  1. This show is like a sedative. It's slow and weirdly antiseptic. The characters don't seem fully human.
  2. I'm not a gamer so I didn't get it either. It would be nice if it's explained later on. The milky robot creation bath and the milk pouring out of the robot in ep. 1 remind me of Ash the robot in Alien.
  3. This show is my GoT. (I don't care if it gets fewer seasons. Quality over quantity.) I'm already watching every ep twice. Just as I suspected, Bernard is up to some tricks but the romance was a nice surprise. Great to see Jimmi Simpson all cleaned up for once. His friend is such a raging asshole. How do people tolerate him IRL? Can't wait to see him killed off. The scriptwriter dude can go too. So shrill and one note. I want him off my screen for good. I hope we get closer and closer to seeing the real world outside the park with each ep. I love the dream memory moments. The virus theory is interesting. How is it spread? By saying that "violent ends" line? Please let Teddy catch it next so he can avoid getting killed every damn day. I love Clifton Collins. I was hoping Ed Harris could be a good guy in disguise but he seems to enjoy being a dick. I wonder what he did in the real world for him to decide to never go back. First Soundgarden, now Radiohead. The player piano knows all my faves.
  4. ITA. It's also interesting how they're programmed not to react when confronted with reality (e.g. when the kid says "you're not real" and the city photograph "looks like nothing"). I think the "broken" cooling system was intentionally sabotaged but I'm not sure if it was by Bernard. I'll also guess that the Man in Black lost a loved one during the park massacre 30 years ago (if the 30-year-old event is based on the film).
  5. Well, only rich people can afford Disneyworld, right? I certainly can't. This park is waaaay more expensive than Disneyworld. I think a day pass in the movie was $1,000, and that was in the '70s, so it's probably at least $5,000 for each person per day in this future version. I just found out that it will cost guests $40,000 per day to visit this Westworld. Holy crap!
  6. I agree. He's the only sympathetic human character for me. I'm also intrigued by him looking at a photo of a boy, which I would guess is his dead son. After a second watch I'm thinking the QA woman isn't human. There was a paused moment between her and Bernard that was strange. Or maybe it's Bernard that isn't human and the photo is a implanted memory (like in Blade Runner) and Abernathy threatened him because he feels betrayed by one of his own.
  7. I would be really into this show if it wasn't so rushed. I'll just keep watching till something else shows up on Mondays.

  9. But it's just rich people that can afford to visit the park, right? So all of humanity isn't bored. Maybe this is commentary on the upper classes? I saw the film as a kid and loved it (Brolin's reaction when Yul Brenner goes off-script is classic). I would bingewatch this show in a heartbeat. Love the idea of the robots organizing a rebellion after being persecuted. I like the actors except for the loud British guy (he was over the top). Always love Jeffrey Wright. I don't get Ed Harris's character's motivation -- if he's a guest and knows the park is fake, what "game" does he want to play? His need could have been conveyed better.
  10. I was disappointed in the first scene at the apartment; BD's haughtiness made Marcus seem like too much like his Flesh & Bone character. Hopefully there's no more crossover. I agree that this ep was less cinematic. I hate when shows do that -- the pilots lure us in with cinematic style then the subsequent eps get small (to suit a TV screen) and generic (head shots galore) as if we won't notice. The story is still interesting but had a few "huh?" moments, like when Casey got scared after the pea soup event but didn't tell her sister or mother. Also, no one on the block saw the demon band of brothers boldly walking down the street with ice chests on the night of the murders? I wonder why they didn't keep Tubular Bells as the theme music (too costly?). The new theme is dull.
  11. Yeah, they did a good job with the bait and switch. The "good" sister is a crafty demon while the sulky sister is just a bitch. (JK. I know she's acting out because she lost a friend and misses her dad.)
  12. Finally got around to watching this. I liked it. Strong cast and cinematography. Great roles for Ben Daniels and Alan Ruck, though I think I missed the reason why the father has mental issues. I'm so glad I didn't watch it at night. That attic scene. Gah! And Tubular Bells always gives me goosebumps. Don't know if this can be interesting for more than one season but it's off to a good start.
