  1. My DVR glitched at the point where Chelsea was starting a story about a mom she met, who told her [crackle...stutter...frozen screen...??]. When the recording resumed, the hosts were silent for a moment with stunned looks on their faces. What did the mother tell Chelsea? I gathered it had something to do with kids watching the election.
  2. We learned Candace's favorite interview/guest: Miss Piggy.
  3. I feel like I missed an episode or a major development. Mac gets shot and the pastor is arrested and jailed as a result. And the pastor is bailed out and shows up with Mae at the deacons' meeting. Do we know what he was charged with? Then after being shot, there's Mac in the hospital handcuffed to the bed. Did I blink and miss a scene about how that came to pass? I assume it's because of the molestation allegations, but there seems to be a gaping hole in presenting the details onscreen. There are too many redundant and/or filler scenes, but the main plot about Mac seems disjointed and incomplete. We still have no indication of what happened to the girl he had in his apartment, do we? I had high hopes for this, but my interest is beginning to fade. I'm tired of Grace's two expressions on her face, I'm bored by her beautiful daughter's angst and their boring scenes, and Noah is attractive yet still so very bland to me. I don't know if it's the writing, the casting, or some of the acting choices that's going wrong for me. For me, the scenes only come alive when the pastor, Mae, Kerissa and her daughter, and Charity are onscreen. I'll probably finish the season half-heartedly. But still looking forward to Queen Sugar.
  4. Had to chuckle to myself because for the first five minutes of the show I was wondering who was the guest cohost. Turns out it was Candace, and I haven't seen her in so long that I didn't even recognize her. But then I guess she'll be back for the new season...why bother?
  5. This is absolutely crazy (maybe a symptom of menopause?), but I honestly don't mind Jedididiah. Elisabeth used to make me so angry and annoyed on a daily basis, but Jed only elicits an eye roll. Even though they both employ the same talking points, Jed presents herself more as a complete person. Unlike Hasselbeck, she's not preening or hiking up her skirt for the camera (and Geddie), she doesn't get hostile, pouty, or act victimized when the entire table is vociferously disagreeing with her, and she can concede an occasional point. Actually, sometimes I can see on her face that she knows she's talking shit, but she's committed to it and doesn't take it personally when she gets a well-deserved rebuke from a panelist. That's how I see it anyway. Clearly, practically one half of the country think as Jed does and presumably gets their news from the same places she gets hers. I was glad she sort of explained why the so-called family values crowd are mad that Hillary stuck by her marriage vows and stayed with Bill. I've never understood that and Jed gives me some insight into their point of view. EH was always just shrieky, word-salady, and often incoherent with her talking points. I liked Nicolle, and I somewhat like Jed aside from their politics. The View could (and has) done a lot worse with the conservative panelist. I never liked EH even during her stint on Survivor, when I had no idea of her politics. YMMV
  6. As a full figured woman, I don't believe the breast report either. My sister hated wearing bras and I, like Sunny, actually find it uncomfortable to have everything hanging out. Fast forward a few decades, and my sister's fruits are much more low hanging than mine. Plus, given that this is the View, I can be certain that they didn't actually research the issue or factor in any limits about the study (was it a small sampling of women?, did bra/cup size play a role?, was it a definitive or preliminary study?, etc.). And to top it all off, Whoopi has to stand up and take center stage as living proof that she is the poster woman for braless, non-sagging boobs everywhere. Which is ironic given the fact that during all of her years on this show, she has made joke after joke about how her breats are down to her knees, or she has to be careful not to step on them, etc., ad nauseum. But I guess we're supposed to forget that and pretend like she's not totally contradicting herself. Again.
  7. Yeah, the designs have become so rote on these shows. White (or gray) cabinets, white (or gray) subway tile backsplash, white quartz (or marble if they're feeling luxe) counter tops. I thought the tile in Jonathon's room was ugly, but it was nice to see something different. Still, I thought Drew's room was the clear winner so I was surprised at the outcome. I mostly fast-forward through this show anyway. Their sibling routine has reached the sell-by date for me, and I don't care about any of the hijinks or pranks. I pause to see the general plan and construction issues, whiz through to the reveal, and exit before whatever lame "bet" gets played out. One thing I don't get in general about these types of shows, is the insistence on "wood flooring throughout" but then each room has these enormous rugs in them. It's like you're paying for flooring twice.
