  1. My grown son would kill me in Dr Now's parking lot if I went out looking like this guy's mom. It's embarrassing just to watch on TV.
  2. I don't want to push anyone into surgery, but part of the attraction of the show for the patient is to get paid WLS. If, 8 months down the road, he finds he can't lose anymore and has started to gain and wants the surgery, he might not have the money to pay for it and TLC will be on to the next person. Unless he gets a job with insurance, which he needs to do anyway.
  3. Maybe - she's got someone to help her now with the disabled brother.
  4. Who has his own father and doesn't need to look up to this guy. Jeesh - I don't even remember his name.
  5. Clinique has a website and a lot of their products are also sold on Walmart.com.
  6. I was surprised. I wouldn't have a problem if he did alternate day, but 5 days sounds problematic. People do it all the time, but they aren't 600 lbs with eating problems. I can see him fasting and then binging for the 5 days he eats.
  7. You're a better person than I am. The missionary sisters (LDS have female missionaries as well as males) called for our weekly chat and I let it ring.
  8. Did you hear about the couple who were shocked, shocked I tell you, that their fancy electric car required 12 charges on a 1500 mile trip and that they had to do without heat for fear of running the battery down before they got to another charging station? These policy wonks in DC (and I was one of them) must not know that this is a big country with a lot of towns spread out and people who have to drive 50 -100 miles to go to a big store or a decent hospital. Electric cars will never catch on with most of the country.
  9. I've had 3 medical professionals tell me in the past 6 months or so, that I could pass for late 40's or early 50's. I even had someone look at my file and look at me and back at the file again. I am 69. I use Clinique. (and Olay, that's it) Y'all can call it old-fashioned if you want - it works for me.
  10. Y'know, I didn't want to say anything, 'cause I don't mind a beard, but I think this is too much. He'd look cleaner and more about business (as opposed to gaming and eating all day), if he cut it down a little.
  11. I'm used to the Caribbean pies. I used to get them fresh on the east coast, but out here with the Nordic people, I have to get them frozen from Walmart. They're basically smashed up meat with spices in a slightly spicy crust.
  12. I think I missed it - did this guy go to college or did he pick up IT on his own?
  13. Your situation is you eat too much. Eat 1200 calories a day, no carb, no snacks - and you lose da weight. Next patient!
  14. Hmm... I make handheld fruit pies for the air fryer. I hadn't thought of beef and rice, like an empanada, right? Shoot, now I have to learn something new.
  15. I thought so, too. Plus, at least he could walk down the hall on his own and drag his own suitcase. Think what he'd be able to do if he didn't stuff his face all the time?
  16. I made bagels from greek yogurt and flour. Again, I surprised myself! I follow this body builder who does high protein recipes, but then I learned it was an old Weight Watchers thing. There are a ton of videos. Not on de diet, tho.
  17. Do you follow Anti-Chef on YouTube? He does a lot of Julia Child recipes, but also has a series where he makes a dish from each country. When he did Albania, he made byrek, which is a lot like spanakopita. Being a Greek by marriage, I love me some spanakopita and was intrigued by making my own phyllo dough. So I did! I'm so impressed with myself! It actually wasn't too hard, but the commercial phyllo is more consistent and looks better. Still, I'm glad I tried. I'd make the byrek again, but with commercial dough.
  18. Hey, folks! My eating habit was a personal size, thin crust, frozen pepperoni pizza. I had my post-gallbladder surgery review today and I'm good to go! I still have to restrict some exercising, but other than that, things are fine. Strangely, I was able to eat that pizza when I had gallbladder issues (but got sick from a banana, so go figure), so I'm still sticking to things that didn't make me sick before and just branching out slowly.
  19. Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are. See the rest of you next week.
  20. I don't know if any of you follow Amberlynn Reid on YT, but she's been taking part in groups at a bariatric center, trying to qualify for weight loss. She keeps telling the audience that the doctors don't see the 'real' story. She has no understanding that it doesn't matter what kind of person you are, you have to follow the plan so you don't kill yourself on the other side. She was recently told that she had to stop binging for a year before the surgery and got all bent out of shape over it because "I've been in the group. I'm filling out the forms. Where's my surgery." Same sh$t, different day.
  21. We had all kinds of catered meetings, which meant not only food for lunch, but food to take home. It was a rough life. Before I retired, I actually went to employee services for some behavioral counseling sessions on best ways to control eating at home because I did not want to blow up like a balloon. We did some exercises, I found some new foods, and it was a good experience. I retired about 6 months before covid. I actually lost a few pounds during lockdown, whereas a lot of people took being home as an excuse to stuff themselves. Not me. I had counseling! 😄
  22. Another Boomer as well. So, see if this freaks you out - My mother died this summer. Off and on, I've been thinking about my remaining family and it dawned on me that I am the matriarch now. I'm not sure how to feel about that. I spoke to the sister closest in age to me and she agreed I was the oldest one. I asked if that meant that everyone had to do what I said. She said no. Hmmph. I'm pretty sure there are privileges to this matriarch thing.
