  1. It just means they are mixing and matching footage across episodes. So they will film on seven different days and then footage from day 1, day 4, day 8, etc is used in episode 1. Trust and believe, they aren't making enough money to do significant wig and weave changes multiple times per week!!!
  2. If this show is like most reality shows the THs are shot over a few hours after all the other footage has been shot. In some cases, I've heard of them being done after the entire show is filmed to get additional background, but I'm sure sometimes what you see is girls in makeup because they are either getting ready to do a competition or have just finished a competition. So in a nine episode season, THs may be shot on 7 or 8 different days over a 10-12 week period.
  3. The easiest way to avoid the IRS if you are self-employed is to simply take half off the top every time you get a check and send it to the IRS. Anyone who has been raised to be financially conservative or that has an even halfway decent FA or accountant takes this approach . Unfortunately, for folks who have not, they treat the IRS like they were the light, cable, or phone company or the local repo man. That approach is "they'll have to find me or cut my shit off before I'll pay them". What most regular people don't get is that the IRS is gangster. If you don't pay, they start assessing fees and penalties pretty quickly, and you can go from owing $200k to $400k in no time. When it gets really ugly they will show up at your place and take everything that can be sold (leaving behind literally only your dirty drawers) in order to satisfy your debt. Clearly she never read Confessions of a Tax Collector, because if she had, she would know that this is not the group to mess with.
  4. So can someone explain to me the John Oliver/ Dwayne Johnson feud? He's alluded to it twice now...
  5. I'm not going to fault either Camryn or her mom for this. She got the scholarship when she was either in 8th grade or a freshman in college. Now that she's getting closer to actually attending, thinking about what she actually wants to do in life and what she wants to major in is a real thing - and not something that most young high school students know or even think about. I'm sure that Mimi encouraged her to participate, just like all the other parents, because she wanted to have the safety of knowing that she had a school she could attend that was fully paid for. But, realizing a couple of years later that rather than be a dancer, you want to study international relations or become a veterinarian, or be an television producer is exactly what the majority of kids go through and isn't anything I'd fault her for. My kid was in a similar position last year (full scholarship to a school that was not on his radar) and I essentially told him the same thing that Mimi is saying, which is decide what you want and then see how the school that is offering the scholarship fits into that. If she absolutely doesn't have any idea what she wants then taking the debt-free option is best, but if she really wants to do something that DeSales don't offer, why should she accept the scholarship?
  6. I just chalked it up to my pets being assholes, but I never thought about drugs. You're absolutely correct that with the exception of the cat jumping on the table when lunch was set out (and promptly returned to the floor where he stalked off), the animals seem to spend all their time sleeping or grooming, with an occasional break to bark at the strange men outside. My guys literally chase each other through the house all day and jump up on tables so they are not left out of the conversation. My cat will sit on the printer and pull any thing that comes out off so he can inspect it first. Jeff's itinerary would have paw prints and claw marks every single day.
  7. 67 after a lifetime of physical labor is different than 67 after working in an office for thirty years. It takes a toll. As for the doesn't want to, Jenny pointed out that she finds the driving, parking, etc. to be stressful. That's not unusual for older drivers.
  8. While they appear to be "thick" on tv, they are perfectly normal sized girls IRL. I think some of it is that you're seeing girls transition from that pre-adolescent body type with thinner limbs to their more adult fuller bodies. As I said earlier, none of these girls except Kayla are even on the large size of average. They all look like they range from size 6-12 to me with Faith maybe as small as a 2-4.