  13. Actually, it's understandable for her to have mixed feelings: she clearly enjoys baseball, but her father was obsess and most likely isolated her so she would keep her eye on the ball (pun intended....I guess). We even see her imagine her when trying to get her head in the game, which even in fantasy she resents him for--that speaks volumes. People who become professional athletes usually sacrifice a lot of experiences, friendships, etc due to their dedication and I'd imagine that'd been times a thousand for someone in Ginny's position, the first woman in the major leagues. Also, that woman wasn't Ginny's best friend, it was her teammate's wife who she was friendly with. I understand having mixed feelings but the character expressed two POVs like she had two personalities instead of layering both feelings throughout to convey her inner struggle with complexity. That could be attributed to the level of the writing, the actress or both. The friendship came out of the blue after her "no friends" comment because she and the teammate's wife have an established chemistry (they seem like old friends).
  14. I want to watch this but the movie scared the crap out of me as a kid. I'm lurking to see the consensus here. Sounds like it isn't a total waste of time. Deadline gave it a good review so I'll give it a go.
  15. Can this premise stay interesting for more than one season or is it essentially just a show about baseball players? (That isn't a bad thing.) The lead actress is engaging but I was confused about the character. She's excited about her profession and new benchmark but also resents her career because she's been miserable all this time? She complains about having no friends but also has a reliable BFF? Overall, the show has a lighter/romcom quality (the charming/sarcastic dialogue feels too "written"). I was hoping for gritty like Friday Night Lights, but I'll watch one more ep. Glad to see Michael Beach in something that'll get him some recognition. Does anyone know the name of song that was played after her first game? Edited to add: It's "Addiction" by Black Violin.
  16. He did do nerdy early in his career (he was great in Promised Land with Meg Ryan, who didn't play a nice girl for once). I hope the character doesn't get macho. I doubt KS wants to go there as an actor after 10+ years of 24.
  17. I think there was a scene missing -- the wife was upset about moving to Canada but was in a good mood in the bunker before the bomb. Did I miss something? Also, why would everyone stop to swear in Kief- uh, Jack, er, Tom in a vulnerable White House hallway after a bomb took out an entire DC block? Can't they do that in a bunker? Overall, not a bad start. It's cheesy but compelling. I like Natasha McElhone and Maggie Q. Kal Penn's voice annoys me for some reason.
  18. I like this show so far despite Green (not a fan). Herriman has a distinct face (it stood out in Candy as Heath Ledger tried to impersonate him) yet he's able to morph into so many different personas. His take on this particular character is awesome. And Mullan is always great. After two eps, I'm looking forward to seeing how the police investigation pans out. The meatball guy holding his leg and moaning was a bit much; the director could have found another way to keep him in one spot. How did the one-legged man track down Mac?
  19. I didn't know I had a preference until I saw Zimmer and thought, "Aw, I wish Zimmer was the star of this show." Adlon is cool but when her voice gets whiny it grates on my nerves (much like the oldest daughter's voice).
  20. OMG, this show is so s...l...o..w. So much repetitive info. If I skip to the new content, the show only lasts 15 minutes. Is there anyone on Earth who didn't think Heather wanted a divorce ASAP?
  21. He was on "Royal Pains" for its entire run, and before that, dare I say it, he was on the short-lived Friends spin-off, "Joey." Yes, my brain is way too full of useless pop culture knowledge. OK, thanks! I haven't seen one ep of either show. I guess I'll identify him as the "Night of Killer" from now on.
  22. The pilot was slow but worthwhile, a bit predictable. Still not a fan of Green's but I Iove Mullan. And Herriman was perfection, as always.
  23. Ah! That's probably why I didn't see him as the killer. I have no idea who that actor is and don't recall seeing him in anything before this.
  24. After their talk in counseling, I saw the situation like this: Heather saw the smoking but instead of speaking up, she got silent and cold. When she finally did speak up, Nick stopped smoking but Heather kept bringing it up, griping about it and judging him. She refused to let it go (despite saying the opposite), which caused Nick's resentment. Nick def. needs work (That wine/milk comment? Ugh) but Heather strikes me as someone who will quickly find flaws in others to avoid examining her own flaws. Her drinking is as much of a red flag as his pot smoking (if that's what he's doing) so maybe she's projecting onto him what she subconsciously thinks about her own habit (which her friends may have mentioned as a problem). Edited to add: The constant cliffhangers of Heather's decision and other decisions are ridiculous. [snip]