  8. Agreed. Even if some of the problems are because production put the wrong script into the monitor, or goofed on the timing, you would think she would be able to graciously go with the flow and recover seamlessly without the audience even noticing. Didn't she host the Oscars (also live) a few times? The way that she gets downright angry if she's told in her ear that it's time to go commercial is so bizarre to me. It's like she gets personally offended that she has to cut her bloviating short mid-rant. As a viewer, it's uncomfortable to listen to her chastise the disembodied voice in her ear on a daily basis. And count me in as being sick of the "Welcome to The View, y'all" bellowing. I'm going to need her to stop yelling at me every damn day if I'm going to continue to watch this garbage. As it is, I spend as much time fast-forwarding as I do viewing the actual show.
  9. I'm not going to miss her, to tell the truth. I didn't think her performance during tryouts warranted a place as a regular panelist to begin with. IMO, she got a fair shot to prove herself, Whoopi adored her and actively tried to get the audience to see the hilarity that, frankly, escaped me and most of the audience. Her delivery was often too fast and garbled and her timing was so poor that she became tiresome to me. Honestly, I'm sure she's a nice enough person but I don't see how she got screwed. In comparison, Joy initially started as a part time panelist, but she made such a good impression in such a short amount of time, that they expanded the initial number of hosts to include her. She's had plenty of groan-worthy jokes, but overall Joy is strong in other areas. Michelle, sadly, is not (to me). What I will miss is her viewpoint. Single and in "the industry," but relatable to average folks. I did appreciate that you didn't immediately know what side of an issue she would take. I think the show was a great opportunity for her to get her name out there and make contacts with people who can take her career to the next level. Heck, she even got to meet and perform for music producer L.A. Reid (although she won the karaoke contest I wasn't personally wowed by her performance). Given how little I was entertained or amused by her, I think she was quite lucky to get the gig and the spotlight, however short-lived. I'm sure she'll be fine in the long run.
  10. For the most part, I enjoyed the season, but I was surprisingly disappointed in Jurnee Smollett's acting in this. I loved her so much in Eve's Bayou, but for some reason I didn't get any depth or connection to her character. She never seemed to disappear into Rosalee or bring the character to life. Unlike other posters, I never felt any real chemistry between her and Noah. In contrast, I adore the actress who plays Ernestine and I also thought the actors who portray Cato, Elisabeth, John and Pearlie Mae and some of the children were strong. I honestly wish I felt the same about Rosalee and Noah as most of my fellow posters here seem to. I just came away feeling blah about the main characters I'm supposed to be invested in. Still on board for Season 2, but not nearly as excited as I'd hoped I would be.
  11. Thanks for the heads up. I watched 3 episodes back to back on demand, and I quite enjoyed it. Hopefully there'll be more coming soon. Surely the Property Brothers could use a break.
  12. That was the most underwhelming finale reveal, I've ever seen. Apparently mid century modern restoration is all about stucco and concrete. Oh, and a transparent glass door so people don't look creepy when you view them from the inside. I used to like this show. Unfortunately, it really went out with a whimper.
  13. I think she does it as a holdover from her teenage sitcom days. The extreme facial expressions, jumping out of her seat, and OTT reactions to situations that are rarely (or barely) humorous is her bread and butter shtick. It's like she knows she's struggling on the show and is diving into her bag of tricks to see if what once worked for her "in the industry" will help her now. Sad really. And also annoying as hell.
  14. Thanks for that explanation. I'll have to rewatch that scene (again) because the sugar cane sticks went right past me. I can never clearly see what's happening. And I'll definitely turn on closed captioning from now on.