  9. Zoila is a housekeeper. That's a job that involves a lot of bending, squatting, lifting, moving, etc. especially in the household of Jeff Lewis. I remember in the early seasons that part of her job was to dust (by hand) every baluster on his floating staircase and then go underneath the stairs and dust the back and undersides. Jeff came home in the evening and wiped down the stairs afterwards to make sure it had been done. With his OCD, she dusted and cleaned and moved every object in almost every room, every day. I recall that when Jenny's ex was the house manager, he had responsibilities for the dogs, and things like running errands and making appointments/ paying bills, but Zoila had a backbreaking amount of daily chores. The fact that she can't do it anymore isn't a surprise to me. Nor is it a surprise that as she gets older she doesn't like to drive and finds the lunch runs stressful. In this day and age, they should be able to utilize a delivery service, but I bet dollars to donuts that Jeff has no desire to do that because if something is wrong the people aren't there for him to berate. While I think she has it pretty easy, I also think that she's worked as a domestic for more than twenty years and that kind of work takes a physical toll on anyone. If she wants a slower lifestyle now, she's more than earned it. And FYI, she isn't an illegal. There was an entire season about her having applied for citizenship (at Jeff's urging) and becoming a US citizen. If I remember correctly her daughter (daughters?) did so years earlier, but she didn't and Jeff kept insisting that she needed to complete the process
  10. Deija danced with the team in the live show and she is the real deal. Really charismatic when she performs and simply just a stunning girl to look at. She isn't one of the most technically powerful dancers but she has strength and flexibility and a smile that lights up her whole face. I can completely see why a coach who is looking for 7-8 girls would take a chance on her, especially since what she will develop into is a bit of an unknown factor in 2-3 years.
  11. It definitely keeps you cooler, but if you've got cornrowns braided to the scalp, braids with hair extensions to make them long (think Brandy) dancing in them will still be a hot sweaty situation
  12. Dancing makes you hot and sweaty. Weaves trap the heat and sweat at the scalp. It would be the same as working out with a hat on every day. By day 3-4 you'd be scratching too. Your scalp gets itchy and just wants to breathe. They'd be in the same situation if they wore braids or other styles that trap the heat and sweat. While I get that there is a razzle-dazzle kind of appeal to whipping your hair, I wonder why they don't encourage styles that are less trendy and are more in keeping with what young girls may wear.
  13. One of the things that I realized when I saw the stage show is that majorette dancing was originally intended to be seen at stadiums during football games. So the large, over-exaggerated moves were done in part so that everyone could see the dancers. It actually shows much better when you are watching from far away, than it does in the tv version where they are focused on only a few dancers at a time. The group of 40-50 dancers moving in unison that the Compton coach was complaining about comes off completely differently when you are twenty rows back in a stadium than when you've got that many girls 15 feet in front of you and you're watching from floor level. One reason I think that you see the same teams and competitions over and over is that this type of majorette dancing is very regional. It's not something that appears in normal cheerleader competitions, nor is it truly dance squad type dancing. It comes out of the south and is popular within a southern black culture. While they pull in teams like Miami and Compton, those folks are not pure majorette squads, and are basically adapting their own dance styles to compete. Same with the squad from last year which was a local cheerleading team coached by the older white lady. They were more of your traditional cheer and tumbling team and were attempting to compete in majorette. So you're going to see a ton of Mississippi, Alabama, perhaps even Georgia, Missouri or Louisianna teams, but the odds of finding this type of majorette squad in Chicago, New York, Phoenix, or Indianapolis is pretty slim.
  14. WTF was up with Ariane's hair? I think she is one of the most naturally beautiful ladies on the show and her hair and makeup are always understated and on point. That get-up was beyond unflattering... Also, Ariane- your jealousy is showing.
  15. I saw the Live! show this weekend (don't ask, it was my SO's idea of a joke), and I must say I came away very impressed with the girl's strength, stamina, and flexibility. They don't have a lot in the way of ballet technique, but they ARE pretty good dancers. The live show included not just Kayla, Camryn, Christanna, Makayla, and Faith, but also some of the dancers that are regularly seen and not showcased such as Tanisha, Danisha, Makiya, etc. Mimi and Tina walked out at the end, just to take a bow, but overall it seemed that the troop was fairly small (10 girls, Diana and the two moms) and that was it. Overall, the live show gave you a better sense of the girl's abilities as they danced in some pretty elaborate numbers that lasted 8-10 minutes each. Diana commented that on tv you really only get to see short snippets of stand battles or dances and that one of the reasons that her girls do well is that they can dance forever without getting tired. She also mentioned that she has opened a third location in ATL. The biggest thing I noticed was how much smaller the girls are in real life. While people were busy commenting on Kayla's weight gain last year, I'd say that she's probably a 12-14 at most. Most of the girls looked smaller than that, and little Faith is a tiny thing in person. Even Tina (who has been on a slim down since her surgery) looks no bigger than a 14-16 now. She's someone that I would look at and say she's healthy, but in no way is she overweight or obese. Not sure if this is more exercise and work since this season started filming, or if the camera really does add significant amounts of weight.
