave her dog with that idiot Ryan when her parents live right there. It seemed like just an excuse to get back with him. Ultimately Aidy Bryant is the big draw, and I like her roommate as well. I'm definitely in for a second season if there is one.
  4. Haha, "neck lasagna" made me laugh. I thought the body modifications were purposely creepy. But I was surprised how, taken out of the context of the A. Human installation and put with regular pretty clothes, they really just looked like elaborate accessories. It's silly to call them "body modifications" because they're just prosthetics you can glue on and take off like false eyelashes.
  5. Good idea. That could have been cool. I thought the designers on Team Feathers would make all their tops totally strapless and sleeveless to show off the feathers and go for a flowy or wing-like effect in the back. Instead they went the opposite route and opted to cage the bird, though I don't think it was intentional. I'm surprised the woman who has nine kids wasn't better at wrangling her group. You'd think with her being older and more experienced, and in the top last week, that she would have taken on a leadership role when grouped with two younger and somewhat insecure designers. Tessa got the the villain cut toward the beginning, but in the end she turned out to be an effective leader. I can't remember another PR group challenge where the top and bottom were so obvious. I could have been a judge! Thank the Maker they are no longer asking the contestants to throw each other under the bus with the "Who do you think should go home" question. That is such a big improvement in this version of the show. The host should use Heidi's phrase "You may leave the runway" instead of "head back to the lounge." It's much snappier. I like that they are keeping the language of "in or out" and other distinctive features of the show while updating other aspects.
  6. "I don't mean this to be rude. I don't mean this in a personally minimizing way . . . All these people who arrived in Trump's clown car with him..." That is not minimizing at all! I loved Rachel's description of all the random morons who are now in the spotlight because of Trump.
  7. Michael: Turns out I'm the worst. I'm the worst Bluth. Lucille: Never say that. Gob is the worst.
  8. She has interviewed Bernie many times. He was a regular on the show before and during his 2016 run for president. I'm not sure why he hasn't been on lately.
  9. I was a little sad no appreciation was shown for Abbi's display window. It was really cool!
  10. I got the feeling that Klobuchar is Rachel's favorite candidate, but she doesn't think she's going to win.
  11. I've heard ads for WeWork, but the reference went over my head. Now it's even funnier. I loved the fact that Jeremy trusting Abbi enough to let her peg him is what gained the trust of the all the tenants.
  12. I've been catching up on some of the videos posted here. The story they tell starting around 3:00 on Kimmel is something I can 100% picture happening on the show.
  13. 501 was inventive and hilarious. I'm sad the show is ending, but at least it looks like they're going all in on the final season.
  14. I was also looking for a Pelosi sketch but agree that, based on last week, they haven't found the right tone for her. They'd better get on that. As a New Orleanian I found the New Orleans tourist sketch pretty funny.
  15. IndieWire review of season 5 I love that the G&F twitter person made a "fuck it" playlist.
  16. I thought Rachel asked Harris tougher questions than she has asked the other candidates, and I was wondering why. Then we find out at the end that Rachel thinks Harris is going to win the nomination, so that explains it.
  17. And Nancy Pelosi is 78. My dad is 82, and I would never dream of trying to tell him what to do. I’m so mad at myself for burning through the whole season already. I waited to comment until I finished because of this weird new format where everything has to be under spoiler bars. My comments on episode 12, with a brief mention of the last episode:
  18. I wish the pigs had gotten more screen time, though those were some pretty hyper pigs.
  19. I thought this was a really strong start to the season. I was laughing from the first scene on. Lily Tomlin just gets funnier and funnier with age. The kids are the absolute worst, but I don't really mind that. Every show needs antagonists, and I love Grace and Frankie in solidarity against them. I was glad to see the exes sticking up for G&F at least a little bit. I don't care about the guys' story line, but they did get in some good lines: "You can't go crazy every time an old person doesn't answer their phone. Either we don't want to or we don't know how." "Some people need to get their excitement from a three-way, and other people get it from a new Audible book."
  20. Jane and Lily are always great in interviews, but this appearance on Ellen is one of my favorites.
  21. I finally watched the last three eps on Netflix. I was grateful for a few more hours with the Fosters, but the graduation episode made for a much better series finale. The time jump was not convincing at all! This was one of the few teen dramas I've seen where the twenty-something actors actually seemed like teens. I'm not buying them as college grads. What was the point of Corey? I get that they're trying to show how Steph and Lena have moved forward since their children left home, but it was hard to get invested in a character shown mostly on a phone screen. If they couldn't take that kid on location for whatever reason, they should have scrapped that story line. Another thing that seemed pointless was them moving out of the house. I like the idea of Lena running for office, but why couldn't it just be in the same district where they lived? I want to be able to picture the family coming together for holidays and events at that house. Seeing them move made me too sad for no reason. I loved the flashbacks. They even showed part of my all-time favorite scene from the show, the one from Mariana's quinceanera. All in all, I'm feeling very sentimental about saying goodbye to the Fosters. I watched solely because of Steph and Lena, and I'm thankful to the series for portraying such a wonderful lesbian couple. I want to be them, and I want them to be my moms. I will miss them!
  22. I never finished season 1 because I got bored with it. Instead I went and rewatched the original QE on YouTube. Now that it's back, I tried out the first episode, and it's just so sappy. Everyone is crying through the whole episode. As someone who enjoyed the bitchiness and snark of the original, I'm rolling my eyes through a lot of it. This new incarnation seems to be focused more on the drama than the make-over. I didn't get why the church couldn't have just done a fund-raiser for the community center. Apparently all it needed was a coat of paint and some tables and bookshelves. Tammye's makeover was minimal. Was that even a new dress? Did she get other new clothes to wear to church? The best thing was that they cleaned her bathroom. Overall it seemed like no one really needed a make-over and it was all just an excuse to cry and talk about gays and religion. Based on this thread, episode seven sounds pretty interesting, so I'm going to skip ahead to that one.
  23. Same! I've never had an emotional attachment to any of the Bluths or felt any investment in how their story lines turn out (and I've never needed that to love the show and find it funny), but now I really ship Gob and Tony Wonder! I don't think Tony is dead. There has to be more to it. Well, I also kind of want the show to end with George Michael and Maebe's wedding, but just out of perversity. I thought Season 5 was okay. It would have been a lot better with more Lindsey campaigning and Buster in jail. Here's hoping Tony Hale's schedule cleared for the second half. Portia De Rossi quit acting, so Lindsey will probably still be MIA. My favorite episode was the second to last. Looking back on the season, it's the only ep that stands out as distinct. Both the wild goose chase down to Mexico and Gob and the random closet makers' magic scheme felt reminiscent of classic AD. Otherwise, all the episodes sort of ran together. I felt the same way when I watched the re-edit of Season 4. It made the season easier to follow, but it also blurred the different story lines. At least Season 5 was light on Debrie. That character is so depressing. Rebel Alley is still a drag on the show. Tobias having a son was random and didn't really go anywhere. The son looks like he should belong to Barry more than Tobias. But there were a lot of parts I enjoyed--Maebe taking her ability to pose as an older person to a new level, her attempts to sabotage her mom's campaign, new running jokes like everyone knowing about the beach house except Michael, the looks Tobias gave Gob for his gay double entendres. I'm surprised there weren't any new Russian characters this time around...seems like a missed opportunity. AD will never be as good as Seasons 1-3, but I'm still looking forward to the second half of the new season.