  15. I applaud my fellow posters for having much more attuned senses than I, because half of the time I can barely understand the dialogue/accents or follow the scenes because they're so darkly lit. The last scene in particular, I had no idea what was happening after Rosalee and Noah decided to run. There were a few brief glimpses of people in the dark, someone making a basket of food, somebody peering out from a wagon (?), and I think someone being choked. My husband and I were looking at each other, like "huh?" Oh, and earlier in the episode, Rosalee is attempting to return the seal and wax, and as she opens the door she is surprised by the master in the office. He asks her what she wants/needs and then the scene ends. But we're never told or shown what happened! (which seems kind of important to me given the tension build-up). A few scenes later, she's showing her mother the melted wax in a pot (I think that's what I saw anyway) but the audience is deprived of any pay-off scene of seeing what happens in the office and then her frantically deciding where to discard the wax. I don't know, I really want to like and support this show but it's getting to be a chore for me to keep rewinding scenes. I've loved Jurnee Smollett since Eve's Bayou (she and Debi Morgan gave Oscar-worthy performances IMO) so I'll keep watching hoping it gets clearer. The cast is strong--I just wish the writing, editing, and set direction/lighting were better. I'll have to check the forums after each episode to get clarity on what I just watched. lol
  16. Minority opinion here, but I don't mind Jedidiah at all. She's got a brain, but doesn't take herself too seriously. She laughs about her foibles and is able to debate without getting defensive or personal. Seems like she can concede a well-made point from Joy or Sunny without sputtering or acting like a victim of the so-called "liberal meanies." I don't like her as much as I liked Nicole (who I thought was more engaging), but I definitely want to have a serious Republican at the table even though I probably won't agree 95% of the time. It makes the conversations more lively and I'm genuinely interested in hearing from the other side. I do think she contributes to the panel and gives a voice to those viewers who agree with her. Varying mileages and all that...
  17. Well, the epilogue only said that she reported seeing no NEW mice. Didn't say anything about the previous mice families. Heh.
  18. I will miss the "A-Swirl" Twins. They were hilarious to me, especially with everyone acting like they were completely normal.
  19. What's actually more interesting to me is the carefully worded FAQ: It sounds like she came up with the idea, branded, and was "involved" with the original logo and product. (I'm sure TPTB tweaked the hell out of it). So she owns the brand but some other entity has the rights to the products and creates and produces them. Her family and friends try out the flavors as part of a focus group (complete with Americana napkins, no doubt). It doesn't even say that the focus group's input means anything. I wonder how much income a person receives selling their name to a company that was probably going to make the bars anyway; just needed a celebrity endorsement. I had to laugh that this was actually a frequently asked question on their website.
  20. Why was Paula out today? I heard Whoopi say that Joy was still sick, but if she mentioned a reason for Paula's absence, I missed it.
  21. We have Prime so I'll definitely watch it. I just wonder how/when they're going to advertise it so I don't forget about it by 2016 and miss it.
  22. My post from episode 9: I still can't believe I was right about the enemy being TAALR. I didn't even remember its name and was just half-heartedly throwing out a guess. So not a very interesting revelation. I actually laughed out loud when Molly, JD, and Ethan came back to the safe house and found the hybrid girl Terra missing. Mostly because Molly's only reaction was, "oh, she's gone...I knew we shouldn't have left her behind." And then nothing else was said about her (wondering where she'd gone, were they in imminent danger, was she still alive?, etc.) for the rest of the episode. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who didn't think much of the JD/Molly love scene. To me it looked completely unsexy, especially since I was anxious that they left Ethan alone in a house with strangers. Even knowing that most love scenes are choreographed, the viewer isn't usually aware of that fact if it's done well. The movements were so obvious here that it took me out of the scene. Which was actually okay with me.
  23. Having seen Caridee's current commercial for a psoriasis medication, I would have to list her as definitely one of the worst. Didn't she win her season? Watching her walk from scene to scene stopping to pose at each season and then give the final line to "ask your doctor..." never fails to amuse me by its awfulness. I can't remember how she did in the Cover Girl commercial challenge on ANTM, but her real-world commercial is cringe-worthy IMO.
  24. My first thought was that the potential enemy could be the Artificial Intelligence-in-charge that Toby went (was summoned?) to see in a prior episode. Maybe the AI was concerned that John's program was going to be a threat to its own existence; i.e., Humanichs surpassing his AI level and making his function obsolete in the future. This is pure speculation because I barely remember what happens in previous episodes, but I continue to watch for some reason. And yeah, I was drifting in and out of the episode wondering what kind of quarantine allows everybody and their mama to come in and out of the room like a revolving door.
  25. I don't get what TPTB saw in Michelle that made them want to hire her. Half of the time I never know what she's saying because she talks too damn fast and then mumbles the end of the sentence (containing the punchline, I assume) which gets lost in the din of the other co-hosts. Then Michelle looks around for approval with an "amirite?" or "I'm just saying," while Whoopi lays herself out and laughs uproariously. That's my clue that a joke was made but I have no idea what it was and even when I do hear it, it just doesn't strike me as knee-slappingly funny. Between Michelle's incoherent and inappropriate interview and Raven's helmet (maybe she was trying to disguise herself so she wouldn't have to sign a million autographs...heh), they should both be embarrassed by that performance.