  16. I remember reading somewhere that the parents do a lot of fundraising (bake sales, car washes, etc.) to raise money for uniforms which is how a lot of the kids can afford to participate. They raise money and buy the uniforms in bulk and parents put a much smaller amount than actual costs in (uniform fee) as part of the registration for the team. If its anything like other youth sports, battle squad probably has an extra uniform fee as well.
  17. A lot of times its not the salon's that buy. Its sold to clients. Lots of small shops don't have "exclusive" products so they don't care. You can also buy tube socks, videos, jewelry and other odds and ends.
  18. That's the point. Either they planted and nurtured it, or they sat by while someone else did. Watching them do mental gymnastics while trying to explain how its okay that their boys called women cunts ("...but they deserved it") would be some must see tv.
  19. So, its far too late for this suggestion, but I would love it if the reunion show included a segment with Bobby, Bobby's mom, Bryan and Bryan's mom all talking about how Bobby and Brian behaved towards the women in the crew. I think that would be fascinating... Ginger beer is soda. It's like ginger ale, but with more ginger and far less sugar.
  20. I thought that I heard somewhere that KK is going to helm a L&HH: Houston (NOLA??, Shreveport?, or somewhere rachetness goes to die??). Am I imagining things?
  21. I agree that the Vet Life needs a little more vet and a little less life, but I loved this week's episode with the tiger. The setup where the clinic is also responsible for the local shelter responsibilities seems like a good way to encourage vets to come to an area, but at the same time provide low cost services to the community through treating lost and abandoned animals. That tiger was clearly still in it's kitten phase, and it was nice to see that Dr. Lavigne be so comfortable around the cat while Dr. Ross was clearly thinking "TIGER" the entire time he was examining the cat. I giggled during the scene with the cat getting his shots when he swiped at Dr Ross who was like "well, I guess she's done with her exam" meanwhile the cat rolled over grabbed Lavigne's ankle and wrapped himself around his leg like he was a little tiny housecat. There is still too much of the family for me, but this week's story with the wrapping of the mobile unit and the spay and neuter event at least showed the families more engaged in the business. It was also refreshing to see the discussion of how vets and vet techs deal with animal to human transmittable diseases and protocols. I'll stick it out through the rest of the season or until Pit Bulls and Parolees returns. ETA: Was I the only one who was gobsmacked at Dr. Jeff's cancer diagnosis? The loss of all of his hair (including the mustache at the end) just killed me.
  22. I've been wondering if this weekend's events will have a chilling impact on the DM meet-n-greets. Over in the Pit Bulls and Parolees thread, we've been discussing the fact that Tia Torres has come out and said that she and her kids (all of whom are adults) will significantly be reducing the amount of public appearances they do and are basically pulling back from meet-n-greets completely after the death of the young lady from the Voice and some bad experiences they've had at their own facility with crazy folks. And this is a woman who has made her life providing jobs to felons and violent criminals. Seeing how so much of what these girls have been able to monetize from their reality show fame is based on these public appearances (where I have to imagine, security is limited, and screening non-existent), I wonder if any of the moms are concerned for the kids safety?
  23. The no adoptions from the tours thing isn't entirely a surprise. Very few people are in a position to make a snap decision about getting a dog. And I'm sure given Tia's adoption rules (the big one being no first time dog owners but then the home check, etc.), that decreases the numbers even more. Seems to me that locals are the most likely to adopt and the least likely to tour (how many of you guys do touristy kinds of stuff in your own town/city?) so the combination of the two facts leads to not a lot of people coming to tour and then ultimately leaving with a dog. However, it does seem like they have a lot of volunteers that end up taking animals...
  24. Well, as a result of this incident Tia posted on FB that they are closing the NO location to visitors again - permanently. Seems there was another incident the day before where a family came and went into and area marked "Do Not Enter" (I think you can see it in the video posted above) and began scaring the animals in that area. When staff came to respond to all the commotion, the family got belligerent and had to be escorted out. The combination of the two incidents seem to have Tia spooked about her personal safety and the safety of the dogs. So thanks idiots, for ruining it for the rest of us...
  25. I think that we will see her on Botched. If not this year then certainly next when she compares her cut rate boob job to the one Sky got on Black Ink Crew and realizes Mona set her up with some swap meet doctor. D Smith could probably recommended someone who would have had her looking fly.
