I say this as a very light skinned mix race woman >60 - there is a long standing history of color discrimination amongst blacks. My great aunts, who were fair skinned, often said that we should marry 'light' so that we would improve the race. This is just history and part of black culture. I admit that the first thing I noticed about her was how dark she is. Knowing how very dark skinned people have been treated by others in the community, I am very glad to see dark models and people like Gabourey Sidibe be mainstream these days.

I don't remember who it was, but there was one who used to do diabetes and nutrition presentations in the inner city until the program lost funding. She had a sense of humor about doing that - then going out to eat afterwards.

I may regret this later, but our obesee has a job and takes care of her baby. Props. I don't know much about asthma - do most kids w/it need oxygen before they leave the house?

Hello people! Let's quarantine with Dr Now! (no eating habit yet)

Small Talk: Only 2 Ounces Of Commenting Allowed
aliya replied to Meredith Quill's topic in My 600-lb Life
I think I was made for lock down! Before retiring in July, I went to a number of sessions w/a behavioral counselor at my employer (perks of university work, 'cause God forbid they should actually pay anything, but I digress). I wanted to make some improvements in my eating habits because I knew I'd be home all day with the fridge. I had already started intermittent fasting, which was going well. The past couple of months, I've been doing One Meal a Day (OMAD). Do I snack, yeah, but nowhere near what I see people doing online, and being diabetic, I can't take the snacking too far. I also make almost all of my food, so I didn't have a fast food jones to deal with. So, I've just been continuing my PT online work for my previous employer, cleaning, watching movies, playing computer games, reading, etc. The past few days, I've been Marie Kondo-ing my closets. Same old, same old. I don't know why people are having problems. 😄 (this isn't about people losing jobs, etc., I'm just talking about being at home) -
See you guys next week. Be careful out there.

OMG - I got bored w/Ashley and was on FB. I just learned that one of the loved professors from my doctoral program passed away from a brain tumor. She'd actually posted a lot lately and had just taken full retirement, so I thought things were going well. How sad. If you do library cataloging or classification, you know her work. My God - I just had a short conversation w/her on FB the other day and that I was working PT after retirement for my previous employer and having a hard time actually leaving. Man. eta - she was just diagnosed last week. Jeez.

What a terrible person. This is Texas. If Dr Now smacks her stupid, not a jury would convict after seeing the footage.
-
Another one with "too much going on." Man, what a piece of work. Free surgery, free medical care & blood work, and you're going to get all loud and wrong with the doctor? Yeah, it's dramatic TV, but that won't help you lose weight.
-
Holy heck - did she just get smart a$$ed with my doctor?

I read that they're re-considering what is normal temperature. Harvard is now says it's closer to 97.5. So, you're probably OK. Also, it's been advised that you hold your breath for 10 seconds when you wake up, as an early indicator of any developing lung problems. I keep forgetting.

Wait (I kinda tuned out after checking Lola's wig) - did Ashley say she had 3000 personas to Lola? And Lola believed it?
-
Is it because most people who get WLS are in the 400's, so she thinks she should just get it 'cause she's not 600?

I'm torn. I hate when the music of my youth is used for commercials. I just saw a Walmart commercial commending its workers, with (Saint) David Bowie's 'Heroes' playing underneath. I get it. I'm appreciative, but I dunno. 😐

Despite losing weight before the show, I think she is a bad candidate - no goals, no support, a tendency to lie, no effort at any level of activity. Let's see how she does on the diet.
-
I think this is the first person to say she dieted to show Dr Now she was serious.

You can order okra for delivery? Not that I want any, but this must be a whole 'nother part of the country.
-
Did she say she can't wash all of her holes?
-
Yo, yo, yo my people! My very early eating habit was spanakopita and broccoli washed down with some coffee ice cream.

It must be awful for families during this time, who can't even come to a funeral. I thought he would have died a long time ago - maybe Lisa really was feeding him right.

Wasn't able to contribute much this week. I'll have to watch the replay. See you guys next week.

I saw that one, too! G.d. the man was a freakin' genius and showman! I guess I was really awestruck because the next show I saw was the Decembrists in 2011. 😄

I actually met Anderson! I saw Tull several times in Detroit while I was going to UM. When I was back in DC, they were supposed to play at U Maryland. When we got to the venue, the show was cancelled. I told my companion that I heard that the Stones stayed at the Holiday Inn, if it was good enough for the Stones, it was good enough for Tull. So we went to the nearest HI and there they were, in the parking lot! I got to meet all of them. Turns out they were there, but the equipment truck had broken down on the highway, so no show.

I took an information economics class in my masters program. Professor looks at the class and smiles and says, "Don't worry. I'm only going to the first derivative in calculus." Wha? I'm an English/history major. It was an interesting experience. Half of the course was math/econ the other half was info econ and business planning (this was early online shopping days and everyone was talking about e-commerce). The math kids did the math fine, but faltered at the business part. The business folks like me struggled thru the math in study groups, and did well in the business. We finished the course while most of the math kids didn't.

Our sit downs are offering curb service. They seem to be the big chains, though. I don't know how the smaller places on campus are doing.
