  1. You know what, HGTV had a great show very like this - Jeff Devlin's Stone House Revival. Yeah, they're treading carefully to not alienate their religious right wing audience. Not a mask seen on their instagrams, etc. A few things about BLM but no pushback to the racist commenters.
  2. Thank you all for your kind words. I'm kind of just still in a cocooned state. Grief + lockdown = immobility or something. I lose track of time really easily. Lately though I've decided to move back east. I'm in Fort Worth - we were here for my husband's work. I need to downsize anyway, and I'm from the east coast, so may as well go back where I have family and life-long friends. And 4 seasons, and ocean. So the downsizing has begun. I'll be trying to get down from 3000 sq ft of stuff to about 800! I read about Ree's vacation recommendations. My god, Pawhuska sounds like such a bore.
  3. Hi y'all. I haven't been here for a while. My husband died of COVID on April 10. Hug your family, tell them you love them, and WEAR A MASK, ok? (and don't buy PW crap)
  4. If we got it already, we wouldn't be in the state we're in. Just sayin'. I'm old enough to remember when we had ecology messages in all kinds of programming in the 70s, and that was effective for a while. I too, am glad they didn't bury the gays. This is the first time in a VERY long time that they haven't.
  5. Noura was the goat that walks behind everyone else going "baaaa look at me baaaa" and no one notices, or if they do, they say "no skin off my back." She was never a threat. She made it to the end because whoever got to the final 3 knew she made it a final 2, between the other 2 contestants. She had NO. GAME. eta: totally forgot Jack existed. Seriously I had to go to the cast page to remind myself who he was.
  6. I'm still figuring out how Probst thinks he's gonna get through next week without mentioning The Dan Situation. It's gonna be sitting there like the biggest elephant in the room, ever. He should've been gone a long time ago. Elaine deserves a second chance, as does Kellee, if they want it. Kellee might not and I wouldn't blame her. It's just an awful situation.
  7. I just realized it's been weeks since I watched HGTV. Am I alone? There's nothing compelling, it's all repeats from before.
  8. Thank you! And just today a friend was talking about how people challenge her when her husband has a seizure and she doesn't want to call 911. (She knows what to do, if they had an ambulance every time he had a seizure, they'd be bankrupt, etc.) Noura just wants Karishma gone and is transparent. And Missy was a bully. And Aaron was an idiot. And I laughed my ass off. eta, after reading the rest of the thread. I totally agree with what Missy said about representation. That doesn't obviate that she's behaved more like a Survivor villain than a Survivor hero, in game context. She might be a wonderful person out of the game. In the game, she bullied, became overconfident at her apparent success, didn't stop to think that perhaps things were happening that benefited her without her involvement. Everything was because she was SO great! And then this hubris led to the sort-of bullying of Karisma: she became so convinced of her own power that she could just tell anyone what to do and they would/should accept it, without question. She forgot to play the social game. You can't ever forget that. On another topic, are we ever going to see the Island of the Idols again? Or, from now on, will we only see Rob and Sandra commenting from their secret lair during Tribal? How sad. I'm looking forward to next season. GO JANET!
  9. Just trying to imagine if she were a Food Network Star contestant. She'd be booted so early! She did an entire demo there without mentioning any ingredient except grits and the shrimp.
  10. I would be so into a show that didn't go all "ooh family". Just fix up a house, please. Decorate a bedroom. Whatever. I don't need the "feels" from a backstory. It's HGTV, not People Magazine tv.
  11. I'm from Delco - 30 yrs there, 25 elsewhere. I say Philly, too!
  12. That was an object lesson in "What life's like for a woman in the workplace." I don't miss the workplace. (retired due to disability)
  13. These people...I swear, they're all acting like it's day 5 on Survivor, not day 1. Three people go off to get supplies and someone's like "THEY MUST GO." Someone else is "I just don't want the drama or the slimey..." Who did they mean by slimey? I just don't know. I like Elaine. She's the first one so far whose name I know. I think Dan should've waited to get so close, physically, to people. I'm not a germaphobe but I wouldn't have been comfortable. Cripes, it's DAY ONE. Don't worry about who's with you at final tribal yet. I wasn't sure how I'd like seeing Rob & Sandra, but I like them there as mentors. Elaine "But these people have to realize that they have to make it to the end." So right - they're assuming they won't be off early. Hearing Ronnie's resume, I wanted to boot him right then. RIGHT THEN. Dabbled in crypto, micronutrients, stock. OH, THE HUMANITY. Bye bye. YES. I am so glad. I couldn't have standed hearing him bloviate for more of the season, and I guess the rest of the cast couldn't either. Gosh, he looks so pissed off. ~snicker~ eta: I agree that Elizabeth shouldn't have lied. She should have just said "they have mentors over there" or a special feature, or something. Or "a contest" but not specified. There was no reason for that.
  14. I snark on Ree with the best of us (Hi, best!) but yeah, she's not obese. She's a middle-aged woman. I do judge her clown-colored hair and over-botoxed face. And her variable accent and misogynistic gendered food choices and crass merchandising with cheap goods. But she's not obese!
  15. Man, no kidding. And me, I'm superstitious. My family didn't even have baby showers before the birth, just in case. Superstitious Sicilians. So planning your house for children that aren't even thought of as ovum yet? Yeahhh no. I saw the Suzanne Whang thing today too, and dang. I'll just sayin it: f*ck cancer. It's taken too many of my friends lately.
  16. I couldn't believe how immature the husband was. At first I was all "ugh, another kid" but the young kid was far more mature than his father. When he said he initially wasn't into being a dad, I thought that was cringeworthy.
  17. More like everything urban in Texas is now blue. We moved to TX 20 years ago, to Austin, and at the time, it was the blue area you describe. We moved to Dallas in 2001 and it was pretty red. Now we're in Fort Worth, and it and Dallas are both blue. The more rural areas and some of the burbs are redder. Re prices - Austin's gone up hugely. DFW was behind that for a while but is starting to catch up. Just as we're starting to look for a new house, of course! :) But compared to most of the rest of the large metroplexes, it's vastly cheaper. I'm from the East Coast, and would have to spend double to get what we're looking for now.
  18. Taking words out of my mouth - I was just thinking this last night. "I want a typical ____ apartment!" They want it to look 18th century but to have modern plumbing and an American sized fridge. They seriously don't think anyone else in the world likes modern design or architecture! They might leave their exteriors looking original, but not the interiors.
  19. This, exactly! Another thing is that there really wasn't enough time to see the dancer grow and evolve. 5 weeks? Naa. 3 months of it, they learn more and grow.
  20. Alex is so easy at being a host/judge, that she makes Ree look like a total newbie. Ree has never grown comfortable in front of the camera, she just rehashes her standard lines.
  21. I finally saw the Notorious Max Stomps Through the Netherlands episode. My. Lord. Mom: "What do you want to do for lunch?" Max: "Eat?" Cue parents laughing like it's the cleverest thing ever. Repeat this 20 times. Realtor: "Max, what do you think about moving to the Netherlands?" Max: "Not excited." That's when I'd leave Max on the side of the road. I swear, they're raising a future serial killer.
  22. It's par for the course, though. They'll say "Dallas" and something will be 30-45 mins outside of Dallas. Ditto, well, everywhere.
  23. I don't think he was that kind of engineer - he's in systems engineering which I think is IT. He was questioning if the kitchen cabinets that looked like they'd been there since 1960 were in studs - pretty sure they'd have fallen down by now if they weren't! Also, she thought 1600 sq ft was huge? I'm confused.
